Hysterical. I am laughing hysterically. This is the best diner as voted by the residence of the Capitol region? What? It has to be a joke. I mean no one really eats here more than once, right? Because we came tonight at the behest of a family member who used to go there. So much was wrong with the food....Where to start? Well I guess at the first sight of the clam chowder. It was literally yellow and gelatinous. And? Awful. Let me be clear: Awful. Yellow. So yes I had one half a spoonful. And. Yes. Awful. The family member ordered a burger that came charred, dry & like a salted brick. High point of the hysterically bad experience? The pilgrim sandwich had Turkey. Real Turkey. Actually the only edible portion of all three meals. Sadly the "stuffing" was grey mush. Not one single trace - literally not one trace - of bread was apparent. Just mush. I used to looooove Alexis, but the past few times the food has been meh. Coffee was burnt tasting, the gyro meat was verrrry dry. Salad was great, and service as always was fabulous. This is the busiest diner I've ever seen, so many people here for Sunday brunch. The food was great and portion was huge, I got Corned Beef Hash Omelet and my bf planned on having omelet as well, but after he saw the picture of Steak & Eggs on the menu, he decided to get that. Even though there were a lot of people, we got our food fast, and staff there checked on us often to refill our coffee. Overall a very nice experience with Alexis Diner, just one thing though (one star off), they put butter on my toast (unlike other diners that put butter on the side), I don't like butter so I didn't eat my toast. Just ordered two salads and both had issues. Chef salad had very little salad in it and meat was dry. The taco salad also had dry taco meat and was missing the cheese. I also ordered chicken with it and it was dried out. When I went to pick up the order the owner lady was snippy and said we don't do special requests...really? You are a diner and it never was a problem before. I also paid for extra sour cream and it never was put in the order. $33 for two salad.... Never again. Stopped in with my honeypie for breakfast this morning. I got the Veggie Lover's Skillet with tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms, and hashbrowns, with eggs over easy and cheese on top. It was delicious and a challenge to finish. She got the breakfast special- eggs, hasbrowns, and sausage with toast. It might not sound like a complicated order but it came quickly, was hot, and was expertly served by our attentive waitress (Jordan). I definitely recommend this place. If your a fan of diners, I would be very surprised if after a visit Alexis Diner doesn't end up near the top or at the top of your list of Capital Region diners. read more

Alexis diner has your standard diner fare. I've gone for breakfast several times and been very pleased with the omelets. They are flavorful, plentiful and all around excellent. Nothing special but that's what I like. Gone several times for dessert and coffee. Recommend the banana cream pie. Staff is friendly, prices are average. We were looking for a place for lunch after getting off the Amtrak train. It's only about 5 miles away. I had a turkey club with just 2 slices of toasted rye and choose tuna Mac as my side. It also came with coleslaw. My husband had a deluxe burger and fries. Everything was delicious. It tasted very fresh. The turkey was carved turkey and my sandwich was excellent although I ended up with a box because I couldn't finish it. My husband enjoyed his deluxe burger and fries. Service was friendly and efficient with drinks refilled without having to ask. They have a shaded outdoor patio although we ate inside. If you are in the area and hungry go check it out. Ok, so I travel a lot for my business. I have family in the Albany area including Troy. Over the past many years I have gone to the Alexis Diner for mostly breakfast and have enjoyed it. The food is great, the portion size is near family style and the cost is in the middle. Over all the value is good. However, I have diabetes and because of some personal issues, it got out of wack and I gained weight.... not a lot, but enough that my doctor said, loose the weight, get it under control or we have to look at other means to control it. Great !!! I have cut the carbs down to almost nothing and have lost the 25 lbs. I needed to and I weigh what I did in High School some 50 years ago. So here's the problem, I went to Alexis Diner today, ordered an Omelette, with some cheese, onion bacon and peppers. I asked to have fruit instead of the home fries, cooked in oil, and no toast. No was the answer....... I replied, but an order of fries is $2.99, the toast is $1.99 and the fruit would only be $3.99. Therefore, they are making an additional $1.00 in pure profit from the deal. No was the answer! Really? OK, Alexis Diner, if that's your position in attempting to hold on to your customers and those who have special food requirements such as Diabetes, we are done. One of the worst food establishments I've been to in a very long time. My table got 2 sandwiches (cajun chicken and a burger) both of which the breads were stale. I asked for new rolls and they brought back a hot microwaved plate of bread that was still stale. I tried to just eat the middle of the cajun chicken sandwich but the chicken was so dry and tough. The burger was also extremely dry and you can tell they are old frozen patties. We didn't eat the sandwiches and asked for the plates to be taken away. When the bill comes, they still charged full price for both sandwiches which is just horrible customer service. I wish either of us ate the meals to say at least we left full but we left starving. I would never send anyone I cared about here. There are plenty of other great local diners and restaurants in the surrounding area with staff and owners that actually take pride in what they do! read more

I feel bad leaving bad reviews and I also feel bad waiting for food and being disappointed. I think there are a number of dishes Alexis does well. Diner classics are fine, their gyro is tasty, their omelets are fine. I've enjoyed their soups. I think they might be a victim of their success. I don't know how they're managing post-COVID-19. I stopped in for lunch togo. The service was amazing, the lady quickly took my order and the wait time was only 10 minutes. Not bad in my opinion during the lunch rush! A little surprised this place has less than 3 stars. Its a diner. Your standard Jersey diner, but displaced in Albany, NY. I have been here twice now. Once for breakfast and once for lunch. I'm not sure what people ordered here, but I go for standard fare. Omelet and a grilled chicken salad. Both were fine. Salad was even a little better than fine. However, I do wish they had better low fat dressing choices or offered avocado on their salads. Always amazes me what people order at diner's especially when people order the braised buffalo or the seared salmon...maybe thats why you had a bad meal, maybe your a moron. Our typical Sunday morning begins with breakfast at Alexis, but we also go for the occasional lunch or dinner. We drive past other diners to get there from where we live because Alexis consistently gives us a pleasant experience, and we look forward to it every week. Let's face it: Prices have increased everywhere, which I understand. My objection is to other establishments that simultaneously increase prices and reduce serving sizes. The portion size for what you're paying has not decreased, regardless of whether Alexis has raised any of the costs, which says a lot about how much they value their customers. Some of the other "Diners" in the area do not put effort into establishing and maintaining great relationships with their patrons. Here's the deal. Alexis Diner is a nice joint, staff is very friendly, I always get eggs benedict its always great. I'd say its mainly a breakfast place cause I had dinner there a few times wasn't that great. But what do you expect when the dinners are $15. Now this is crazy, me and my friends ate at Alexis for breakfast a few months back and half way threw my meal my friend says "ew there is hair in my food" which there was I saw, so he told the waitress and she was happy to bring him a new meal, when he started eating again he found another hair! I told him its not worth the trouble and just forget it, so he went to eat his toast he came across another hair! This made me not want to go back to Alexis diner, but I still do. read more

I have been eyeing this diner for a long time (driving past it on the way to meetings and wondering when I would have one here) and today I finally got to eat here. I have to say it was pretty, pretty good. I had the Friday Special of Seafood Newburgh--a very large amount of shrimp and scallops, in a creamy red sauce atop rice--accompanied by Manhattan clam chowder. The seafood component in both was excellent, the flavor balance (including a nice shot of sherry) good, and I am still standing by virtue of not eating most of the cream-soaked rice. My colleague had a fish dish and requested huge amounts of sliced lemon which they gladly brought her. Of a busy noontime, service was excellent. Prices for both of these were under $10 including soup. Do they allow you to sub salad for soup? Don't know, would be a good idea. I actually did not see any salads served at any of the tables around us. Alexis is really busy but service is efficient. At first when I walked into the diner, I was pretty excited from the quick service and really friendly staff. I ordered the lunch buffalo chicken wrap and a red velvet cookie. I sat outside and waited for the takeout order. Red Velvet Cookie: This was pretty yummy, though it was ginormous. I definitely had a little of a sugar coma afterwards. It was the perfect crunchy rim with chewy, gooey center. Yums. Sprinkled with some chocolate chunks and white chocolate bits. What's more perfect than that? Buffalo Chicken Wrap: So this was supposed to come with a chicken and corn chowder, but it wasn't in my take out box anywhere. They included an overseasoned tiny tin of salad instead, but I'm not sure if that just came with it? The chicken was definitely underseasoned and tasted quite bland. The wrap itself just wasn't all that appealing and didn't seem to be really rich in stuffings. We eat at the Alexis Diner a couple times each month. It's our favorite diner in Rensselaer County. We always feel welcome there. It's very consistent. Today we went for a quick breakfast and they accommodated us with a quick and delicious breakfast. The coffee cups are a generous size and they kept it coming. The seating is comfortable, it's very clean, and the folks who run it are both highly competent and friendly. We feel lucky that it's not far away. Very good breakfast in a very busy diner. We got a table right away and had some really great food. It was nice to see that when it got busier the owner (I think it was the owner, if not maybe a manager) came out to help.
