James came out and gave us an estimate on tree trimming. The crew came out and did a fabulous job going above and beyond to reach all of the dead limbs in our huge oaks. Do not use this company. They bid the lowest of 3 bids, and that was our mistake to go with them. Rich and his team of 3 were over their heads and admitted they were unable to complete the work, essentially blaming me for not having the tree trimmed sooner. About 1/3 of the redwood tree was trimmed before they gave up and the shoots at the base were not completely cut back. There is a large hole where too much was cut. He had excuses for everything. Rich became very defensive when we asked him to lower the price since they were unable to complete the work in his estimate. After much discussion he agreed to $200 off of the $2,400 bill. His workers left saws strewn about and trash in the yard overnight, and left the trash when they were done. Rich was insulting and very difficult. read more

Had them come and look at a large tree I need taken out of my back yard. The guy was 20 minutes late. But is was on of the hottest days of the year and I understand that one needs to move a bit slower on a day like this. He took a look at the tree gave me a reasonable price I agreed to it and "okayed" it. He told me Hans would call me next week. Hans never called and I have since call and left 3 messages asking to schedule the work. Still have not heard back from them. read more

A few months ago I had 2 big oaks, a huge deodar cedar and a tall plum tree thinned and 2 dying black walnut trees and some dead fruit trees removed. I was really pleased with the look of the oaks when they were finished - beautiful! They also did a great job grinding out the stumps of the trees that were removed and cleaned up everything nicely. What can I say... these guys were great! Coastal Tree Service came to help us remove a lot of brush and trim some trees to improve the view for our neighbors. Although reluctant to trim too much from the trees these guys did an excellent job finding a balance to achieve the view for our neighbors while preserving the healthy look of our trees. Rich and his crew were amazing and enjoyable to work with from start to finish. I would recommend this service to anyone. In fact I already did as my neighbor needs their help as well. We have a 120 foot coastal redwood tree just 15 feet from our living room window. For the first 15 years that we owned our home we largely ignored the tree. Bad idea.. After a branch fell on our house and another one on our neighbor's car, we could no longer keep our heads in the sand. We found Hans in 2003. Now we have him or his crew climb the tree every couple years to "thin the sail" and remove overweight branches and deadwood. Today they brought down two large dead branches that were hanging precariously over our house and driveway. Both Hans and his foreman, Rich, are experts in what they do and provide great service at reasonable prices. In addition, Hans is not only a State Licensed Contractor but he is also a Certified Arborist -- which gives me added confidence in his work. I had some overgrown trees that had been neglected by me for a decade. Plus I had 2 trees that i thought were dying. Hans Waller the owner came by and told me how to water and fertilize the 2 trees. I also had them trim several trees on my property. They did all the work in a day, were on time and very neat, and the price was reasonable. The 2 sick trees now look healthy with much new growth. I had Coastal Tree Service cut some large branches off of a tree that overhung my roof and driveway; cut down a dead birch tree; and remove some ivy from a palm tree. After cancelling the initial appointment, they did show up at the end of October 2017 to perform the work. They completed the work over one and half days. Their work was satisfactory. However, in the process of cutting down one of the branches, they cracked a piece off of one of our cinder blocks that run along our driveway. Initially, Hans said that he would take care of replacing the cracked cinder block. I trusted him and full payment was made for the his tree cutting work. After 2 weeks had passed, he claimed that he was having a difficult time finding someone to replace it. He also told me that he wanted to appeal to my sense of fairness because he had underbid the cost to remove the ivy from the palm tree. I tried to be fair about it and told him that I would pay for the cost of the work IF he found a contractor to do the work. I did not hear for him for weeks, nor did he respond to my communications. Ultimately, I gave him until December 15, 2017 to send me a $150. to cover the cost of the repairs (I had texted him a quote from a contractor). He never responded, nor did he send a check. I would recommend to anyone that uses Coastal Tree Service to INSIST on being added on to their Commercial General Liability Insurance as the certificate holder and as an ADDITIONAL INSURED. It is important to protect yourself IF they do significant damage to your property. read more

Hans and the Coastal Tree crew did an excellent job pollarding a large tree outside our building. He stayed friendly and professional during our price negotiation and made quick work of our out-of-control tree. The clean up was quite good and our office staff loves all the sunlight we now have every morning. We will happily use Coastal again. read more

Outstanding work. I had a pretty big job; about 100 feet of 30-year-old junipers that had grown up to 12 feet wide and over 6 feet high. Rich and the crew just got in there and did it.
