The salad I ordered looks like it was prepared several days ago, has mushy cucumbers, brown and soggy iceberg lettuce - not romaine, and is not worth the $4.something I paid! I will take it back and request a refund. The people working the counter are not helpful and cannot manually enter your order. They're just hanging out listening to music and talking. Alright I'll bite. I don't get the hype here? The burritos are unseasoned, potato heavy, garbage. On top of that they put honey inside? Walked in because it looked busy and busy usually means good food! Sadly, my experience was really annoying because the chefs prioritized all orders above mine. I was one of my first people in the restaurant but the last to get my food. Waited over 30 minutes for my food when everyone else got theirs before me. A group of four ladies came and left within 10-15 minutes as I sat there. After thirty minutes I had to ask the cashier where my food was and he said they were still cooking it! Altogether I waited well over 30 minutes. by that point. He blamed that I ordered a platter and not a burrito but I wasn't the only one who got a platter and that's a crap excuse. Either you make orders as they come in or you prioritized the burritos while making me wait. I thought it was common sense to cook orders in the order they're placed and not based off what the person ordered ---- Update: I ended up trying the food and it didn't make me feel like the wait was worth it. The rice was cooked well, but it's just rice, so there's not much I can say about it. I thought it would be Afghan or similar to Middle Easter rice, where it's sometimes seasoned, but this was plain rice. The salad was fresh and good. It was lettuce, olives, tomatoes, cucumbers, and was supposed to come with feta, but I asked for no cheese. The salad dressing was very vinegary. The salmon was supposed to be marinated, as it stated on the menu board, but my salmon wasn't very good. It honestly just wasn't worth waiting 40 minutes for. The cashier did apologize for the wait, so I'm increasing my rating to 2 stars, but I clearly ordered the wrong item or came at the wrong time. It was not worth my curiosity. read more

When you really get a craving for a food, nothing else will do. Ali Baba awakened in me a craving that did not exist before coming to Davis in the form of its all-day breakfast burrito. The "regular" burrito, as meaty as a family of 4's Monday night meatloaf, includes beef gyro and bacon alongside a hearty helping of homefries and egg. What ties it together is the Honey-Tapatio sauce that drips down into the depths of your burrito as you consume it. When I order it around noon, the foil-wrapped blessing shows up before the cashier has a chance to say "Do you have a stamp card?" Cons: the burrito gets more expensive every two years, the bathroom is in a strange place due to size constraints, and the seating is sparse for the amount of traffic going through. This is namely a review for the burrito, as the other dishes are middle-of-the-road Middle Eastern fare and daily specials that take a while to get ready. Apart from the decadent experience of an Ali Baba Breakfast Burrito (or ABBB, coincidentally the sound one makes as they take the first bite into it), the restaurant is about a 3 out of 5. The vegetarian burrito, though tasty and full of avocado, is a bit too wet for my taste. Honey-Tapatio shines most with the meaty version, and takes it from a normal breakfast food to an experience that keeps drawing you back, begging you to fill your stamp card. Food is decent BUT if you want to feel dehumanized and as if you are only wanted for your money then, by all means, go here. You can not order with a person, you have to order at a "kiosk". You can't pay with cash you can only pay with plastic. You are not handed your order, you pick it up from a box on the counter. Can you say Robo-World? I'm fine it the kiosk is an option, but when I'm standing in a 300 sq ft room and unable to speak to the person 2 ft away from me then something is wrong. Wonder why the world is the way it is - dehumanization! Pass it on. The only way these business owners will change to feel it in their profits. It is definitely one of my all time favorite places in Davis. The breakfast burrito is stuffed to the brim with eggs, beef gyro meat, cheese, and thick potato. And don't even get me started on the tapatio honey. The breakfast burrito oozes with a spicy sweet tapatio honey that warms the heart. My go-to place in Davis to grab a quick bite. Location is prime for students, just 5 min from the MU bus stop. However, free parking is nonexistent. You'd have to park at the MU structure for $9 or park in downtown and walk over. The workers are students and always so nice. Its more self serve: order, pay, grab your own drinks/sauce/silverware. What the chaos? You get to order using kiosk. No one knows where you stand on your order. A poor woman comes in and ask if her on-line order is in and no one can tell. Another waits and wonders when his order will be up. Since everyone is ordering thru several kiosks and competing with on-line order, only the computer god knows when your order will be up. Many just wonder... All they would have to do is to put up a flat screen showing the orders in sequence of their execution to deliver the poor customers out of the blackhole. Now for the food. We were naive thinking this is Mediterranean but nothing close to it. Gyro without flavors of herbs is so fkat and boring. Falafel is just dry and dense. Fries and O rings have basic Sysco taste. My party said burger is OK. Perhaps this place is good for the breakfast burrito only which we did not order since it was close to 2pm. Perhaps we should have taken the que from sign that says BB all day. Well, I doubt that we will find out. Not a fan of chaotic zoo for getting my fiod. I was in the area for lunch and we decided to stop by here for some Middle Eastern food. I had never been here before, so I didn't realize it was right on the UC Davis campus! They also asked if I wanted grilled onions on top - why not! It took almost 20-30 minutes for my food to be ready which is what they told me, so I was expecting to wait. I was so surprised when I got my meal! This can easily be split into 2-3 meals. The chicken and lamb were well seasoned and delicious. The marinated onions complimented the meal so well! The rice and salad were pretty average. There was too much feta cheese and too many olives for my liking, but I just took them out, so not a big deal. The Aggie kabob is what Ali Baba is known for, besides the breakfast burrito. The kabob consists of a marinated chicken over rice (I always choose to get half rice, half salad because veggies are good for you!) and topped with grilled onions. Make sure you always get the onions because they're soo good!! The portion is huuuge too. I always have enough leftovers for a filling lunch the next day. I was really excited to try Ali Baba's veggie breakfast burrito after reading all the reviews right here on Yelp that raved about them. After waiting about 10 minutes and taking it to go, I couldn't wait to take a bite. As promised, wrapped in that flour tortilla were 2 eggs scrambled, lots of perfectly melted cheddar cheese, a HUGE piece of avocado (!), deep fried potato chunks, and the red tapatillo-honey sauce. I never did find any grilled onions, which was a little disappointing. Despite the warnings of other Yelpers, I thought I could eat the burrito without making a mess. Boy, was I wrong. Note to self: make sure to grab more than one napkin next time. After finishing a final, the warm mix of salty-sweet-spicy flavors and the variety of textures that were going was quite satisfying. For $6, the burrito was a decent size, and I was full after only eating half. As good as it was, though, an hour later it felt like the food hadn't settled very well which is why Ali Baba loses a star from me. The food was yummy and the price was right but the unhappy tummy was not fun. TL;DR Go get that breakfast burrito if you have an iron stomach! read more

The grilled onions had a nice, sweet taste that I rarely get from onions. The salad and dressing was very refreshing and tasted zesty. The rice was also a good addition and went well with the meat. I have a soft spot for middle eastern food, and this place is one of the best in Davis. Their breakfast burritos are unique- stuffed with gyro meat, fries, and a delicious sweet tasting sauce. I pour hot sauce all over it to give it a kick. It is super filling and definitely enough for two meals. The restaurant is at a great location just off the extremely busy part of dt Davis. If you have time between classes, it is a short walk from campus by A street! The staff is very sweet and makes good recommendations. Parking in the area can be limited as permits are usually required. Try parking closer to downtown to be able to park! The store is rather small but there is plenty of seating, especially during their calmer hours. They have point cards too so keep coming back for more :) read more

I ordered a breakfast burrito from this establishment with high hopes based on some really good reviews only to be truly disappointed, when I unwrapped it the burrito was almost soaking wet that the moment I picked it up it started to lose integrity and absolutely fell apart, the tortilla was as if it was heated up too many times for it was that awkward chewy texture, and the gyro meat I got was about the size of a half dollar coin, not much meat, and was barely able to eat any thing for I had to tear it apart and pick it bit by bit with a fork, definitely not the burrito I was expecting and I will never order one from here again. read more

I was going to 3rd and U Cafe for beer and a breakfast sandwich this morning, but it's apparently closed on Sundays. We went across the street to Ali Baba for our 1st try of their breakfast burrito and a couple of beers. I, I got the veggie breakfast burrito. At the end of the list of ingredients were "honey and Tapatio." Although that may not jump out at you as a tasty combination, it was actually quite good. Prices were friendly as was the staff.
