Came up here to have a memorial/celebrate my grandmothers birthday who recently passed away. She loved Anacortes, so in her honor we went and checked out Adrift! We are very happy we chose this spot. First, the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. There are books and shelves everywhere with art relating to the sea. It is incredibly relaxing to be in. Secondly, the food was amazing and they had a huge selection of vegan and gluten free options. We were super impressed. We got the grilled artichoke to start with salads, and then amazing vegan tacos. All their food is amazing here. We will definitely back next February!!! Thanks for the great experience! read more

Based on the reviews here, I guess I went to a different Adrift. The food was ok, nothing special. The service was polite, but incompetent. We had to ask for everything twice, and only some things actually arrived. Despite Adrift's reputation for oysters (Taylor shellfish farm), the server had no idea what type of oysters were available. This actually turned out to be fairly accurate, as they were out of fresh oysters anyway. Perhaps Adrift is an apt name... This place needs to anchor and get their bearings. read more

We went after searching for vegan options in Anacortes. This may or may not be the most vegan-friendly place in the area, but we did not agree with other reviews claiming that they have tons of vegan options. They had three regular menu choices you could make vegan by subbing tofu and/or leaving off certain ingredients, plus salads which you could veganize if you left off all the cheeses and swapped in the one vegan dressing. Nevertheless, everything was tasty. I got the BLAST (a fancy BLT) and it came on good sourdough bread, had ripe avocado, and the tofu was well-prepared. The fries were greasy but well seasoned with rosemary. My partner got the beet salad, which he enjoyed, but the menu boasted smoked beets and these sure tasted like regular pickled beets. The service was excellent and our server was very knowledgeable about how to make our choices vegan-friendly. My only complaint is that the upcharge for adding tofu was outrageous--$5 to add tofu when adding bacon was only $2. I ordered a sandwich so that $5 bought me literally one slice of tofu. It was good, but it wasn't "$15 sandwich" good. Their vegan chocolate mousse dessert was super fudgy and came topped with candied ginger and toasted coconut flakes. Overall a decent choice for vegans but definitely intended for the meat & seafood crowd. read more

The best restaurant in Anacortes. You will get a consistently good meal here with good service. Fresh ingredients, locally sourced at a fair price. The soups are my favorite, and the fresh seafood is always top notch. The croquettes are great too. read more

Definitely a fan although I must caveat that I'm a fan of what I almost always order -- the Tugboat Burger. Adrift tends to be busy. Very busy. And I've had to wait for seating all but once. That said, but for only one time my service has always been friendly and flowing. And they're very good about accommodating swaps such as salad instead of fries, etc. I have some friends who come here for breakfast as their first preference. Definitely one of the best quality eating establishments I've found in Anacortes and IMO definitely better all-around than Anthony's (save for Anthony's waterfront location). PS: Be sure to ask them to tell you about the sail separators that are used between tables. read more

Well what can I say I def have found a great place. we stopped for lunch . our server was very nice and informative. Jim had a breakfast sandwich which was excellent and I had Yaki Soba Noodles which was amazing the flavors were right on. I will definitely come back next time I'm in town read more

Amazing service and great food. The snapper fish tacos were absolutely the best tacos I've ever had. Will be coming back for sure! We had a party of seven and the waitress did not miss up on one single thing. All items came out in a timely manner and all of us were 100% amazed with their food! read more

I didn't care for the hostess. She had a bit of a stick up attitude that didn't seem to fit the sleepy small town and eccentric eatery. But I tried to not let it get to me and brushed it aside. Crab cakes. Period. Probably one of the best crab cakes I have ever gotten. It was delicious! I can't even remember what I got for an entree. Oh yeah, I got the poached halibut tacos. Usually I hate mango salsa but it was light and refreshing. The bread pudding dessert was pretty good although ours was as cold in the bottom/center but the outer crust was delicious. The blueberry ice cream... fabulous. Tons of blueberries. The salted sailor cookie was too sweet. Cloying. And almost tasted and looked raw in the center. The peanut butter cookie was too dense for us. Overall, we loved it there. Somewhat pricey but we were on vacation. I'd say it's pretty rare for me to give 5 stars to a place where the hostess (who is the face of the establishment) is rude, but the food was definitely well deserving of 5 stars. Can't wait to go back someday! read more

The service and the food were amazing!! The woman (who I assume was the manager or owner) greeted us and was soooo sweet! Our server kaya was great too! My fiancé said the burger was one of the best he's ever had and I had the fish tacos. So yummy! Definitely recommend :) read more

Adrift - Seafood Near Me - Anacortes, Washington

Quaint little restaurant! The place is half cafe/diner, half regular dining and they strategically make you walk through the cafe door where you get smacked in the face with a display of berry crisps, bread pudding, and other dessert goodies. I came in for an early dinner but all I could think about was dessert time. Ambience: the cafe is an old school diner feel minus the greasy, cigarette smoking waitress. The restaurant itself is an older establishment with copper table tops, booths with built in bookshelves, and random books scattered about. You get a nostalgic old bookstore/brick coffee shop vibe in a restaurant setting. Very cute place for a date Food: I love a good Reuben and this one was delicious and they don't smother it in thousand island so if you prefer that, ask for it. The meat was juicy and the bread was very tasty. Oysters on the half shell were fresh and came with a flavorful mignonette. Dungeness crab cakes. Not the best but still tasty. Could've used a little crispness on the outside. The sauces on top and bottom worked very well though. Berry crisp with ice cream was a perfect ending. Perfectly baked with a slight undertone of berry tartness. Don't contemplate, just get it. Perfect portion for 2. Service: all the staff was very welcoming and friendly as if we were regulars. read more

So yum! We had the blackened salmon and tacos one night and everything was We went back the next day and ordered the mahi mahi blackened. We were in a rush for dinner and the order was wrong and thus we got baked mahi mahi instead; the meal was comped and the quality of food was great regardless and service was excellent; server was very sweet & pleasant, great smile and sense of style! (They offered to re-make our dinner we were just in a hurry!) Would go back and send our friends there! read more

If rating just for the food and atmosphere Adrift is deserving of all 5 stars. Unfortunately on our visit we waited around for both our drink orders and food orders to be taken and it was difficult to get a server's attention during our meal. For this reason I have to give them a 4 but the experience was very charming and the food was delicious. A friend and I split the Skagit burger and two crab cakes. Prices are a bit steep but I think the quality and taste are worth the price. The crab cake was one of the best I've had. They were spendy at $13.50 for 2 small cakes. There were hunks of crab meat in the cakes as there should be at that price. If ordering the crab cakes get something to go with them. The cakes are small and even two will not fill you up. Splitting the burger and crab cakes was more than enough for two people! The burger was absolutely delicious. The standard is medium for the burger so if you want it cooked more, speak up. We got medium and I would have preferred medium-well I think. The rosemary fries were just ok. They were a bit limp and I only had a few. I had a pint of the Titan Apricot Cider which was very good. The cider was $6/pint. I was very impressed with the crab cakes and the burger. I had a bite of a friend's biscuits and gravy and it was very good. Adrift seems like a popular place. If they were a bit more attentive with the service I would have given them all 5 stars, no question. I highly recommend them for a meal if in the area! There was plenty of parking on the street. read more

After reading so many glowing reviews, my parents and I had been wanting to try this place for a long long time. We finally went and we were not at all impressed, to say the least. The inside of the place was hot and stuffy so we sat in the very small outside seating area. My parents each ordered the crab au gratin and I ordered the tuna sandwich hot with melted cheese. CUT TO: An hour later. No food. My dad went inside to make sure they hadn't forgotten about us. The waitress apologized and said the cooks sometimes do the hard orders first and leave the easy ones for last. WHAT? Why would you not cook the food in the order it was received? Also, what's a "hard" order? That does not make sense at all. If that's the case, they should put on the menu: "If you would like to have your food in a timely manner, order something complicated." The server finally brought the food out saying, "It was a long wait, but I promise you it was worth it! This is going to be delicious!!" Well, it wasn't. The tuna sandwich was bland and there was no cheese on it. Just hot tuna mixed with onion on toasted bread. My parents didn't mind their food but it certainly was not worth an hour wait. We were really hoping this would be our new lunch spot. The server was very nice and apologetic and they comped us one of the crab au gratins and two drinks. I can't remember the last time I left a restaurant saying, "Well, I'm never eating there again!" Man, what a bummer. read more

The food is roughly 4 stars. But not 5. The fish tacos I had were fresh, basic and very good. Loved the chipolte mayonnaise that came with them A star comes off for the pricing which is excessively high for what you actually get. The $10.00 main menu grilled cheese sandwich would be an example of this. The service was "local". What I mean by this, is that I really dislike being treated like a tourist. Adrift ran out of Red Snapper for my fish tacos. They suggested I sub Halibut. No problem, until my bill arrived and then Adrift suddenly wanted to charge me an additional $4.00 for the halibut substitution. The menu didn't state the add and our waitress didn't mention the potential upcharge at the time either. After mentioning the added charge on our bill, our waitress noted that is what it cost them to serve it to me. Then she actually told me " No one has complained about this before." To put it mildly, I remained resolute, as I don't mind being the first. In fairness to the waitress, after she left and came back, she had removed the extra charge and made it a point to say that she hoped the pricing issue did not ruin my dining experience at Adrift. And she was genuinely nice about it. But the damage was already proverbially done. I think it is worth it for people to at least try Adrift, as long as they exercise caution going in. It obviously would have been a better experience for us if Adrift addressed my legitimate concern the first time around.... without trying to make me feel bad that I raised the issue in the first place. Sidebar: Just an opinion... but if Adrift is out of something on their menu, it is their responsibility to make it right (same price) with what they do have on-hand. They shouldn't have tried to pass along the extra charge to the customer anyway. read more

In Anacortes with the mister visiting a friend (and a couple of her *terrific* friends.) We had reservations at Adrift for 8:30, but due to a carsick pooch I was running behind the whole day... picked up the mister late in Seattle, which resulted in arriving late in Anacortes, which, well, you get the picture. So we got to the place a little late. What was weird though, was that we sat for a really long time before anyone came over to ask about drinks. The server was very apologetic when she did come by, but it was definitely long enough for us (five total) to wonder about if we were being punished for tardiness. Oh well. Nice (and somewhat surprising) wine list, and really good food! Mister and I split a pound of mussels and clams in a terrifically spicy broth pot (possibly with a bit of saffron?) that was so much more interesting than the usual garlic/butter/white wine reduction steam. Unfortunately the bread that was brought with this was pretty crumbly and dry and didn't exactly 'sop.' Then, we're more about the dish itself, so no biggie. We split the baked fish (they were out of snapper, so went with the halibut) served with soft polenta and broccolini. All very good... halibut came with an interesting sun dried tomato sauce/paste on top, and the polenta was nice, if a little bland. That said, who wants an overwhelming side with something as sublime as well-done halibut? Do I sound slightly ambivalent? Adrift is really, very good, particularly for a town the size of Anacortes. Maybe another visit would push this into five stars, or maybe I'm spoiled by Portland, but I'm just not there yet. Oh yeah, local, fresh, organic, blah blah blah. :) read more

Stopped by here for dinner on our way to Guemes Island. I'll make this review short but will be pretty descriptive: PROS: really good service. Our server paid attention to us, he was quick, he refilled out waters often which was awesome, he described the food really well and recommended his favorites. The restaurant is also really cute and has a nice ocean vibe to it. My husband actually really liked his food. He got some kind of breaded oysters that were fried. CONS: the food was very mediocre, I got the steak which was my fault. I should know better not to get a steak at a seafood place. The steak was chewy and the sauce that was on it was really strange, i dont even know how to describe it. Just didnt pair well with the steak. The potatoes that came with the steak were CRAZY dry...im not even exaggerating.. My husband also had the side of potatoes and couldnt finish them. The table arrangement was a little awkward because of the divider. You are sitting very close to other guests and the divider doesn't really help much at all. I could see people looking at me while i was eating which made me feel weird but it probably won't bother others. Overall, wouldn't go back because of the food. Just wasn't that great. read more

Great choice in Anacortes albeit you don't have many options. Service was fast and food was good.

On the way back from Canada we decided to venture out to Anacortes for lunch. Sunday afternoon, we looked on yelp to see what had the best reviews and we came across Adrift. Completely oblivious to the time (or the fact that they close at 2pm on Sundays) we came in about 1:50pm. Not once did we feel unwelcome or rushed, actually we didn't even know they were closing up until we were leaving! The customer service is great and our waitress, Tasha, was very friendly and on top of things and had great recommendations. The place is a little pricey, but once you get your food it is worth the price. We ordered a burger with fries, tuna melt with fries, and catfish burger (lettuce wrapped, no bun) with salad. For dessert we shared the crème brulèe. The burger was good large quality meat. The tuna melt had a good flavor. The catfish was delicious and well prepared. read more

This place had great reviews so we were eager to try it out. The wait was only about 10 minutes and everyone leading up to our table was great. Then we met our server. Service - She was....not very nice. I understand dry humor and a little tease, but this woman was so rude that it was very off putting. She didn't smile once. I asked her what the top ordered items were (that's how I make my decision) and she said "I can't help you that - that's too vague." Then walked away. I finally decided on something and she gave me this whole commentary about why I would like it. At the end of the meal, she went to take our plates (which were half finished) and I asked if she could box them up. She said "you can box your own". Then at dessert she didn't give us our spoon until we said "thank you." It was a bizarre experience to say the least. I feel like a good server makes the food taste better..in some places. Food - I got the salmon and it was ok - a little fishy and the risotto had zero flavor. All in all we paid around $75 (for 2 entrees, 1 appetizer and 1 dessert) for a meal that wasn't worth that much. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

A lot of people drive through Anacortes on their way to the San Juan Islands ferries and never stop to check out downtown. To those people I say: fools! You don't know what you've been missing! The historic downtown has your typical 2-block commercial area with cute restored buildings housing shops and restaurants. Among these, though, is a real gem - Adrift. This fantastic little eatery draws me in again and again. The menu here is enough set your mouth watering and make you forget you actually planned to set sail away from this place. As an added bonus, the dishes are chock-full of full of local and organic ingredients, including grass-fed Skagit beef. I've sampled the menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and as is my tendency I have a preference for breakfast (chai oatmeal and fried egg sandwich, yes!). Really, though, you can't go wrong here. At least, I have yet to. Adrift has a warm and eclectic feeling. The decor is a rustic nautical theme, with the occasional buoy, model ship, or net reminding you that you are "adrift" in a seaside town. Works by local artists line the walls. Some of the furniture pieces are lovely creations crafted from solid driftwood. There are a variety of seating options, from pulling up a stool at the bar to sinking into a leather sofa to snagging a small, private corner by the fish tank. A few tables are tucked between bookshelves filled with miscellaneous vintage books encompassing everything from Dick and Jane stories to survivalist manuals. These make great conversation pieces, and if one really strikes your fancy, all books can be purchased for $5 on the spot. If you have a little one with you who's not ready to delve into the reading material, the staff keep some toys handy to entertain the kids. This is definitely a kid-friendly establishment! Oh, and did I mention Adrift hosts live music on weekends? Long story short: great food, great atmosphere, goofy books, live music - what could be better? read more

Ahh... Adrift.... My mind wanders.... JK :) I came here with my parents and despite raving reviews.... I was very disappointed. Not to say that the food wasn't ok... But it was... OK... Lets talk shop :) Service: I totally agree with all the comments on Yelp. The people at this restaurant are really nice and awesome people. Our waitress who I think was either the owner or the owners wife was really nice. She gave us suggestions and chit chatted with my family for a while before we ordered. Food: The food... was ok. Our waitress suggested the fish tacos, which coming from SoCal... we were all really disappointed. The tacos were kind of gringo like with a weird mango salsa (which dont get me wrong mango salsa is normally great) and a weird black bean/black bean paste on the tortilla... It was all very strange. The meat itself was alright but the mix of the toppings didn't mesh well. I order the tomato bisque. Which was good, but the cheese that was used to make the soup tasted a lot like dry kraft Parmesan. The bits were still a little dry and dissatisfying. This was a shame because I kind of liked the soup without the cheese. The eggs benedict was also alright but nothing really fancy to rave about. As for my family, I think they were content... but did not have any interest in visiting again the next time they visit the NW. :( I went back and forth between a 2 and a 3. The food was good but I think I've experienced better. :( Happy eats my friends. Stay hungry. read more

We stopped by Adrift after coming back from Orcas because the reviews were so outstanding. The place is about 5 miles from the ferry which can seem like 20 when ferry traffic is winding off the dock, but its definetely worth it if, and I do mean if, you have the time. We went around 3 and the place was already full from a late lunch crowd on a Friday. The kiddies menu of grilled cheese and other mini meals went over well with the small folks and the bread on my avacado, bacon and tomato sandwich was solid. My girlfriend loved her burger and there were only a couple missteps in my opinion. First, the waitress dumped water on one of our ipads....like a lot of water. There was remarkably no damage, but this is a rookie move. Second, the fries / potato things were seriously undercooked. They were still raw potato color and sort of gross even though so many reviews had raved about them. And finally, be prepared to hunker down because all in all we were there for about an hour and there is no way its gonna get any better when its super busy. On the plus side was a delicious creme brulee, cool menu items you won't see that far outside of Seattle and really fresh ingredients. read more

Absolutely marvelous lunch here today! My wife had the beet salad with buttermilk Gorgonzola dressing and candied pecans plus the crabcakes entrée. We stumbled on an amazing combination. The two dishes complemented each other amazingly well. One of the best crabcakes I have had in my life (and I have had plenty of them all over the country!). The beet salad was fresh and flavorful with lots of different textures and tastes that mingled perfectly. Decore was nautical and whimsical. Well lit and not too noisy. The sailboat sail dividers between the tables for extra privacy were an interesting touch. I highly recommend this high-quality spot here in Anacortes for lunch or dinner. It rivals anything that I've had in much larger cities with none of the aloof arrogant attitude that some of those places can unfortunately exhibit. The waitstaff here were approachable, friendly and knowledgeable. read more

Adrift caught my eye while driving past it in search of a lunch spot on a nice, sunny day. Parked, walked up with my pup and sat at one of the outside tables to give it a try. The waitresses were genuinely sweet and very welcoming of my four-legged boy. I ordered the small biscuits and gravy, my company ordered the BLTA sandwich with fries. Both were phenomenal. I fear that the gravy caused some pain later on, but only because my stomach isn't used to super heavy foods these days. The prices were very reasonable. Good food but a little pricy. Definitely love the seafood they have, especially the steamed clams in different flavors as appetizers. As to the main entry, it's in contemporary style. The flavor is good but a little small portion in my opinion. And the roasted photato was a little too much burned to me and my friend's taste so we left them there. This is by far my favOrite place to dine on a regular basis. Great meat and seafood. Fresh veggies from local farms. Creative menu - changes weekly. Desserts to die for! Yes, we have several good eats in A Town, but Adrift is the place for consistently tasty food with options for those of trying the organic, locally sourced, gluten-free options lifestyle. Food is great. Service was good. Though I ordered the steamed clam basket, it came out mostly mussels. Apparently the server didn't "explain" something. But I got another smaller bowl with all clam, so I was happy. Cocktails cost a little more than we usually pay, but good. No skimp on the booze. To preface: I visited this restaurant several years ago and had a wonderful experience and came back with my partner this week for what I thought would be a great meal. From entering it was clear no one cared we were there. We wandered our way to the hostess stand after everyone working behind the counter glowered at us. She left to seat another table and didn't acknowledge us on her way out. She returned and sat us in the restaurant. Our waitress came and took our order and only came back to check on us after our first bite. My partner ordered the burger, which was fine. The fries were tough and undercooked. My beet salad was also fine, the dressing served in a to-go plastic cup seemed an odd choice. We spent about 5 minutes with empty plates before waiving down someone for our check. Overall service was lazy, food was mediocre, and we left annoyed and I left hungry. read more

Top-notch fresh, local, organic ingredients that could use a little more seasoning. I had sweet potato pork tacos that lacked heat and, despite the salsa and chipotle sour cream that came with it, still wasn't all that flavorful - save the sweet potatoes, which were awesome. My friend had the burger special, and while she forwent the jalapenos that came with it, the bite I took was pretty bland. She concurred. Her burger also came with fries that were coated in an herb blend that was anything but bland - way too strong. Overall, the concept is great, the ingredients are fantastic and the atmosphere and service are good. The dishes certainly aren't bad, they're close to being great, just need a little oomph. read more

This second experience at Adrift makes us think we won't be regulars.Unfortunately, service is uneven. With a dinner reservation for two, we were promptly seated at a nice table. Our order was taken in a reasonable length of time. So far, so good. The food arrived a bit slowly and mine was not what I ordered. The server was apologetic, but it took just as long to get my meal as we had waited in the first place. Since catfish tacos take about five minutes to cook, I can only assume that they have no system to prioritize a replacement for a screw-up. That is inexcusable. The server gave us a free cookie, which really did not compensate for not being able to eat our meals at the same time. In the future, when we're dining in Anacortes we'll likely go someplace with more reliable service. read more

Adrift is by far my favorite restaurant in town. I've never left disappointed. The food is always top notch. Their regular menu is great, but their specials are ALWAYS amazing. I ate here a couple of years back, and thought the food was very, very good. We stopped by on a weekend, and waited about 15 minutes for a table. This meal just didn't work that well for us. We got some fish tacos - they were ok, but a bit bland. I think fish tacos can be tricky to pull, and they certainly were this time. We also got some fries (a bit big and soggy), and a BLT-like sandwich which was well imagined, but not as well executed. I was surprised we didn't enjoy the food more, based on my last visit, and the positive reviews here since then. I'd like to try it again on a future trip to Anacortes - I think the place holds a lot of hope, and imagine we just hit it on a tricky day. read more

So we ended up in Adrift to kill some time before we took the Ferry to Orcas Island. What a fortunate happening! We LOVED Adrift! They have a GREAT restaurant area with interesting, lovely and cool decor. I think I even saw bookshelves in there! And around the bar, they had all these quirky, little things that made the place unique and fun to be at. The service was great and warm! I love when you have nice servers who kindly ask you why are you visiting, and how can they help to make anything better! Also, it was awesome to be able to watch how our food was cooked in the spotless, and oh-so-cool open kitchen. We were there for less than an hour, and split a grilled cheese that was to DIE for. It was a blend of three cheeses, Mozarella, Gorgonzola and Provolone on fresh, sweet basil bread. I think about it and my mouth waters! I had coffee, and got scared when I saw the typical white dinner cup landing in front of me. As y'all know, dinner coffee is awful. But Adrift's coffee was bold and delicious, just honoring the great elixir as most places do in the WA state! Meh. Many people referred this place to me. I finally made it and ordered the crab cakes, a glass of wine, and a cup of soup. The AC was on inside and was really cool. When waitress , Tasha, finally came over and I asked if I could move outside...3pm and very few customers at the time. She rapidly grabbed my menu and silverware as if it were a huge issue. The food was fine. Great? No. Good? Maybe. Nothing to write home about. The waitress seemed as if I were an inconvenience. She was much more friendly to the couple next to me. With my wine glass almost full, she brought my check. Still, with plates on table, she asked if check was ready. Ummmm....what's the rush? It's now 4:10pm and I'm still nursing my wine, with check ready to tip and sign. Aaaahhhhh....as a visitor, in a tourist area, at a non-busy time, I would expect more friendly service. read more
