In Brooklyn apparently there are only 2 places of dim sum that is considered the best. This would probably be one of the two. Prices are cheap and food are fresh. Selections are nothing of anything special. Your typical selections but good overall. Down a star for the parking! Oh boy do I hate finding parking in this area! Come before 12 to beat the rush. read more

Good place for dim sum, come early otherwise you'll have a hard time getting a table. Typical Chinese restaurant in Brooklyn. There are many in this area and they're not all that different. You can expect the same style food, service, and decor throughout the area. read more

Affable Eatery - Seafood noodle platter - Dim Sum Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Had Dimsum here today, much better than anything I've had in Hawaii. My inlaws eat here often, if I lived here, so would I. Food was good, service was as expected in any Chinese restaurant. Much cleaner and more pleasant than previous visits. read more

When we're visiting friends in Brooklyn, the two dim sum restaurants we frequent are New Spring Garden Restaurant and East Harbor. Since we were just picking up take-out, we opted to go to the less crowded New Spring Garden for quicker service. For 4 adults + child, we ordered: shrimp har gow - good, shrimp was fresh and large pork siu mai - good, flavorful and not too oily beef rice rolls - didn't try, looked good shrimp rice rolls - good, shrimp was fresh and rice roll was just right-- not too soggy and not too hard spring rolls - didn't try, looked perfectly golden and not too oily fried taro puffs - ok, a little soggy and not browned enough braised chicken feet - ok, flavor was good but it wasn't very tender steamed spare ribs - didn't try, looked good but oily turnip cake - didn't try, looked like it didn't have a lot of filling/toppings beef tripe - good, flavor was good and it was nice and tender shredded chicken pan fried noodles - good, pan-fried noodles were perfectly crunchy and there was a lot of gravy, chicken, and vegetables to pour over the noodles All in all, the dim sum was decent. I prefer the dim sum from East Harbor though, as do a lot of other people, judging from the much longer lines at East Harbor. I would recommend New Spring Garden if you don't want to wait on the much longer lines at East Harbor. read more

My family and I used to come here a lot for our family birthdays. I haven't been to this restaurant in a long time and recently had a family lunch here. This restaurant is enormous and ideal for a banquet/wedding dinner and family dinner/breakfast. They also have private rooms. On the most recent visit to this restaurant, my family and I had a private room to ourselves. Service wasn't up-to-par at all. My aunt had to flag down the waiters twice to ask for a simple bowl of white rice. The food was mediocre. The food used to be a lot better here. We had the typical fancy lunch without the noodles and sweet dessert soup. I don't know how much MSG the chefs added to the food, but my throat was completely dried out after eating lunch at the restaurant. I definitely wouldn't come back here for a while. I rather go to East Harbor because I've never had a bad experience with the food or service there. read more

I am impressed. Although there wasn't a huge selection of dim-sum (on a Monday that is), the dim sum they had was hot, tasty and varied. I had baby squid with garlic, some shrimp encased in egg white/custard, tripe and some sort of mashed taro root with pork. All of it was very good and wasn't heavy in the grease or salt department, the exception being the cold spring rolls. I would also stay away from the coffee. Just awful. The interior is clean and seems to be influenced by First Grandmaster Shek Kin , aka Mr. Han's palace from Enter the Dragon, but in a very subdued way. The dim sum ladies push you hard in buying everything and the service, such as water refills is a bit slow, but everyone is friendly. I wanted to try the pork ribs with rolled noodles, they had a heavenly curry smell to them, but I had already paid the check. This may be the best dim sum jointin Brooklyn, for now. read more

Pre-Fix menu of 10 dishes for almost $400: Food is just not good whatsoever. The best part was the cold jelly fish and the oranges at the end. How sad is the quality of food from all these banquet and dim sum places these days. read more

My family came here to meet up with their China classmates from 30+ years ago. It was super busy on a Sunday morning - I believe this is very common for every NYC restaurants on the weekends since there are so many people. There's a lot of variety of dim sum served here. We found it interesting that NYC still uses carts to go around asking customers what dim sum they want. In Chicago, we simply order from a piece of paper. I miss the carts going around so it was comforting to see it here. Most of the dishes were good.. They make the best egg yolk custard bun here.. When you bite into it, the yolk oozes out and it tastes so good! Overall - decent place. read more

Service was good and dim sum mediocre quality. We came here after reading an ad in the newspaper - 10% off total bill. The durian pastry which is pretty popular in many chinese dim sum restaurants now tasted like dough. Seemed like they added too much flour to enhance the image of the "real" durian inside the pastry. As for everything else - it tasted like leftovers from the day before EXCEPT for the xiao long bao soup dumplings which was dynamite. read more

Bomb ass dim sum!!! I would say that its the best dim sum I've had in NY thus far which includes all of Manhattan chinatown. They were a little off on their chicken feet that day and the people sitting across from us said the same thing, but overall this place is very on point. What made this plus even better is that they offer dishes I've never seen at other dim sum places. Love this place! (though I am a bit concerned that they may not be very consistent, which means that there are off and on days) read more

I went here for dim sum in the morning. As a restaurant, it sucks. The ambience, the service, the food is all at the most average. But you know what? An average dim sum place is hard to come around these days! Being average and having spacious seating is rare in of itself. (By spacious I mean my elbow doesn't jab into another person while I eat, but not far enough to provide comfortable room to spread your wings per say) If you want more variety and better food, not better service, go down 8th ave for pacificana. Good luck with the wait tho! But if your aiming for food that is just decent, and a place to hang out for 2 hours. Then this is good. read more

This is one of my parents' favorite restaurants in this Chinatown, which actually says something. Both because my parents are pretty picky, and because the Cantonese food in 8th avenue brooklyn chinatown tends to be pretty decent in general. Dim sum is good here and the wait here on a weekend can be quite long..good thing is this means that the food turnover is quite fast so usually you end up getting hot and fresh dim sum. Yum yum. Dinner here is always good and I don't think I've ever had anything that I disliked. That being said, I also can't remember anything I ate here, so it's probably just pretty decent and good Cantonese food. Service is typical Chinese restaurant service, largely meaning that while the servers are not often overtly friendly or extraordinarily attentive, they do get the job done. One advantage is also the parking lot, a rarity in the area. Yay parking! read more

You will find fresh and good dim sum. Night time I think the dishes are average. For me I will go back for dim sum.

This is your average dim sum joint. I went on a Saturday morning. Needless to say, overcrowded and way too loud (I suppose that's just how Chinese people have conversations) Parking in the area is terrible. Nothing special about the dim sum plates. Fresh, steamy, and excessively greasy. If you see the dim sum lady tries to give you the dish on the top, ask for another one. Why? Because most chinese families enjoy the hot steamy ones on the bottom while the top one endures prolong exposure on room air. Don't expect good service here. This place is overcrowded and understaffed. If you manage to grab a waiter for something, ask for everything because you won't be lucky to have a second chance. read more

Amid Brooklyn Ctown's dim sum choices, New Spring Garden is mediocre in terms of speediness of the carts, quality of the food and decor (not that I care that much about decor when I'm just getting my dim sum fix, but food...fo sho!). My biggest gripe is having to slooooowly wait for the my sui mais and ha gows to come. Being assertive and hollering for my food during Chinese brunch is a norm - that, I understand and embrace. But having to get on my feet and chase down the carts is just too much work, and even then we didn't get everything we wanted from a typical dim sum meal. Blah. I'd go somewhere next door if wait time is similar. read more

Authentic Cantonese cuisine. We came for an early dinner. We felt safe. The tables are spaced out and the exhaust fan is really strong. All the dishes we had were superb. Complimentary oranges and desert after the meal. Real treat! read more

My family reserved 8 tables for a 1 month baby banquet. Usually you would have to pay for all 8 tables. And if you aren't able to use a table or two you can save the "credit" for next time. When we finally got there, we only fill up 6 tables. So we had 2 tables left. They were nice and didn't take the deposit for the 2 tables. So there weren't a credit for future use. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. This really bump up 1 star for my review. Food-wise, it's just okay. Nothing fancy. Taste is just regular. Nothing really bothered me. We asked for things like soda, water, salt & vinegar... everything came promptly. I came here a few times for dim sum in the morning. Weekends. Its about a 30 minute wait for a large table. read more

Great service, great quality, great owner. I can't exaggerate how good this place is. The only thing is the price is a little overpriced. However, from Monday-Fridays are 15% off. Although the price is moderately high, the quality of the food excels. The food is brought fresh and live before being cooked. Definitely try this place out! You won't be disappointed. My favorite dish is their "cold king crab" and their "lamb chops"! And then at the end of the dinner, they provide free desserts. read more

Came here on a Sunday around 12pm. Me and my friends were searching for a dim sum place that we haven't gone to. We went to Pacificana so many times but the line was extremely long this time. Of course, it's 12pm... what can I expect? We went to 'New Spring Garden' because my friend said his family went there plenty of times. We decided to go and check it out. The place was pretty nice and fast. I got a ticket for 5 and we didn't wait too long. I would say 20 minutes tops on a Sunday. Seriously, a Sunday. I like their system way better than the people at Pacificana who are like sharks and jump tables once they are open. There's actually SOME sort of order. The food though is your typical affair with ha gao, siu mai, ha jurn, etc. There are different type of things that might pique your interest though. The food was pretty fresh and warm too! I also liked how the carts have Chinese characters for what they have in their carts. I can slightly read it and it helps distinguish between all the carts running around. Overall, I left pretty full and spent $51 with the 5 of us. Not bad at all. read more

Come prepared to demonstrate some Hunter Gatherer skills. The service is terrible, starting with the main Hostess. We came on a Saturday, with a party of 4 people, and queued like the rest. If you don't speak Chinese you may not realize this, but the numbers are not called sequentially. The Hostess tends to skip numbers, which is okay if she's just trying to fit you with the right table based on your party size; however we waited close to 50 minutes, while she skipped us several times, and jumped 10+ tables ahead. I asked her several times, where we were and she just ignored me when I noticed this. There does seem to be a ranking in seating priority which my guess is if you're Chinese, elder-Chinese, Chinese and know the boss or Chinese and come regularly you'll get put in front of the queue. Meanwhile, others who can't speak or understand Chinese just think it's super busy, and just your regular Dim Sum place. You also get sat in a family style table which is typical in large Dim Sum places. If you're sat in the corner of the restaurant like us then you're screwed. This is where you need a Hunter and Gather at the table to go out, seek food, and bring it back to your party. You can also try the wave them down approach which works too, by raising your arm, with your ticket in your hand, and waving it side-to-side at the Dim Sum carts. The only disadvantage to this approach is the black coated people may think you want to tally up your bill. This really wasn't terrible until the Manager sat at our table, while seating 2 of his friends, and then something amazing happened. Carts began coming, ladies with food in their hands would bring steaming dishes over and ask the 2 if they wanted anything. It was spectacular. Where were these 2 people earlier? The other incident of bad service occurred when asking for hot sauce. I don't understand why it's such a big deal not to have it on the table for self-service, or why it's like pulling teeth to get condiments. In any case, the first Waiter when asked to bring us hot sauce, completely ignore us, didn't even make eye contact, he looked at our table and turned the other way. My friend thought perhaps he didn't hear him, however when he tried to flag down another Waiter, the first one walked over with a little saucer for the 4 of us. Really?! Terrible service for mediocre Dim Sum. I will admit there are additional options here, but not to be treated this way unless of course you're Chinese or have an in, in some way. read more

We came here for dimsum last weekend. We were at the intersection between this and that other dimsum place but we didn't want to walk too much. The place was crowded as expected but after a short wait, we were able to get seating for 5. The dimsum carts didn't seem to go by our section all that often but when they did, we found that they contained all the dishes we were looking for. We did notice that some of the other tables needed to hunt for the appropriate carts. After getting a few dimsum dishes, instead of waiting for more carts, we just signaled a waiter and placed our orders directly. One was a noodle dish from the menu and that was quite good. The other was a dimsum dish from a dessert cart that we waited for but never saw. read more

Went here for dim sum and dinner. Let me talk first about the dim sum. Usually there a wait but the wait is not long only on the weekend. The foods quality is ok. My brother in law company had a fundraiser dinner at the restaurant. They had Hong Kong pork chop and there wasn't enough sauce on it. Friend bean curd vegetarian dish taste ok. They had celery squid with shredded chicken. Well here there wasn't no squid so they added shredded beef and chicken. It taste pretty good. Next time hope there would be squid. The Walnut with jumbo shrimp was ok. The other foods that came was alright. It is not good and it is not bad. I would definitely come back to the restaurant for a party and maybe dim sum again if I am in that area. read more

Not a fan at all food was good service was terrible I sat there for 20minutes b4 I could order a meal the dim sum I had was alright, and my waiter paid me no mind he would only deal with the people in front and behind me had to literally grab him so I could pay my bill. It was severely crowded I will not be going back again read more

I have been here a few times and it helps to have someone who speaks Chinese in your party. We came early on a Sunday morning to avoid the afternoon rush, which can have you waiting anywhere between 45 minutes to over an hour. None of the women pushing the food carts spoke or understood English which is one of the reasons for only 3 stars. If my friend wasn't with me, I don't know what we would of been eating because we would of been ordering randomly. It works on a card system where you get something off the cart and they mark your card which then becomes your bill at the end. Very efficient. The food was both good and not so good. Some items like the pork buns and other things were very good. But some things we tried, like the tripe and chicken feet were not to my taste. Would come back here again only because it's one of the better Dim Sum places around. read more

I came with some friends for dimsum on a Saturday morning. My boyfriend and I were running late so two of our friends waited for the table at the restaurant. I think they mentioned that they only waited 15 minutes before being seated. That's awesome! I think it was good timing on their part because when I walked in there was a good amount of people standing around waiting to be seated. We had to share a table with two strangers but we didn't mind. That usually happens when you go to dimsum with a small party. The dimsum was nothing spectacular but it was still satisfying. The food carts didn't come around often enough and because we were seated far from the kitchen the items we wanted were gone by the time the cart reached us. Some of the ladies pushing the dimsum carts are friendly but some are rude. It's expected though, from previous experiences at many other dimsum restaurants. The restaurant has a small parking lot across the street, otherwise, parking is not easy to find in this area on a weekend. This restaurant is one of two dimsum restaurants I would go to on 65th Street. Nothing fancy but it does the job. read more

One of the best dim sums in Brooklyn. Extremely busy on the weekend, especially Sunday brunch. I attended a wedding last night at this place and I must say it was horrible! Those of you that intend on featuring a wedding there DON'T! Stay away. Not only different tables right next to us were sometimes served earlier and finished we didn't get even get our food. Service was horrible! A waiter snatched the takeout boxes away from me because he's in a rush and he seems upset that he has to work. Do yourself a favor, take your money somewhere else for your wedding. I am just thinking because it was a fuzhounese wedding the wait staff was Cantonese and more uppity high class they treat us like that. I only hope the wedding party was treated better. read more

I'm having dim sum here for the first time and it's very big and roomy here. My family got here early, 8:30AM on a Sunday morning so there was so waiting but by 10AM I already see them passing out numbers and a line forming in the restaurant. Quality of food is great - pineapple bun fresh from over so crisp and bun was soft. Just delicious Beef stew on noodles - usually most places just have spare ribs over noodles so this was unexpected and also exciting. Beef stew was tender and easy to chew. Great experience but definitely come early on weekends to make sure the wait isn't so long. read more

It disheartens me to have to give this place 2 stars. I'm giving it 2 instead of 1 because a lot of the people that worked here before are still working here, and they all have a great heart. I used to love this place. It was my go to spot for dim sum and dinners when it was still called New Spring Harbor, or whatever it was called. The service here is still great. The servers are still very attentive. Our plates were changed often and they asked us how our meal was throughout the meal. They also refilled our teas and our teapots were never empty. The good stuff ends there though. We were told a new owner bought the place, but it is still run by the original people. I should say a rich mainland China invested in the place, that's why the renovation and gaudy looking designs. A new chef was brought on board, and the chef is a mainland China chef. It is no longer a chef that is familiar with how to make delicious Cantonese dishes so hence, why our meal was so bad tonight, and all the cut corners. Don't order the Peking Duck here. It is fake. We were given a regular duck, and it was pretty bad. A Peking duck is not the same as a regular duck. They also don't have many. We overheard another table requesting one, and they were told they sold out. Salt Pepper Squid. This is one of my favorite dishes, but this dish was so bad. Our dish wasn't made with squid. It was made with something else, and we weren't told until the end when we told them the dish was bad, that it wasn't squid. I don't know what it is in English, but whatever we were given, it was frozen, and tasted horrible. It also lacked flavor. Fried Tofu: this is also one of my favorite dishes, and it was ok. The tofu was really tiny and shriveled up. It didn't look fresh either. Tofu fish casserole: I don't how to say this in English either, but it's the tofu fish dish in the hot clay pot. The fish tasted like it was frozen, and it was pretty bad. This is also a fave dish, but they failed. The best dish was veggies, bc they were fresh. This tells you something. If the dish is made with fresh foods, it has potential to be good. So if my bad dishes were made with fresh ingredients, I wonder if my opinion would change. The yee meen lobster was also pretty delicious. The lobster and noodles tasted fresh. The chicken was okay. It tasted as it should. It's the one with the crispy chicken. The tbone steak was also okay. I'm really disappointed in the change of chef since a lot of dishes lacked taste. The tastes of dishes aren't Cantonese style. There's just something off. Every dish was missing something. I'm also disappointed they cheated us by substituting the Peking Duck and the Salt Pepper Squid dish with inferior ingredients. All I have to say is, if management is reading this, bring back the old chef or bring back a true Cantonese chef. You will just continue to hurt yourself with the way you're going. Step up, make your dishes with fresh ingredients, and don't skimp out. People will notice, and your renovation will have been for nothing. read more

I've heard such good things from my friends whose been here so I decided to come try it with my family on a weekday. I'm giving this restaurant 2 stars because the service here was quite poor, took forever to flag down a waiter to replace our dishes, the cart ladies did not come around as often as usual, and the food was just not that great. I really wanted to come here because of all the new dishes they've come out with instead of the usual dim sum dishes but the new stuff wasn't all that much to rave about. The only dish that I thought was absolutely delicious was the baked buns w/ bbq pork! If you're lucky and you get an order when it's fresh, it is melt in your mouth heaven (similar to the ones found in Tim Ho Wan). However, I don't think I'll be coming back because everything else was so mediocre. read more

The dim sum here are mediocre quality. Ordered a beef chow mein and there was still blood coming from the beef. It was still pretty raw and don't look appetizing at all. I was like yeaa I eat my steak medium rare too but this is a freakin beef chow mein. I don't want to eat my chow mein with blood all over it. Overpriced for dinner and dishes were bland. We had Buddha delight with bamboo shoots, fried prawns with mayo, walnuts, and broccoli, vegetarian noodles with mushrooms, ginger and scallion lobster, tofu and fish in a clay pot and a couple more. Came for their soft opening. Food is refreshing, in a way as a long time Chinese American who has been going to dim sum as long as I can recall. It wasn't overly salty. Good portions. Traditional Taishan dishes which is their selling point. I don't think any other restaurant in the city in the city has the handful of dishes they offer, such as their dark sugar leavened cake. Bonus is the walk up window where you order an assortment of small dishes not regularly offered with dim sum like fish balls and ten varieties of congee. However, menu for the window is currently only in Chinese. As always, staff friendly, eager to seat you, and the dim sum ambience. Better location than others for parking too read more

My family and I came here for Mother's Day dinner last night. The manager took our orders and he was pretty obnoxious. My grandpa wanted to add an extra order and he commented saying we have enough food for 9 people, don't waste your money! Who does that?! Who refuse extra orders? Terrible business attitude. He was also talking down on my father. Only in Chinese business establishment does this fly. I am Chinese myself and I am embarrassed at the rude obnoxious behaviors of my own people. Food didn't come till good 30-40 mins later (very slow for Chinese food). Food was okay, nothing to write home about. The bill came at the end and everyone was surprised at how much everything was. I don't know if it's because of Mother's Day but each dish was insanely high. What surprised me the most was a plate of green veggie for $33. Wtf?! Overpriced is an understatement!!!! Total highway robbery and rip off. You can be sure I won't be coming back here again. Neither for dimsum or dinner. read more
