Loved this local BBQ place while visiting Dallas and waiting on my flight! AJ is very nice and welcoming, along with having some really great food! The BBQ plate (pulled pork and sausage) was delicious and the fried catfish platter was a knockout! Tons of beer on draft too!

AJ himself made my Old Fashioned!

Highly recommend AJ's! We were here on our first stop of a local food and wine tour. AJ has a great selection of bourbons and makes a killer Old Fashioned. He makes some great BBQ, too!

Delicious Texas BBQ and great atmosphere. We were there during Grapevine Christmas so it was extra busy, but our server was super great. She topped off a great meal with quick whit and dry humor that was hilarious. #1 tip: Don't skip the hog skins and okra!

I REALLY wanted to like this place, but it pains me to say I didn't. The environment is great, staff were friendly, but the food....was below my expectations. I ordered a 3 meat plate with a side of beans as well as an extra side of potato salad. The pulled pork was every inch short of flavorful, the sausage was okay, the beef brisket was the best thing on the plate but I still desired more from it. The sides and the BBQ sauce were by far the worst of the meal. I love small business's and I WILL be giving this place a second try to try to change my opinion of it. I hope I can give this place a great review on the second come around.

Large beef rib with fried Okra.

I wanted BBQ before the conference event, my Uber driver suggested AJs, is was just a very short walk, I was not disappointed , the choices were many. I told the very friendly waitress to ( surprise) me. Next thing I know if got a Large rib and fried Okra. I was not disappointed. If you are downtown Grapevine it's a must.

The service was good and the atmosphere was very friendly. They are dog friendly. The food was warm. We got there 30 minutes prior to closing. My first visit. The fries were hot. The ribs looked and tasted more oven baked than grilled over a pit. They were tender. The BBQ beans were slightly salty to me. The BBQ sauce on the table was okay. The prices were good.

Teriyaki Wings - Great seasoning but cold at the bone

The food was below expectations for the price. The bbq is priced similar to a Pecan Lodge, but without the flavor, quality, and freshness. I could have sworn I was being served Lloyds packaged bbq. The fried catfish had a very odd and soggy batter, and premixed cornmeal would have been better. The wings had great seasoning, but I could tell they were frozen as the bone was chilled among with bites near the bone. At $22, for a two meat platter and one side, I honestly felt like I was being ripped off as the main plate was a $10 meal at best because of inflation. The service was excellent, and I have no complaints there. The server was attentive, friendly, and checked on us to refill drinks as necessary. They have good beers, so that's a plus! The decor and mood was fine. There were dollar bills draped on the ceiling, so that was different. The Restaraunt was clean and neat. Overall, it seemed more like a place for friends to gather and have a drink. Nothing wrong with that, but the food was just not appetizing.

I really can't imagine anyone making a bad review for this place. I'm not a huge fan of bbq but my boyfriend is so I told him that maybe we could try it out. I was actually so blown away because I liked EVERYTHING we had. The Cole slaw was literally the best I've ever had and had a nice spice to it. The Catfish is literally the only good place in all of Texas that I've had. I'm a big seafood person so trust me when I say this place is this best place. Since it's family owned the atmosphere is just so comfy and perfect. The service was incredible and I felt like we got are drink and food so quickly. Ribs are not even my favorite but omg these were reallllyyy good!!! If you like catfish, or barbecue. Not to mention a cold beer too

I was puzzled by the mixed reviews, however decided to give it a shot! Inside is small with a (dive) bar like atmosphere. BUT there's outdoor/ patio dining (on Grapevine Main Street) with a water dish for dogs (apparently dog friendly). Clean, with friendly staff. Service was very good! We shared the 4 meat plate ($20) which came with one side (we got baked beans/ loved them). More than enough for two! The sausage was spice, as I like it, the brisket was very moist (didn't need BBQ sauce) however the BBQ sauce was good! The pulled pork was also great! After we were done, AJ (the owner) stopped by to make sure all was well... and it was! He is an Air Force veteran and by the way, gives Vets a discount... additionally, he's a former Grapevine Police Officer. And a great conversationalist! All great reasons to go there!

Always great service and great food. The inside is very small for such a bustling downtown but that makes getting a seat all the better. Nice outdoor setting for spring and fall dining.

For a very casual spot to sit on a patio overlooking Main Street on a nice day while eating ok food and drinking beer, you can't really go wrong. Note that the prices printed on the menu are "cash only" prices. If you pay by credit card you'll be charged more. The owner claims it's a thing now and others are doing the same. I eat out a lot in DFW and so far I've not seen anyone else do that. At a minimum it should be noted on the menu. Or better yet since I'd venture to guess the majority pay with cards, post the credit card prices and offer a nice surprise for those few that still carry cash around.

I've been seeing tons of videos about how great their Chicken Caesar wrap is, so I finally went to check it out. Guess what? They were out of Caeser dressing. That's my luck. I added their roasted jalepeno spread on one side and ancho chili mayo on the other to give it an extra kick. This sandwich lasted 2 meals! It was one of those places you just kept going back to because the food was consistently great and it felt like a true Chicago institution. So when Portillo's finally came to Texas, I was thrilled. Let's start with the star of the show...the Italian Beef with hot peppers. It's incredible. Order it dipped and you will be in food heaven. And if you really want the ultimate Chicago move, make it a combo by adding the Maxwell Street sausage. That combination is absolute perfection. Messy, bold, and ridiculously good. Of course, the Chicago-style hot dogs are outstanding too. Just make sure you order it the right way and "drag it through the garden." That means the full lineup of toppings, just like they do in Chicago. It's the real deal. The sides are fantastic as well. The crinkle-cut fries are always solid, and the onion rings are super crispy and addictive. If you're trying to behave a little, the chopped salad is my wife's favorite. It's fresh, loaded with flavor, and honestly one of the best salads you'll get anywhere. And here's the surprise for people who haven't tried it...the hamburger is fantastic. Big, meaty, juicy, and full of flavor. I'll say it plainly. It's better than just about any fast-food or fast-casual burger out there. Bottom line...Portillo's isn't just another restaurant.
