We really like the sauces and the bowls here. The bowls are pricier than other poke bowl places. The scoops of fish are very very small. They need to at least double those scoops to be comparable, especially for the price. They also charge an additional $1 for yellowtail. Def not worth it for the small scoop of fish. I would really love to write a nice review, but I would be doing a disservice to the many Yelpers who may stumble upon this location. I will be breaking down this review in two parts: SERVICE and FOOD SERVICE: I have ordered here three times, and each time has just been an unpleasant experience. The problem is with one person, the manager, KIREN. My first experience with her was due to her rude tone and demeanor. She rushed our order and did not want to give us our 5 topping choices, despite it being written on the menu. Once we pointed it out, she explained that, "today is different." My first reaction was to laugh, thinking she was just being witty. However, she was serious. We explained that she needed to honor the menu or we needed to contact the owner. Reluctantly, she did. The second experience we had was due to unsanitary handling of our order. During this time, the restaurant became busy. KIREN worked both the register and the raw foods; we didn't mind, and were willing to wait however long she needed. However, after witnessing her handling dollars and coins, she immediately started wrapping another customers burrito WITHOUT washing her hand. We all immediately stopped her and argued that what she was doing was inappropriate and that she needed to wash her hands. The obscenity was witnessed by 8-10 customers and she arrogantly argued back to all of us saying, "we do this all the time." We then explained that we will contact the health department and needed her name: she quickly apologized, went to wash her hands, then put on a fake smile and said she will remake it. This was truly inexcusable. The last experience occurred today. We went in and she was working in the back kitchen. At this point, we were all dreading the idea of pumping into her but thankfully she was not at the front. As the lovely ladies were assisting us and another customer, KIREB started to yell at them from the back (kitchen). This was very unprofessional and just demeaning. We noticed that the workers started to frown and were unhappy, yet still pleasant enough to help us. We continued to notice how rude KIREN continued to ignore the workers who asked for help. I really don't understand. FOOD: The food is great! Especially the burrito. I give this location 2 stars because of the manager, KIREN. It would behoove this establishment to really consider providing more training to KIREN, or even better hire a new manager. It is very clear that the workers there are in an uncomfortable and hazardous environment. KIREN, you are in need of major managerial training. You need to understand that it is not appropriate, polite nor becoming of a person to speak and act as you do. In no way form am I saying you're a bad person; you're just incapable of working in a position that requires the appropriate customer services skills. What's more, you may need to realize that your coworkers are not your slaves. They're your contemporaries. You may want to adapt a more approachable and humble way of working as a team. With that being said, KIREN, you're the reason why this store is getting 2 stars. The food and other staff members are terrific. To the other staff members: thank you for all your help, patients and smiles. I apologize for your manager's behavior and I hope this review will catalyze a change in environment for you. When I walked in, the owner greeted me and explained about the 50% special for the bowls if you purchase any drink! The regular is 2 scoops for $9.50 and Large is 3 scoops for $11.50 Each scoop spoon looks small and appears to measure out at about 2 ounces? So 1 scoop would be like 2 ounces of fish? I use similar spoons at my workplace lol I ordered a large bowl with only white rice so the employee put it in a round container. If you choose salad or half&half, your food will be placed in a larger, plastic square container. My friend ordered half&half, so for a moment I was confused on why her food looks like it was more than mine when we both ordered a large lol. Avocado is $1 extra, but they give you a good portion of it! For the other toppings, you can order as much as you'd like! But the fish is what they charge extra for. I noticed that when the owner was inputting my total, he was doing it by eye. Maybe they should have a system where the employee checkmarks each box option that the customer orders onto a food custom slip of paper, so that there aren't any mistakes. I've seen this at other poke places, like Poke Bar. So my total came up to be a little over $11 since I ordered a large bowl with avocado ($1 extra), and one guava drink ($3.50). So half of $11.50 is $5.75 Plus the price of avocado = $6.75 Plus the price of my guava drink = $10.25 and plus tax, so final total around $11, which makes sense. If I were to pay for everything at regular price, which is $16+tax for my bowl and guava drink, Ahi Poke would be a bit too pricey. Overall, I had a great experience here. read more

The only reason this place is getting 3 stars is that they never get things right for the delivery orders. It's always something. Manager supposedly said she refunded me for the extra bowl. But it clearly said on the receipt cash tendered for refund. I showed it to her and she said no it will go to your debit card. We ordered for takeout via Yelp yesterday. The food was decent enough, however, we were missing so many things from our order that it ruined the meal. They mostly only included the main things like the rice, salad, and fish we ordered. The other toppings were a mess. I was missing 2/5 toppings and my husband was missing 3/5 toppings! His was just fish with rice and some salad. It was so sad looking and tasting due to the missing ingredients. We tried calling a few times to see how this could be fixed but no one is tending to the phones. If the fish was flavorful enough to make up for the missing toppings then I think we would've been ok. read more

Its forgettable there is nothing special about this place besides that it is the only half decent place to get poke around. Which is very sad for the LB area. Walking in feels like I'm back in Hawaii.. or maybe because they were playing Jboog's songs. Very nice setup and cool artwork inside. Now let's get to the food. I love poke as much as the next person, this place was very good but portions are very small and kinda expensive. I do like their choices in sauce and seafood that they have but for $11 for a large plate with small portions ... I can go to the poke bar and get my money's worth. Overall I do like the food and the fact that there are many selections and choice in not only seafood but with sauces and toppings. I am kinda sad that they don't have pineapple as a topping but I will learn to live. Service wise: The staff members are very nice and always smiling. Delicious poké! We've tried the other poke spots in Long Beach, but this one tops them for sure. The two employees were very welcoming when we walked in. The tuna luau is already pre-seasoned with sauce, avocado, and red onions. Then they had a variety of other fish to choose from. I got the large poke bowl and the boyfriend got the pokirrito. The pokirrito wrapped in seaweed, choice of fish, and limited to five of their toppings. The bf liked it, but thought it could've had a bit more. The large bowl was filled with goodness. It comes with three scoops of fish, and your choice of whatever toppings - NO LIMIT for bowls. That was a definite plus for me. I got the tuna luau with some creamy spicy sauce. It added an extra kick and was delicious. For my toppings I got crab, seaweed salad, edamame, green onions, masago, sprouts, and furukake. They did not hold back on the toppings, which I liked. A lot of other places are pretty skimpy on adding sides. This place doesn't short you! Will definitely come back! And the two female employees were fun and very friendly! read more

Great poke spot. Fairly empty on a weeknight when I went there. The most important thing of any poke place is good fish for a base and it passed that test. The toppings were good; I like adding sprouts which you don't see at many poke spots. The avocado is $1 extra, but that's not unusual. Large bowl was good sized, but I wouldn't go smaller. The medium spicy wasn't very spicy, but it was good. If you want any spice go spicy and not medium. I'll be back when in this neighborhood. read more

I'm so happy I found a great poke place near my office! Super yummy, very fresh flavorful poke and SO many sauce/topping options. I'm newish to poke but know I love it and this place is great because it's chipotle style where you add things to creat your own bowl, you can try all the sauces before and add as many toppings as you want! The girl behind the counter was very helpful with her suggestions and genuinely friendly. I got the large with 3 scoops including poke luau, spicy tuna & salmon with half brown rice and half salad with spicy soy and mayo sauces. I added all the toppings (which are free besides avocado) so I could try them all. Everything tasted so wonderful and looked so beautiful in its little plastic container! Honestly haven't had the time to review this location until tonight , this is usually my wife's as well as my favorite Ahi Poke to visit , the staff however on 3/2/19 @7:30pm made it seems as if making fresh ingredients was to hard a task to do , now usually I won't complain cause I love the spot but the sudden shift in energy was obvious one staff member spent her time talking with another employee / peer from Hiccups while the other served us , however they happen to be out of kimchi shrimp, and the Blazin' Salmon , also they were out of Miso Soup too , it seemed to be to hard to ask of the staff to make these items for us being that we came in at 7:30 and they didn't close till 9 I'd think they'd have something back up on tap , but no instead we were pushed along , and I didn't get my soup either which was why i was in that night for the soup since it had been raining and I had a cold , but as soon as we were done paying , replenishing what they were "out of" seemed to be a priority so they couldn't do it while we were ordering ???!! But they can do it after ???!! Decided to check this place out yesterday. Even with the more recent reviews being not-so-up-to-par I thought why not, you can't really mess up raw fish. The poke I had (spicy tuna and salmon) was really tasty, and the reason I am not giving 5 stars was because of the portion size. Just like the reviews said, portions are not their strong point and I get it, ahi isn't cheap nor is it cheap to run a business but when a local competitor is selling the same product for about the same price and their portions are much larger, I'm going to visit the competitor. The service was great, everyone greeted me as I walked in the door, the young man serving me had a smile the whole time and so did the person that rang me up. If I'm in the area I'd be back but I won't go out of my way to come here and that's based solely on their portion size. read more

I came here two days ago around 12 pm and ordered a regular plate half and half with blazing salmon! It was REALLY good. I remember when they FIRST OPENED.. their scoops were the size of a teaspoon but I can see they have bigger scoops now which is GREAT. I didn't come here after seeing those scoops but having decided to give it another chance & I'm glad! Also, they only put like one pump of sauce which is too little in my opinion but I asked for more and they were generous about it. The customer service was okay.. the lady in front of me didn't want any sauce for her poke and the girl worker made this sneering pissed off face which kind of turned me off. Wow this place was incredible. Super fresh Poke, and very friendly staff. It's set up very similar to a Chipotle, where you go down the line to select your main ingredients and toppings.
