Great new place that just opened in st.charles! Staff was fast and friendly especially with us being in on their first Saturday. Food was fresh and delicious. I love breakfast burritos and this was possibly the best one I've ever eaten! The only recommendation I have to the restaurant is to have regular black tea available. When you order hot tea (my drink of choice) they bring you a selection of green, white, and black teas which is wonderful but the only black tea is decaf. I need my caffeine in the morning. As you can see from my previous review, we loved Alexander's cafe, and would frequently drive 30 minutes to have breakfast there. Unfortunately, we won't be returning. Our last visit, my Benedict was cooked incorrectly and missing the pesto sauce. Our server went to remedy the problem, but instead of taking the dish back to remake or reassemble, we were brought the missing ingredients. Not only were those ingredients now impossible to integrate, but the whole dish was cold at this point. After informing the server, the dish was remade and brought back out... hot, but as wrong as what it first came out as. At this point, we gave up on the dish, but the chef came out and personally gave me a Togo bag with the same dish, freshly made, despite the item having been comped off our bill. Obviously I'm very grateful and thank them profusely. When we got home, the packaged Benedict was again... missing components. While I appreciate their efforts, and all the staff, from bus to manager has always been amazing, my partner was effectively miffed by this event and has refused to ever go back. I need to stop being so myopic in my reviews (rating places typically either 1 or 5 stars) so to shake it up, here is a 3-star place. I have been to Alexander's about 1/2 dozen times in the past 2 or so years - and can confidently say they own a consistent 3-star review. I always get the breakfast. The eggs, hash browns, coffee and orange juice are all great, but the toast is not really "toast", it's more like it's semi-grilled... like it's a combo of bread and grilled bread (not a fan). Also, the bacon is always too salty and over-cooked. There's always a fair amount of customers so the wait time for tables is negligible. Oh my GOSH!!! This place is absolutely amazing! Very clean, manager and severs were very pleasant, and food was phenomenal! Nice portions as well! Did you know this lace has been there since the 60's?? No? Me either! I'm so glad we just happened to find Alexander's I had the Lady's delight skillet and my husband had grilled chicken breast breakfast. Our food was very fresh. I don't mean just cooked fresh but the item's themselves were fresh. Even the water tasted really fresh! I am definitely coming back with family and friends! This is an amazing quick breakfast place in St Charles. I've tried multiple different menu items but my favorites are the Berry Crepes and the Butchers Block Skillet! I am always greeted by friendly faces and quick service. The food is always fresh and delicious and there's a lot of options to pick from. I like my eggs a special way and my hash browns a special way and my order always comes right. After driving by A's for several months now on my commute to/from work, I decided the time was right to utilize my PTO day and go there for lunch. Upon walking in, my wife and I were pleasantly surprised at the comfortable and inviting atmosphere. We first saw the Intelligentsia coffee sign and we knew that was a good indicator of things to come. My wife had the blackened chicken which had a nice "sriracha/mayonnaise" type sauce which she thoroughly enjoyed. I had the Reams (yes, Reams of Elburn!) bratwurst burger with caramelized onions and it was tremendous. Both sandwiches were served on pretzel rolls which really kicked it up a whole other level. The fries were also done well with a nice seasoning. Next time we will go for breakfast since I saw some truly great looking breakfast skillets being served as well as some french toast stacks that looked unreal! Parking is a little tight but no big concern. They do not serve dinner but hopefully one day they will! read more

I can't think of a single negative thing to say! My sister and I were told a 15 minute wait and it was probably only around 10. During the wait, the manager (I assume) gave the line OJ samples, which was very thoughtful! The food was outstanding! This is my first trip here since opening. It is well laid out, easy access with a ramp or stairs. Everyone was very friendly. I was looking around and the manager came over and asked if I needed anything. I said just looking around. We went about 11 am and had access to breakfast and lunch. I had the Butcher Block Skillet: bacon, sausage, ham, red and green peppers, onions, 2 eggs, cheese and I added fresh sliced jalapeño. Delicious. Great presentation in a silver old West style skillet. Bonus they have Blackberry Jam!! My glass was never empty. Tiana B was our server and she was the perfect balance of effective and attentive. This place is pretty good! They have a really interesting menu and it reminds me of somewhere you would dine at in Geneva. It is a nice addition to the area and I am happy to see a business thriving in this area of town as it is so desperately needed in my opinion. The only suggestion that I would have is to add a bit more fries to the plate. We were a bit disappointed about that. Other than that, the food was great and our waitress was pleasant! Oh, and it gets pretty busy on the weekends! Plan to wait at least 15-20 minutes. read more

Having been here alot, have always had excellent breakfasts. Great coffee, not the normal restaurant type. If you have to wait, ask for a cup! Alexander omlette is the best. Very accomodating with requests, including gluten free pancakes. read more

Went here today after a bike ride and sorry, this one is not as good as the one in Elgin. The waitress was good. I had liver & onions w/mashed potatoes and my wife had chicken fried steak with hashbrowns and scrambled eggs easy. She asked for gravy on the side not on the chicken fried steak, the kitchen, not the waitress messed this up...because the waitress walked by and noticed my wife didn't get gravy on the side and asked if my wife wanted another one.....but we did get two extra sides of gravy for some reason. My wife said this was one of the worst chicken fried steaks she has had and the gravy on top ruined it. Both my wife and I always order the gravy on the side at every restaurant because every place puts too much gravy on everything!! The hash browns were also way overcooked, they were well past extra crispy. This place either was having an off afternoon or needs vast improvement. Update 6/1/18: I am increasing my review by one star because the business responded in a positive manner (unlike the cruddy NY Pizza Pie in Downers Grove) by offering me a gift card so since we had a not so great experience. I will now give this restaurant a 2nd chance. read more

When they first opened they seemed better but I still really like the food here. Love the fresh OJ and they have a great kids menu. My daughter loves the cinnamon French toast. The pork sausage for breakfast is just OK they need something a little better more like Bob Evans. read more

Holy cow arguably one of the best breakfast says I've ever had in years. When you walk through the door you see crates of oranges and now I understand why they make their own fresh squeezed orange juice that is the best I've ever tasted. There are sausages are homemade on site and or hashbrowns are incredible. All therefresh fruit is cut to order. We have been here for over an hour and have received no food. They brought our tea without spoons, it was cold before we could drink it. The waitress realized we were upset and has grown ruder and ruder. We asked if the were under staffed and they said they weren't. The table behind us asked for their check and still haven't gotten it and it has been fifteen minutes. I can't tell you how the food tastes because we haven't had it yet. Went there Sunday morning four of us altogether sitting outside for breakfast. It was a very sunny day so we tilted the umbrella so we would be out of the sun. The waiter came to us and said we are not allowed to tilt the umbrellas so we had to straighten the umbrella and sit in the sun the entire time we ate breakfast. He said it was managers orders not to tilt the umbrellas. When we went to pay for breakfast I spoke to the manager about this policy. He said on windy days he didn't want the tables to blow away. I explained to him there was not a wind issue that morning and we sat in direct sunlight drinking coffee and eating breakfast. He said all I could do is say I'm sorry. There was more he could've done he could've given us a gift certificate or take something off our check he did neither. So if you go to eat there and it's a sunny day I suggest you don't sit outside. read more

Wowza!!! I hardly know where to begin! I've been to this restaurant twice and its only been officially open for 2 days. I am addicted to the pancakes with cinnamon butter....they are delicious and are included with many breakfast entrees. A friend ordered the Huevos Rancheros and let me have a taste. It was delicious! (are you seeing a pattern here???:):):) My son ordered an omelette (the Alexander) that was in his words "very flavorful!" He really liked the addition of goat cheese, not to mention it was the size of a small football...even his teenage appetite found it hard to finish:) I could go on as there were more in our party that were equally thrilled with their meal but I encourage you to try this place out yourself! After reading all these five star reviews I will attempt to be a little more accurate regarding today's visit. The newly opened Alexander's isn't bad. But there were some hiccups. The place looks nice as we arrived at noon with a full parking lot. We were seated immediately by a friendly hostess. I heard her ask if we've been there before. That was the last thing I could hear....this place is LOUD! Same thing when our server (Mike) quickly came to the table. Had to ask him to speak up. The wife went with the Reams burger with sweet potato fries and me with the Roast turkey with biscuits and gravy. Our food came in less than 10 minutes. The turkey was dry. Just a dash of gravy. Had to order a side of gravy. Served with fresh veggies and sliced turkey off the breast it was really good after the gravy addition. The burger was a different story. Anytime restaurants add a " special sauce " I wonder what they're trying to hide. The sauce was off putting and ruined the burger. It was nothing more than thousand island dressing. It isn't that bad on salads but not on burgers. Overall the place was okay, as was the Food. Nothing special. And the burger was $ 12.98! That is a rip-off for what you get. Sorry, I'm not on the band wagon with this place... Plus it's off putting when the owner has to give an explanation for every problem you point out! read more
