This place is a real gem. The food is fresh, delicious, and very affordable. GREAT place for vegetarians and they also have meat dishes available, the chef Timothy is very polite and friendly. I cannot help but ALWAYS order the shells and cheese, a Mediterranean take on good ole mac and cheese but soooooo much better with fetta and diced green onions. The dining room is absolutely beautiful, very clean, and the patio is private and extremely relaxing. Ali Baba was my Broad St go-to back in my Georgia State days, so I was very happy to find myself once again able to eat their food. I'm not into hookah or anything like that so I get my food to go and head home. My favorite thing is to get a gyro, spicy of course, with their pasta salad. The food is always so good and hits the spot for when I find myself craving a gyro. My only issue is that sometimes their card machine is down, and a stranger once had to buy me my dinner because the woman working at the register didn't seem to want to give me any direction on if I was supposed to go run to Moreland for an ATM or what. The man working was such a kind soul, we talked about German style Döner Kebabs and how they differ from Turkish ones. He gave me samples of the falafel and balkava, both of which were excellent. Tucked away in Little Five Points, Ali Baba is the literal definition of a hole in the wall. One of Atlanta's hidden gems. The BEST falafel wraps are here. Everything is always fresh and made once you order. I cannot do the falafels justice with words. They are absolute perfection in every bite. The ratio of veggies, hummus, falafel, and the sauce has been perfected. You get so much food in each wrap. When I order the wrap + a side, I almost always can never finish as it is so much food. Given the fact that it's not as well known is really surprising. My mouth starts to drool when I think of the food. Getting my falafel wrap with the spicy sauce was the highlight of my day when I used to work in Little Five. I went so often, that Mohammad would give me a falafel to snack on while I waited for my wrap and would always throw in a free drink and sometimes a free side. I even got many of my coworkers hooked. Like I said, sometimes I wouldn't be able to finish my food during my lunch break as there was so much so from time to time when I went back to work, I would be eating during the little breaks I got here and there, and every single time the customers of our store would ask what I was eating and where I got it as it looked so good. If you're able to navigate through the hipsters that have set up shop outside of Ali Baba/Java Lords, then you'll find some good eats within. I stopped in for a falafel after a busy day of errands and before a busy night of drinking, and it totally hit the spot. Even eating it a few hours after purchase it was mighty tasty, with flavorful falafel patties and a bangin' pita. A bit heavy-handed on the cucumbers, so I'll just be sure to order light on those next time around. Dude behind the counter was totally friendly so not sure if I got lucky or if they've taken the complaints of rudeness to heart. I dig this place. The owners are so friendly, they always give out free desserts! :] The gyro is not bad, ingredients are fresh, and they can make it as spicy as you like which is a huge plus for me. The lady fingers are too sweet for me, but they're well made. The beef and potato pastry is delicious! So oily and good, haha. The hookah here is pretty good, though they have a serious lacking of flavor choices. Hookahs cost around 15 a piece. Service is always prompt and friendly. A nice little place to stop in for a quick bite or to chill with a hookah. Though I wish they bought some seat paddings for those benches they have, my poor boney ass cannot withstand sitting there for more than 30 minutes. read more

Today at work I was doing my usual thing, reading Yelp boards, and Twittering with the Twelpers when I suddenly got a wild hair- I think I want to eat something new today! Well, let's see, I've eaten at every vegan accommodating place in the 'hood, but wait, what about that Ali Baba place? I hit up Yelp, looked at reviews, hmm, not bad, sounds promising. Just to be sure I was doing the right thing, I stuck a feeler out on Twitter with my proposal of possibly going outside my comfort zone. Jeff G. immediately posted that I need to go there, and attached a picture of his last vegan meal there, SOLD! I made sure to read the reviews and menu (I had heard the guy who works there is, umm a little gruff) and armed with knowledge skipped on down the street. The guy (who did look at me like if I don't order right he will boot me out) asked for my order and I said falafel- with tahini. He turned around, and eyeing me carefully, asked me if I was vegan. I muttered yes, and began to worry- until I looked right in front of me and saw vegan samosas in the display case, whew! Guy is odd but down with my needs! I scurried back to my store and opened up my to go box, looks yummy, but what's this red juice? Hot sauce on a falafel? Is this normal? And if so, how have I never had this yummy combination before? Needless to say I am stuffed and satisfied. For about $7 you definitely get what you paid for, and more, I still have half of my falafel left. Ali Baba's is my favorite restaurant. I would go here every day, but that would diminish the experience. Vegetarian? Carnivore? This is your place. Falafel is the bomb. Gyros with Lamb or Chicken is the bomb. Fruit/Pasta salad, the BOMB. This is a lunch counter with an indoor counter seating, and outdoor tables shared with the coffee shop next door (and seven stages). The guys here are super friendly. They blast Turkish techno. This is a review for the hookah...not the food. I grew up in the Middle East and have been smoking hookah since before puberty even hit me! They charge as much as any other hookah joint, but the hardware as in the hookah was craptastic! Too small and worn out. Single foil layer tends to burn all the tobacco very quick and makes the smoke harsh. I smoked for like 20-30 mins and the hookah was done by this point. Good strategy by the owner, to get the customers to buy another bowl of tobacco or leave in a jiffy once your hookah tastes like shit. Even the foil wasn't fitted on the bowl cleanly. This is a great place for the "you just happen to be in Little 5, get hungry and need to eat something quick" times that you have. I've had the falafel wrap like Ansley - very good! The combo is $7.75, which includes a drink and a side. What would really seal the deal for me is if they had any form of potatoes (fries, Greek potatoes, etc.) - but the sides that are available are pretty tasty too. Grape leaves are fresh and the hummus has a really unique flavor. The inside seating is pretty small - just rows against the wall with bar stools. But outside has a cute patio - just beware if you sit near the air conditioner outside you may get loudness or weird AC blowing effects. ____ ** exciting edit as of 10/11/07! We used to live in Germany, which has a robust Turkish population. Real, authentic Turkish food, predictably, is an every day part of the culture there. Sure, there is high-end Turkish cuisine. But, what about the day-to-day food that Turkish people eat when they are in Turkey, or that they bring with them when they emmigrate? That stuff is great! We've been missing it since we left Germany. We found it here. This is the real deal - just like in Germany, at least. The two Turkish guys in the store were very nice, very helpful, and very, very good at delivering an awesome slice of their national cuisine. We had not tasted these wonderful flavours for years. We were in heaven, sitting in the hookah area enjoying absolutely delicious donners and falafel. The offerings are extensive, however, so we will have to return for some additional samplings. This is the kind of place that makes Atlanta a great place to live. For authentic Turkish food in Atlanta, this is as good as it gets. read more

This place is located in a kind of sketch part of town but that whats made the food even better. There's no parking or place to really park your car so either park far away or dont bring your car at all. The food here is fresh and very lean. There is very little grease used to cook anything. Given this the food is still very tasty and the portions are very large for the price. Just get the combo meal. It's cheaper and its very worth it. I got the lamb sharwama with a tabouleh salad. After eating just the salad I was already full. I would definately come back here again. read more

In Little 5 and not in the mood for Pizza? Drop by Ali Baba. This place is run by such a nice Turkish man and is pretty reasonably priced for Atlanta. Firstly though, the food. It was good. No denying it's filling and the portions are nice. Best Turkish food in Atlanta? Not by a long shot. Cafe Agora pretty much pwns these guys into the ground. But if your in the area and want a great Mediterranean appetizer sampler. Like another reviewer said, you could be a bit disappointed by their meat (not shaved off, nor is it all that freshly grilled) but their Tabouli had a great full taste to it. I hate to rag on a place where they were nice enough to give us an extra plate of humus, baba ganoush, and pita, but... Dolmas? Fail. and the rest just felt so... the way I would make Mediterranean food... stuff from Publix that I would sort of prepare and chop up and chill and take out of its wrapping so I could get the credit. But really, it's about the ambiance. Which is great. The sweet owner. Who's such a nice guy. and a really good alternative to Savage pizza in L5P. If you're in the area? Drop in, for sure. Ali Baba is delicious. As a Georgia State Student, I ate at the one downtown once a week! The only problem is that downtown is a ghost town after lunch and the Ali Baba downtown closes early. The Ali Baba in L5P is open later, and two doors down from the Variety Playhouse. They serve up the best Doner (beef and lamb) gyro wrap in town. The place is run by really nice Turkish guys who are always giving huge portions and are super friendly. Typical Mediterranean fare here, from great homemade falafel, several varieties of baklava, tabbouleh, baba ganoush, etc, etc, etc. I always have a problem deciding between the falafel and doner gyro wrap. Both are fantastic. I always ask for extra hot sauce and banana peppers on my wraps, adds a nice zing. In addition to the food, which would be enough, Ali Baba offers a chill hookah lounge in the back room and their prices are really reasonable. Finally, this Ali Baba is friendly-dog-friendly. We bring our 65-pound (docile and well behaved) dog in with us and they give her meat scraps and water. Super cool. The best part is two people can get combos with a wrap, a drink and a side for under $20 including tip. Great street food. read more

Baba's also does a great turkish coffee - thick and bitter to cut the super sweetness of baklava, the traditional mediterranean desert. The food is all very reasonably priced too. The staff were very friendly and made my friends and I feel very welcome yesterday. This is where the extra star comes from. We took our time eating and chatting in the cozy turkish-style dining room. The low tables, bench seating and tapestries hung on the walls make this place very comfortable. read more

Perhaps I have been remiss due to the close proximity to El Myr and Zestos which I tend to visit often when I am in the neighborhood. But on the day I went the Inman Park Festival was going on and I was jonesing for a Gyro given that eveyone seemed to be ordering them from food trucks.Plus Ali Baba had a Donor combo special going (presumably to compete with the festival food trucks) featuring a wrap with extra meat and feta cheese plus drink and side. The Turkish donor is similar if not outright identical to a Gyro and I was not too keen on buying one from a food truck so that prompted my decision to patronize Ali Baba. The guy at the counter was friendly and comped me a sample of some kind of bean salad to go along with my donor and stuffed grape leaves. The Donor at Ali Baba has some kind of peppery red sauce in addition to the yogurt sauce. You pay at the counter and then find a table in an adjacent side room or outdoor back patio. Another option is to sit at a tall stool and eat at a small high counter accross from the register. I chose the back patio which had a lively cast of characters that day (folks taking a reprieve from the festival). I am a fan and will be back. read more

Umm Ali Baba should be labeled Ali Bye Bye I was craving a Falafel sandwich today but wasn't in the mood to drive from my home in Grant Park all the way up to Roswell/Sandy Springs to go to Aladdin's BIG MISTAKE BABY! Dude that prepared my food was uber friendly and even gave me a sample of their grape leaf wraps. He's the reason for the 2 stars :) Here we go....where on earth are falafels served ICED COLD? My falafel balls were pre-cooked and chilling behind a glass deli display case waiting for me to order em, say what now...YES THEY WERE pre-cooked! The bootleg pita tortilla like wrap was heated on a panini press and my ICE COLD falafel was then assembled. I ran to my car dying of starvation and took one bite and all I could think of was what a disgrace. I almost wanted to cry.... I was literally salivating at the mouth for hot steamy deep fried crunchy falafel balls. You Yelpers be tripping with y'all fake 4-5 star review. Be HONEST people!
