I grew up getting their fish tacos here and they were absolutely mindblowing. Their recipe changed or something sometime before 2017 because it was good but less flavorful and unique. Tried this restaurant for the first time Friday night. The hostess was a bit short with us. We were a bit early for our reservation and she said No, come back at your scheduled time. They were busy and the restaurant is open so it's quite noisy. All our dishes were incredibly delicious. We had blacken salmon, which was the best I've tasted, a bit spicy. I had the chicken Marsala, good size chicken breast and the mushrooms were delicious, it lacked sauce but overall very tasty. Our friends had baked cod and halibut with risotto, they looked good as well. The service was good but slow. A bit pricey but well worth it. We will be definitely returning. read more

Darlings, why in the world would you ever skip this establishment? Truly, I am struck with love at second sip. Excellent location, superb (friendly/quick/knowledgeable) service and food that will TAKE HOLD OF YOUR SOCKS AND RIP THEM OFF YOUR FEET IN AWE. My mimosa was heavenly- fresh squeezed orange juice, in a hefty wine glass with a wee orange slice included. Bonus points- waitress asked right away if I'd like a bit of pomegranate juice in my drink. Of course! And thanks for taking an extra second to make my experience better! This mimosa is worth stopping in for alone. Their soups are piping hot, full of interesting flavor (think Emmer&Mushroom or Thai Tomato) and very gluten free / dairy free / vegetarian friendly. Seafood dishes are absolutely a must try here too. Ask for specials or pick something you want to be wow'd by. All options are excellent. Couple things- 1. It's a little spendy. 2. You will consume the best, and I mean the BEST crab cakes in Northwest Washington. 3. The establishment is centrally located in Downtown Anacortes, minutes away from the ferries. 4. They also have a wee cold case of nibbles and desserts where you can pick up and run. 5. Go there now. read more

I ordered the clams for take out, and they were very good. The steamers were tasty, not too salty and good flavor. Not rubbery and overcooked. It was perfect. The focaccia was great for dipping. It was easy to order over the phone and pick up. It takes time for them to prepare the order, about 20 min, and there is not a large waiting area so no need to rush for pick up. There were people eating at the tent outside and seemed happy with their food. Looked like 3 tables. I would like to return for in restaurant dining in the future. read more

We called ahead for 2 orders of the clam steamers in wine garlic sauce. What we got was mussels + clams... so that was unexpected. Despite the mix up, it was a delicious broth. It was smaller than what we thought in portion size. Really rich broth flavor. Wish we had more bread! read more

We made a reservation for four at 5:30 on a Friday evening. They were ready for us and got us seated right away. The service was excellent all night. Our waitress did a great job, especially with our kids. I had to try the crab cake because of the reviews...it did not disappoint. I had the fish tacos which was a large serving size, and very good. My wife had one of their salads, and it looked delicious and filling. Dinner, drinks, appetizers and dessert came to a total of $100 before tip...that's pretty damn reasonable. I would love to come back and try their breakfast. read more

Originally our intrepid work group was going to have dinner at the Majestic Inn, but unfortunatley, the main dining room is closed on Mondays. Looking for a suitable alternative, we crossed the street and wandered in to Adrift. What a neat find! The only negative thing about our experience was that it took a very long time for the food to come out. Minus 1 Star. Past that, the food (featuring local and organic ingredients) was excellent and was enjoyed by all. On our table was the stuffed pork chop, crab au gratin, the burger special, fish tacos, and scallops. I also thought that wait staff were friendly, very attentive, and well versed in the food and drink choices. The deserts were also very good. I particularly enjoyed the Key Lime tart, while others had ice cream and a dish appropriately named "Chocolate Shipwreck". I also enjoyed the eclectic and very comfortable main dining room with the nautical themes, the library books for sale, and the copper tables. Even the bathroom was whimsical with "Either or Both" written on the door. read more

If you update a 5-star review with another 5-star review, it counts as 10 stars, right? I eagerly grabbed the opportunity to stop here while on a work trip to Anacortes. I came in late afternoon, prior to the dinner rush and while they were still serving from the lunch menu. This is such a charming spot. I can't quite describe the decor...it's like diner meets second-hand store meets old house, but with a few touches of great panache thrown in, like the lovely metal table tops. It's also hard to put your finger on the menu...well, not literally, the server hands you the menu and your fingers end up all over it...but it seems as if they're aiming for a regional family restaurant (local seafood, salads, soups, burgers) but then there are also exceptions such as yakisoba (autocorrect: "yak isobar"). I had a lovely cup of tomato Parmesan soup followed by an exquisite tofu BLAST sandwich...BLAST normally stands for Bacon Lettuce Avocado Sun-dried Tomato aioli but they will substitute tofu for the bacon (they wisely call it the "Tofu BLAST" and not the "TLAST"). The tofu is marinated and thinly sliced, and crispy on the outside but still perfect and juicy inside. It was served with excellent oven-roasted French fries seasoned with herbs, pepper and a few garlic cloves. I washed it down with a mighty fine Arnold Palmer. The service was superlative. The server, Jordan, offered the exact right blend of timely professional courtesy, welcoming friendliness, and easy-going confidence that this meal was going to be good from start to finish. All service should be that good. Can't wait to come back! read more

My husband wanted fish, and from these reviews, THIS was the place to go! Short review: This place wasn't really all that, but there was good service and food. I had the Thai tomato soup, and my husband the salmon tacos. Both very good, and served within 15mins. Negatives: I had to ask for more water after waiting and waiting... I can't even stretch my neck in a chain restaurant without someone throwing water at me. Second negative, the chairs. Oh lord, the chairs. The short metal chairs near the exit are the most uncomfortable chairs on the history of the planet. Someone please steal them and melt them down. read more

We stopped by here for lunch after a long 4th of July weekend and I'm really glad we did. This place had the best food we ate all weekend! It was a long, fun and a bit exhausting holiday weekend spent on San Juan Island. We had tried a few places on the island and for the most part we were disappointed so finding this gem on our way back home was great. We were searching Yelp for a good place to eat lunch on our return trip and from the reviews and photos we decided to give it a try. We were still craving some good seafood so we decided to try the crab au gratin and the yakisoba looked so good we had to try that too and shared each dish. The Crab au gratin was amazing, one of the best crab dishes either of us ever had, I highly recommend it! The Yakisoba was great too and probably the best yakisoba I've ever had plus the chicken we added to it was cooked and seasoned perfectly! I would recommend either dish or both and share like we did. We also both had the $5 mimosas and they were delicious as well. The only reason I can't give them 5 stars was the price. It was a little pricey but not ridiculous, especially from what we had experienced on San Juan Island. read more

After reading such glowing reviews, I had high hopes that Adrift would provide a mouthwatering, outstanding meal during our visit to the quaint city of Anacortes this weekend. Our meal however, was the exact opposite. We had the Tomato Parmesan soup, it was extremely salty (and I am not one to limit my salt intake) and oddly gritty, almost inedible. We also had the Troller Tuna sandwich. It sounded promising, but when it arrived, it was a unremarkable mash of ingredients, whose only distinct flavor was celery. I really wanted to like this place, I'm all for restaurants that source locally, but unfortunately, this was the worst lunch I've had in quite some time. Regarding the restaurant itself, it was quaint, as many reviewers have mentioned, they have material hanging from the ceiling to mimic sails and bookshelves lined one wall. I found it odd that they only had one, unisex bathroom for customers and a deli squeeze bottle that you have to invert to dispense their soap. Addressing the service we received, it was also lacking. Both our table and the table next to us had to flag down and get up and ask the waitress directly for beverages. We weren't made aware of the day's specials and her demeanor was indifferent at best. For the price bracket, I expected more. read more

One of the nicer restaurants in this ferry town. My salad was well made but I thought the avocado yogurt dressing lacked flavor. My crab au gratin was tasty but i would have liked it to taste like crab and not cheese. Nice ambience and manager went out of his way to be helpful. read more

Seafood based busy place in Anacortes. It looked quite promising, but our dishes were significantly off in preparation and taste. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this restaurant. read more

Simply amazing. Most people stop off in Anacortes because it's where you catch the ferry towards the San Juan islands and hardly give it any time to appreciate the quirky character of this little town. I'm glad I got here in the early afternoon and gave me some exploring time before catching the ferry the next morning. I came into Adrift for dinner based on the reviews I read here and it was fantastic. The half-dozen oysters I had in their shell, were super fresh and the mignonette sauce they came with was just right. I ordered the curried salmon dish as a main and it came with pureed sweet potatoes and bok choy, again, delicious. The chocolate mousse dessert was also wonderful. I really enjoyed my meal. The place is decorated with a nautical theme and lots of books within easy reach to browse. The servers I had were friendly and when I asked them questions about the ferries didn't seem fazed at all and even gave me some pointers. It's a bit more expensive than other places but you'll get a proper sit-down meal here, that's for sure. read more

Pros: The interior design, table separators and wait time are all bonuses for this restaurant. There are plenty of props and paintings which will remind you of marina life. Spices. I know most people don't associate seafood and burgers with good blends of seasoning, but it really stood out. Nothing required condiments or extra salt because everything was perfectly seasoned.I ordered a crab cake and biscuit breakfast sandwich. The plating of these dishes were nice, as well. If you ever get the chance, try the pineapple cider. Cons: While you're waiting to be seated by the bouy, (if you're anything like me) you can clearly spot the cooks hard at work. They're churning out burger after burger, which would be great if their fries came out on tme. What does this mean for the average customer? The food MIGHT be cold. read more

Eat here! My mom and I visited Anacortes and ended up eating here twice on our trip! The cocktails are so fun and delicious (we got a Dark and Stormy and a Seattle Manhattan - has coffee liquor). My mom is a pescatarian and this was a perfect place. The food was delicious - I'll dream about the blackened fish tacos for a while and the burger and crab cakes were amazing! There's a little area for outdoor dining that worked great. Staff are really friendly. Wish we could eat here every day! read more

Very nice dinner eatery. We made a reservation for Saturday evening. I like that the communal tables have dividers. Everything was so tasty. Crab cakes with a sweet and spicy sauce. Crab au gratin steak 5 stars. Pan fried oysters delicious. Curry salmon also well balanced not spicy. Everything had veggies and starch. Dessert was creme brûlée- so light and fluffy not dense custard. Fantastic ice cream from local creamery Lopez Island. I had a scoop of the blueberry. We also shared sailor sundae with an amazing hot fudge sauce that was infused with beer. It came with great spiced nuts too. Food was well priced for quality and quantity of dishes. ( we are used to LA prices) Service was fast and friendly. Refills happened quickly without asking. On our way out we picked up a few shirts. They have a little shelf of merchandise. read more

Hey, they're open on Tuesdays. And the food is great!!! Time to correct the site. Can't beat coming here.

Great food, excellent staff, and nice atmosphere! Highly recommend! The Dungeons crab au-grauten was the bomb!!

If I lived in Anacortes I would be eating at Adrift weekly. My only disappointment is how far away they are from me - come on Adrift, you know you want to relocate to the Seattle area! My friend and I stopped here on our way to Friday Harbor after seeing the well deserved reviews. We were promptly greeted by a cheery server who showed us to our table. The decor is fun and intriguing. The tables caught my attention first noticing their fine hand crafted construction. Books line the wall so a patron can buy a used book cheaply. Antique posters cover the walls artfully displayed and above my friend's head was a lacquered marlin. The service was great! Our server was cheery, quick, and lots of personality. She gave recommendations, checked on us frequently without being overbearing. It was quite nice. But the food... I ordered the fish tacos, because I'm a huge fan of fish tacos. Now that I have had theirs I'll be hard pressed to have better. I ordered the salmon tacos and their salmon was perfectly cooked. It was plentiful and oh so my delicious. The cinnamon black beans oozed with flavor. The chipotle sour cream gave the tacos the right amount of heat. But the mango pico de gallo was simply to die for. I will happily return! read more

We sat at the counter, and enjoyed friendly service, GREAT halibut tacos, a great kale salad, good beverages, and all in all a great value too. This place makes awesome breakfast burritos. Every time we come through Anacortes, we have to stop here for a bite to eat. All tables are made of copper, walls are red brick, and book line the shelves which gives it a cool lighthouse theme. Plenty of booths and tables to break it up. Great for kids and a nice long bar on the other side to watch the chef go to work on your food. The place looks very warm and smells amazing from the moment you walk in. Good beer selection as well. This place is a well-oiled machine!!! There must be 20 employees buzzing about & everyone had a smile on their face. We sat at the bar while we waited to be seated at a table (cuz we didn't have reservations, whodathunk on a Thursday?! Now I know why!!) & watching the kitchen crew at work was mind-blowing. I don't know if it helped me decide what I was going to order, or if it made it more difficult, but everything was delicious!! Adrift is a foodie's paradise in Anacortes. I've had my fair share of meals in small towns for which I don't have very high expectations, but damn, at Adrift, you're in for a real treat. The space itself is so adorably and tastefully decorated with a nautical theme (duh), and they don't have traditional fountain drinks. Instead you can look to organic colas, house made lemonade with honey, or the vast selection of beers/wines. I stuck to water, but I had a sip of the lemonade which was very unique and tasty. For my meal, I had the salmon burger with fries, and oh my goodness, everything about it was delicious. The bun was soft and perfect, and whatever else was inside complemented the salmon. The fries were delicious--hand-cut, I think, and everyone else in my party loved their meals as well. The brunch meals come with a potato croquette which is a lovely spin on the traditional breakfast potato form. I will definitely be coming back here whenever I'm in Anacortes! read more

The food is great, we have 2 entree with one side, together with a dessert to share. The side stired vegetable portion is huge, plate is as big as the main course, but taste light and healthy. Recommend to go with the main course. There are some sands in the shellfish which is something I absolutely hate, meaning it's not washed very well or thoroughly, but the broth though is very tasty, with all kinds of herbs, as well as wine. Crab cakes..hmmm...not my favorite, cuz the outside of the cake was deep fried, where some of my preferred ones were not. It has a little sweet layer of flavor in the meat, which is nice. The kale took half of the plate, a lot of greens. Chocolate coconut mousse, too sweet. I once attended a cooking class and learned how to make those chocolate custard; immediately I can taste the difference. What's terrible though is the attitude of the waitress. Not in the mood of serving, not helpful, and not smile. Looks like the whole town of Anacortes went to eat there during Sunday noon, need better operational management. read more

We were looking for a place to eat, kind of late-ish and strolled by Adrift which looked like a place the locals eat. Hadn't checked any reviews but we were hungry so we took a chance and glad we did. We sat at the bar because the tables were full and I recommend it. We had a great view of the kitchen which was hopping. Amazing how the cooks coordinated with each other and really put out the food. It was fun to watch (plus you know it's clean because you can see everything.) I had the crab cake dinner which was perfect. Lots of crab, perfectly done. Add an IPA and it doesn't get any better than that. Staff was friendly and attentive even though it was super busy (and on a Wednesday!) Loved the kitschy décor which was fun to look at. On a whim we took a drive out to Anacortes since its a place we haven't ventured around. We knew when we arrived we would be hungry so we stumbled upon this wonderful gem through yelp. Lots of good reviews and stars compared to other options. Admittedly I wanted to pass on Adrift for one of the local brewerys and I am so happy that we didnt!! First off we came on a gorgeous day around 6-7 so the place was pretty full about a 30 min wait, so we opted for outside seating. Our waitress ( I wish so bad I could remember her name so I can give her a shout out on here) was SO HELPFUL!! Very prompt and tentative and had good humor as well! She made some suggestions and the Green Dragon curry with clams and pink singer scallops are out of this world!! We also tried 2 crab cakes which were definitely delicious and had plenty of crab meat. Their bloody mary is made with sake instead of vodka and the blend was elegantly flavorful. We would have went for the Cioppino but our waitress again saved the day by letting us know that the mussels wouldnt be in it since a batch was not good from the local harvest. Some say this is a pricey joint but for the quality of food and service I would gladly visit and pay up again!! You can definitely taste the love, passion, creativity and care they put into their food!! read more

Wow! Two days in Anacortes, two meals at Adrift! Dinner was SOOOOOO off the hook good that we HAD to return the next morning for the much vaunted breakfast. But I digress... Dinner was graciously served after nearly everyone else in town had closed. Kaia was the most amenable and attentive of servers who entered into a rich, informative and ultimately fascinating conversation. The halibut was so fresh that it even after being cooked, was almost still wiggling! Not really. It was good and dead, but hadn't been for long. The sides were scrumptious although, owing to the relatively late hour for this sleepy, working town, the "featured" side of risotto was gone. Same with some other appetizers. Take away? Show up early but make a reservation. But ha! Fool me once land... We came for "breakfast" in the morning around 10:00 and were rewarded with a most remarkable fried egg "samich" with avocado and a splendiferous veggie something or other. Of the the freakin' chain good. Only downside, just beer and wine. Bummer. Could have enjoyed a (or several) martinis with my dinner. Don't miss this place!!!!!
