I'm not the type of person that leaves a review.. I just read them.. and I read every single one of them before I went there.. my experience so far: I called them around 11:30AM today and I was referred by my insurance because they are "in network" they were very helpful and provided all the information necessary over the phone for me to make a decision to schedule an appt with them or not.. they accommodated me immediately for an appt at 2:30pm the same day( I called 2 doctors before them and they pushed me for 2 weeks for a free consultation) .. I was seen by a nurse shortly after I checked in and they did all the agreed upon procedures with all professionalism. They are very quick and efficient. so I understand how some people might think that they move through patients quickly.. they're just efficient- there is nothing better than that especially at a doctors office where sometimes you experience long wait times. I want to do a LASIK eye surgery and I asked upfront to give a rough estimate on the cost of the procedure on the phone and they gave me a very good rough estimate..(I kind of expected them to raise the price a little bit after I do the actual consultation and pitch me on different type of procedures) however they didn't do that and I got the quote for the procedure for the same amount they quoted me over the phone. I had a very good experience so far and I'm very happy over all and my surgery is scheduled for 2 weeks from now, will update as I get more info. read more

Rude with disparaging comments making patients emotionally hurt & angry, may not be medical malpractice - but it does violate ethical and licensing rules, which opens the door for other legal remedies. Bad bedside manner includes: Rudeness. Not appearing to listen to the patient, answering in a condesending and arrogant manner is literally Dr. Brian Brown who is truly a burnt out doctor who shows no professional mannerism, intimidates and discrimates patients due to race. First visited Dr. Brown's office this summer. My experience was great. Receptionists are friendly and helpful. The back office staff is also very patient and kind. I was so happy I booked my entire family and we all were very happy with the service, time and the prices! Dr. Brown was wonderful with my teen today. He joked around and made her feel at ease. She was so happy that she wanted to know when her next appointment was. The office aesthetics are nice and clean and the staff handling the glasses are amazing. Just had the best eye exam of my life! I am confident that my eye health is in good hands with Dr. Yoshimoto. I can tell from the efficient and sure way she does exams and the way she explains complex physiological concepts that she must be one of the top in her field. I am also very glad that they always dilate the eyes here because it's so important to evaluate and monitor the retina. My family has been coming here for around 10 years give take, and I have to say I've never had a negative experience here, and neither have my family members. Dr. Brown is very good at what he does, and he's really patient with us. He's never really come off as rude or impatient but I'm sure he has his bad days, just like we all do. Now his staff is also stellar, always very patient, very friendly, and just overall really helpful! They always take the time to explain each step in the process if necessary, are ready to answer any and all of your questions, and boy are they patient! If you're picking out glasses they'll literally give you all the time you need. The contact lens doctor would probably be the only downside to this place because he's only available on Tuesdays for some reason. Sometimes he still does come in on Saturdays though. Otherwise, not such a flexible schedule. Maybe it's time for one more contact lens specialist? However, the building is really nice and clean, and his name is written real big and shiny-like, so you won't have any problems finding it. It's located right across from Stonewood Mall, and right next to In-N-Out; not to mention Chipotle, Panda Express, and Pet Co are not too far either. If you live near Downey High School, this place is literally right outside their baseball field, making it convenient for Downey High families. He has taken time off hours to answer my questions related to vision, and he can be reached promptly from his office answering service. Dr. Brown did my LASIK 9 years ago. I couldn't see the clock on my bedside table in the morning w/o glasses before that surgery. Dr. B gave me 20/20 vision that I am still enjoying today. The first time I met Dr. B. Brown, I got the impression that he was pressed for time, and that I was in the way bothering him from the day to day routine of seen patience. At this time, I decided to give the doctor a break, because anyone can have a bad day. However, on my next visit I got the same greeting. Dr. B. Brown, pressed for time, and this time he had a bit of attitude because I was asking too many questions. At this point, I asked Dr. Brown was it something I said, or is it just me. Do I offend you in some way, or do you treat all of your patience this way. Dr. Brown's reaction was something was not ready or prepared coming from a high professional. I'm not sure what you want, or what you are trying to seek, I'm just doing my job. I was shocked and never said another word. At that time, I knew he deserved no third chance or any kind of rebuttal. Dr. Brown came across RUDE and Arrogant, no sense of compassion or professional courtesy. Dr Brown never said another word to me, nor did I to him. It was awkward, and embarrassing. My Primary dr. mentioned this place is run as a business and not by a doctor who cares for their patients. I feel like I agreed with his statement, because previously, I ended up getting an expensive allergy test, and an allergy eye drop prescription that did not seem to help. After spending lots of money, I've decided not to come back. And to see a doctor who explains more to help me, to help the patient understand the treatment and process. Dr. Brown was great. The consultation process was insightful, and helped me make the right decision. The LASIK procedure was quick (prepped and done in 20 mins!) Recovery time took about 2 weeks, and his staff and himself were available to me whenever I had any questions or concerns. I've had about 4 check ups since my procedure, and everything healed great. I have now 100 percent 20/20 vision! I recommend anyone who has ever thought of doing LASIK, to go in for a free consultation. I heard positive things about Dr. Brown for many years and this is why I went to see him. I absolutely hate to write what can be considered a negative review but, unfortunately, I believe I lost vision in my right eye because of Dr. Brown. I had been suffering from cataracts for some time and went to see Dr. Brown for a consult in 2019. I have rheumatoid arthritis and was very worried because I was having discomfort in my head, neck, and eye and I told Dr. Brown about all of this. He told me that my problems were muscular and that he had performed surgery on many rheumatoid arthritis patients but I told him my rheumatoid arthritis was atypical. He responded that my problem was muscular and I was completely safe to proceed with cataract surgery. Thereafter, my rheumatologist also called Dr. Brown and specifically stated she was concerned about potential blindness that could be caused by retina problems. Dr. Brown told my rheumatologist that my retina was pristine. Now it is clear that Dr. Brown did not take my or my rheumatologists concerns into account and disregarded them. Having been reassured by Dr. Brown that I had nothing to be concerned about and pursuant to his advice, I had cataract surgery on my right eye in October, 2019. The next day I felt ok. However, at approximately two in the morning the second night after the surgery, I realized I couldn't see from the right eye. In the morning at approximately 7 a.m. my husband and I began calling Dr. Brown and could not reach him. We left multiple messages on his answering machine and realized he did not give us any instructions for an emergency situation. Because he was not answering, we went to the emergency room at Downey Presybyterian Hospital. While waiting there, we finally got a call back from Dr. Brown who told us to meet him at his office approximately four hours later. This seemed like a very long time given that I could not see at all from the eye that just had surgery performed on it. When we got to his office, we were sick with worry after such a long delay and inability to initially reach Dr. Brown. When we saw him, Dr. Brown barely acknowledged us but then told us there was a very serious infection in the eye and that we had to go see another doctor in Fullerton to have emergency retinal surgery. When we asked Dr. Brown what could have caused the infection he inexplicably said that perhaps I did not wash my hands when going to the bathroom, something that does not happen and something that seemed intended to place the blame on me. This resulted in another delay while we drove to Fullerton and awaited the retinal surgeon. The retinal surgeon in Fullerton was helpful and performed surgery right away though it did not save my vision. It's been almost ten months now and I am completely blind in my right eye. I can no longer drive, I can no longer work, I lose my equilibrium/balance, I have experienced depression as a result, and I have been told that in addition to being blind in my right eye, a doctor at UCLA has since told me that I may lose the physical eye and it would have to be removed. On top of it, the cataracts in my other eye has gotten significantly worse but since it is my only seeing eye, I am hesitant to have surgery on it, being forced to choose between two awful choices of progressively worsening eyesight or risking complete blindness. My experience with Dr. Brown was a nightmare and I am now blind in my right eye. read more

If I would have known that this man had poor bedside manner, I would have never scheduled an appointment. His staff was friendly and professional. But he is so rude!! Comes into the room with an annoyed look on his face as if I was the one who ruined his day. Never smiled. Hey man, you already got my co-pay, the least you could do is smile and be friendly!! Wish they would give zero's here. Where do I start? The problem here is Dr. Brown who seemingly has the medical assistants do all the work. Took my daughter for an eye exam who had previously been diagnosed at UCLA and knew exactly what kind of lens she would need. Wanting to provide all the pertinent information to the Dr was beyond a dream since he was merely there less than 3 minutes. He walks in the room once all the work is done by his staff just to merit the fact that he was there and charge the insurance. In which my PPO detailed exams that were never performed and over billed. Very unprofessional with total disregard for patient care. Do have to say his socks were a 10 snappy dresser, burned unethical clinician that abuses his patients trust by charging services that were never rendered and neglecting their well being. Had to go back to UCLA since he gave the wrong prescription for glasses . No interest in patient care. Seriously needs to retire. I was hesitant to make an appointment with Dr Brown, after reading all the Yelp reviews, but I am so glad I ended up going to him. He was amazing! He answered all of my questions, and showed a lot of compassion throughout my visit with him. Sure, he is more of a serious type, but he gave me the time to express myself and he explained what was wrong with my eye thoroughly. I have to update my review. Waited a long time to go back to get my eyes checked after my negative experience with Dr. Brown. My examination revealed I didn't need cataract surgery in both eyes as was Dr. Brown's diagnosis( related by his staff) Also it was advised my eyes are great. The doctor said it was good I got a second opinion because I probably wouldn't need cataract surgery for 10 years. 20/20 distance 20/25 reading. read more

I've experienced better service at Sears optical. At least there, the entire examination is done by the OD during your appointment (which includes the fitting for eyeglasses and contacts). If you require an exam for contacts, this place only does it on Saturdays, which is very inconvenient if you can't make it on that day. Also, they heavily push you to consider lasik surgery. They go as far as showing you the video of the procedure while you wait for the doctor to see you. Overall, I don't recommend this place. read more

One of the worst choices I have made was coming to this office to get my Lasik done. The only reason I decided to go with Dr. Brown was because my husband had gotten his Lasik there years back, so I thought it would be best to go with someone my husband knew, instead of getting a recommendation from my amazing optometrist, that was my mistake. When this office was trying to get my business they were very attentive, and Dr. Brown really made it seem like he cared about his patients. However, as soon as they had gotten payment from me, and for all my follow up appointments, I couldn't not get the time of day from any of them, specially Dr. Brown. I am not exaggerating that for all my follow up appointments Dr. Brown spent only 3-5 minutes with me. Throughout my first year after my surgery I kept telling Dr. Brown that one of my eyes felt different, always irritated, always dry, and blurry vision compared to the other one. He kept assuring me that everything was fine. I kept telling him that my right eye had way worse vision than my left eye, but he kept telling me that they were both same vision and they were fine. I was finally tired of him, and decided to go with my regular optometrist for a checkup. There he informed me that indeed my surgery had been done poorly, and that was the reason for my dry eyes, irritation. Despite me telling Dr. Brown at my close to one year appointment that I felt my right eye had bad vision, he insisted that it was the same vision as left eye. The real reason he refuses to admit that my right eye was corrected poorly was because he didn't want to fix it. If you are trying to get a good Lasik surgery, please look elsewhere. You will only get a poorly done surgery, with horrible customer service from your doctor. read more

Dr. Brown came highly recommended by my daughter in law and mother in law. So evidently he gets it right some of the time. I received cataract surgery recently. The first eye did not turn out so well. When I went in to do the second eye, I explained that my first eye was a little foggy and I still do not have good distance sight which the Toric lens should have given. My second eye which was just done yesterday is great. (hence the 2 stars) I told Dr. Brown that my left eye was still foggy and somewhat blurry. I told him I read on the internet a doctors article that said it should take no more than 1-2 weeks for everything to clear up. It has been a month and no change. Dr. Brown told me it will be 2 more months and that If I'm into reading the internet to look up the visual cortex. That will explain it... He walked out. What an asshole..... He could have taken the time to sit down and explain. I think he runs a mill and is constantly moving on to the next patient. I would like to know why he told me 2 weeks then 2 months?? But he does not stick around long enough to answer a lot of questions. you know, always on the move.... That's Dr. Brown. For me his attitude is not great, he does not explain things real well. depends way too much on his staff and has a terrible bedside manner. I went to Dr Brown upon recommendation from a friend who had used him for her eyes. Dr Brown performed Lasik on my eyes and I have been very pleased with the results. His staff is very professional and they do so many eyes tests and exams before the surgery is completed. I had the mono Lasik. It has been little over a year now since I had the surgery and not once have I regretted having it done . I should have done it years ago but was always scared to do it. I used to go to Dr. Brown for a couple of years, but finally decided to switch because of the long waits I was experiencing at his office. I would have to make two appointments for my eye exam and have a separate contact lens fitting on a different day. They only have 1 doctor (not Dr. Brown) that deals with contact lens so he is only there every other Saturday. I was spending between one-two hours waiting around during my appts. To me it felt like they overbook his appts. I now go to Total Vision Optometry in Stonewood and they have great quick service, I'm in and out in 45 min tops. read more

I have been going to Dr. Brown for almost 30 years! He has taken care of my torn retina, my glaucoma (surgery) and taken care of my vision. I have seen many changes in office staff over the years and I think he has the right ensemble now. His techs are very friendly, patient and courteous. The front office staff is very patient with me especially when I have questions about co-payments that I sometimes have to make for special exams through my medical insurance and my vision plans. There have been a few times I have had to wait longer than usual depending on what the appointment is for. Some patients just may need more attention. Dr. Brown will answer any questions you have with patience and knowledge. He has a good sense of humor even with all the patients he has to see. Gabby, the optician, is wonderful! She has a sense of style and will help you find the frames that fit your face and your lifestyle. As she puts it, "Think of your frames as an accessory." So true! read more
