My friend and I stopped by this charming shop while walking down downtown grapevine. We were quickly greeted by Twila and she shared information about their menu. There were plenty of yummy treats to choose from. The prices are affordable and they had a sample pie available. I ordered a slice of the apple crumble pie and a peanut butter cookie. The apple crumble pie was tangy and delicious. The peanut butter cookie was dense and flavorful. I look forward to returning when I'm in the area. They also have the option to write a note of encouragement or inspiration to someone suffering from mental illness. I thought that was a sweet gesture and liked participating in that. If you know me, you know i love a good slice of key lime or lemon meringue pie... however this most recent time i went, i ended up getting a chocolate style cream pie. I normally don't like chocolate, but this pie was really amazing. Luckily when we went, it was about 30 mins before closing so we didn't need to wait... the store still had majority of pies for sale. My wife and I went to JudyPie on a whim. Little did we know that it was ranked the #5 place in the US for pie! Let me tell you - I get it. Our pies were easily the best we've ever had (that is of course unless you've had my wife's & mother in laws pies - I'm not allowed to say that anything is better than theirs.......) ANYWAY - We went around lunch time and the store had a large amount of pies to choose from and as a bonus, they had like 6 to 8 of them that you could try as samples. So I of course had to try them all - and ended up going with the pecan pie and my wife had a chocolaty pie (can't remember the name). They were both excellent, and you could also have chosen to have a scoop of ice cream on top too. On the way to DFW from Fort Worth and wanted to stop by the small town of Grapevine to walk around their historical downtown. Found this "mom and pop" pie shop and it's #5 best in the US! The seating is a bit of a squeeze, but it's a cozy atmosphere and it is dog friendly! They had samples of strawberry rhubarb, apple, and pecan pie available so of course we had to try all of them. The pecan pie is delightful, and very heartwarming with the Texas pie crust with a little heart cut out in the DFW location. We settled on a slice of key lime pie and pecan pie. I cannot rave enough about how amazing the key lime pie tasted - it was without a doubt the best I've had in my entire life. The flavor was unapologetically tart and perfectly balanced with sweetness, and the crust also not overly sweet, all paired with a few tasty dollops of whipped cream on top. The consistency of the pie was just right, and all in all perfectly captured the ultimate essence of what a key lime pie should be. The pecan pie was also so lovely and rich and something I would definitely return to have again. There are other cookies and pastries available, including gluten free options. Few cherries and lots of cherry goo reminding me of a hostess hand pie. Picture is deceiving because the cherries in picture are all floating on top under crust and flow down after cut. Same goes with the pecan pie. At $17.xx each for a smallish pie made this a onetime trip to Judy's Pies. Truthfully a frozen cherry pie from Brauns is much better. Unfortunately I had a terrible experience at JudyPie. I came to JudyPie for their sugar-free (keto) pies. The menu shows three keto pies: pecan, pumpkin, and dark chocolate silk. The pumpkin keto pie was unavailable and they haven't had it for a while; probably seasonal but that isn't mentioned anywhere. I ordered both the chocolate silk and the pecan keto pies. The chocolate pie was terrible with a texture of sand. The pecan pie was also bad, and cloyingly sweet from the sweeteners. JudyPie advertises fresh pies, but the keto pies were not fresh, they were frozen, so that's false advertising. There was no note anywhere that some of their pies are not fresh. Something else I noticed is that the air-conditioning at Judy's appeared to be either broken or turned off. All the fans were on inside the restaurant and the air inside was moist and warm. It was a warm day out. Because it was so warm inside the restaurant, we decided to get our pies to go and eat them in the car. Unfortunately, JudyPie was out of plastic forks, so we had to wait to eat our pies until we got home. I really wanted to enjoy this cute bakery, but I couldn't. It's better to just not sell sugar-free pies than to sell something inedible. read more
