Came for mothers day dim sum with mom and aunties and uncles~ the sanitation is not that good and the plates, chopsticks, cups, and silverwares aren't cleaned! They got left overs from previous meal... the air conditioner vent is dripping water... Right into our food...but got to say that the manager took care of the issues with a quick and friendly manner, a plus... Anyways, the food was pretty decent...the got a quick stove up in front where u can order some daily vegies and dim sums quick and hot...if you are from an Asian Chinese background you will feel nothing special~the quality has dropped over the years~ It will be great if they can improve on the sanitation and cleaning of the daily uses~ read more

Came here for a wedding. The entire restaurant was rented out, and it was lovely, lively evening. Not the biggest space, but easily accommodated 40 tables. Or maybe it didn't seem as large because of all the tables. Had space for a photo booth area which was awesome and fun for the guests! They were able to create a small makeshift dance floor on the carpet. But they had to keep readjusting it. Some of the banquet highlights: Steak, asparagus -- very tender steak Chicken -- crispy skin and shrimp chips Melon/lobster salad -- too much mayo Alaskan crab legs prepared simply with garlic and scallion Fried rice with gravy sauce that was served in a Alaskan crab head. Almond cookies, orange jello, bean soup, and orange slices for dessert The timing of the food was off. There would often be long breaks after the first 4-5 dishes were served. And at the very end, they brought 2-3 dishes along with the desserts. Seems like they were scrambling and not sure why they chose to space things out like that. But I don't hold that against them as they need to work with the flow of the wedding? Overall enjoyable food. read more

The giant crab was cooked and served a few different ways, this dish alone is enough for me to come back. It was so sweet and tender, chunks after chunks of crabby goodness will cheer up anyone's day. As for the other dishes, they didn't stand out to me from other chinese banquet restaurants. I only ate here twice and was satisfied both times having very different course-first was buffet style with more americanized foods such as mayo shrimp, fried rice, spring rolls and the second time was more chinese wedding food. read more

Solid place for dim sum. Out of all the Chinese restaurants in this area, my family and I always come to this one. Their dishes are consistently good and I like that they have a separate area in the back if you want to order the fried foods (white radish cake, fried rice noodles, fried stuffed peppers, etc). My favorite thing about this place is that they serve sweet tofu dessert (豆腐花). Not all dim sum places have it and if they do, it's not always silky smooth like the one served here. They also recently renovated the place and it's a lot bigger. It feels more spacious than some of the other restaurants in the area. read more

I want to give it a worse review but the wait staff seemed nice. This place was gross. The food was not worth eating or even talking about. The party I was at had two parties in the same room with competing DJs separated by a room divider that barely blocks people let alone a sound system. This means that neither side has music that sounds good, and no possibility of a conversation with dinner guests when the other side is blaring unintelligible music. I wish I could say anything good about this place but I can't. Wait I can, nice TV but they didn't know how to work it without the menu being up in screen Everytime they tried to change the background. This place was honestly just terrible I was there for a 4 hour party and I'll probably never forget how bad it was. It's been a day and at least once every hour I keep saying oh my god that was terrible. read more

Dim sum has never been my go to breakfast/brunch item choice. However, out of all the dim sum places I have tried in the city, Affable Eatery is one of the better ones. The quality and presentation does not compare to Tim Ho Wan in East Village, but you do get a lot of variety and it's done well. If you come on a weekend morning/early afternoon, it's guaranteed to be packed. My advice would be to come early, around 9 AM, to save yourself the wait. That being said, this restaurant is quite big so the turnover isn't too bad. In typical dim sum fashion, you can expect to see ladies pushing carts full of steamed baos and dumplings. Most of the dishes I've tried have been good, with my favorites being the shrimp stuffed eggplant, gao choy gao (chive and shrimp dumpling), and the liu sa bao (salted egg custard steamed buns). Overall, if you're in the area and want some good dim sum, then Affable Eatery is the place for you. The restaurant gets chaotic, but don't be afraid to stick out a hand or yell for attention. Don't worry. You won't be the only one. read more

You got to try the Steamed Creamy Custard Bun (as in photo), it's inside is stuffed with runny butter, egg yoke etc ( i dun quite know the ingredient), very very YUMMY!!!!! other than that, everything is good quality, the place is big, clean and comfortable! great for family! read more

This is my favorite dim sum place to go to in Brooklyn. They have the traditional push cart sum sum, with little dishes like Chinese Beef Balls, Spicy Spare Ribs, and Chicken with Sticky Rice. If eating dim sum is not what you really want, they have rice and noodle dishes like beef and string beans over rice or seafood pan fried noodles. I would recommend coming here during the weekdays at lunch time (12:00-2:30pm), as it gets very busy here at night. It's a great place to hold a wedding because of their huge space for banquets, but it's also a great place to just come for a family reunion. But make sure you make a reservation because it gets very crowded. read more

Came here to celebrate a friend's baby 100 days old and just thought another typical Chinese restaurant with banquet style dinner dishes (nothing exciting). However, food was surprisingly yummy and more importantly service was good. Waiters were friendly and patiently waited for us to take food pics before dividing the food and serving each person on the table. That's pretty rare for any Chinese restaurant in NYC (sadly but true!). I would come back again to try dim sum or even dinner if I'm in the neighborhood. One less star because the abalone tasted a bit fishy and sea cucumber's texture can be slightly softer (need to be cooked longer). read more

We came here for a wedding banquet yesterday. Good food for the most part and good service too! Got abalone (excellent), steak (too chewy), soup (very tasty), roast suckling pig (very, very good), lobster (excellent), yee min noodles (so good), fish (excellent)! Overall, I would recommend m. Respectable and unlike some others, didn't get sick and didn't find it unsanitary. read more

This restaurant has weddings very oftenly held here so it gets super crowded especially on weekends and nights. I enjoy their comfy seating and shrimp with mayonnaise (that has honey glazed walnuts with their broccoli) every time I'm here for dinner despite my allergy to shellfish. They have a nice staff and this is the only restaurant my family will go to for dim sum or evening dinners. Also their sweet red bean soup after your meal really satiates my sweet tooth and cravings. read more

Maybe it was my incessant babbling about how good Vancouver dim sum was, but mom decided for her belated Mother's Day meal, she wanted dim sum. I suggested East Harbor after reading Yelp reviews but mom does not hear the beat of Yelp's drum but her only her own. And the dim sum here? A disappointment compared to other NY dim sum places and no comparison to any of the great stuff I had on a recent trip to Vancouver. We had: Shrimp Dumplings: big but okay. I ate one plate for myself only because I had nothing much else to eat. Custard Buns-mom liked this dish. A bit too much grainy filling, a bit on the sweet side and a tad too much. Another okay dish. Sesame Balls-more like fried mocha. Light and crispy. One of the better ones, though mom and Pickiest sis said it wasn't the real fried sesame balls, the ones with the thicker skin. Not, but way easier to get frozen mocha and fry it! Coconut Pudding-half coconut, half taro. Not great but not bad, not enough coconut flavor. Pretty. Tripe-Oldest sis and mom said okay but left half the bowl uneaten, though oldest sis is picky about the cuts of tripe she likes. Cruller wrapped rice rolls-surprisingly the crueler was crispy. Not my fave dim sum dish but here they did it well. That dish went the quickest next after the coconut pudding. Shrimp Rice Rolls-two small shrimp per roll. Shrimp was off in taste. I was too dazed from the blistering hot spring day to make a complaint about being served bad shrimp. Yuck all the way. Sis tried it and didn't touch the shrimp. Seriously? Spoiled shrimp? Tofu Skin Rolls-well, mom ate one and left two on the plate. She frowned too when I asked her if it was good. This place is huge, with a good crowd on a Friday morning. The white tablecloths sharply contrast with the gold fabric draped seats and the red walls decorated with gold phoenixes and dragons. Not a décor I'd call elegant, but certainly colorful and bold. The place needs to paint the dirty, scratched wall by the exit sign(as if furniture had been moved and the wall was damaged) and add some doors to some of the stalls in the ladies room. Would I come here again? I think I will wait for a return trip to Vancouver. read more

This place really sucked when it first opened. The food was horrible and their business was going down..I wanted to cry from eating their shitty dim sum if it wasn't for the tea washing away the flavor. And THEN!! One day, they hired a feng shui master (i'm really not lying here...this is Asian people we are talking about! read side story on bottom) and he told them to rearrange somethings and add a lot of neon lights on their sign and then BAM!! Business was booming for them!! I never go to dim sum restaurants in the morning ESPECIALLY on the weekends b/c the wait is always ridiculously long so my mom always buys it back for us to eat on Saturday and Sunday morning. I have to say, the food is really good and I don't know the English name of the noodles we usually get, but it's pan fried and you pour this seafood thick sauce on it...sooo goood. Side story: my mom asked me today, "are you going out today?" me: "i don't know mom..why?" mom: "b/c i read in the chinese horoscope book that you shouldn't go out today..something bad will happen" me: "........" read more

Not such a great dim sum joint. My dim sum was cold and extra chewy. The service was a bit spotty because they took my tea for a refill, but the waiter forgot all about it. He gave us a new pot of tea soon after. I forgive him because it could happen to anyone, but the combination of bad food and spotty service has me thinking twice about this place. The dining room looks lovely with beautiful hanging chandeliers, but I don't go to dim sum restaurants to look at the lighting - I go for the food!! The food was a bit of a disappointment because there are more higher caliber dim sum restaurants in Brooklyn. I don't plan to go back. read more

My dad said this place was renovated so we decided to check it out. We came around 2pm and was seated immediately. The place had nice lighting and huge led TVs. This place sold snow skin durian and we were excited to eat them since the other dim sum place always ran out. From the outside, it looked really nice bit when I took a bite, the skin was a bit dry and uncooked except for the durian. I was disappointed and only ate the filling. How can you manage to sell an item that is not cooked all the way and still charge $5 per dish. We ordered the usual such as chicken feet, shrimp rolls and the sticky rice. The bill came to be around $45 which was quite pricey. Definitely not coming back again. read more

My niece was turning 100 Days, which is a big deal in the Asian world. My brother chose this place, as it is a restaurant we've come to time and again throughout their many name changes/renovations. This time, they've expanded and the decor looks great - the food has changed too. I still don't come here for dimsum brunch, but I can safely say the dinner was great! Even though it was for a large dinner party, the food was above and beyond when it comes to Chinese banquet dinner. I was very happily surprised and am excited to come back for future family dinners. read more

I might be a tad biased rating this place because this happens to be the ONLY dim sum hall my family comes to.. but there must be a good enough reason for us to keep coming back right? Food: With the variety of dim sum dishes that they offer (both typical dishes and new ones), I have no reason to venture anywhere else. My favorites are their spare ribs, beef tripe and shrimp churng. Always a hit with me because they've never let me down before. If you get lucky and sit all the way in the back by where the fresh dim sums roll out then that's a plus for you! Piping hot plates of goodness rolling your way constantly. The prices are pretty decent. Service: Good service. They're alert and will refill your tea, take away the emptied dishes and exchange your dirtied ones for clean ones often. Here's where my biased rating lies: Almost every single waiter will recognize my grandparents. If my grandparents arrive before I do, they will point me in their direction before I'm even fully through the door. And let's be honest.. just like any other Chinese establishment.. it's all about the people you know and the connections so with this said, yes.. we mostly don't have to wait on that dreaded line and no we don't usually pay for the tea charge but it doesn't matter because we usually come before the rush anyways. It sucks for you as an outsider if you don't know anyone.. but bottom line is: you'll get seated eventually. So if you want to skip the crowds, I suggest you come before 10:30 AM on weekends. Weekdays are manageable and you won't have to wait. Cleanliness: Meh.. it's a typical Chinese restaurant.. what more do you expect? Expect an occasional smudge on your glassware or dish. Just let them know and they'll change it for you. read more

Affable Eatery - Dim Sum Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

My family comes here often for big family dinners. They have huge tables in a big giant room (this building used to be a car dealership..) so they always have more than enough space to accommodate my family of 14+. Food always comes out quickly, and arrives super hot and yummy. Their jelly fish dish is one of my favorites because they always serve it with seaweed salad! At this particular restaurant, instead of serving the usual pickled veggies and peanuts, they do pickled veggies and soy beans. It's much healthier and a welcome change to the normal appetizers. One of my ABSOLUTE favorite dishes they do here is the sea bass! It's stir fried sea bass on top, with a deep fried sea bass on the bottom. It's expensive but really delicious. Some cons: noise level. It's incredibly loud seeing as that you're in a giant room with about 30 other tables. Parking in this neighborhood is such a pain so it may take a little while to find it depending on the time of day. Bathrooms are horrendously dirty. read more

I came here one night for my buddy's wedding. Guy got married there and it was going to be a nice celebration. But...if you've been to a chinese wedding before it's VERY different from other weddings. It's basically a banquet meal with a lot less dancing and more just hanging out and listening to the announcer and what not....which would have been awesome if my buddy had been the only wedding going on over there, but we weren't. There was another wedding going on on the other side of a partition and it was just as loud as the wedding we were at. The food was good - but we were rushed towards the end of the wedding - the workers were pushy with food left on the plate and tried to force it onto people's plate so they can clear the table and what not. The food was good - the service wasn't. read more

I like it!! Went for Dim Sum on a Saturday morning. It's my dad's usual go-to place for dim sum now. Probably because he has hook-ups in there, now that I notice we've rarely had trouble getting a seat even with overcrowding (not crazy overcrowding, but good flow of business). Mostly everything is up to standard! Food is good. I usually avoid eating anything that's not in a steaming cart because with the circulation, it's probably gotten cold already. There's a nice variety of food here in the carts. It hold its own against Chinatown, that's for sure. SERVICE (probably just for us, with dad knowing the staff) was AWESOME. I don't know if the manager specifically had some waiters/hostesses near our table, but dang, our plates changed just on time a lot, tea was refilled almost asap, and napkins served with smiles. But even if we didn't know them, I think they'd still do a good job. Please pardon them when it gets extremely hectic, of course. The decor's not that bad! I think it's because it's still newly renovated a few years ago, and with good business, upkeep has been great. At least the bathroom's not a complete stinkhole. Again, I've rated this 3 because of food and standardness. I'm definitely coming back here when around the area. read more

In Brooklyn, my go-to places for Cantonese dinner are Lucky 8 and East Harbor. I've been to Spring Garden before, wasn't very impressed and haven't been back, but they changed hands recently, so my family went to give them "another" try for dinner. A nice, spacious dining space, very wide, brightly lit, and clean. Styled like a typical Cantonese banquet hall. Service is typical Chinese: efficient and brusque. We got three menus, one in Chinese, two in English, the shortest one with pictures. As a family dinner, we tend not to stray too much with the ordering, which actually makes it easier to compare different Cantonese restaurants. The hits: - crabmeat with pea shoots: tender, glossy, perfectly cooked pea shoots that were very fresh, with creamy crabmeat, seasoned just right - stir-fried sea snails: I loved the flavor, very tasty, refreshing, with depth. - fish soup: first course of the "one fish, two eats" dish. This was lovely with a dash of pepper; deeply fish flavored without any fishiness (sounds contradictory, lol). The mediocre: - sweet and sour spare ribs: bit too heavy on the batter, bit too heavy on the sweet - fried dungeness crab: too heavy on the batter but was otherwise was ok - salty fish, chicken, eggplant casserole: textures were fine but missed on flavor, which lacked depth, needed salt, and I dare you to actually find salty fish in there - toisan style stir-fried vermicelli: like eating stir-fried Singaporean style rice noodles, mung bean vermicelli with tons of ingredients, including Chinese dry sausage, ham, bean sprouts, and eggs. I love dry-cooked vermicelli but there were just too many things going on in this dish. Just my preference as others in my family loved it. The misses: - sauteed fish: the second course of the "one fish, two eats" dish was ruined by overcooking the fish fillets, and not just by a little. It was accompanied by excellent sugar snap peas and other veggies, which doesn't save it. - Garlic crispy chicken: skin not crispy enough, meat not juicy, mild flavors, and a very stingy portion Soooo .. its ok but just too inconsistent in their execution. Prices offer no advantage to any other place in the area. And with other much more reliably good places so close by, I don't see why I would return. read more

I usually come here with family and relatives for dim sum. This place can get kind of packed during the weekends; but goes quick since there's a lot of tables and spacious. The staff is friendly and the place is clean. The food here is decent and there is always food on the carts that comes around. They have a lot of different vary of dim sum. I also come here sometimes for family gathering or dinner. The dinner here taste pretty good. Once you order, the food arrives in like 15-20 minutes. Not much of a wait, if you are hungry. They do take reservations for dinner, but not for dim sum. Dim sum is first come first serve basis. I would recommend coming here to try if you are in the neighborhood. read more

This place has gone through if I'm not mistaken, two name changes since it opened up about 2 -3 years ago. I went there for dim sum at the beginning when it first opened and it was mediocre. Since then I haven't gone back for dim sum again. I came twice for dinner and both time I've had bad experiences. The first time I came, it was on a weeknight and the restaurant was practically empty. There were maybe at most 4 other tables of people besides our own there and service was INCREDIBLY slow. It took us over 45 minutes to get the first two dishes and this was after we complained. The food was mediocre - it was memorable. My second experience, I came on a weekend, and we made sure to make a reservation. First they gave our table away "accidentally" and when we waited patiently for another table to open up and when one did open up, they wouldnt' give it to us and instead gave it to a person who had a reservation an hour later than us. Their excuse, "well you called at 5pm and they called at 9am for the reservations." Needless to say, we were fuming! When we got our table, service was slow. The food was horrible. Some of the food came out cold. It was just plain horrible. I refuse to go back there no matter how much people has told me that it's changed and I speak for both my husband's family and my own. read more

We came here on New Years Day this to live up to my boyfriend's family traditions. There's not much open on New Years Day except for Chinese restaurants! We were supposed to go to East Harbor but it was a madhouse there and the wait here was much shorter. It was 100 numbers versus 20 to be called. Needless to say, we were hungry and ended up here. FYI... they tend to say the number in Cantonese so if you don't know, make sure to ask before they skip you. There's nothing too special about this dim sum place. They have all your traditional plates/dishes and the carts come around fairly consistently. They've got all the dumplings and chicken feet you'd ever want. And it's pretty cheap though. 3 of us had a ton of dishes and it came out to $35. The service was okay. As I said, we were seated quickly and the carts came around often. Although, I did have to ask several times for my glass of water and never had a refill. But I don't think that's typical for Cantonese people to drink. Oh and if you decide to pay with credit at the end you of your meal, they'll charge you city tax. If you pay cash, you don't have to pay tax. Overall, it's decent food and atmosphere. I would consider going back. read more

My family and I go here when we don't want to trek to or wait for East Harbor. Typical Chinese places for dim sum that is super packed on the weekends. Ways to bypass the wait? Go early or make friends with the staff! Location wise, it's pretty decent for bus, subway or cars. They do offer a small valet parking space, which is nice for those who live far away because you can park your car, get dim sum, and then stop by the Chinese supermarket for cheap but fresh groceries. Food wise, I would say it's average, with all the offerings you could want in dim sum. Depending on where you are seated, you might have to be more proactive to get dishes you want, as often the dim sum ladies would be ambushed by people whenever the pipping hot fresh dishes come out. I personally feel that that's part of the traditional dim sum experience I grew up with. Service is ok. You'll be taken care of, but not necessarily thoroughly. Price is pretty good compared to neighboring restaurants. The only downside is that this place is huge, so noise level and crowdedness can be an issue if that's not your cup of tea. Afterwards, do check out Three Guys around the corner for the cheapest and freshest fruit in Brooklyn! read more

I have been to this restaurant twice and regretted it twice. I went once as part of banquet and the food that was served was average. The flavor was bland, the ingredients were fairly fresh. However, on the menu there was a fish course but it never came which left everyone still alittle hungry. This occurred a few years ago. I went back to this restaurant a week ago and was fairly disappointed by the "Peking duck", which was just a roasted duck. Very disappointing. The rest of the dinner was fair. The oysters was ok. The lobsters were small and not very fresh. The fish was fresh but overcooked, even though the restaurant wasn't very busy. For full disclosure, I usually go to East Harbor Seafood Restaurant down the street from this place and this meal has provided me no reason to change that. read more

Had a (evening dinner) banquet at New Spring Garden. The place is relatively easy to get to by mass transit and they have a private parking lot for patrons (amongst street parking options in the neighborhood). Overall, space is standard Chinese restaurant decor; there are two sections divided by installed partition and lends into private functions, parties and/or weddings and is a good decent size. Only had their banquet food so I will only be reviewing the food from that menu. Overall, the courses weren't bad, it was just mediorce. A number of the dishes (jellyfish appetizer, mushroom veggies, e-fu noodles) was bland and could've use a bit more seasoning. The mayo shrimp with candied walnuts, lobster, sharkfin soup and roasted skin chicken was good. The fried rice (dry, plain) and the red bean dessert (too sweet) were misses. The waiters were friendly and helpful so that was a plus (and a slight surprise because these large pre-fixed functions often yield disgruntle workers). The bathrooms are clean and in a nicely tucked away from the dinning and kitchen space - and even greater plus! read more

This place has become a somewhat competitor to East Harbor down the street, with similar menus and space. I tend to prefer this establishment, as the food is always hot, fresh, and arrives promptly. If there's a particular dim sum dish you're looking for and don't see, you can ask any of the servers and they'll deliver a hot serving of it to your table when it comes out. I also have a pretty sensitive GI system, and the food here isn't as greasy as other places. It can get SUPER crowded and loud on the weekends for both dinner and dim sum, but that's always the case at a decent Chinese restaurant. During the week, dim sum is served starting at 7:30am, and although it's a smaller (and definitely more elderly) crowd, the food and service are still held to the same high standards. There is a free, cramped valet parking lot the size of a 2-pump gas station across the street, but you can also usually score a spot on 66th st. (street parking) behind the restaurant. read more

Came here to have dinner with my family tonight and I was very disappointed. My brother suggested this place because he had dim sum here and it was decent. Their dinner dishes weren't any good at all, lacked in flavor and completely over priced. A dish of maybe 10 strands of jelly fish was priced over $16. The good thing about this place was the presentation of the dishes were very pretty and appetizing. The service here was great, super attentive and super fast. Tea filled right away, plate taken away instantly when emptied. Maybe will come here and try dim sum one day, but I will stick to seafood restaurants in flushing queens for dinner. read more

this place is located right next to three guys from brooklyn, after some dim sum or dinner and u want to do some grocery shopping, its right next to this awesome restaurant, the management has changed hands many times, but it has gotten better came here once after bowling for dim sum and we ate so much food that it was only $15ish per person, i was like "really?" we kept ordering and it was a bargain, this dim sum place had a lot more variety than east harbor further up 65th street, not that much more one thing i like is the frying stations which makes things fresh, cuz i like it, especially the hot pepper with shrimp stuffing, my favorite a long with the eggplant with shrimp stuff, i would say the dim sum is like 3 stars i would give the dinner place 4 stars cuz the food is amazing, some of the food i had was part of a dinner course, had buddha delight (vegetarian dish), which was lightly fried and delicious, had the mushroom with veggies was good also, had the conch, fish with veggies, too bad i was only able to stay for half of the entire course, one plus is that the dishes were not filled with grease and very good and not salty read more
