If you rarely leave Manhattan like me, you are missing out. I stumbled upon this Greek + Cyprian restaurant in Astoria and were truly impressed by the food and portion. The restaurant gave us free pita bread and hummus spread to start. I liked it already before we ordered! We started with Greek salad and it was a big portion. We shared among 3 and it was sufficient. We decided to get the grilled meat platter and seafood platter to share. The meat platter comes with grilled chicken, lamb chop, sausage and some meat that I am not familiar with. All the entrees come with choice of rice, lemon potatoes and grilled asparagus. I love the meat platter because there are so much selections and everything I tasted was delicious. Well, maybe not the chicken because I am never a fan of chicken breast. We also had the grilled jumbo shrimp and calamari entree, which is really fresh and comes in big portion. The lemon potato side is the bomb here. It is cooked in olive oil and lemon juice and it is simply tasty! We ended our dinner with yet another free dessert here. The men that work here are HILARIOUS! What an off-the-boat experience. Although the restaurant is super small, that adds to the feel of being in greece. The smell of the food when we walking was delightful and we waited about 10 minutes to be seated with no reservation. I was eager to eat here since the Gyros I had was really good and wanted to try their sit down service than just simple carry out. I finally got the chance and the food was just as good, better since it was straight from their kitchen. I got the Gyros dinner since it was just so good last time and got a huge plate with a GIANT overstuffed Gyros sandwich packed with meat and veggies, it was like a giant Gyros that seemed to just keep going and going. I finally finished though and enjoyed every bite of it. The gf got the combination sandwich with lamb and chicken, also similarly stuffed and it was served with a similarly large plate of fries. We ended up getting the Galaktoboureko on the house, a pleasant surprise and a pleasant dessert to end the meal. Our server was friendly and there was a large group but it was a bit slow. Came in around 9 for dinner with my gf. Was pretty empty so we were seated quickly. Ordered the Kopanisti, grilled octopus, and mixed grill. Kopanisti was alright, nothing special. Grilled octopus had no char and was lacking in flavor. Had to add more olive oil and lemon. Mixed grilled was fine - gyro was one of my favorite I've ever had. Sadly, service wasn't the greatest. Wanted water but the waiter was too busy socializing to take care of diners. You would think that when you're trying to pay you'd be able to get someone's attention quickly but that did not happen. Was kept waiting forever so I took care of the bill as I was leaving. Just wanted a quick dinner but took longer than expected. Honestly, food was okay but the service was poor. We went today to celebrate a birthday with a party of 8. We shared appetizers of grilled octopus, mussels, zucchini croquettes and salad. All of the appetizers were really good. The staff was attentive, though not intrusive. For entrees we had salmon, Bronzino, chicken kebabs, pork chops, a salad and a hamburger (this may be new to the menu). We each had an opportunity to sample each other's plates. All of the main courses were delicious. I had the Bronzino with lemon potatoes. The fish was nicely prepared and was delicious as were the potatos.. Our hamburger eater said "the best hamburger I ever ate". We had a really good time and excellent food! The main reason that I did not give the 5th star was the coffee service could have been better. The coffee arrived less than hot and we needed to ask for sweetener a few times. Aliada is my new favorite Greek place in Astoria! It's conveniently located right off of the Broadway NW stop. If you plan on coming here, get ready to eat a ton of pita because you get complimentary hummus and bottomless pita for the table. The hummus tastes very fresh and delicious and the pita comes out warm every time. We ordered the tzatziki appetizer and, at $9, you really do get a ton of bang for your buck. We had so much to split between the two of us that we were able to eat some of the dip with our entrees and STILL couldn't finish the whole plate! It was so creamy and fresh, I left there saying it's the best tzatziki I've ever had. I went with the grilled jumbo shrimp and vegetables appetizer as my main with a side of lemon potatoes. This is definitely a good way to hack the menu to pay less for more food-- the side of lemon potatoes that comes with the entree platters is literally half the size of the $6 side you order separately. If you order an appetizer + side, you'll likely end up paying a bit less than the entree price for a noticeably larger portion of food! The lemon potatoes were the real show stopper of this meal. They aren't too lemony, and they absolutely melt in your mouth. Eating them with the tzatziki made them even more delicious! The jumbo shrimp appetizer comes with 4 shrimps and some grilled eggplant. Overall, this dish was relatively bland. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much if I didn't have the tzatziki to eat it with. My friend ordered a small Greek salad and was too full to finish-- a word to the wise that the large portion might be too large for one person, or perfect if you're extra hungry! But again, a great way to save money here is to opt for the small since it's still a large dish. Overall, we loved Aliada. Definitely enjoyed the meal here. The meat was quality chicken. The hummus was super good and you could tell was very fresh. I was a little surprised the hummus came with normal white bread and not pita bread. The chicken salad was great. I love when places cut up the salad into small pieces, it makes the salad much easier to eat. The place has a great atmosphere, especially now with outdoor seating. A decent amount of confusion with the staff on who was taking our order, we had three different people ask for our order. Not sure if it was because of new workers or what. Went here on a saturday night and loved the entire experience! Everyone from the host to the server to the busboy was so kind and respectful. It's rare to get this kind of service in America. Ambiance was also nice! The restaurant was packed, yet it did not feel like it. The food is absolutely amazing here. There is so much to order the pita bread is the best topping to everything. Warm flaky and served the minute you sit down with a side of hummus that I just can't get enough of. Definitely recommend their octopus which is my number one dish here. Surprisingly, I'm not a fan of soulvakia because it is usually super dry, but the pork and the chicken here is so tender and juicy, you just have to have it! A great dinner item is their Seafood Grill which you can pair with two sides. I wasn't a big fan of their sides which is where the restaurant lost points here, but it is still a good Greek neighborhood go to spot! Oh...My Gaaaaawd! Their food was delicious. I ordered the gyro platter with lemon potato wedges and my girl had the shrimp in tomato sauce. All tasted fresh especially that sauce, and the gyro meat. The meat was the best gyro i had in a long time. Not since bills gyro in the 80s in 42nd street where disney store now occupies. They meat was soft, melted in your mouth and wasn't salty or over seasoned. It was just right! Going there again today just to get two gyro sandwiches to go right after my chiropractor session! The food here is A+mazing! Absolutely delicious! The only complaint is, food took a while to come out, but definitely worth the wait! To be fair, I ordered the lamb chops, and lamb takes a while to cook. Otherwise attentive service. The lamb chops were mouthwatering. My friend got the branzino which was just as good! The entrees come with two sides each. We had giant beans, string bean casserole, beats and the okra stew. I loved the giant beans and the okra the most of the four sides. To start off they serve you complimentary hummus and pita. Yum! Both times I've been we've ordered for the table and all split. Everything I have tried so far has been fantastic! Grilled Octopus- Definitely a highlight! The octopus is extremely fresh and tasty, just like what I've found in Greece. Comes in a yummy tomato, onion, and oil mixture. Greek Salad- A classic Greek Salad with delicious fresh toppings including tomatoes, cucumbers, and feta. Come with three stuffed grape leaves, which were the best I've ever had. Saganaki- This was recommended to us by our waiter, and it was delicious! Definitely would recommend again. Pan fried kefalotyri cheese. Rolo Melintzanas- Eggplant rolls stuffed with spinach and cheese, and topped with a tomato sauce. Omg these were amazing! Kind of reminded me of egg plant parmesan, but with a more unique and delicious cheese. Gyro Platter- Gyro meat with tatziki sauce and two sides. I can't stress it enough, get the Oven Roasted Lemon Potatoes for at least one of your sides. They are soo flavorful! Shrimp and Calamari- Good, but probably my least favorite dish. If you're looking for authentic, fresh, and conveniently located Greek food in Astoria - this is your place. Right off the Broadway stop on the N or W train. Came here for dinner on a Friday night. The restaurant was busy but we were able to get a table right away. Our waitress was very sweet. She made plenty of recommendations, answered our questions, and even gave us a free tasting of baklava at the end of our meal! To start our waitress brought us complimentary freshly baked pita bread (still hot) and hummus. Once I had that, I knew the food here would be great. We decided to split a few things so we could try a bunch. The calamari was grilled to perfection. Very flavorful and tasted just like the octopus in Greece. We followed that with a large Greek salad topped with tons of feta cheese, tomatoes, onions, etc. Lastly we split the gyro platter with French fries and lemon potatoes. The salmon was extremely fresh, seasoned and cooked perfectly We were approached by multiple staff members quite a few times to ask us how our meal was, but also to get to know us which was refreshing in itself.
