Fantastic restaurant! We were lucky enough to come on a nice evening in May, so we enjoyed the rooftop dinner and nice breeze. I had the shrimp and scallops, as well as the gumbo. Everything was delicious and spot on. Really enjoyed the whole experience and I'd definitely come back! read more

We ordered take out from this restaurant in Atlanta. It was quite good! The order was easy to place and pick up. The packaging worked well for our short walk to our hotel. There is free parking in front of the restaurant. No reservations needed and no wait time. Waiter was super attentive. Enjoyed hummus for appetizer, and wines which included glasses of White Haven and La Jolie Fleur, and also a wonderful cocktail called Byzantium Breeze. Entrees were Chicken Gyro Platters and Lamb Kebabs. The waiter ended our meal with a sample of rice pudding. Also want to mention the pita bread was amazing, light, fresh and warm. SO SO SO GOOD. I'm obsessed with this place. They give you such large portions for a reasonable price. My favorite is the chicken gyro plate. The chicken is always on point. They are really quick with to-go orders which is what I normally do. They do however have a nice outside patio for outdoor dining. Cafe Agora is a very decent Mediterranean which does everything ok, nothing bad, but nothing great. We went to Cafe Agora after seeing great reviews and because Mediterranean is our favorite type of food. Upon arriving the restaurant was clean but pretty cold, a little dark, and we didn't feel like the service was anything great. To start we had Sigara rolls (cheese) which are basic but might have been the best part of the mean, we also had the hummus which tasted similar to a store bought hummus. We both had a gyro plate for our entrees and nothing really stood out over other Mediterranean places we have tried. To be clear nothing was bad or offensive but it was all very average. Overall I'd be interested in giving Cafe Agora another try if I'm nearby, but it's not a place I'm dying to come back to. read more

Cafe Agora is a decent spot for Mediterranean food! There is seating both inside and outside and the interior of the restaurant has a rustic feel with some cool decorations. The service was also good. I got the Chicken Shish Kebab which was good, but I felt like the chicken was not super tender. The Turkish Potatoes were a bit of a let down because I felt like the sauce was what made it goodthe potatoes itself did not taste like they had a lot of seasoning and so the overall flavor was not really there. My husband and I visited this place for lunch yesterday. They have a parking deck right in front, it's free. The did not even require advance reservations, it was pretty empty. The host was friendly, interiors were very Mediterranean. It mentally transported me back to Mykonos. The blue and white walls and the paintings really set the mood. The food arrived pretty soon. Glad we finally came! We came earlier on a Saturday night so free parking out front was available. We were seated immediately and our server is as prompt and friendly. I had a tamarind bourbon drink that was delicious. Portions are very large so you won't leave hungry. Lamb dishes were all delicious, from the shank (suucculent and rich), Turkish lamb version, lamb gyro plate and lamb gyro itself. The gyro wrap was large and very filling. It has a lot of area and places to go if you want to walk around after dinner. But the spot itself is very nice and well kept but it's still looks kind of rural and rustic in a Mediterranean sense. And there's plenty of patio so there's more than two or three tables outside. But the indoor is very nice and aesthetically pleasing so if you wanted to stay in the air conditioner this would be a good spot as well. I got seated right away, and I got water right away, even though it took a minute for the server to get to me. But the service here was really nice, I don't have any issues overall. I got suggestions on what I could try. Everything was good though. Now I'm very biased because where I'm originally from they have a heavy population of people who are of Mediterranean descent so I am very spoiled lol. But I try to go into it with an open mind! Sigara (beef) rolls were pretty good. There is a lot of dill flavor in them so if you don't like dill then they may not be for you but I enjoyed them. They were brought to me still hot and the sauce added a little extra cool taste. Just think of them as egg rolls. My only gripe with them was they came out a little bit burnt so they may have said enough fire a little too long but they still at the same flavor though. Chicken gyro was good. The service was great and best of all, the FOOD!! Yummy!! We started with the sampler plate of different dips followed by Dolmas (stuffed grape leaves), and buttered and fried cheese sticks that I cannot remember the name of at the moment Also the shush kabob of lamb and fries with salad that it came with. Everything was exceptional!! Ended with a pistachio baklava dessert that was perfect! Highly recommend. Ive been frequenting this establishment now for 15 years and can recall when Algora's was two smaller cafe's before they moved to the current location. The current location is very upscale, roomy and has a bar area as well which I dont recall either location having before. The service has never been bad. For food, its never been bad. I would recommend the Mezza plate and ballon bread. The Mezza is an appetizer that has Hummus, Baba Ghanouj, Tabouleh and other savory sauces while the ballon bread is flat bread that "ballons" up in the middle when baked. Its fresh and made to order. For the main course I always get the Adana Kabob, the seasoning is perfect along with a little zing as well which is served with pita bread, short grain white rice and a salad which are also fresh. Ill mention that the gyro meat, both the beef/lamb and chicken have always been decent but I dont go here for the gyros. To me going to this place to order a gyro patter is like going to a steakhouse and ordering the chicken. There are other places if you're looking for gyro meals at a reasonable price but still if that is your thing... Overall, this a must for anyone looking for a place that is high quality near eastern food. They are on the pricey side but nevertheless, the quality has been consistent, and this is after a decade and a half of being a patron here. read more

My call of complaint to the restaurant went straight to the mailbox with an announcement saying the mailbox was unavailable. I then called their Midtown location, explaining my situation and asking for a working number for the Buckhead restaurant where the order was placed. The woman with whom I spoke put me on hold and came back saying she would get a number and get back to me An hour later no call. Over $20 have gone down the drain. Whenever I am near Buckhead, there's only one restaurant I think about going: Cafe Agora. I trust the authenticity of the food from here. And always looking forward to the rice puddling they give at the end. I post a lot of Asian food and rarely Mediterranean, so I look forward to learn & share more in the future. Dolma has a pleasant fresh tarte taste, it's soft and filling (since it's stuffed with rice). First time having grape leaves and everything works together very well. I recommend at least trying this at least once. Hummus ain't strong in flavor like the ones you get at the store (which can be overly salted). The flavor hits in the after taste. Light in color so you know it's fresh. Sigara Boregi Beef - imagine crispy spring rolls that's savory and packed with beef whenever you take a bite, then you will like this. Wish this came in fours so we don't have to split the last one. Chicken Shish Kebab is a classic dish. I'm a lamb lover but chicken was tasty too. I always enjoy the fresh greens they serve with it. Lamb Shank (dinner menu) - I crave this dish but I can't get it alone. The lamb is soft & perfectly cooked off the bone. The tomato sauce is delicious but the tartness can be overwhelming. The only veggies are roasted tomato and green bell pepper. This is why I need the salad from my partner's plate. It makes the dish balanced. Doner Kebab Plate - not my dish but the fries were fantastic. Pistachio Baklava - The first time I was served Baklava, it was the size of a brick. When I saw their portion, I was disappointed by the contrast. But learning how sweet this dessert was, it's meant to be a one-biter. This pastry is very sweet & sticky but I enjoy the crispiness on the top. Sutlac (Turkish Rice Pudding) - They serve a small cup of this when you checkout which is the perfect ending to any meal. We went here for my Friend's birthday two days ago around 1pm. My friend reserved a table for 14 people inside and was hoping to have a great time overall. However, a few unfortunate incidents took place that I thought of sharing. The very First thing that went Wrong: The host was walking towards the door of the restaurant from the patio and we were right behind him. He clearly saw us so I thought he would hold the door but it slammed right on our faces which shows he did not bother. Second incident: No greetings at all or asking how we are. He just asked if we had a reservation and I said yes, the rest of the party is already seated so should I just go look for them or do you know where they are seated? His response: There are too many people in there but go ahead see if you can find your friends. I did not like his tone at all. Third incident: We are sitting for almost 30 mins, no one showed up and asked if we wanted anything to drink or wanted any appetizers. Finally, he came and with an attitude took everyone's orders- wasn't interested in explaining the menu or anything. Fourth incident: Two of our friends needed to leave early so they asked if they could get their check, our server says: No there is only one check so I cannot separate it now. My friend said, well but we were all gonna pay separately, is there any way you could try that? The server said: No it is not possible for me to make separate checks since you didnt tell me during ordering. So don't you think he should have asked us if it will be one check or separate? Because all the restaurants ask about it before they bring you the check. How are we supposed to know to let him know before we ordered the food? So I requested and said: I am sorry we cannot pay all together, we would have told you if you asked but we would really appreciate if you try to separate it. His response: OH MY GOD! and he leaves. Fifth incident: When we were done eating, we wanted to cut the cake so we asked if they could clear the table a bit but no one bothered to do that, instead he asked us to walk up to the register and pay before leaving. How is this professional at all in a restaurant like Cafe Agora? It is a nice elegant restaurant so we expect to receive the check and not walk up and pay like we do in fast foods because I am paying extra money for the service too. Well, the food was great and I would love to go just for the Adana Kabob or even the mixed grill platter, however, the service is really poor and that makes me not want to go ever again. Decent Turkish cuisine. But, nothing really outstanding. In other words, it was just average. The best item was their mezze appetizer featuring various dips and spreads. I think most people would like that one (see picture). The entree options were kind of limited. Mostly gyros or skewers. Other than that, there's 2 fish entrees and mousaka. I had the chicken and the flavor was fine. But, I've had similar at the ubiquitous Greek quick service places. Other than the food being average, I was also annoyed by how they dealt with my kids orders. My daughter ordered off the kids menu. My son (11 years old) asked for the salmon. I interrupted him while ordering and said that he needed to select the kids meal options (which didn't include salmon -- which was a $23 item). He ordered the same thing as my daughter. So, when the food came out, the waiter brought a kids size for my daughter and an adult entree for my son! This was done despite him hearing me correct him and order the kids entree! Overall: A pass.
