I'm not even going to lie, I love Nick the Greek. The food is always so good and fresh, and the best part is it's not greasy so you don't feel gross after eating, which I really appreciate. My go to order is the chicken bowl with a side of pita and it never misses, it's so flavorful and filling. The only downside is they can be a little stingy with extra pita sometimes, but the cashiers are always super nice which makes up for it. I will say it's way better to order in person because DoorDash portions can be pretty small and not as worth it. Best place open late downtown. 3.4 stars for this chain and about same for this location. Consistent food and often have BOGO on UberEats. I think they're not cheap if you dont get a BOGO though, so if I'm going to spend money I would go local instead of a chain. All things being said, Nick the Greek probably higher up in my list of chains. This place can take a bit of time even in store, though. Bright, usually always a place to sit but feels empty and tables usually a bit sticky. read more

Ordering was easy, but the menu display doesn't list ingredients. Their paper menus do, so we made our selection from that. We each ordered gyro pitas. Falafel for him, veggie for me. My pita had a lot of runny sauce. While delicious, I had to be careful not to drip on my clothes. The zucchini in my pita looked and tasted freshly grilled. I tasted the falafel, it had a nice flavor, a bit of spice. There were live potted flowering plants on some of the tables, a nice touch. I noticed a sticker on the table that if you wrote a review after making a purchase and showed it to any team member, you could get a free baklava. So, of course I did. It came pre-packaged in a plastic container so we brought it home. I just had a little taste and it's stale. Yuck. Normally we love baklava, but not this one. Made plans to meet my friend for lunch and she suggested Nick the Greek. I will never turn down the opportunity for a gyro and some tzatziki! We met at 12:30 PM on a Wednesday and it wasn't crowded so that was nice. The restaurant was clean, bright and inviting. We were greeted by a very friendly young lady at the counter who took our orders. I have had gyros before and I was kind of surprised to read that there were fries IN the gyro. I have never heard of that before. I asked if they got soggy and she said they didn't. Buuuut, I wasn't willing to risk a good gyro, so I opted out of the fries and ordered a Beef/Lamb gyro. My friend ordered the Chickem Gyro Salad. We both thought our food was great!! My pita was toasted just enough that the outside was crunchy, but it was still pillowy soft. There was a TON of meat. The only thing I would have preferred was to have my tomatoes chopped instead of quartered. That meant I only had 4 bites with tomatoes. After we finished eating, we ordered a frozen yogurt to share. It was perfectly tart and delicious - a great way to end the meal. The manager checked in with us a few times and cleared our table for us since we were still chatting. Back in Davis! After a long weekend of lounging in Lake Tahoe, it was time to get back to reality. On the way back to SF, we decided to make another lunch pit stop. This time we happened upon Nick The Greek. It was a new-to-me choice but I later learned it was a chain.* Typically, I like to shop/eat/etc. local but a good time is a good time. We parked in an adjacent lot (cool street art all around) and made our way inside. Despite it being lunch time on a Monday, there weren't that many people inside... which made walking up to the giant menu board a bit less stressful. Even though the pressure was low I sort of choked and went with Nick's Fries... and a side of rice? Like, what? I don't know why either. What was done was done so I just went with it. Oh, and I ordered a sour cherry drink to wash it all down. The choice was weird not because the food was bad. The choice was weird because who orders rice to go along with loaded fries? I blame vacation fatigue. After ordering and waiting by the counter for a bit, our food was ready and we took it outside to soak up the sun. The Nick's Fries was a hefty arrangement of fries covered in feta, garlic, tzatziki, and gyro meat. It was very satisfying. Possibly the only way to top it is if I were hung over and needing to sober up. This isn't healthy food but it's delicious food. Nick's would be dangerous to a college John T. The side of (yellow) basmati rice was good but with each forkful I wondered why I was eating it. It didn't make sense on my plate but I didn't want to waste food and didn't think it would keep all the way back to SF. The fries were meal enough. Don't overdo it like I did. With a specific menu that easily translates from market to market, it makes sense to me (in hindsight) that NTG is a chain. It's a chain that works so more power to it. We stopped in around 9pm looking for a healthier dinner option and decided to give this place a try. There were no other customers in the store when we arrived. The employee who helped us was pleasant at first, and we initially said we'd take the food to go. We later decided to eat in, which seemed to change their demeanor. The food itself was excellent hot, fresh, and well-seasoned. Truly no complaints there. While we were eating and after other customers had come in, the employee came over and asked for our bag back. It was honestly very strange and uncomfortable to be asked to return something that had already been given to us. We were confused but handed it over. They said thank you with a noticeably snarky attitude and then folded the bag up to reuse it for another customer, which raised sanitation concerns. After that interaction, I felt genuinely uncomfortable sitting there and enjoying my meal. The atmosphere completely shifted and it felt unwelcoming, almost as if we were being discouraged from eating inside. I obviously can't say that was the intent, but the experience left such a bad impression that I don't feel comfortable returning which is unfortunate, because the food itself was great. read more
