We have found it quite challenging to find outdoor dining in NW Washington in January, for some reason, so we were excited to check out Adrift in Anacortes. They have a small outdoor area that will accommodate three groups of up to four, with two tower heaters. With the wind blowing a bit, they closed three sides; at about 45* outside, it was cool but not uncomfortable in the shelter. And the food was great! My wife got the crab cakes appetizer, which was stuffed full of crab. She would have preferred it to be a bit more toasty on the outside, but that may have been impacted by the cool temperatures. I got the Crab Au Gratin, which was decadently delightful. Our friends got the Clementine; judging by how clean their plates were when they finished, they loved them. Since we were kinda celebrating getting together, we splurged on desert. We shared an ice cream pie, which was just so darn good. They got the Daver, which also was delicious. Our server was Jason, who is also one of the owners. Great service, we really appreciated him. So happy they made it through these tough times, and we can't wait to return. read more

We stopped in on a Friday afternoon and it wasn't very busy which was nice. There are a couple patio seats so we chose to sit outside. Our server greeted us quickly and was efficient. I had the Dungeness crab cakes (appetizer) and I really enjoyed them. You can choose 1,2 or 3 cakes and two was enough where I was full but not stuffed. The aoli was nice as well. My husband had the Skagit burger and he said the burger itself was delicious, but the fries were lacking. They had a lot of herbs but not a ton of seasoning which I think was what happened. Overall it was a nice little spot for lunch and I'd come back to try other items. read more

It took a while for our order to be taken and we almost left. Thankfully we didn't. Our order consisted of the crab cakes and the cioppino. Wow was it good. I can't even describe how the flavors melded together to make a wonderful meal. So why only 4 stars when 5 is appropriate? The service was slow and disorganized. But the food is awesome. read more

I can't say enough how wonderful this restaurant is. From the food to the service I have found myself holding other places to this standard since experiencing a wonderful dinner at Adrift. My husband and I came here for our 10 year anniversary dinner, we were staying at a bed and breakfast down the road (The Nantucket Inn) and the owner gave this place rave reviews. We had high expectations based on the suggestions and not only were we not disappointed everything exceeded our expectations. Let's talk about the cioppino first. Wow. The freshest seafood I have experienced and I have lived on the sound my whole life. Everything was cooked exquisitely and the whole dish a depth of flavor that makes me mention it on a regular basis now. The crab cakes that we had for an appetizer were cooked perfectly, delicious and fresh, my husbands salmon dish the same. Now let's talk about service, the best!!!! They helped me pick the perfect wine by offering suggestions and bringing tastings and landing on the perfect wine to go with my meal. The wait staff was phenomenal. The restaurant itself is clean, and well maintained and we left satisfied and wanting more. We will be back, over and over again. Thank you Adrift for making our anniversary just perfect! read more

Hubby and I ordered the fish tacos and the garlic Brie burger. The portion was just right and the taste of both entrees were fabulous! We decided to have dessert and quickly chose the key lime tartlet and the Lopez Island Creamery Pier Pie- WOW to both! Staff were friendly and accommodating, especially since the place was busy because of the art festival. We chose the outdoor seating and enjoyed the great weather. Will come again. read more

I'm not sure why this is the highest rated restaurant in town. It wasn't that crowded and we had to wait forever to get our menu and water... and then even longer to get our drinks and order taken. We had a terrible table location right next to the where the food was picked up. There was so much traffic around our table that we had to yell at each other to have a conversation... Also, the food was not up to the standards we expected. We'll give it another try next time we're in town. Hopefully things will get better. read more

Good burgers, but a little expensive. Not much for lunch "seafood", unless you want to buy a dinner entre. And no clam chowder. Service was slow even though it wasn't busy read more

I base a lot of my review on first impressions, but I do know that Washington has been slower on openings than other states, and adjusting to the rush of folks wanting to eat out is overwhelming. Saying that, I was still not hugely impressed with Adrift. I had to make a reservation and only one was available for that evening. If you want reservations, definitely call ahead. When I got to the restaurant, every staff member rushed back and forth ignoring us being there. I had to push my way in front of them to get them to acknowledge me. Then, the reason we went to the restaurant was because of the gluten free options and the Cioppino in particular. When my husband went to order, they said they didn't have it because of the shellfish options. Ironically, on the bottom of the menu, it states that they guarantee shellfish on Fridays and Saturdays. Disappointed again. They did however come back to let us know they'd substitute a few kinds of fish, which did taste great. My husband and I were thoroughly impressed with the taste. The waitress did forget the gf bread, so she served it super late in the meal. That was really good. Tasted like real bread. We ordered the dungeness crab au gratin, and that was fantastic. Beware of shells though! I bit a few. And lastly, I ordered the shrimp tacos, and they were overly bean filled, too salty, and just nothing special. I was quite disappointed. My husband thought they were okay. Overall impression- I go out to dinner for the service and food. Service was subpar and the food was okay. I would go back for the appetizer only. read more

This restaurant is a must when in anacortes. The crab cake is a must and the sauce for it is divine. We got the baked salmon and the salmon with poblano sauce. Both delicious and great portions! read more

We went here when the ferry was delayed. What a treat! We were able to sit with our dogs outside with heat lamps. Every dish we got was terrific, but ciopinno and tacos were real stand outs read more

Wow this place has delicious food! We had fish tacos, side of kale and and seafood cioppino. The food was flavorful and fresh.

We explored Anacortes today and decided to eat lunch at Adrift. We walked in at about 10:50 and were given breakfast menus, we asked if we could wait to order for lunch, and they got us the lunch menus right away! The food was amazing. There are so many gluten free options and they're very allergen conscious. Our waitress knew what was in their sauces and salsa was well. I ordered the fish tacos with snapper, and they were amazing. My husband had the garlic burger, which included three of his favorite things: garlic, beef, and Brie. He raced about it. The fries were nice too because they were oven baked. Our friends had a tuna sandwich, which she finished every bite of, and the Salish sandwich with salmon. Everyone really enjoyed their food. The service was a little bit slow, but there were only a couple women working, and they were doing a great job. The restaurant is very cute and makes a great use of space. We'll definitely return if we find ourselves in Anacortes at lunch time again! read more

We've been going here since before we moved to PNW (over 5 years). One thing they've been consistent on is the awesome cookies and chocolate sauce. Always do dessert!! I've noticed my oysters have started to drown in their coating with little oyster taste left. They used to be more rounded (as oysters are shaped) and juicy. These are flattened like a pancake and cooked like the chef doesn't eat oysters. I just wanted to eat them again but keep having to pass, as I was reminded why this trip. The kale was cooked simply and delicious with garlic, though I'd rather have the fries than the potato croquette. I've also noticed the fries are half the portion they used to be, though still delicious. The salmon tacos were a much better experience than my previous cod tacos last year. I do love their homemade practices and grass fed beef selection. Service continues to be attentive and down to earth. read more

The tuna sandwich was excellent and we loved the crab and artichoke dip! friendly service

We attended a special event as our first ever visit and we were blown away! They served an awesome tasting menu with wine pairings from a local winery. Adrit restaurant has a great staff, menu and vibe! We loved it and have already been back. It's one of our favorites in Anacortes. read more

Swung by Adrift on our way to Orcas Island and so glad we did. The ambiance is kitschy maritime and done well. Had super friendly and fast service from Joan, and she even gave us some great tips on places to explore in the few hours we had to spare before getting on the ferry. The honey lemonade was delightfully tart and sweet. The Dungeness crab au gratin was so rich and delicious! The herbed oven fries were as good as the garlic aioli that was served with them. I couldn't decide between The Beet Happening salad and the troller tuna sandwich and was especially stoked to find out I could upgrade to a small speciality salad with my sandwich. Perfect! read more

Food and service were EXCELLENT! We were visiting family, so glad they suggested having dinner there. We highly recommend!

Our visit really missed the mark. I would not recommend anything with French fries or their spicy margarita. The pan fried oysters were well prepared. read more

We were on vacation and saw the great reviews and were not disappointed! We also were in a time crunch to make our whale tour and asked them if we could be in and out in an hour and they were super gracious and helpful to get us a table, especially since we were a group of 8 with 4 kids. The environment was fun and it felt like a big part of our day and trip. The food was also delicious. I especially loved my fish tacos. Highly recommend!! read more

Haven't been to Anacortes in awhile. Looked at yelp and saw this place had the best and most reviews. We like to also support local businesses so Anthony's was out. Made a reservation for 6:30pm and called at 4pm it was no problem and super easy. Got there early and was seated right away. Because the other couple joining us hadn't arrived yet we perused the menu. The prices were a little higher than I was expecting. But what I wasn't expecting was how satisfied I was with the quality and taste of the food. My boyfriend and I split an entree, a side of soup and a crab cake. It was all fantastic! I recommend the blackened catfish. If they have beer cheese and broccoli soup get it! It's OUT OF THIS WORLD. The complimentary bread and butter are delicious as well. The crab cake was a sweeter crab cake with more crab then I could ever ask for. Worth every penny and we will be back! read more

Three times in a week, only one dud meal. And so uneventful I can't remember what it was. But in general the service is great, beverages are well priced for Anacortes, and a great mix of people. The food, apart from my one dish is well prepared, presented and tasty. We will be back. read more

I was very impressed with the Dungeness crab entrée. It had a perfect balance of flavors. They placed the crab cakes on raspberry jam. I never would have thought to do that and it was delicious. The mashed potatoes were excellent. The Bloody Mary was also delicious, and I'm not someone who usually enjoys a Bloody Mary. The chocolate coconut mousse was good. If you love chocolate mousse and order it often, you will probably agree that it's not the best you ever had. It was different and interesting though. It wasn't as whipped as I like, but the coconut and candied ginger were tasty, different, and fun. I definitely recommend this restaurant if you find yourself in Anacortes. read more

Came in here very hungry and left a happy guy. Crab cake to start was really good. Hefty amount of crab and excellent sauces with great flavor to go with the crabby crab. May have to do the crab cake entree next time. Cioppino was good. Great herbs and tomato broth, seafood was fresh and done right. Nothing was over cooked. Come with crunchy bread to soak up the goodness. Nice cocktail menu, the spiced old fashioned was excellent. read more

Visiting the area and was very pleased with the awesome food and superb service. Sit at the bar, inside, or outdoors. Best Cioppino I have ever had, amazing broth and a flavor knockout! Succulent mussels, clams, scallops, and fish in a rich tomato reduction that tastes more like a deep red sauce than a broth. The only problem was I forgot to get a pic before laying into it because I was so hooked after the first taste. If I were staying longer, I would eat here a few times, but I am sure it would all be fantastic! read more

We didn't have a reservation so we sat at the bar and had a great visit with the boss. Great friendly folks serving us the whole time. Amazing food. Their bread they bake on site everyday is amazing. It's soft but chewy... magical... I ordered a cup of soup so I can get more bread. The blacked cod I had was the most perfect cod I've ever sitting on a bed of fried baked potato and kale. They are not afraid to use enough garlic. The dessert, Mixed Berry Crisp with ice cream, was amazing, too. Highly recommend making reservations. read more

Great service & atmosphere. Crab cakes were 20/10 (VERY YUMMY!!). Our main dishes were not the best. Grilled cod tacos were very plain & rice noodle stir fri was very heavily saturated with sauces. If I were to go back, I'd get shrimp tacos. The blackened shrimp that we added to our rice noodle was also amazing. read more

Finding unique restaurants is my specialty and Adrift is definitely one of a kind. From the ambience to the menu, there are things here that you won't find elsewhere. The minute we entered we were surrounded with delicious aromas, herbs and warm bread. The dessert case at the front door tempted us with it's contents- Key lime bars, Pumpkin cheesecake bread pudding, cookies and many more decadent sweet treats. We were promptly seated in the century old dining room with it's rustic brick walls and hammered copper tabletops. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. We ordered a variety of entrees. I had the Troller Tuna sandwich with oven roasted home fries. I will admit that I wasn't too happy with my sandwich. The tuna was a bit too fishy tasting and oily for my taste but the fries were excellent. The other diners in my party enjoyed their meals, the only complaint I heard was that one meal was missing the cheese that the menu stated it was supposed to have. I decided to try the Pumpkin Cheesecake Bread Pudding and boy was it good. It came served piping hot with a generous dollop of whipped cream and a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. Yum! Love was definitely the main ingredient of this dessert. Next time I visit Anacortes I will definitely stop here for dessert. read more

This place was recommended by a client I was visiting. I had the cioppino. It was excellent.

Good place in the middle of downtown. Super nice people and great food. Would come back.

I can't say enough how fabulous this restaurant is! The food is always incredible. The service is always exceptional. We spit the French onion soup and it was sizzling hot with rich flavorful broth with creamy rich melted cheese on top. I had the beef tenderloin and it was cooked perfectly, covered with spicy peppercorns, melty sweet perl onions and thinly sliced potato gratin. The sauce underneath was rich and smooth and just the right touch to bring it all together. I highly recommend this dish! My husband had the seared duck breast, again cooked perfectly. It had 4 sauces that as ran your bite through them offered the perfect bite! Another dish not to be missed. Go and enjoy this wonderful restaurant it has to be the best in Anacortes! read more

Awesome as always, great food great staff! Had the crab dip, yum! The Steamers was wonderful, half clams half mussels, lots of focaccia to soak up the juices. If six stars we available I'd leave six. We are in Anacortes on vacation. We wanted one night to have a really nice dinner. It was amazing . We started with a delicious fresh crap cake. Then hubby had Poblano Cream Baked cod filet in a poblano cream sausage with mashed potato croquette and seasonal veggies I chose the Skagit* Burger. Which was a juicy 1/3 lb burger with grass fed, organic beef topped with toasted garlic aioli, pickled and lettuce. Served with oven roasted fries. It was one of the best meals we had in a really long time. The restaurant is small and loud. High ceilings and no acoustics. Be sure to make reservations. The workers were so nice and friendly. Great service. read more

Came here pre Covid and had a spectacular burger, great salad, and wonderful soup, plus terrific desert. Delicious! It's a themed restaurant with great food and perfect portions. The portions are just right and perfect even for the kids menu. There will definitely be no leftovers! The waitstaff are informative and friendly. Coming back to Anacortes for this for sure. The sauce that comes with the pork chop entree is so delicious, although I do think the pork chop can be a little less dry. The Dungeness crab entree was spiced well and it tasted so good with their chicaoji sauce that they have when you ask for hot sauce. read more

We had one night to have dinner in Anacortes, WA. A local resident recommended Adrift Restaurant so off we went. Located right downtown, unfortunately not on the water, the ambiance is nautical. Not quite overdone but really close. There's just so much you can do with sailor's knots and the maritime theme. Overall, clean and welcoming though. Adrift is a breakfast/lunch/dinner place and from other reviews they seem to do it all well. We were there for dinner. No reservation but by the time we left, there was a wait. Our waitress was nice but we felt a little rushed. She probably knew what was coming when they got busier. She took our order and brought out our wine right away. It did take a little more time than usual to get our meal. We each started with a Steamed Artichoke ($8): steamed whole, then grilled with butter, served with a curry aioli for dipping. Pretty sure it wasn't a California artichoke but it was tasty. My husband had the Cioppino ($29): fresh fish and shellfish delicately poached in a rich broth of tomato, white wine, saffron, fennel and aromatic vegetables. Served with a toasted baguette and cilantro chili aioli. Seafood is a no-brainer in the PNW! I had the baked salmon ($27): local, wild salmon baked with sun dried tomato aioli and Parmesan-Reggiano. Served with herbed risotto and seasonal vegetables. Very good choice. My first time ever in Anacortes, such a cute little place. Would like to explore the food scene more. Definitely will be back to try more restaurants. Adrift was a good first start. read more

Yelp reminded me the other day that I only uploaded a photo and didn't write a review. My bad! Yum! Adrift was amazing! 4 stars because customer service wasn't that great and the way the restaurant is setup there's not much privacy. Like you feel like you're sitting with everyone in the restaurant. We got oysters on the half shell to share, my now ex got the steamed clams, and I got the clementine burger. I have no idea why they call it that but it was one of the most amazing burgers I've ever had. My fellow Yelpers did not let me down with that recommendation! The garlic fries were to die for! We were eating roasted garlic off my plate lol. Oh and the water has lemon AND lime in it! It was delicious! I would definitely go again, should I ever find myself in Anacortes in the future. read more
