I want to be clear that this review is not about the doctors. Dr. Suk have been excellent, and I truly appreciate the care he have provided. Unfortunately, my experience with the front desk staff named Susanna at the Downey office has been very disappointing. On two consecutive days, I had interactions with the same staff member, Susanna, and both experiences left me feeling dismissed and disrespected. The first time, I called with a simple question about the insurance authorization process for an upcoming procedure because I genuinely didn't know how it worked. Instead of politely explaining the process, I was spoken to in a rude, impatient tone that made me feel as though I shouldn't have asked the question. The following day, I called to ask if my appointment could be moved from 9:40 AM to an earlier 8:30 AM slot because I was concerned about Friday morning traffic. I was immediately told there was no availability. I could totally tell that she wasn't checking. So I called the Arcadia call center just a few minutes later, they found the 8:30 AM appointment without any problem and changed it for me. When I called the Downey office back Susanna to ask about the discrepancy, I received different explanations, "Maybe someone just canceled it" and instead of a sincere apology, I was told, "My bad." Everyone can make mistakes. That wasn't what upset me the most. It was the repeated dismissive attitude, lack of professionalism, and feeling that my concerns as a patient were not taken seriously. I hope management addresses this because the doctors provide excellent care, and patients deserve to be treated with the same level of courtesy and respect by the front office staff read more

Waited over 1.5 hrs for follow-up appt from surgery the day before. Office was packed with people and no concern for the long wait. Was told to keep my head down due to pressure after surgery. Making me wait over 1.5 hours beyond my appt time is ridiculous. How about changing the office policy to space out the bookings longer! Instead of maybe every 10 min, try 20-30 minutes to not create the backlog. Would not recommend read more

Can we do anything less than 1 star!! They suck. This is coming from one health professional and parent's opinion. Specifically giving a local practice a chance was such a STUPID idea. My child goes to school up north. Deliberately making appointments to fit their schedule was our main purpose. Went to this location during our spring break. Trial was given and appreciated. Returned with concern during initial summer break with issues and given another trial while specifically notifying them that she was on the way to a summer abroad on another continent. She went straight to school and returned this past weekend for to finalize her prescription or get different trial I was told too late. I paid for exam and it's all wasted What a waste of money and time. The original optometrist Dr Kim is not even there anymore. Only got as far as the receptionist MAry. What kind. Of crappy provider care do you get at this place. Obviously their professional staff doesn't last. Just turn over to take your money with little clinical care. I would strongly encourage patients to not see Dr. Suk. He lacks professional decorum and has horrible bedside manners. When bringing up the fact he lacks communication he disregarded what I vocalized and stated " that's my opinion". Obviously it is my opinion that is valid and there is a reason I spoke up and said something. He then proceeded to say if I don't like the way he does things I should go to someone else. There was no acknowledgement of his poor actions or even a sensible response. I will be taking further action against this Dr as I strongly feel he has been mistreating patients and disregarding them and unengaging with them during their appointments. read more

This place was great for an eye exam. I was in within 20 mins of my appointment. Try to book an appointment at least a week in advance. They take Medicaid vision insurance but the glasses will come in after a month or two according to the last who works with the glasses so make sure to order the glasses early. Dr. Le was very nice and through. She was quick and efficient at her job but more importantly was nice and easy going. She did not make me feel uncomfortable. She also made sure to describe my eye health to me and how to keep its health up. She also told me at what age my eyes might start having trouble. read more

Mom had an eye accident. Eye scanned in ER. Dr. suggested she follow-up by visiting an opthamologist to be sure there was no damage behind the eyeball. Her insurance network referred her to the Retina Institute of California. She made an appointment to see Dr. Suk in the Downey office. The parking lot and building hallways leave a bit to be desired. Nothing fancy. But his office is very comfortable. Clean. Bright. Spacious. Television set entertains those not interested in reading or talking on their cellphones. We were there a few weeks before Halloween and they've decorated every room with pseudo spider webs, skeletons, Halloween-themed barricade tape, and lit pumpkins. Delightful. Whimsical. Entertaining. Warm. The staff is welcoming and helpful. Very little waiting time. We've seen Dr. Suk a couple times. She had no lasting damage. He answered Mom's questions about eye care, healing expectations, additional procedures. She came away feeling assured that she would experience full recovery. She hasn't received a bill yet so I can't comment on his prices, but they might be different depending on insurance coverage. read more

Sorry I am sure they are doing great things helping people with their eyesight but a consistent 2 hour wait each time you have an appointment is ridiculous. My first visit was over two and a half hours long with 90% of the time was spent in the waiting room. My second visit was over two hours wait too. I overheard a the front receptionist tell someone walking in that they were 2 hour's behind !!! I wonder if they are double booking or??? I will l not be continuing with this location and will neec to find a place that values MY time more. read more

I found the Retina Institute of California and after reading their reviews I set my father up for an exam. He has diabetic retinopathy and was being bounced around by other ophthalmologist and physicians. He was very pleased with the way he was taken care of right off the back. He complimented the office and the friendly, professional staff and was even more pleased with the care he has been given by one of the physicians there. Words can't express how grateful I am to have found this place for my dad. They are literally saving his eyesight with every visit. They have the latest technology and they are open and honest about every aspect of the treatment plan. Thanks to all that work at the Retina Institute! You guys are all angels! read more

Drs. Davis, Suk and Culotta are highly skilled. Dr. Davis performed successful vitrectomies on both of my eyes. I had been suffering from severe cloudy vision in both eyes, which made my vision poor in general and especially made it difficult to read. The results are simply amazing: I now have clear vision in which the acuity has increased dramatically. With nothing to interfere with the light reaching my retina, the higher resolution and ease of focus is mind-blowing. Both near and far objects (even those in outer space) are seen in much finer detail and recognition is instantaneous. No more squinting, double takes or straining. Amazing location! There were issues all the through my visit that were well beyond the control of the Retina Institute (insurance, health issues). The staff here was comforting, soothing and most of all informative. The front desk gentleman was very helpful and honest. He was thorough and forthcoming with information. The assistants were gentle and kind. When things were a little rough, they continued with the things that needed to be done and offered tissues. One of the girls offered to give me a minute and continue with the tests after I took a minute. The doctor did not want to share his genuine thoughts on my situation. He did and was very informative and black and white, just as I needed him to be. The entire staff was happy and a pleasure to be around. Dr Suk is very good, professional and thorough. Parking is always an issue and I had to walk a great distance, as the lot for the building was full. The young lady administering the drops needs more training; she was very pleasant , but rough in the way she administered the drops. All past experiences were exceptional, with no issues. read more
