We have used Alert Protective Services for 10 years. In a city with many other security choices, our decision to stay with Alert for so long, should be viewed as our endorsement of Alert's professionalism and service. Yesterday, I called with a false alarm problem. Alexey was here within 2 hours, fixed the problem, answered all my questions and went the extra mile to ensure I was totally comfortable with our security system. It doesn't get any better! read more

Gustavo is Alert protective best asset. Ask for him as much as you can. I was frustrated with alert at the beginning due to a bad sales representative who talked the talk but did not walk the walk. However, their technician Gustavo really took matters into his hands and did an amazing job! I am very impressed with people, like Gustavo, who take their job seriously and work after hours to resolve our issue. He understands the costumers needs and knows how to work with inspectors. I will use Alert again as long as I can have Gustavo as my technician! I give Gustavo 5 STARS!!! read more

Amazing to just recently realize that I have been covered by Alert since 1987 and for three homes. Pricing still a value compared to others, and service is great. When I've had a question, usually the phone support (thanks Howard for this week) walks me through it and they seem to be readily available. On site service has always been professional and really prompt! Today was no exception. Al was so nice and patient since I had a last minute clinic appointment and Jared and Chris and others in the office were so great about communicating with Al that I was running late. Above and beyond what you expect. But overall many years of great service at a fair price. Thank you. read more

They put in an extensive home system which was okay. When I starting having problems a year ago I called the service department to come out and help. No return call. Tried again this year with no return call. For the third try I was in contact with Peter from the service department who said he would send out a technician. That's as far as it got. Worst service I have ever encountered. My builder had previously used them on a lot of jobs. Not any more. Stay away from this company. They are in total disarray. Greg Meyering read more

I moved into a house that already had an Alert system, so I kept it and have had it for the past 3 + years. However, I needed to upgrade some equipment, so I decided to get some pricing from another company too, since I would have to pay Alert anyway if I kept them. I had other questions for Alert and I called twice, and was told, twice, someone would follow up with me, and nobody ever did, so I decided to drop them and go with the other company. I have used them for the past 3 years without incident but this past weekend I had an issue (before my new company took over) that was so frustrating, if I hadn't cancelled with Alert already, I would have. I cancelled my service with Alert because I had the new company coming to set up the next day. However I was still using my alarm at home because even if it's not monitored, the sirens etc still work if someone breaks in. In the a.m. I turned the alarm off and immediately started getting some type of warning alert on both of my house keypads- beeping every 30 seconds or so. Couldn't figure it out. So, I called the number on the keypad, and my debacle started. First of all, if it's not business hours, nobody picks up. You get a recording. Listening to the prompts, one of them is "If you are having a service issue or a false alarm, HANG UP AND CALL xyx." Ok I don't know about you, but if you had sirens blaring, or whatnot, who wants to find a pen and paper and jot down another number?! Why can't they prompt you to hit a key and get a live person? nope. So I found some paper, wrote down the number and called. And again, another message. Basically it was a long message (I was on the phone for 10+ minutes) talking through all the ways in which to reset your system if you have having an issue. "If your smoke alarm is doing xyz, hit reset plus 2 plus 17 and then blah blah blah" for 10 problems. It was SO FRUSTRATING when all you want is a PERSON. There was finally a prompt if you need to talk to/page a service technician, but literally 3 times the message says, "PLEASE ONLY CALL THE TECHNICIAN IF THIS IS A REAL, TRUE, EMERGENCY" like 5 times. OK, I get it, you're closed and don't want us to bother you but COME ON. I have been on the phone for 10 minutes, I don't need to be reminded that "if your problem can wait, please call us back during normal business hours." Thanks. I FINALLY got someone on the phone- and was put on hold, twice. I mean at this point I am going nuts from the chirping in my house. FINALLY when the woman picked back up I quickly said "PLEASE DON'T PUT ME ON HOLD AGAIN!" She took my info and said she'd have a service tech call me. I said, ok, thanks, will he call me this morning? And she laughed and said, "uh, yeah, I don't know when he'll call." Right. In the end, a tech DID call me maybe 30 minutes later, and was able to walk me through solving my issue. But COME ON. The customer service here is really lacking if your issue is not M-F 9a-5p. Until this weekend I wouldn't have complained about Alert but after this I am glad I switched. read more

I have had ALert for 3 months and had nothing but trouble. Cameras consistently going down, warning messages on keypads that could not be fixed, service center closes after 5 pm and therefore you talk to an operator who knows little about solving your problem. At time of signup they took my credit card for auto billing only not to use it and charge me a late fee. Contacted company once again who connected me to corporate. Left message with no return call. Unfortunately, this was a system that replaced ADT and did I ever make a mistake. read more

We had a pre existing system in our condo, and chose Alert to activate the service. They were on time for their appointment, and activated the system quickly. However, they did something wrong and we started getting a "trouble" call every day at 4 AM. It took them 3 attempts to get it right. Definitely frustrating, but it has worked well ever since they got it right. read more

Our experience with Alert Protective Services has been excellent. We originally were going to go with ADT, but after reading many of the reviews, it looked like perhaps ADT was not the way to go. Alert Protective Services came up as a top choice, and we did not officially decide to go with them until we asked a few friends, and they recommended them. We called the next day and were able to get an appointment for a security consultation in quick order. We worked with Rich McCullough who made time in his schedule to fit us in. He was able to review the security/alarm system that was already installed in the unit, and suggested using it as it was in good order. We were able to schedule the installation and begin services within four days after the consultation. This eased my concerns as we just moved in to our new home in between. Our installation tech arrived within the time frame promised, and was able to get everything up and running in about an hour or so. He was very helpful and showed us how to operate the security/alarm system. Thank you! read more

Our home was pre-wired for Alert Protective Services but we didn't activate for a while. A friend's toddler came over and pushed all the buttons causing the alarm to go off on a weekend and customer service was very helpful in guiding us how to turn it off. We then decided to activate the alarm and have it monitored. It's provided great piece of mind. I've accidentally set it off twice and they don't limit your false alarms. read more

I've had Alert Protective since 1996, in condo, and since 2006 in our current place. Great install job both times. Handy recommendations on how to have 2 sensors on the windows so you can alarm the house but keep windows cracked at night if you want. Occassionally, you do have to insist on a couple of things, like "no I don't want motion detectors even if you say cats don't set it off, they will". The signs are a good deterrent to the nefarious. But the biggest benefit is they will call when your sump pump has stopped working and your basement is about to flood. Saved us on several occassions. read more

Recently I decided to get an alarm system for the first time ever. I shopped around with all the major companies that both send representatives to your house, as well as the self instalation companies. After speaking with the representatives from Alert both on the phone and in person, I couldn't be happier. The rep and technician were very knowledgeable and friendly. While I did find a little cheaper prices with the self instalation companies, I'm much happier with the choice I made. read more

We've had this system for six months. The initial meetings went well and we were able to get all of the options that we were looking for in an alarm system, including fire protection and a cellular system. I was concerned about the installers running the wires in my brand new walls, but they are very good at what they do and it's like the system was built with the house. We've had one mysterious silent false alarm but other than that, the alarm service works well. I really like the alarm.com app that they integrate into the system, it's come in very handy on a few occasions. read more

Yes, will add my 5 stars here. After checking out ADT (who was asking for a 3 year contract), I did decide to work with APS. They've answered my many questions and did offer a 2 year contract. I had my own equipment from the previous owner and they managed to work with the existent sensors, control panels, etc. Service is courteous and prompt. The technician who "hooked" me up had the patience to test everything, explained the how and what and even stuck the alarm stickers on my windows! Also, by accident, I opened a window while in "Stay" mode and even though i had immediately entered the access code, the company called to check that everything was in order. Yes, good business! read more

Alert was already installed in a townhouse I recently rented and setting it up was a breeze. The people were very helpful and flexible in setting up apt times. They even put in a nice glass break feature for me. Having never had an alarm before I have no idea what it should cost but I found it very affordable. Would definitely recommend! read more

We used Alert when we previously lived in Chicago, and based on our previous experiences we wanted to use them again when we moved back. The customer service is fantastic. When you call their office, they immediately put you in touch with one of their on the field technicians, who are very professional. We had an older system that was having issues due to mishandling by previous tenants, and both times they had a technician to our place within 24 hours. We were also having problems with our landline, and they were able to fix that with no extra change. Seriously, for the price and the service, Alert is a no brainer! read more

When my condo got broken into, one of the first steps my husband I took after the break in was to get a security system installed. We had a really positive experience with Alert Protective Services. They were prompt, professional, and most important, their security system is easy to use (for us) and high quality. They also had no problem coming back in a few weeks later when we realized one of the alarms for the front door wasn't working properly. We've had the security system for a few months now and I'm very pleased with it. read more

We've been using Alert for a couple of months. The service technician came out on time, was curteous, did a great job of set-up and explaining the system. Made would could have been a complicated process easy! Keep up the good work guys!! :) read more

I've been using Alert Protective Services for about a year now and I have nothing but good things to say. When they first installed the system, they were very quick and efficient and their technician was easy to work with. Answered a ton of questions for my roommate and I was very patient, we asked a lot of questions! They are also quick to respond to any requests or questions I might have about my bill or my service in general. No complaints here! Check them out, they're great. read more

We just moved into our brand new home and Alert is who we chose as our alarm service provider. The tech showed up early and was very friendly. Once he completed the very quick installation, he spent the next half hour instructing my wife and I how to use our system and the multitude of options that are available. The service is fantastic and the product is easy to use. We couldn't be happier. read more

We just moved into a new home that had a foreign alarm panel to us. Within 2 short visits, Alert Protective was able to rewire the entire system without any damage to the house and met the needs exactly how we wanted the house to be wired. Both technicians showed up on time, were very kind to our dog and child, and extremely professional. They took the time to make sure we were comfortable with everything on the panels before they left. It is certainly a company that I highly recommend to anyone seeking monitoring service. read more

I've had my alarm system hooked up for two months and so far so good! When we bought our house, the system was already installed. One of the guys had to come out to set things up as it hadn't been used in a number of years. He was friendly, polite, and on time. He did a great job in showing me how to use the different features of the alarm. I've set off my alarm accidentally a few times and have called in right away to let them know and there have been no problems. Someone always picks up on the first ring and is professional and friendly to speak with. I have no problems recommending Alert Protective Services. The feeling of security is definitely worth their reasonable prices. read more

Been using Alert Protective for about 3 years. Cheaper than the other guys, much NICER than the other guys, and so easy to work with. One of my window sensors stopped working and they came out to replace FOR FREE. My front yard sign was accidentally broken and they dropped a new one off FOR FREE. I pay $25 per month and the install was about $900 upfront but I have a lot of windows and doors to protect. read more

The alarm system we purchased is great! We're two girls that just moved to the city and not knowing the neighborhood very well, we knew that it would make us comfortable knowing that we had a security system. With that said, Alert Protective Services has always been to our rescue. Whether it be an accident false alarm, they have called within seconds to make sure we were provided with the appropriate protection. THIS PLACE ROCKS!!! read more

We recently had our security system installed by Alert Protective Services. First we responded to an offer via mail through an intermediary for one of the big national security system chains and they tried to tell us the existing equipment wasn't usable and it would cost us thousands to put in a new system. Then we called the big national security system company. 2 different appointments were made and we were stood up both times. And it is impossible to get through their phone system to reach a live person to talk to. When you do, it's the wrong person and you need to be transferred. After setting up an appointment for them to do an installation using our existing equipment, we canceled due to terrible customer service. Enter Alert. They were recommended by two friends who use them and had great experiences. Any time you call you instantly reach a live person who can handle your questions. Installation is quick, monthly cost is significantly cheaper. If you like tech then they can install whatever you want and link it to your smart phone through the alarm.com app. Their installers came out a few times to install different parts of our system and they did a great job. They were able to use existing equipment and added other features we wanted. After dealing with terrible service from other providers, Alert came through with great service, great products, and better pricing. read more

Alert Protective are happy to take the monthly fee but are not there when needed. They installed 3 carbon monoxide detectors, but neglected to tell me they have built in obsolescence, nor did they call me in advance to let me know all would fail. As a result, three months after the planned obsolescence date, all three units started going off in the middle of the night, keeping my guests awake and angry. I requested service. Service man arrived with two units only, instead of the requested three. I asked him to also check smoke detectors, including batteries, which he assured me he had done. Two days later the smoke detectors failed for low batteries. I also asked to get a call from management. No-one called and to date there has been no effort to install the third carbon monoxide detector as promised. I called for support and was put on hold by Nora for 7minutes, then told everyone was on the phone. I also bought a second home and asked for a quote on new service. Rep came out in November or December. In January, he finally asked if I was still interested. I said I was definitely interested. In late April he texted me to say he was ready to move forward. By that time someone else had long ago quoted, followed up and installed. Needless to say I will be changing alarm companies. With service like this, I doubt that this company will come through in time of emergency. Stay away. read more

We got a fairly simple system installed by Alert, and so far we are very pleased. I did a lot of research and the benefits of going with a smaller local company with a certified monitoring system is so much better than ADT, Simplisafe, etc. It was easy to map out the system and it was installed and active less than a week later. The sales guy, installer tech, and support team have all been great, easy to talk to and ask questions of. Highly recommended. read more

My fiancee & I had been looking for a reliable, affordable private home security system for almost a year after our home was burglarized on Christmas Eve of 2016. After some personal research, weighing options and devices, video monitoring via apps and social media, my fiancee was directed by an old coworker to a former contractor who focused on recommendation and installation of security systems, mainly for businesses. We had Gustavo Dicrosta, or Gus as he introduced himself to me, stop in about 3 months ago. After some brief catching up, Gus was right into protection consultation mode. He knew what we needed to protect our home & was extremely thorough in suggesting what additions we needed to include in the security package he felt was best. Installation only a few days later was fast, clean, and Gus taught us how to use the system clearly & easily regardless of his worldly accent and witty jokes. We talked music & travel almost the entire time he was here. Gus was very amiable and friendly, and even checked in with my fiancee & I a mere few days after the installation just to make sure we were doing alright, not simply the security system. In all honestly, I hope we never have to review how quickly Alert Protective Services was able to protect us, or thwart a threat to our home, but both their system, their neighborhood business in Chicago, and the great service from Gus has helped to make us feel confident and secure whether we're home or abroad. Thanks Gus! read more

We have had Alert Protective Services since moving into the house, almost eight years ago. Service has been good throughout that period. Recently we were having an intermittant problem which involved two service calls to resolve. This was as good of a customer service experience as I have ever had. The technicians, Mike and Brian, were knowledgeable and very courteous, arrived promptly and resolved things in a highly satisfactory way. This is a good company with good service and I highly recommend them! read more

We had Alert install the security system in our new house shortly after we moved in. We have had it now for about 2 months and are very pleased. The advice we received when choosing our system features made good sense- I did not feel pressured to get every bell and whistle. Installation was very professional and on time. The system was explained to us in detail- though operation is quite simple and works well. I have never had an alarm system before but I do sleep a lot easier now. Pricing is very competitive and the process with Alert was very smooth and easy. read more

We recently moved and heard about Alert through our insurance agent. After reading reviews, we set up an appointment. We were very happy with the choice of products and the options available for our home. We were even more impressed that the monthly monitoring fee was so much less than the competition (which we had in the past). They came out and installed the system quickly. We've been very happy with the service. Every interaction whether it be in person, on the phone or via email has been positive. I would recommend Alert to anyone looking for affordable and reliable security services. read more

The home we moved into had a different security system and provider that had been paid for about 4 months into our new ownership. That group was one of the least customer service oriented outfits I have ever encountered. After not returning calls until a week later, they actually sent us a contract to renew for another 2 years. No Way! Through our own research and via the support of an old neighbor we confirmed that Alert was the best priced alternative with the level of service we desired. Setting up our house proved to be a bit tricky in eliminating the previous provider's equipment, but Alert has been persistent in helping us get it right. We love the off site control we can have in turning the system off and on. I would highly recommend this company for your security needs. read more

Alert has a personal touch. I never felt like I was dealing with a company that was just signing up customers one after another with no regard for customer care. This review is based on only a few months with this company, and converting my ADT land-line based system to their cell-based system. No experience so far handling actual alarm issues; only customer service and conversion experience so far. First of all, the price is very good for monthly service, and they do not charge extra monthly fee for cellular monitoring, only equipment costs. All my contacts with them on the phone have been positive; responsive and friendly. The conversion from ADT went without a hitch; some unwanted beeps/sounds were eliminated. We learned some new procedures such as how to give a "fake" I'm okay signal if we are responding to a monitoring call under duress. Although I had zero problems with ADT, I am glad to support a local Chicago business that seems to have its act together. read more
