Our server came over and took our our drink order and then came back for a food order. I just had a simple bean cheese and rice burrito my husband wanted cheese enchilada beef, taco, rice, and beans, but ended up with beef, enchilada, beef, taco, rice, and beans. But it was all fine. This restaurant is nestled in a large shopping center in Ormond. On a holiday Monday, there was only one other table occupied so we were seated immediately. Chips and salsa were also served by the time I returned from the restroom. This restaurant definitely has speedy service! After looking over the menu I chose the fajita salad as it was on a lunch special. The salad was alright. I didn't taste the onions or bell peppers that made it different from the taco salad. The chicken had a lot of flavor. I had a water, but wanted horchata which they did not have at the time. Our server, was amazing! Very attentive and friendly. The chips and salsa were also delicious. While eating the music was frequently cutting out and changing from more traditional Mexican music to rap and back and forth. Overall, I am not sure I will return as Ormond has serval better Mexican options nearby. read more

This is the best Mexican food I've had in a long time! Fajitas were sizzling hot, tasty and the steak was tender. Served up with rice, beans, guacamole, lettuce and sour cream it was enough for two meals. My friend had the fajita chimichanga and said it was delicious. I can't understand why they closed their Port Orange location - but it's worth the ride up to Ormand! My friend ordered the churros for dessert - and it was like a churro "fort" with chocolate sauce and whipped cream - sorry I didn't snap a picture. First of all, my husband and I were born and raised in Southern California and spent decades traveling south on the border when it was safe and wonderful, so we're quite the connoisseurs of Mexican food. When one walks into this restaurant Agave brings back so many memories. The atmosphere, the service and the food are all exceptional. The salsa is the best I've ever tasted, rich, and so very flavorful. And the margaritas are also excellent. I ordered the Durango enchiladas and my husband Huevo Ranchos. The order looked like it had been packaged upside down. That could be blamed on DoorDash poor handling. But the fact that the order was not filled correctly can not be attributed to DoorDash. We have been to Agave many times, and we always enjoy it. The outdoor seating is nice when the weather cooperates, and the staff is friendly. At this visit we had the Mexican Pizza and Chicken Flautas. I would probably have rated a 3.5, but it's definitely not a 3 and 1/2 stars aren't an option....so 4 it is! Love that the Flautas were nice and crispy, and plenty to share! The chicken was pretty dry and not a lot of flavor, but we dipped it in the queso blanco and put some Cholula hot sauce on it, and that gave it good flavor! The Mexican pizza was a wee bit soggy, but I think mainly because there's so much good stuff on it that the tortilla base wasn't strong enough enough to crisp up. We will order it again for sure! Wash that down with a tasty beverage, and you've got a lovely meal! read more

What a disappointment... we had been out all day and were starving and thirsty from the heat. Several friends had commented that the food was good as well as the margaritas so we thought we'd try out a new place... we were seated right away and promptly forgotten. Finally they came by with chips and salsa but didn't offer any drinks or even water. Then when the waiter did show up, he asked what we wanted to drink. Since there were no drinks listed in the menu we asked what was available... as he started to go into a long verbal list, we asked if there was a drinks menu. Cue waiter taking off in a huff, returning and literally dropping two drinks menus on the table and stomping off again. Hubby and I just looked at each other. So we looked at the drinks menu... one thing I should mention, hubby is not a fan of no prices on drinks, so when the waiter finally returned and we asked for some water to start, he turned on his heel and disappeared... never to be seen again... which we also did after sitting waiting for water for another 10 minutes... Wow! This place is amazing! Thanks to the reviews of other Yelpers...we found Agave Fresh Mex and Cantina, when we were searching for Mexican food during SpeedWeeks. Agave was a little out of our way, but it was worth the drive and worth the wait once we arrived. We enjoyed the chips and salsa while we waited for our meals to arrive, and a jumbo margarita, too. We had fantastic service, our server recommended their most popular burrito (which I can't remember the name), that was covered in cheese sauce, and topped with grilled shrimp and green salsa. Very good Mexican food. The place is huge, with plenty of booths and tables, decorated in what I now consider to be standard "Hey, you're in a Mexican restaurant!" decor. Our first visit the waiter was excellent, however, this last visit our waiter always seemed to be behind, and could never catch up. Both visits, however, the food has been delicious. The first time I had a taco salad, and this latest visit I had chicken fajitas. The order had a ton of chicken, which was awesome, although they could have been more generous with the half a teaspoon of guacamole they provided. My Mom's enchiladas came out not hot enough, and they were quick to take it back and re-make her a new plate. Margaritas are not cheap, but very delicious. If you don't mind bar tequila, house margaritas are 2 for 1 for happy hour. Your better bet is to get the 2 for 1 sangria at happy hour. Large dinner portions combined with non-stop fresh chips and salsa, means you'll leave fat and happy. read more

My girlfriend and I celebrated my birthday at this Mexican Restaurant. We were greeted and seated right away and given our menus. First thing on my agenda was a margarita. Let me just say they do not skimp on the liquor. Oh my goodness. It was large, fresh and potent. Delicious!!! There was also a Buy 1 Get 1 Free deal. That was right up my alley. We ordered food. For the most part everything was good and plentiful. I had the seafood dip but didn't like it because it just didn't have the taste I thought it would have for seafood dip. Great food! but a little disappointed on this visit my tip rounded up $.04 to achieve an even dollar amount. I purposely do this to better track spending and when the services exceeds my expectations the server gets a little extra change. My last visit the bill was processed correctly so it may be a server simply altering charges to avoid a pocket full of change. The food and margaritas are always great so as long as these standards are maintained we will continue to patronize this restaurant, just with careful observance of credit card postings. read more

My wife and I used to love this restaurant, pre-Covid times. Recently, I ordered two taco salads to-go. We were so disappointed when we opened our boxes at home. The meal was so small. Hardly anything to eat. We went today to treat ourselves to a sit down meal. First, only two of the staff were wearing masks. We should have left at that point. Our food was horrible. No taste, very bland and sloppy. And then I had these weird chunks in my tacos. I thought someone lost a toe or something. I am sad, we loved this place, but it has gone downhill fast. Came here Tuesday October 20, 2020 about 7:30pm. Lemme start by saying that I love Mexican food and coming from California I enjoy it a lot. This place had a lot of tables with people at them but they all looked done and literally like 2 servers and a bar tender. There were bus boys, food runners, but literally no one to actually do more at your table besides take you first order. They provide chips and salsa when you sit but there was about 2 tablespoons of salsa and a basket of chips. I had to keep getting up and going to the hostess stand, where no one was, or the bar tender to get a drink menu, then order a drink, then ask for salsa, then ask for the check. When our food came I asked the food runner for lettuce that comes with my fajitas. Our server only came once when our food arrived and I asked him to please get what I asked the runner for because she never brought it or told him. The food was super salty that I was sick after dinner and a bloated belly. I couldn't even finish my food it was so awful. My husband got a fajita salad and it was a fried tortilla shell with salty chicken, a few pieces of sautéed onions and red bell Peppers, maybe some cheese, and a Dollop of sour cream. There was such little lettuce at the bottom that it was sloppy limp from the liquid grease of the onions and chicken. Just an awful dinner experience. PROS: - outdoor seating - indoor seating - bar area - chips and salsa was fine CONS: - very poor quality of food - steak is rubbery, too salty - chicken so salty couldn't eat it - worst restaurant service ever - when you ask for something they won't tell your server, order it for you, or anything - server came to our table only once - Under staffed with servers to tables ratio which resulted is crappy service - No Tuesday special for tacos or margaritas. Margaritas were $10.99 and house made with sour mix. What rubbish! * I will never return here and do not recommend anyone to visit. read more

OMG IT'S SO GOOD! Fresh made tortillas and sauces/salsas, THE BEST MOLE NORTH OF THE BORDER, everything is so delicious! My only regret is only having one stomach! Tacos, burritos, fajitas and then more traditional and street foods - a foodie's heaven!!! It would take months to try everything so there's your challenge! Wanted to get a quick bite to eat and these guys have a bunch of good compliments. Being new to the area, i don't know the really good places yet. Not a bunch of really good Mexican restaurants around but This one is close. First off, i got there at 3 p.m.. Not many people there. I was looking at the menu which was pretty big. I finally asked if they had combos. They pointed me to the right page. I also liked at the lunch specials. Good from 11-3. I finally found what i wanted. 2 tacos and an enchilada and on the lunch menu. I asked for the special. No joy. They said it's after 3. I asked if they had that in a combo. Yes they do. Keep in mind, special=$8 +/-. I got 3 tacos and 2 enchiladas. $26+ . What has happened to Mexican food and prices? Ok. I hate when people place comments about everything but the food. How was the food? Yes, the food was pretty good. I would recommend it. Tastey and plenty, but pricey. I will try them again and hopefully i can give them 5 stars later. Pleasantly surprised by this place. I was driving up I-95 in the crazy traffic (7 hours from Orlando to Jax) and stopped to feed the kids in Ormond. Of course I hopped on Yelp to see what was good and this came up. Extra conveniently, there was a pizza place that sold slices next door for the one child that does not eat mexican. So we, as a party of 7, were able to be seated right away at 2:00 on a Saturday afternoon. They have several large tables set up all the time it seems. The server was nice, it was somewhat busy, meaning a little more than 1/2 the tables in the place were full. Good for a saturday afternoon for sure. As others have mentioned, they bring salsa and some ranch dressing type sauce, that was quite good and popular with the kids too. It reminded me of that creamy salad dressing that Chi-Chi's used the have way back when that I would always get to dip chips in. I loved that stuff. Shame they are no longer in Florida. In any case, we ordered drinks, the server came immediately to take that order, than maybe 5 minutes later reappeared with the sodas. He got 6 of 7 correct. Pretty good. As an aside, after we ordered he brought round 2 of sodas, this time correct, without anyone asking, and we were plenty full for sodas from then on. We ordered standard dinners, no special requests. The food took a while, maybe 20 minutes or so. Not too bad. Again, he got 6 or 7 right. One child ordered a cheese quesadilla, they brought chicken. She didn't bother to correct him she was full of chips so that went home and the kids ate it later. It did take him a few minutes to bring the check after we finished but with all the kids it was probably hard to determine if we were done. The platter I ordered to share with my 16 Y.O. son was plenty for us both and then some. It was quite good, although medium rare in mexican = medium well in american I think. It was flavorful and nicely presented. All in all the food was good, the atmosphere was nice, plenty of TVs with football for the teenaged boys and pretty good service. They clearly took pains to make the inside nice. It was comfortable and cozy. The prices were somewhat higher than other comparable places, specifically a few of the dishes I typically get were priced at $16-$17 and they would be $12-$13 at the other places I frequent. read more

Very good Mexican meals. Started off with a negra modelo on tap. That's a plus. Great selection from the appetizers to regular meals. I got the 2 items combo with soft shelled taco and chicken enchilada. The taco was stuffed. Rice and beans come with Both were very good. One thing they do is make the guacamole right at your table. Don't order: *Seafood fajitas-unless you would like to work to peel your own crab legs, open your mussels, etc. It looks good on paper, but once you start eating crab you want more. Shrimp is all I will ever order in the future or fish, if it's fresh, not frozen. They also put crawfish in there, and that's what really sent me over the edge. If you've had good ones then you know what disgusting frozen ones from china taste like. Crawfish isn't something they should offer at a Mexican establishment. Weird?!? I usually love things that are unusual, but this wasn't that great either. *Siete mares-seven seas, it was a soup that I was looking forward to. Not surprised it was soup because the server forewarned me. She did a good job, considering the food was super slow wait. Back to the soup...it had crab legs in it too-that needed to be removed from the thick red soup broth to be opened ( Imagine the mess). They gave no bowl to put our shell trash. Broth was a bit over seasoned and tasted a bit burned. The size of the carrots and potatoes were way to big, needed to be diced, not in two inch thick chunks. My advice: work on your broth and just stick to shrimp, fish and clams. Please clean the clams too!!! No one likes eating sand. Also, crawfish was in the soup too...more weirdness! *Chimichanga with shredded beef. The beef was stringy, and had that just been boiled taste. Don't coat the chimichanga with white cheese! Offer on the side. Will return, but not for a while. $71 with tip for 3 people. I wish I would've gone anywhere but here last night. On busy Saturday nights please have your best chefs on duty. I ordered several items using door dash and I was suprised at how many bags the driver left me. I ordred Tacos De Asado and Tacos Al Pastor, what I didn't know was that they both came with rice and beans, we also ordered the Asada Poblana, They steak had good flavor but the soft shell stuffed with a pepper didn't hold up well. The tacos were Mexican style and tasty. We also had Churros, that were nice with 2 sauces and vanilla ice cream. read more

We were really impressed with the reviews so decided to pull off the 95 to try it... but, it turned out to be very disappointing. We went on Memorial Day around 2 o'clock. Shouldn't be a problem since it wasn't busy, I do realize that is usually during shift change. But, it was bad. Staff was unfriendly, the food and drinks took a long time and the food was mostly mediocre with high prices. Three entrées, table guac and three margaritas over $100! Just not worth it. Found this place while heading south on 95 and wanting some Mexican. Just off the interstate and easy to find in a shopping center. The portions were huge. The whole family of 4 ate for $58 (no alcohol) which is a little high for Mexican but none of us finished off our plates. My wife got the shrimp tacos and there were 4 tacos.
