Stumbled across this hidden gem in North Austin and absolutely love it. I've always said Austin doesn't have enough "Mom and Pop ethnic places," so finding Troy was a dream come true. The staff was so warm and welcoming the entire time. From giving recommendations, to offering Turkish tea, it was a great experience. The food was solid as well! Definitely recommend the lamb in whatever you get! I love this place and when I make it back I love it even more. We came here for lunch with my coworker. Had the troy salad, this time with the Turkish chicken and we had some falafel to start. Everything is so tasty and delicious you can't go wrong with anything you choose from the menu. The staff is always so friendly and ready to help. Since I've been coming here for a while now, I always get some tea or desert surprise which makes my experience that much more enjoyable and so it is for the people alongside. The coffee is so freshly brewed and full of flavors while is also served in such a traditional way. You just want to stay and enjoy your afternoon here. I came here and ordered the lamb plate (really good!) and the mezze plate -- the food overall was solid and flavorful. That said, there were a couple of service hiccups that brought the experience down. We asked for a $15 bottle of wine, and the server suggested a "better" bottle at the same price. I confirmed three times that it would be matched at $15. Instead, he ended up only bringing us glasses of wine and declined to give us the bottle, which didn't feel right. On top of that, pita bread took forever to come out, and our water glasses weren't refilled. First timer at Troy ATX, and I have to say it did not disappoint:) The ambiance first off was not what I expected when I walked in (in a good way)! The location was obscure so I did not have expectations for the inside. That said I think I was fabulously surprised by "don't judge a book by its cover," because the inside was a cute setup. A small hidden gem, but well dimmed for a Friday night dinner. The service was also great, very fast, responsive, and happy to help. Now the food let's get into what we really want to hear. Chicken Skewer plate: The chicken skewer plate was great because the chicken itself was juicy and well marinated. The rice on the side was something I was not the biggest fan of. It missed a lot of marks for what I usually think of when I think Mediterranean Turkish rice. That said, the rest of the plate made up for it with a pretty good salad, granted I got the entire hummus board. I absolutely threw extra hummus, tzatziki, and other flavoring on my rice. It was served with a salad that had some great toppings and of course the poblano pepper and tomato. The board dips: These various hummus, tzatziki boards were good, but I definitely must say it was a fun shareable board. There were 6 different dips all of which I tried. Now I cannot name each one, but I do think they all hit the mark of pretty close to fabulous tastings. Turkish coffee: This coffee was the favorite in my experience. It was strong, but it had a great cut of sweetness. You are served these chewy sugar pieces on the side, I do not know the name but I enjoyed them with the coffee. When you walk in, this place feels like old 1990s Austin in the best possible way! Unassuming, intimate, very "real" without gimmicks. Service was friendly and attentive. On to the food: DELICIOUS. We shared a Mezze platter. The Shakshuka and the Acuka were the best I've ever had. I had the vegan plate which included: stuffed grape leaves (so GOOD, if a tad on the small side), cabbage dolmades (hadn't had these before and they were GOOD!), falafel, rice. My son liked the chicken skewers. The appetizers and wraps are reasonably priced. The entrees are above 20, which we'll gladly pay for this level of quality, as opposed to the frozen/reheated slop served elsewhere. So glad to find this hidden gem! read more

Overall great service and a nice place to get your Mediterranean/Turkish food fix if you are ever in North Austin. The first time I came here was with a friend, and we shared some small dishes off the appetizer side of the menu. We tried a dish that was like hummus but a darker red color and spicier, which I found exquisite. I decided from that visit that my next mission was to bring my boyfriend and try some of the entree specials. I had the chance to do just that last weekend. My boyfriend got a meat dish (Turkish meatball dish) and I got the falafel platter. My plate came with rice, two small pita triangles, a modest side salad, halved falafel balls, hummus, and tahini. I feel like it could have come with more sauce to balance the falafel, but overall it was a reasonably-portioned plate. We were also given samples of grape leave rolls and a pistachio dessert to try! My boyfriend was incredibly impressed and now wants to come back so we can try the Turkish coffee (we were too full to try it during this visit!). The staff was super friendly and nice, and was gracious to have us come by on a Saturday in the late afternoon (we were the only ones dining at the time). Already looking forward to returning! This little spot may be overlooked as it's a part of a strip behind the Chevron gas station, but don't be fooled. Worth getting to know this authentic Turkish taste of the Mediterranean. Yes, it's small. It's family-owned. Therefore, this might mean longer waits (so don't show up hangry). But because it's small and family-owned, you'll truly feel like you've come to the home of the owners, and once things start to slow down after the rush, you'll feel like you've been welcomed by the family as you get to know them. It's truly a family effort, and it's admirable to see how even a small service can work together to accommodate the needs of all their guests (15 tables). An eclectic ambiance, sharing vibrancy. Orhan, one of the sons, makes it a priority to provide the best service possible and cares to share the culture of his family; learning your names, opening doors, sharing details relevant to what you're eating/drinking (if you care to know). In the kitchen, Okan and Cam, make sure it's a collaborative effort and not simply a separation of front of house and back of house. We truly felt like we came to their home and were welcomed as family. Do yourselves a favor and order the Iskender. Not only is it tasty, but there's a presentation of the meal that you may not get elsewhere. Of course, it may come out quicker than you expect, so feel free to slow play it by starting with the Mezze Sampler. We decided against it and started with the lentil soup (perfectly pureed with a unique taste of olive oil with seasoning) and the Acuka. Perfect amount of pita, so you don't fill up before your meal. Don't sleep on this place! I was in the area and stumbled upon this hidden gem. What originally brought me here was the Turkish coffee (which was so good, I ordered 2!), but the food sealed the deal. We ordered the mezze plate for 2 and it was so filling. Each dip was so flavorful; my favorites were the carrot, hummus, and shakshuka. We also shared a troy plate for a little bit of everything. My son has been raving about Troy and last night I finally made it, and Troy delivered. There is a very chill, romantic ambiance with the low light and tasteful music. I've had plenty of mediterranean places before with the traditional gyro and rice place meat offerings, but not traditional authentic Turkish food. My turkish friend (doesn't live in Austin) looked at the menu and confirmed the menu and food is traditional Turkish dishes. I was torn between the Iskender Kebab or the meatballs, the serve recommended the iskender kebab as that was his favorite Turkish dish. I was not disappointed, definitely a unique combination of tomato sauce on gyro meat with chopped pita bread at the bottom. The yogurt complimented the meat and sauce very well. They added melted butter on top which was a very nice touch to bring out the flavors. I also ordered the pistaschio baklava, love the pistachio flavor but the baklava itself its just a tad bit too sweet for my taste. Service was great and they are super friendly. We had a wonderful Friday night dinner at Troy ATX. It has a very relaxed vibe and is right next to a gas station so that's how you know it's good! The server was wonderful - I think his family owns the place and he was enthusiastic in interacting with all the diners. That was a great plus to begin the dinner. We ordered a mezze plate and got to try all of the different dips - it was very filling and my favorites included the carrot hummus and acuka for sure. The shakshuka was a little too oily for me without much flavor and we're also just not eggplant people... I also got a side of falafel that were really delicious - crispy on the outside and soft and flavorful on the inside. My husband had the lamb plate and really enjoyed it - found it very flavorful. The dessert was one of the best things I've had - goat milk Turkish ice cream slices and baklava. So creamy and has an incredible mouthfeel. So fun. We're huge fans of medi, so we are always on the lookout for a solid spot. Troy happened to be nearby our friends' place that we were staying at, so we grabbed takeout one night and are very glad we did. I had the turkish beef meatballs, and my boyfriend had the gyro. He was very excited because being gluten intolerant, he can almost never have gyro, but it's one of his favorite things. He said it was good, but wished that it was more than just white rice with gyro. The "side salad" that came with our plates was fairly forgettable. I felt the same way about my dish. I loved the meatballs a lot, but wish the rice had a big more flavor to it. We are used to turmeric and cumin spiced rice when we get Mediterranean food, so the white rice was a smidge of a letdown. Also, we just expected more food to come with each dish. I will say though that Troy had some of my favorite baklava I've ever tasted! read more

We ordered for my father-in-law's birthday through Uber eats. I called the restaurant to make sure my notes showed up and the person who answered the phone was so courteous and friendly and confirmed that they had read all of our notes and would do the best they could to make it a special meal. This restaurant is far from my house and the Uber driver took quite a while to deliver, yet the food was piping hot when it arrived. Everything was delicious and I highly recommend anyone wanting to do take out to order from Troy. The Iskender kabob is a must. It's one of the best I've had (including in Turkey!). The portions are so large, I'm still eating my leftovers two days later. They lit a candle for me and my husband and turned on a little campfire on the tv screen. Our server was so so kind! I just realized my last review of Troy was 2015 so definitely time for an update. I really like this restaurant. The food is excellent. It has a nice, casual feel. The prices are good, not cheap but the quality of food is very good. The service is still pretty leisurely so you may have to flag down the waiter if you've been waiting awhile. On our last visit, I tried the Iskender Kebab. Delicious! It's basically just gyro meat on top of pita bread covered with a tomato-based sauce. But it's really good. You have to let them pour the melted butter on top. It's my new favorite dish at Troy. My wife got the gyro plate, which was excellent, as always. We also had the very good baklava for dessert. I was also there for lunch recently and got the gyro wrap. It's not as huge as some places but very good. Definitely a big fan of this small restaurant in NW Hills. We'll be back! read more

One of the best authentic Turkish restaurants we have had here in Texas. The ambience was great for a date night or a quiet dinner away from the city. I lived in Turkey for 2 years and the service and food brought me back. We ordered the Mezze plate that had 6 dips and lots of pita, and a bowl of the red lentil soup. Delicious! We shared the iskinder plate which shortly followed the soup, the presentation of the plate was gorgeous and topped off with delicious browned butter. This was so tasty, I did save room for dessert, I asked for a specific Turkish dessert which was not on the menu. unfortunately they did not offer it there but no need to fear, in true Turkish tradition the waiter offered us a different dessert just as tasty that was not on the menu and we excepted. Best decision ever, when you visit save room and ask for Katmer for dessert! It is tender pistachio rolls with cream and rolled in philo dough baked to perfection. Out of this world!!
