Strong winds required tree removal. Done well!
Craig M.

Strong winds this weekend felled numerous trees in the Oakland Hills. Large pine fell onto the house. Juan and his crew came by the same day I called, gave me a fair estimate and went to work! Job completed in a day and well done.

Branches and debris left ontop of our shed...notice how tree is completely gone

Our neighbors hired these guys to cut a tree in their backyard... This tree was right on the fence, a large portion of the tree branches coming over to our side and what not...we have a large gazebo swan canopy (just purchased and put up maybe a week or two ago--brand new and cost 243$ on Amazon) that was near the fence by that tree they were cutting down... they left our side of the yard filled with sticks and branches all over the ground...an exceptionally large pile of sticks and debris on top of our shed (shed is almost directly beneath the tree they were cutting)...damaged part of our fence and damaged our canopy beyond repair.. I took photos the same day this happened...and im so glad i did We called the business owner to clear the matter up. He agreed to come by and check out the damage.... While inspecting the damage, he felt that the tree branch couldnt have fallen onto the canopy, since the tree was closer to the shed than the canopy gazebo---- mind you this was a giant tree with long branches expanding past the area of the trunk and denied that the damage to the fence was from his workers the business owner said he was going to talk to his workers and asked for a few days to resolve the issue... More then a few days went by and no response from the owner....We had to call him, again. After he finally answered.... Juan ultimately agreed to pay for the damage and stated he would stop by after work in a fewfays***based on his tone and attitude, you could tell he was not happy-which is fair, cuz it sucks when your employee damage property and you as the business owner have to take care of it, but you do atleast get to write off the expense at the end of the year when you do your taxes*** He eventually did drop off the check, but we did have to call him back and forth for over a week about it to ensure it would be resolved Im happy they did the right thing and paid for the damage but we wont be hiring them anytime soom

We hired Juan's company to remove a large redwood tree in my neighbor's back yard. The tree was on the fence line, with about 15' feet of clearance, on either side, to the two houses. The neighbor insisted that we hire a licensed and insured contractor, which Juan is. Given the difficulty and risks involved in removing this large tree in a tight spot, I would never have hired an unlicensed company. Juan's bid was very reasonable, especially compared to a couple of other big, established companies I had bid the job. The work was scheduled and completed within a week of my getting the bid. The crew was very professional, and super conscientious. The stump grinding and overall cleanup was excellent. Our solar panels are now safe, and we've added a lot of value to the neighbor's property. I will hire Juan's Landscaping and Tree Service to work on our other neighbor's redwoods (curse the developer who planted redwoods in backyards!)

Juan is the nicest and honest man I have met. after having many companies come give me estimates. He was the only one who gave me his honest opinions that were in my benefit. He gave me options and suggestions that made my property look like a brand new home. His design ideas are amazing. He stands by his work and he made sure I was happy with the overall project. I recommend him 1000%. After the amazing curb appeal his work gave my home many of my neighbors are getting estimates from him for their remodels aswe

Juan was great to work with and quoted the job at a reasonable price. Hired his team to bring down my 80 foot redwood tree. Very professional and efficient crew. They did an amazing job with my tree. The tree was cut swiftly and with precision. Experienced crew tended to stumps, cuts and pieces of the tree I wanted to preserve. Great customer service. Exceeded my expectations in all areas and they did a great job with clean up.

Juan came last week to give an estimate on removing some trees and he suggested pruning a large tree. It seemed like a fair estimate, so we called and he scheduled it for the following day. The crew was right on time, were nice and helpful, knew what they were doing, removed the trees and went beyond our expectations on the pruning. They cleaned up well and it was a very good, quick experience.

Reached out to Duane on a Sunday after watching coverage upon coverage of fallen trees and land…read moreslides. Situation: There was a 3 1/2 to 4-story pine tree in the backyard, sitting on a downward slope towards the house. If it were to fall, then my house would be an inhabitable shack. There was also a tree out front with a hole at the split, clearly diseased and ready to go. Responsiveness: Duane responded within the hour of my Yelp inquiry and was able to come out the. very. next. day!! In-person estimate: Duane took the time to examine both trees, walk the yard perimeter, and even looked at a leaning redwood that was not in scope but leaning towards a power line. He was extremely patient as I asked a million questions since this is my first time taking down a tree that size. Price: Duane was competitive and transparent about his pricing. I had 4 others come out if that helps to put things in perspective. License: When I asked for proof of insurance, he provided them quickly so I can make an informed decision. For a job like mine, where people are scaling trees, I had to verify there's liability and workers comp coverage. Trust me when I say that just a license number on a business card is not enough... Service: amazing! Brian and crew showed up on time, ready to go. Throughout the day, the team was extremely communicative about their progress. I live on a hill with public easement and they were responsive when I asked them to move trucks so my neighbor could get through. They worked so swiftly that my yard was cleaned up and set up back to normal in no time! They even helped me salvage and move a few big pieces to the front of the house as memorabilia! Overall, would highly highly recommend!!

"They trimmed up to 20 feet. Looks awful." (property management board member)…read more"That tree trimming is not good." (a professional tree trimmer) Why are these people expressing negative opinions about New Life Tree's (NLT) work trimming our fir trees? A) The NLT Owner, Duane, Misinterpreted my instructions and made Incorrect Assumptions B) The NLT Foreman was incapable of Following Directions, Giving Directions and Leading Below are the Details - Owner Misinterpreted instructions and made Incorrect Assumptions Duane, the owner, showed up shortly after his crew of approximately ten men arrived. I carefully explained that I wanted our fir trees trimmed so the branches would be ten feet above the ground. He interpreted that to mean we wanted the branches trimmed ten feet higher than their current level, which he thought was too high. Did he ask for clarification? NO! Instead he just said "Okay", and then later told his crew to cut the branches right at the trunk three to five feet above their existing height. Inexplicably, some of his crew trimmed our branches more than nine feet higher! The result: the lower parts of our fir trees are completely bare, in some cases close to twenty feet above the ground! Another board member asked in exasperation, "Why did they trim the trees so high?!" - The Foreman was Incapable of Following Directions, Giving Directions and Leading The next day I tried to correct the above mistake with the few remaining untrimmed fir trees at the back of the property. I told the Foreman to trim branches up to ten feet or three meters off the ground. He nodded and said okay, then started cutting a branch as high as he could reach - about 17 feet up! Later that day I spent ten minutes explaining I wanted certain fir trees trimmed five feet from the buildings, as measured both horizontally and vertically. "Think of it like a five foot stick", I explained, "if one end of the stick is touching the building and the other can touch the branches, trim to that point BUT NO FURTHER." The Foreman then talked to a young crewmember, relaying the instructions in Spanish. (both men could communicate with me in English). I asked them if they had any questions; they said no. I stated if anything came up or they needed any clarification to please see me. When I came outside 90 minutes later, I could not believe my eyes. On several of our fir trees, they cut branches off one side up to sixty feet in height, far above the roofs of our buildings. I was shocked! When I demanded an answer from the Foreman, he blamed his counterpart, saying the younger coworker thought the trees should be trimmed well above the buildings. "Why didn't you come get me to clarify my instructions!!" I demanded. He just shrugged. Now those fir trees look imbalanced, noticeably sheared off one side and naturally spread out on the other. I do agree with the board president on this point: they charge reasonable rates and did a decent job trimming / thinning our deciduous (leafy) trees. However, I never want to hire New Life Tree again; the pain of seeing the branches of our majestic 35 year old fir trees chopped beyond our specifications is too much.
