I can't speak about the coloring here, but I have to say I'm really shocked by all of these reviews! I got my hair cut at Alanya twice during my days as a Georgetown undergrad and went for multiple shampoo and blowdries and always had a great experience! I also had my hair done here once for a black tie event and was really pleased with the outcome! I always found the owner and his staff to be very friendly and hospitable. Perhaps they have some issues with coloring, but for any other service I would definitely recommend Alanya! read more

I have been going to Cevat for about 1.5 years for highlights and haircuts. He is now the only person I let touch my hair! I've never had anything but 5-star experiences at Alanya. From long styles to funky undercuts, this place is my favorite in DC. read more

I came here for hair cut and highlights. And I love it. Cevat knows what he is doing. read more

Alanya - Hair Salons Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

First time customer, before Pandemic. Was last minute visit and they were accommodating, considering I didn't have an appointment. Turns out an old family friend works their, but wasn't there that day. But everyone was very kind and accommodating. Thou they did forget about me at the wash area. But another stylist passing thru saw that I was there a but longer than I should of and she finished me up and got me back to my stylist to sort out my mess. The shampoo girl did run out to catch up with me and sincerely apologized and 1/2 a block, she was refusing it but you know I tipped her, nearly had to stuff it down her shirt! OMG. But I was able to look very dapper after all to the charity event. read more

This is the best salon I have been to. I am upset that they are not in the NYC area because Cevat did the most amazing color job on my hair that I have not been able to replicate at any other salon in the NY metropolitan area. I had colored my hair with one of those cheap box coloring kits thinking it would not be a big deal, but instead of making my hair lighter like the box showed, it made it almost Black. Cevat stripped the color out and gave me the exact medium reddish brown color that I wanted, and he did not damage my hair in the process. He also gave me an amazing, sexy haircut and his assistant blew out my hair so it looked bouncy and glamourous. read more

I went there only because of my favorite hairdresser who I follow around. Everything was fine up until I got to the front desk to pay. Lady ( she's one of the owner so I heard) was not polite and did not speak to me professionally.. Entire time she was making faces and made me feel uncomfortable. I will NEVER return to this salon again ! read more

Owner Cevat Topcu was rude and obnoxious! The way he treats elderly customers is disheartening. I overheard him tell a senior (lady) if she didn't like her hair coloring go somewhere else!! I asked him to be polite to customers, especially the elderly, and he told me to mind my own business and "go away"! I took his advice and you should too! read more

Cavet is amazing. He is a hair color whisperer!! I highly recommend him for anyone looking for color treatment (of all shades) and a cut. I am blonde and get full highlights about every 8 weeks. My color is natural and bright - never looks streaky or dull. I get compliments from strangers on the street! He's affordable and incredibly talented. read more

I strongly advise people to STAY AWAY from this place. I use to a be a regular at this salon, when the hairstylist "DJ" was there. I only went to her, the best stylist I have ever had. However she left the salon sometime ago, a couple months before my wedding (I did not have a chance to ask her to do my hair for my wedding). I called ALANYA to find out if they had another stylist who could style my hair for the wedding. But when I found out how much it was going to be (I think around $300+, for hair do ONLY!!!), I decided to go else where. Needless to say, my hair looked fantastic on my wedding day for $100-at Aveda Georgetown. Couple months after my wedding, I decided to try ALANYA again, for a haircut (in retrospect a very stupid decision). This time I tried the male stylist (the owner) of the salon. He remembered that I had called regarding wedding hair-do a couple months ago (my name was in their system from the many times I had gone to DJ) and he spent the entire time "scolding" me about how I made a mistake in going to other stylists for my haircut/style and not him. It was EXTREMELY unprofessional, to say the least!! I agree with other reviewers, he is not a good listener (and tells you and gives you the hair cut he thinks you should have and not necessarily what you want) and I felt he was VERY rough when cutting my hair. This was witnessed by a friend who accompanied me to the appointment, and she was shocked herself. I WILL NOT BE RETURNING AGAIN!!! read more

Unfortunately, the owner of the salon thought he knew better than I did about my hair and blatantly ignored what I wanted. He did my highlights WAY too blonde so that now with the lowlights and roots I look like a zebra. He also said the charge for highlights was 160 and then left out the fact that lowlights were an additional 30 until I had to pay. On top of that his assistant who blow dried my hair was very rough. Unpleasant experience and way overpriced, avoid this place! read more

I've been going to David Bautista for my hair for many years, at least 20! He is an excellent hair stylist, and is always friendly and professional. No matter what I decide to do with my hair, go short, grow it long, highlights, color (I've been red, brunette, blonde), David always make me look and feel great! Even when I lived in Miami and Boston, I would try to come back to DC to see David every month to get my hair done because nobody else has been able to make my hair look as good as he does. I recently cut my hair short (again), and right after I got my hair cut, a women screamed across the parking lot at a gas station, "I love your haircut!" This kinda thing actually happens often because of David. I highly recommend him. read more

I think one star is excessive for the level of service you get at this dump. First of all they have 7 gel colors at the most and a machine to dry your nails that only goes 30 seconds at the time, so I spent an hour hitting it to come back often times not responding. Then I have one of the owners yelling at me across the room in front of other customers, that I never asked for red nail polish when I walked into the salon, so too bad! Just pay the full $30.00 because it's MY FAULT. To avoid confrontation I got my nails painted what I thought it was white, but in fact is a washed out beige. Worst experience ever and I still paid full price. The owner says to me this is not a nail salon but a hair salon that does nails. NEEDLESS TO SAY THE PLACE IS EMPTY!!! Now I know better. read more

I started going to this place 6 yrs ago place when I was still going to college in the area and still go back after having moved to NYC as I can't find anyone who does such a beautiful job as the owner Topcu. I typically hold out on getting my hair cut unless I am back in town. I have long hair and he knows exactly what to do with it so that I don't have to cut my hair for a long time between visits. read more

I've been going to Alanya for 7 years and have never had a bad cut or color. Cevat is super skilled, fast, responsive, and reliable. I know when I walk in -- as I do every 5-6 weeks given my short haircut - that I will leave with a cut and color I love. read more

I've been going to Cevat for my hair styling for over 17 years now - long before he started Alanya. Very fussy about my hair style - he has never given me a reason to look for another stylist. Does great work!! read more

AWFUL. I went to Alanya in Georgetown to have my roots touched and hair toned. After 2 hours of sitting in the chair, my hair was FINALLY done. I was very specific about not liking brassy, yellow colors & that i wanted to keep my long beautiful hair platinum blonde. i even pointed out the colors to the stylist (who didnt even touch my hair btw but had someone else do everything) and he assured me he knew the difference between toning & coloring hair. I have a PLAYBOY shoot this weekend (i.e why i needed to keep the platinum color) & i definitely woke up this morning with ORANGE hair. I called the salon this morning for a refund and they offered me nothing of the sort, but did offer to HIGHLIGHT my entire head of hair (which would likely make it FALL OUT after such a bad dye job). I even suggested they give me a salon credit instead of the highlight offer to use for a pedicure/manicure (seemingly a reasonable solution), & they rudely refused. needlesstosay, save your $200 and your hair & just go elsewhere. I'm a Gtown resident & have never been treated so unprofessionally in my own neighborhood. i hope this helps someone. read more

Totally disagree with these reviews. The owner of the place has been doing my hair for almost 2 years. I trust him fully!! He will say to me, this will look better.... But if I disagree he definitely listens! He just gives you advise. He's opinionated, yes but in a good way! He is the best at what he does and personally I would rather get good advise from someone who knows hair! I have never been disappointed and would recommend him to any of my friends!! read more

All 5's because Alanya is consistently excellent in the quality of color, cut, and aesthetic services and I've been asked by a work colleague and a neighbor where I go for my hair. The styles are well informed, clean, classic, and can also have a bit of flair if desired. When setting the color, the stylists check constantly. The work is thorough and the schedule efficient. There is also no comparable blow out in my experience even at shops that do only that. Finally, patrons are often offered coffee or tea and I have really appreciated and needed that more than a few times. I am very grateful to this establishment that has served me so well throughout much of my young professional career and for special events. Thanks, team! read more

My hair was to have warm golden highlights----I came out a brassie blond! He, the owner was too busy working everyone into his schedule ---- all he is out for now is $$$$$$. After a $ 395 hair cut and highlight, I was so embarrassed ...I told him it was too light and off color....he said oh no just let me dry it out it will be fine. The rest is history. GO somewhere else! By the way the cut was just snipping a few hair ...I had to go home and cut n color before I could be seen in public! read more

Looking forward to hair stylist Kim joining Alanya by April 11th! She's terrific, and I've only heard good things about Alanya.

ALANYA is the only salon I go to because of Cevat. I love how he cuts my hair , colors it and hi lights it . Pricey but I am happy with the results . I travel from Ellicott City to Georgetown just to have Cevat cut my hair . ( I used to live closer to Georgetown, but am willing to make the long drive because I am always happy with the results read more

This place has a terrible reputation for a good reason. The owners are horrible people. I became a regular customer because I liked the work of a particular hairstylist and she and I became friends over time. Yesterday, after my hair was done and I was approaching the front desk to pay, my friend the stylist told me not to pay that it was her gift ( I had casually mentioned it had recently been my birthday). I insisted in paying of course, and as I was handing out my credit card -and to my astonishment -the owner of the place went absolute berserk and started yelling at me "this is not a free world, you don't really expect anybody to work for free, do you?" Of course I responded, that's why I was handing out my credit card. So my friend the stylist and the owner proceeded to have a very angry and agitated discussion in Turkish, which I don't understand. I learned it was her last day on the job and the owner was absolutely irate with her...but I didn't have to bear the brunt! This man was so absolutely disrespectful to me when I told him I didn't like the way he yelled at both his stylist and myself and that I would never come back to this establishment he yelled back "good, don't come back!". This unprofessional attitude needs to be denounced. If you go you are risking a NASTY treatment. This people are really crazy! read more
