This review is actually just for their free "wood chips" that they deliver. Don't bother requesting for their wood chips - it is not worth it even though it is free! The wood chips they give is mixed with other garbage, fruits, unprocessed branches, whole tree trunk sections. Very low quality chips! My neighbor hired them to trim tree(s) on her property. They didn't ask permission to come onto my property to do the work from my driveway. I came home from a doctor's appointment to find large amounts of large debris and a chainsaw in my driveway. When the foreman (?) saw me outside, he came over to talk to me, saying they'd clean everything up. They didn't. While I was inside, they also shoved my trash cans aside (it was trash pick-up day). They left a bizarre thin branch hanging over my property, from a mostly-removed tree on my neighbor's. I didn't hire this company, and wouldn't. In case the company wants to follow up, and complete the work, the crew on this job was using a truck with license plate 8T51495. Update 7/13/21: Interestingly, today I noticed that the leaning-over weird little branch has been tucked behind limbs of a small tree on the edge of my driveway. So that the neighbor's weird branch is now pushing my tree's limbs over. If anyone thinks that's an acceptable solution, they're mistaken. If it's Advance Tree Service that did this, please come back, finish cutting my neighbor's tree so that it's not damaging mine, and remove the debris. If Advance Tree didn't come to this "solution," please contact me so I can address it with the neighbor who hired you. read more

What a nightmare. Incompetent crooks. Took 6 weeks to book a job to create some clearance around our house. They reminded me how lucky I was to get even that appointment (ugggh). Several weeks before they came I asked to also have a fallen tree removed. I sent detailed photos and made a half dozen attempts to get it in writing that they would remove the tree while on site. The best I got is "we'll try to do it." But when the crew got here they knew nothing about the tree I've been calling and emailing about multiple times. I ask them to remove it anyways (they spent an additional 45 minutes) and we agreed that they'll add it to the bill. Well, they only partially removed the tree. And after trying for a month to get the final invoice they finally sent it and slap on an extra $650 over the quote! So many other problems too. The crew was wildly incompetent. I had to beg them to pickup trimmings they cut. They were literally acting like children. I really feel like I've been robbed. I realize that there are not a lot of places with availability due to the labor shortage. But you're better off not using Advance Tree Service. I could've done the work myself in the same amount of time I spent hassling with them. I would've saved thousands of dollars and it would've been done better. I have not one positive thing to say about these people. read more

Darren shown up to do estimate after we flaked on him two different times, and he was very professional, really informative, and very good giving suggestions. Then, on the day that the work was done it was kind of raining. The guys continue to work through the rain because it was on and off showers. They did a fantastic job. They even made my neighbor happy. She wanted them to trim more of the tree on her side and they happily did it. The yard was clean when they left. I'd highly recommend them. read more

This Tree service is very far from advanced. 3 trucks came and blocked a small cul de sac so garbage trucks could not enter. Running loud noisy engines and leaf blowers for 4 hours, taking their sweet time, as l neighbors suffered with the noise and debris flying in the air. Then came the loud shoveling into the cement for no reason and they left a huge mess behind in the street! Very unprofessional and too slow. read more

They never showed up at the appointed time for an estimate. I did not receive a phone call or e-mail or any other attempted notification as I sat at my home waiting for the owner to arrive. Professionalism starts with arriving promptly for all work. I doesn't take much to do that. read more

I called last week explaining my concerns about a large Valley Oak that's not doing well, requesting a certified arborist that would provide a report for me. Their front office explained that it would be a $150 fee and assured me that Darren, a certified arborist, would be evaluating my tree. I got a call this morning to confirm my 2:00 appointment. The office said the person coming was not a certified arborist and that it would be a verbal evaluation only. When I explained my concerns about the tree, she said she could reschedule for Darren another time, but "clarified" that the $150 fee is NOT for a written report and that a written report would be over $400!! I explained that I need a written report because another tree service looked at the tree and believes that the tree is failing because my neighbor did some extensive unpermitted regrading. She said that the $150 charge is because Darren is a certified arborist and if he just came and looked at trees for free, he would be doing that and not earning any money. I believe he would have been making money either from treating the tree to try to save it OR from what we would pay for tree removal if the tree couldn't be saved. This is very, very disappointing. I'm quite willing to pay $150 (for a written report, not just a verbal report). A verbal report helps me in no way when I need to negotiate with my neighbor. But over $400 for a written report?!?!? Really?? I was surprised, but polite on the phone, but she quickly offered to take me off their appointments, with no other possible solutions or suggestions. In looking at other reviews, I don't see any mention of a $150 fee for Darren to come and look at your tree. I'd love to get estimates for whatever the tree needs, but I just can't bring myself to use this company after this exchange in spite of their other good reviews. Follow up: So I called back to see if I could just have the person (not a certified arborist) come out and give me an estimate. She said they couldn't come until Monday, then asked me for my information again because she had deleted it!! That doesn't seem like good company practice. I just said that I'll have to go with a different company because completely deleting a customer's info in this situation is poor practice. Wow! And I was totally willing to give them a second chance at customer service. read more

We were concerned about a Sycamore Tree we had, and we were recommended to call Darren from Advance Tree Service. He came out, and gave me a full assessment of my trees. They all got a clean bill of health, told us how to remove some of the roots...and how best to water and take care of the trees we have. The professionalism of the team came to remove our trees was outstanding! They were efficient, minimal disturbance, and cleaned everything before they left! We have been getting one load of free chips from this company each year for the past 4 years. Their chips were from healthy trees and in smaller sizes compared with others we had before. Because of the California drought, many trees are suffering and dying. My very large cottonwood was one of the fatalities. Advance Tree Service cut the wood into firewood, chipped the remainder so that I could add it as mulch to my garden, and left the area clean without any damage to surrounding landscapes. Advance Tree Service was scheduled to remove one dead tree in my yard. About an hour before they were scheduled to begin, they emailed me a cancellation notice. They didn't call, they emailed and I didn't see it for a couple hours. I called, they offered no real explanation but I told them I'd like to reschedule. That was over a month ago and I never heard back. They are, based on my experience, very unprofessional and certainly not to be trusted. Take your business elsewhere would be my advice. read more

We had Advance, and two other well-known tree service companies, bid on annual view clearance and tree maintenance on our large property. Not only were they the lowest bidders, but Darren, the owner, was friendly, conscientious and helpful with advice when he came out to make the estimate. The crew that did the work was led by Jim, who was also friendly and conscientious, as were the other two crew members. Although I was at first apprehensive about Jim doing the aesthetic pruning on our Japanese maples (Darren was slated to do them), he did a great job. We worked with the crew very well and they did a thorough cleanup after the work. We couldn't have asked for anything more and I'd highly recommend them to others. read more

We had a huge tree growing between the neighbors shed & fence. Right in the middle of a densely populated area. Tree had to come down since the roots ruined the fence & our cement patio. Got several estimates (one guy said it would take 2 days) These guys did an incredible job in less than 4 hours at a very reasonable price. Got here before schedule & went right to work. Owner stopped by to make sure all was well. Still can't believe they got it all down without damaging anything. Like the previous review, the neighbors came out and said they were just amazing. The owner (Darren) showed up on time for the estimate and provided guidance on how he would trim the trees. The estimate for the work (numerous trees - of different types) was beyond reasonable. We immediately called to book the appointment. Advance Tree called prior to the appointment to provide a window of time - for the arrival of the crew. The crew showed up on time, introduced themselves and went straight to work. The trees look amazing! They did a fantastic job. The crew then cleaned everything up. We have several large trees in our back yard, and one was hanging over the house. Darren and his crew trimmed it back so beautifully you could hardly tell. My neighbor hired Advance Tree Service. Without asking permission, they decided to prune my hedge. They pruned well beyond the property line and well below the top of my fence, effectively butchering my hedge that used to provide an attractive privacy screen. It will take years for the plants to recover and grow back to their original height. Advance Tree Service has shown no remorse or interest in making this right. I called to get a status on when he'd get an estimate to me, left a message, and no return call. In this case, two strikes and you are out. Advance Tree is the way to go!! I called to make an appointment for an estimate and Darren, the owner came out the very next day. He showed up on time and was confident the work could be completed in a timely manner. After getting 10+ estimates from competitors in the area Advance Tree gave us the best price and was the most thourough in explaining the work and tree trimming details. I'm very happy we chose Advance because the crew was able to complete our project 3 days after our consultation/estimate. Now looking at the work we are very pleased with the attention to detail, level of professionalism and the crews ability to really work with us understanding our needs and answering questions as they worked. We were left with 2 beautifully trimmed trees and a clean yard. Advance also does landscaping which Darren walked us through during our tree consult. He had fresh ideas that were really geared towards meeting our needs and the needs of the area based on existing tree and plant life. We have used Advance Tree Service for many years to work on our large trees as needed. Recently, a major branch cracked and broke off of our giant willow tree in the backyard. Darren was out of town, but I waited for him to return for an estimate. In the meantime, I solicited a bid from another major tree service. Sure enough, Darren's estimate was superior, saving us hundreds of dollars over the competing company. While it took a while to have the work done (all home repair and landscaping companies seem to be flooded with work this summer), it was done with great professionalism and care. Darren is an arborist and gives excellent views on the health of trees. I cannot recommend Advance Tree highly enough. read more
