I've been to aka Frisco's many times over the last couple years and have never been disappointed. The lengthy list of sandwiches, salads, and exploded potatoes always provides enough options to torture the indecisive (but only in the best way). The serving sizes are more than enough, and if using some self control, you can get two meals out of the sandwiches. As someone who lives over 30 minutes away, I go out of my way to come here when I'm in the mood for a good sandwich. The quality and the consistency are fantastic. Aside from being a great compliment to the nearby Flying Dog Brewery, they also have a good selection of craft beer if that's what you're in the mood for to go with your meal. It's also within walking distance from Fying Dog should you need to stumble over there to get some food in your stomach before heading home. read more

Just finished lunch there. Happy to be able to guy a bottle of wine for our trip, but we're really not sure what the raves are about for sandwiches. We are total sandwich lovers, and at least the French bread was fresh. The Mission was just plain odd, though - brie with diced green and yellow peppers and tomatoes with a bunch of sprouts -- the flavors just didn't go together at all. The Trans-am (husband's) was monstrous, but it didn't have a lot of flavor and the mountain of diced bacon was a mess. Not sure why you'd dice up bacon and sprinkle it on to. Bacon goes everywhere. Husband's reaction after eating 1/2: "Just not that good at all." Wanted to like this place. It's cute and looks like ky's aiming to please -- but the sky-high rating is HIGHLY suspect. read more

We were traveling home from PA and were looking for somewhere to stop that had fresh food. The sandwiches were fresh ! I loved the use of sprouts . This location is a bit out of the way but definitely worth the drive. Next door to Frisco's is a beer & wine store with a great selection of craft brews as well as lox's brews. Only unfortunate thing is you can't buy and drink the brews at the restaurant. Overall, definitely recommend. read more

It's a crying shame that a place that offers food as good as this, sits far from the maddening crowds, amid an industrial estate. Friscos has a charm and indeed quality of food that would do well in a more central location. But as long as it makes money that is what's important. Sandwich was tasty and yes worthy of the greater than average price. It is not your average subway or Jimmy John quality. I had the 'Mission' which was Brie and other veggies. It was downright tasty. Something that I'd definitely go back, I'd even go so far to say I might Jones for this sandwich. However they do have a slight downside. Which is that if your sandwich is to go, it goes into a plastic container. That type you'd expect pasta and such like to go in. This makes the sandwich soggy, if you don't eat it quickly. There is a reason for chains to wrap their sandwiches in paper. Maybe if Friscos followed suit, then it might get five stars from me. Five stars if you eat in. Because you don't have to suffer soggy bread. Maybe if you're a duck, you'd enjoy soggy bread. Me? I think that's quackers. read more

This joint isn't a place we visit regularly but have been about half a dozen times usually with a group of four or more. They have a HUGE assortment of sandwiches and side orders which cater to a great appetite if you can't make up your mind. The food itself is pretty fresh and tastes great but don't order the Maryland Old Bay wings - they're baked and weren't really good or tasty. Never really had issues because we like to support local until a recent experience... They advertise that they are dog-friendly; however, it's only on the outdoor patio and there aren't any signs on their main doors indicating this is the case. We went in with our small dog previously to order and had no issue but the last time we were told the dog couldn't be inside and we had to take him outside immediately. The only problem with this is the INCONSISTENCY in the policy and subsequent enforcement. Solution? Clearly state your policies clearly (written and posted on signs) and enforce them consistently and things should be OK. Nothing takes the wind out of our your sails more than being allowed to do something with no issue then all of a sudden things are different. read more

The sandwiches looked very basic, and my southwest chicken pasta was cold pasta on a bed of lettuce. I was wondering why that pasta was in the salad section. the flavor of the pasta was decent, just not what I was expecting. In response to the owners reply: I think you got us mixed up with another group because our name was not called when our food was ready and we were not talked to the entire time for any of us to say that the food was great. The bread was soggy on the bottom and wasn't even presented on a plate but rather in a carry out container yet they call themselves a restaurant..( nice one ) they have no other options for a side other than a potato salad that people have to explain to you what it actually is unless you want to pay for chips. My 7 year old was confused about his quesadilla because it wasn't even melted and had what looked to be Kraft singles between over headed tortilla shells. Great place for lunch in a location people wouldn't think to look for a meal. Came here cuz of the many positive reviews. Everyone was patient while we read the extensive menu. Many things to try and menu descriptions were tempting. Everything was prepared well and cooked to order. Wife got the exploded potato; I, the chili bowl and a chicken curry salad. Very enjoyable. This is an iconic place in Frederick. It's hidden away in an industrial park, but everyone should know about it...because of its famous EXPLODED POTATOES! The first time I visited this place, it was good. The past couple of times have been disappointing. The customer service is very bland. Maybe it is part of the laid back atmosphere. My husband and I both ordered sandwiches and they were average. They are supposed to call your name when your sandwich is ready. Never happened. I figured out that they were ready and ours when nobody claimed them sitting on counter. The employees were more into joking with each other rather than paying attention to customers. At least that was the vibe I got. Also... it is all guys. I haven't seen one female employee. I gave three stars because I did have one good experience. I will give it another try, but I would recommend some sort of potato...and maybe get it to go. Update: Owner quickly responded and addressed everything in post. Good food and good beer! We enjoyed their patio seating on a beautiful day. This is a place you order at the counter and find a seat to wait. Daughter has the veggie pizza appetizer which was HUGE and we all enjoyed. Hubs has a cold sub which was delicious. I had a veggie sub with brie and sprouts which was perfect with my beer. To me , " AKA Friscos" is at the Top of my list for everyone to Experience a least once. It's a great place for a "Business meetings " or to take your "Friend's" and "Family" out to eat. .There is something good to eat and drink for everyone of " all ages". You have a choice to eat Inside or Outside or oder your food to go. A great experience for everyone for Lunch or Dinner or after Work. Everything is made fresh daily. With Home made Soup , Salad's , Sandwiches and Exploded Potato's to choose from. A variety of sandwiches to choose from with a small soup is another good choice . Or your own combination of Soup , Salad's and a Sandwich. You can't go wrong. To drink , there is a a variety of beverages to choose : from Bottle Water to Soda or juice to "Beer on tap" or " Beer in bottles " or Wine. OK so this place is great. Food is so good. Wolf Wings were amazing. I love a place that can do quality wings without having to fry them. Beers on tap and in cans are great. And the staff is nice and helpful. But a couple things are just a little weird. None of their wings come with a dipping sauce...they dont have blue cheese at all. Which is a personal preference, but even ranch doesn't necessarily come with it. Then my Cobb Salad (which again was great) came with some noodles and broccoli. I guess I am not really complaining about that, but those ingredients are definitely not in the description or on the menu. Just something weird. For me doesnt make a difference but could see it being an issue for someone who has a gluten intolerance or allergies. Or maybe my salad was just made next to someone else salad and those slipped in. I got nothing. Either way looking forward to going back and trying the sandwiches. I wish I had taken a picture of everything...1) to see the broccoli and noodles, and 2) to see the wings-literally perfectly cooked, nice char etc. (I asked for the Wings well done and def think that is the way to go). a.k.a. Friscos is a restaurant/catering company that is situated in a warehouse-like area, offering fresh sandwiches, salads, grilled items, vegetarian options, desserts, and beer & wine. A couple of friends and I came here for a quick bite, and we shared an Alcatraz (sliced sourdough bread with sliced turkey breast, avocado, sprouts, and tomato slices, drizzled with honey mustard - the sandwich itself was of a generous size, and while the ingredients were super fresh, I wasn't really a fan of the honey mustard dressing as it made the sandwich a bit too sweet; however, the sandwiches remind me of one of my favorite sandwich places of all time, the Cheese Shop, down in Williamsburg, and I can't wait to try out the other varieties!) and their famous Exploded Potatoes (a potato salad that has a mashed potato consistency, mixed with a generous amount of scallions and bacon; this had a slight sweetness to it, but I loved the fact that it contained potato skin, the amount of bacon bits, and that it was seasoned well; super addicting!; a small cup size is more than enough for a person, as the place really packs it in!). The place itself has a dive-y type of a feel to it, with small wooden table and chairs, and some patio seating by the side. I'd love to come back and try out the Trans-Am and the Glen Park sandwiches, as well as their grilled wings, the spicy chili, and the pizzas. You can watch the staff make the sandwiches and prepare your food in this open wooden structure, set in the middle of the dining area. I don't know what's better...that AKA Friscos is located near the Flying Dog Brewery (https://www.yelp.com/biz/flying-dog-brewery-frederick) - OR - that Flying Dog Brewery is located near AKA Friscos? I am a big fan of Flying Dog Brewery, so when I heard that there was supposedly a hidden gem of a sandwich place that was serving up mammoth subs at low prices, I definitely had to stop in. I was a bit hesitant, as I turned onto Wedgewood Blvd in search of AKA Friscos. It is a long road of nondescript warehouses, so I was dubious that good sandwiches could be found in such a locale. But after passing Flying Dog Brewery, about 30 seconds later, I came across the building. Tip: be sure to walk into the restaurant and NOT the catering portion of AKA Friscos, although there is plenty of outdoor seating near the catering side of the building. The decor is industrial shabby chic. High vaulted ceilings, lots of exposed duct work, and long tables and booths round out the interior. Walk in, and you immediately see a central area where the sandwich makers are yelling out orders and greeting customers. The menu is HUGE! Don't believe me? It took me almost 15 minutes just to figure out what to try...but when I did, I decided upon the Presidio. I love turkey subs, and I especially like turkey combined with salami or any type of cured Italian meats. The sandwich took about 10 minutes to prepare, and when I picked it up, it was overflowing with meat, lettuce, tomato, spicy pepperoncini, provolone cheese, and creamy Cesar dressing. I made the "mistake" of also ordering one of their exploded potatoes (which they describe as a warm potato salad). The exploded potato was super delicious and filled me up after a few bites. The good news is, after eating one half of the sandwich and the exploded potato, I was stuffed and took the other half of the sub home for lunch the next day. I detract 1 star since I thought the bread was too soft and was very soggy the next day. I'm glad I don't live near this place, otherwise I'd definitely be a 3 times a week regular.
