Ribeye with rosemary Gorgonzola butter

I almost didn't eat here, after reading all of the scathing reviews. I'm really glad I did. We stopped for a quick dinner before a concert at the casino. We ordered a beer from Powers Creek Brewing and ordered our entrees. My sister and I each had the ribeye with rosemary Gorgonzola butter. Both were cooked to a perfect medium rare and arrived piping hot. I didn't get a picture but my uncle ordered the French dip and it was amazing. The meat was so smoky and delicious and the sourdough roll was so tender. If we had stayed here another day, I would have ordered that next. We'll definitely be back!

Salmon and chicken sandwich. Both great!

I was worried due to the reviews but we came around 3:30 on a Wednesday and Emily waited on us. She was wonderful. I had the salmon and it was delicious! Perfectly cooked salmon and rice in a yummy sauce with black sesame. Husband had a chicken sandwich which he enjoyed. The tall one made us delicious Old Fashioneds. I would definitely recommend and return.

Tater tots, biscuits and gravy, and chicken fried steak. It was ok. The tater tots were a bit dry.

This review is an aggregate of all of my experiences eating at Alice's Restaurant. Most of my visits have been pleasant and tasty, with awesome customer service, though I have some recommendations for improvement which I will detail below. Most of the negative parts of this review are from the past two times I've eaten here, so I hope the negative blips are not becoming a trend. Alice's Restaurant has always been clean and lovely - whoever chose the decor did a great job. The food on the standard menu is great! I thoroughly enjoy eating lunch and dinner here, and the chocolate cake is to die for! Please do yourself a favor and order it. Brunch, however, is a whole different ballgame. The past few times I've eaten brunch at Alice's the food has been overcooked and dry. I suggest one of two things - replace the food more often or end brunch an hour and a half/two hours earlier. Brunch currently goes on until 3 P.M, and by that time the quality goes way downhill. A more specific part of this review: today (a Saturday) my friend and I arrived at around 2:15 for lunch, only to be met with the brunch set-up...which we had explicitly avoided. Why was the brunch on Saturday when it's posted everywhere that brunch is on Sunday? Being 2:15 the waitress should have let us know that seating for the standard menu would be in 45 minutes, but instead she led us to a table, informed us of the brunch (basically the leftovers), and seemed pretty uninterested in us the entire time we were there. The food was a bit overcooked and dry. Thank goodness the mimosas were included in the price of the brunch - they were hands down the best part of the meal. I feel like the wait staff should inform people of when the regular menu will be back in business - especially if they arrive within 45 minutes of the menu change. And most definitely when brunch is on a day other than Sunday (their usual brunch day). I love Alice's, but please revamp the way you handle brunch, and please make sure that your wait staff is providing quality service. I'd love to rate your restaurant five stars but I can't bring myself to do so after my past few visits. I hope to be back soon for my tried-and-true lunch and dinner favorites, and hope that I can one day enjoy a quality brunch here!

From the outdoor lighting to the quaint indoor decor, it's one of those places that makes you appreciate the ambiance before you've even ordered anything. Our server was welcoming, friendly, and attentive throughout the evening. She checked in on us regularly without interrupting our conversations, which I always appreciate. We started with the carpaccio, grilled oysters, and charcuterie board. The carpaccio was simply delicious. The accompanying bread was lightly toasted, allowing the delicate texture of the tenderloin to come through rather than getting lost in the crunch. The drizzle of Caesar dressing and coarse salt was just enough to elevate the flavor of the meat without overpowering it. The oysters were fresh, and I appreciated that the BBQ sauce (at least I think that's what it was) came on the side so you could control how much you wanted. Now, that charcuterie board deserves some love. You could tell there was intention behind the selections and pairings. The pâté was whipped, giving it such a delicate texture. The goat cheese, while tart, paired beautifully with the accompanying condiment and pluot slices. And the manchego with the apple slices? Yes, please. I enjoyed the charcuterie so much that if they offered it as a meal, I would absolutely order it. Give me that board and let me mind my business. For our mains, the table ordered ribeye, both naked and dressed, and filet mignon. We all requested medium rare, and let me tell you, the kitchen knows their temp bc they delivered! My ribeye was seasoned well and cooked exactly how I wanted it. The accompanying salad was delicious and abundant, and I was fortunate enough to snag the last twice-baked potato. Definitely flavorful with a great mouthfeel. No complaints from me. We ended the evening sharing the lemon tart, and I'm glad we did because it was a pretty generous slice. The crust was THICC, and the lemon filling was a lovely way to cut through the heaviness of everything we had enjoyed throughout dinner. Between the food and our table conversations, we somehow ended up being the last guests in the dining room. And despite how long we lingered, the staff never made us feel rushed. They remained kind and professional while allowing us to enjoy the rest of our evening. I can see why Larrupin Cafe has earned its reputation as one of the area's most romantic dining spots. The ambiance, food, and hospitality all came together for a wonderful evening. Would I return? You don't have to ask me twice.

The flavors and thoughtfulness of the dishes were so unique and fun. We ordered the Half and Half (Ribs and Brisket), the Halibut special, which was a philo-dough wrapped halibut, and the chicken special which was philo-dough wrapped chicken. The sides we enjoyed were asparagus (which my 6 year old declared was the best she'd ever had in her entire life), the coconut macadamia basmati rice (which I immedietly started researching how to make myself because it was incredible), and the twice baked potato. Everything comes with a significant sized size salad that has the most delicious dressing! We ordered the Baked Brie as an appetizer and had the creme brûlée and whipped goat cheese and chocolate (it has a better name but I can't remember it) for dessert. I am not normally a big fan of creme brûlée but there's was INCREDIBLE! We loved the goat cheese/chocolate, but that creme brûlée was OUT of this world! My only comment or suggestion if you go is to know that the portions are really huge for a fancy restaurant. The entrees come with a side and a large side salad and they give you a complementary charcuterie board as an appetizer (the bread on that board wasn't my favorite, but everything else was delicious!) and if we had known, we probably wouldn't have ordered our own appetizer. We had SO much leftover and took it to have as leftovers, but if we go back, we would probably split our entree and maybe even skip an appetizer? All in all, GREAT experience!

I'd highly recommend a reservation for those busy nights during the busy times of the year. The seating area wasn't the largest, so I'd try to make sure you have a place waiting for you. It's good for the small town it's in. Compared to other steakhouse I've been to, it's not bad for a small town. I'd probably lean toward this being a Fortuna 5, but big city 4. The service of the staff is the real star of the show. From the moment we walked in, they were amazing. The appetizers were pretty forgettable, but appreciated. The ravioli in tomato sauce were alright. Salads were ok. Our bread was just a little burnt/overloaded. The main, which people come here for, was good. I asked mine for rare, and it hit. It was solid. The Mac and cheese side that came with it was just alright. Good time was had and service was spectacular, even with the long delays that evening. I'll give them another shot next time, and I hope they fix the issues they were apologetic about (wait times).

Unfortunately, there was a delayed wait time in between our meals being delivered, but staff was nice and friendly. There had been some situation in the kitchen that was causing the delays, and you could tell the waitresses were very apologetic for the issues it had caused. While the food was delayed, when we did the food was good in flavor and portions were very good. I think the garlic mashed potatoes were my favorite out of it all. We'll come again to give them another try, maybe for the happy hour since they looked to have good deals for that as well.

We looked at the reviews here on Yelp! and were a bit worried at the low overall rating. Well, rest assured, we had a good meal and enjoyed our visit. My wife had the filet mignon, while I ordered the rib eye. I asked our waitress about upgrading to the pricier dry aged rib eye, and she surprisingly talked me out of it saying the regular rib eye was really good. She was right. The combination of the grilling and the buttery sauce was delicious. It didn't need any additional sauce, but out of curiosity I tried the house sauce that was on the table, and it was quite nice. For some reason, they have a Tesla coil (from the original Tesla, not the car company) and they fired it off while we were there. They give plenty of notice before they do as it makes a loud sound and sparks fly about the device. It was interesting. So, if you're in town and looking for a good steak, give this place a try.

Overall, the food was very good, it was packed well, and it came quickly. Unfortunately, the order came with no plastic silverware, no napkins, just the food. Did they not see that this was going to a motel? Fortunately, I had a plastic fork from another meal, and I just used TP for napkins. Please pay a little bit more attention to the details. I decided to go with the à la Mexicana omelette, which had spicy beef, cheese, salsa, diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, sour cream, olives, and green onions. Basically, a "taco omelette." it also came with jalapeños, but I put in the comments to please leave them out, and they did. To drink, I had a "Tutti Frutti", which was orange and cranberry juice, with Sprite. The omelette was very good. They were generous with all of the ingredients. I love a good "taco omelette", and this was right up there with others that I have had. The eggs were tender, the beef and the salsa had just a little bit of a spice, just enough that I knew it was there. I liked the sour cream And The lettuce and the diced tomato provided a nice "pop" of freshness. I loved the drink. The orange and the cranberry played very well together, and they didn't put in so much sprite that it watered down the rest of the flavors. The hashbrowns were OK, just generic restaurant hashbrowns, and I wish they would've given me a choice of the bread when I ordered. I would've mentioned it in the comments, but I didn't think about it. It was just your standard white toast. It was OK, but I would've preferred like a nice sourdough, or rye, or something like that. They have a lot of things on their menu, and I would definitely order from here again, either delivery or in person. Thank you.

Ok, here we go again…read more Five stars. Because somebody back there is practicing witchcraft on a grill. Some people move to Humboldt County for the redwoods. Others come for the rugged coastline. I came to work for a nonprofit hospital, and before I'd even settled in, somebody was already preaching the gospel of the AA Bar's steaks. During my orientation at Providence, back when it was associated with the Sisters of St. Joseph, a gentleman stood at the podium discussing the finer points of living in Eureka. And one of his first recommendations? "If you want a steak slapped on your plate after being slapped on a grill just the right way, you want the AA Bar." Well, naturally, I decided I needed to investigate. It took me TWO FUCKING YEARS to get there. Two years of my life I will never get back. Because, sweet baby Jesus, THAT MAN WAS RIGHT. Now, Eureka isn't exactly the first place that comes to mind when you're imagining a world-class steak experience. And the AA isn't some fancy steakhouse with white tablecloths and a sommelier hovering over your shoulder. It's a BAR. A wonderful, unpretentious, slightly rough-around-the-edges bar populated by what I can only describe as corporate lumberjacks and retired Marlboro Men. You know the type. Rugged, handsome, beautifully maintained beards. Like somebody took a lumberjack, cleaned him up, put him in a business suit, and told him to go have a whiskey. It's practically a convention of Dos Equis commercial extras. And somewhere in the back of this establishment, somebody is performing STRAIGHT-UP WITCHCRAFT ON A GRILL. I order my ribeye medium rare. And honey, THEY UNDERSTAND THE ASSIGNMENT. Beautifully cooked. Properly seasoned. That glorious, savory, slightly smoky flavor that makes you wonder what kind of ancient cowboy magic they've worked into that grill. I've eaten steaks at expensive restaurants that couldn't outshine this place. Somebody back there knows what the fuck they're doing. Somebody put their FOOT in that shit. They offer Gorgonzola butter on top, which I know some people adore. Personally, I can take it or leave it. The steak is so damn good it doesn't need any help. But now we need to discuss my biggest problem with the AA. The steak is the star, but the sides are making me question my ability to commit to a relationship. Seriously. The steak fries? BOMB. The onion rings? DELIGHTFUL. The loaded jacket potato? Yes, please. All the fixings, hold the bacon. Mashed potatoes? Absolutely. And every once in a while, they bring out these glorious little deep-fried triangles of macaroni and cheese. Sometimes they're a touch dry, but most of the time? Bomb diggity. I would order ALL OF IT if my wallet and stomach would cooperate. At this point, I would like to formally petition the AA to introduce the "I Can't Make Up My Damn Mind Platter." Give me one tiny loaded jacket potato, three or four steak fries, a handful of onion rings, and a couple of those fried macaroni-and-cheese triangles. I'll pay for it. HAPPILY. Throw in a salad so I can pretend I'm making responsible adult decisions. And let's talk about the atmosphere. There's something wonderfully Cheers-like about the AA. Go often enough, and people know your name. It's a proper neighborhood bar. A place where you can settle in, have a drink, enjoy the company, and eat a steak that has absolutely no business being that spectacular. It's not polished perfection. It's something better. It's character. It's comfort. It's a little bit of Eureka wrapped around a damn fine piece of beef. I can't afford to eat here nearly as often as I'd like, but believe me, if I could, I'd be a regular fixture. And that gentleman who recommended the AA during my hospital orientation all those years ago? Sir, wherever you are, I owe you an apology. You told me where to find one of the best steaks I've ever eaten, and I wasted two years ignoring you. FIVE STARS. For the steaks. For the sides. For the corporate lumberjacks. For the grill that apparently possesses supernatural powers. And for reminding me that sometimes the best food isn't hiding behind an expensive menu or a fancy dining room. Sometimes it's sitting in a neighborhood bar in Eureka, California, waiting for somebody to slap it on your plate. AA, you've got one hell of a stank on that grill. And I mean that as the highest possible compliment.

Our hotel receptionist recommended this place for Steaks saying they were the best steaks in town…read more He did warn us that it was a dive bar atmosphere which is a turn off as smoke comes in all the time from the outdoor patio dinning which apparently allows smoking. Major turn off and it was also pretty loud as the bar goers were getting drunker by the minute and louder as they went along. There were two waitresses that helped us (they took turns if the other was busy because they were also attending the bar as well). Both were very nice, attentive, and friendly and gave us good service throughout our meal. I am conflicted about the steak because the steak was very delicious, tender, perfectly cooked to my liking and had a good flavor to it. However, it was ruined because it was way way too salty!!!! Also the Zoragonla butter was awful for me it was way too overpowering and actually took away from the delicious meat. I regeted spending the extra $4 for that topping. The baked potato I thought was the star of the meal. Wonderfully prepared, soft and tender. Good quality butter and sour cream to go with it made it one of the better potatoes I have had at a steak place. I ate my entire potato which I never do! My husband's Ribeye was a little overcooked and he also complained about the saltiness as well. But agree with me on the baked potato being very good. Overall, the steak is very good but I would ask for it to be unsalted and just season it yourself to your liking because the kitchen way over does it. I would also get it to go unless you enjoy breathing smoke while you eat. I don't so I would not eat in again.
