Once upon a time, I was craving some Borani Bajan and Afghan Mantu, so I ordered some and a Tikka Kebab from this restaurant. It is just north of the Burger King, at the south end of a strip mall next to a dollar store and tax preparation service. When I went to pickup, I parked and went inside to retrieve the order. The interior is pretty barebones, with a music video playing on the TV and kids fiddling with a tablet. After bringing the food home, I was pretty delighted. The eggplant in the Borani Bajan had soaked in quite a bit of flavor from the tomato and spices, and the yogurt was a nice touch. The Afghan Mantu were also quite savory, and tossed with yellow lentils and more yogurt. The rice had cumin seeds incorporated within. The kebab was wraps and rolled in bread and encompassed in foil. It was nicely smoky and quite salty. Actually everything ordered was quite good, but everything was also surprisingly salty, especially the kebab. But I liked it. I just think that salt level could have been toned down a bit.

A gem in austin! I've never had Afghan food so not much to compare but everything we got was really good, and the naan bread was a perfect addition! We got the chicken and rice, Shami kebab, and gulab jaman, I'd recommend all of them! 5/5 food 5/5 service 5/5 vibes

Ordered the chicken and beef kebabs. The chicken was juicy and flavorful--could've used a bit more spice, but still tasty. The beef kebab was the real star: tender, well-seasoned, and grilled just right. Instead of rice, it came with warm Afghan bread that was soft, slightly chewy, and perfect for scooping up bites of meat. The sides were simple but did the job. It was my first time having Mantu it was quite delicious. Don't expect ambiance--this is a bare-bones spot focused on the food. Service was chill and efficient. If you're craving solid Afghan kebabs without the fuss, this place is worth a visit. Took around 20 minutes to get food.

Austin has long been overdue for a sit-down Afghan restaurant. For years, we've had to make pilgrimages to San Antonio for our Kabuli Palaus and Mantus. Finally, we have a proper Afghan restaurant right here in the city. I had an amazing meal here the other day. This location seems to change frequently--it started as Afghan Village, which was sold, and now it's Afghan Cuisine. This was my first time dining here, as I didn't get a chance to visit under the previous ownership. We ordered the Afghan Mantus, Tikka Kebab, Kabuli Palau, and Lamb Karahi. They also served us a side of lentils and plenty of Tandoori Naan, which I believe comes with several of the dishes. The Tikka Kebabs were an absolute hit, and the Lamb Karahi, with its spicy, flavorful gravy, was my personal favorite. The Tandoori Naan was just the best. While I've had better Mantus and Daal at other places, and the Kabuli Palau was a bit on the dry side, everything was still quite delicious, and we left very satisfied. Our party was 5 people and all that food above was just about the right amount for all of us averaging around $20 per person. There are some things to improve though. The service was somewhat slow. The communication could be clearer. Toward the end of our meal, one of the servers mentioned something we couldn't quite understand. We later realized she was offering complimentary Afghan tea, but it wasn't clear at the time, so we turned it down. Also, when we asked for water, they served bottled water for a charge instead of complimentary tap water in glasses, which was a bit unexpected. Overall, these were minor issues, and the meal was fantastic. I'll definitely be back!

ISO an Afghan food place , we came across this one! This seemed a very popular mom n pop restaurant (the crowd - mostly families and kids - that came in after 8pm says so ) Ambiance is good, and lots of seating. Service is on point - Tamana (I think that was her name) was our server and also handled the counter. She attended to us very patiently and even made some suggestions about the different combinations of the menu items . Food took some time to arrive even though we were the only folks at the beginning. It was compensated by the warm (free of cost) Afghan green tea, and of course the really delicious food. The kebab was great and rice was good! Liked the side lentils and salad - portion sizes are decent . The only feedback is that the karahi dish was very oily . "Overall, it was a very good experience with some warm, homely-tasting food!"

I love exploring the cuisine of different countries, so I was very excited to see that there was an Afghan restaurant in Austin! The restaurant was clean and there is plenty of seating. I went with my friend and we ordered the lamb karahi and the mantu. The lamb karahi ($21) was fragrant, well-spiced, and absolutely delicious. The mantu ($17) was also very good. These two dishes were enough to fill me and my friend up! There are a lot more items on the menu that I am looking forward to trying!

Delicious food but really hole in the world. I think skewers are what is worth going for if you really like meat and skewers. Definitely a different type of cuisine than I am used to so I can't judge fully. The bread was pretty good.

I grew up in Fremont which is nationally known for its Little Kabul so whenever I see an afghan place it's going to be on y must try list. The food here is yummy and I found myself looking for a late night meal after watching a show downtown and was glad this place was available on the third party delivery apps. I ordered the Pulao which is an afghan national dish. It's a very fragrant rice dish with carrots and raisins. The raisins and carrots you might think would make the dish oddly sweet but it wasn't. It also comes with a lamb shank which was tender. There's a lentil side that comes with the meal as well. You also get this huge piece of flatbread and some raw vegetables to cut the carbs.

Love the food, seems authentic and it was very fresh, no oils or grease. The portion sizes are pretty large too. I really liked the way they cooked the rice haha, it was cooked correctly. The dishes were flavorful and I would definitely go back. Service is friendly and it seems family run.

We did have to wait quite a while for our dishes to come out, despite being the only table eating in. But it wasn't a big deal, and the food was pretty worth it! We got the chicken and rice, which was super flavorful! Neither the chicken or rice was dry and it comes out to a really decent meal. We also got the Afghan mantu, which was my personal favorite. The dumpling wrappers were so thin that it made for a very tender dumpling. And I loved the white sauce! The soup was also really yummy! If ordered, they bring you a bowl and you basically serve yourself. But it's piping hot and super hearty.

I've been here three times and each time I've thoroughly enjoyed my food. I've tried the chicken kebab, chicken & rice, and the tikka kebab. I also had the Afghan green tea, chicken & veg soup, and mango kulfi. The tandoori naan comes with each meal and is cooked to warm, fluffy, perfection. This is the only Afghan place I've tried so I'm not sure how authentic it is but I can say it is delicious! The red and green sauces paired really well with the naan and the entrees. I'll definitely be back.

Afghan Village Restaursnt newly opened in July 2023, is the single restaurant in Austin, TX serving Afghan food. My first time trying this cuisine and it won't be my last. I would fully support trying all these dishes if you visit!

They also serve flatbreads where you can have two different toppings. The food focus is on bold, traditional flavors rather than modern takes on middle eastern foods. On the desserts front, they have an assortment of desserts and several sections of ice cream. I had the baklava, which was surprisingly delicious...it was not eye-squinting sweet like a standard baklava. It was crunchy, flavorful, and had nuts that were substantial. Layla, my server, was so super sweet and welcoming. She pointed out that Usta provides its customers free tea. How cool is that? I cannot remember last time I received a free drink.

Parking is plentiful right in front of the restaurant. We came by on a Saturday around 1 PM, worried it might be packed, but it was actually pretty quiet. You can sit anywhere you like, grab a plate, and pay when you're done. The space is large and open, with three full rows of food and drinks plus a dedicated station for fruit and desserts. Everything was fresh, not overly salty, and there were plenty of options. My favorites were the hummus with eggplant (so flavorful with great texture), the salad and cucumber salad (fresh and refreshing), the dolma (perfectly done), gyro (tender and tasty), baked cauliflower (so good), fried chicken (juicy, crispy, and not salty), falafel (extra crunchy), and the lentil soup (simple but delicious). And don't miss their coffee at the checkout--it has a hint of warm spice and is the perfect finish after a meal. Surprisingly, I ended up loving the vegetable dishes even more than the meats. Overall, yes, $26 per person is on the higher side (what doesn't cost these days, right?!), but it's a great spot to try a variety of Mediterranean dishes that are fresh, simply seasoned, and let the ingredients shine--perfect whether you're new to the cuisine or just want a bit of everything.

Cute of us, honestly. We pulled up and that parking lot looked like Beyoncé was performing. Cars everywhere: on the grass, on the curbs, people creating their own imaginary parking spaces. People circling like it was Black Friday. Absolutely not. We left with no backup plan and even less hope. Pulled up Yelp and I remembered that Dimassi's buffet had been on my radar for months, but was it open? Called them up and CHA-CHING!!! Money! They were open, guys. That phone call felt like hitting the lottery. Thanksgiving was saved. We arrived and Dimassi's was calm, clean, and the buffet bar was fully stocked with hot food fresh out of the kitchen. They had your Mediterranean favorites: dips, salads, gyro meat, dolma, chicken kabobs, saffron rice, the good garlicky toum, warm potatoes, fresh pita, everything. They even prepared a turkey for patrons who wanted some. Wow. They understood the assignment. Now a couple things could be tweaked. I like my baba ganoush served warm...and maybe they could have had some lamb options? But, honestly? For a buffet on Thanksgiving at $23 a person ($9 for the 3 yr old with us), they delivered HARD. Dimassi's didn't just feed us...they rescued us from the Golden Corral Hunger Games. Thank you for being open. Thank you for coming through in the clutch. You saved Thanksgiving.

There's real personality here. We were pumped for the food, ordering a pretty epic spread. Great: Gyro. Clearly roasted and carved properly on a spit versus the pre-sliced garbage that often graces lesser Greek and Middle-Eastern establishments. Falafel was exceptionally crispy on the outside and moist inside, accompanied by a lovingly crafted hummus. Meh: literally everything else we had was pretty boring or bad. The rice was clumpy, a clear sign that the rice had been cooled and reheated. That's pretty unforgivable (the only time that's permissible and proper is for fried rice or rice desserts like rice pudding). The chicken was overcooked and bland -- no salt at all. Kofta, which I always look forward to was undercooked and slimy inside. No thank you.
