This is an old diner. The waitress was great! My husband had an omelet and they were accommodating with his diet with substitutions. He said the omelet and toast were very good. I ate his potatoes which were very good and a little crispy like I like them. I had an over easy egg, done perfectly with corned beef hash. The corned beef hash was from a can. I can always tell. Corned Beef hash is so easy to make, I don't know why restaurants don't go that extra step. The breakfast menu is not very big like most diners. The restaurant is older but seemed clean. I was so pleased with my meal tonight. I stopped in just to get a nice warm bowl of chicken and pasta soup, but I ended up staying longer and ordered their amazing seasonal chocolate chip, pumpkin and pecan nut pancakes. It was very easy to find (right on Dixwell Avenue) with lots of parking on the left side and in the back It's a very traditional diner with a traditionally large diner menu, plus lunch specials and meal specials. We grabbed a booth in the front and a coffee for me and an ice water for him came out super fast. I wasn't very hungry, so I looked at the breakfast sandwich menu and zeroed in on their Mexican Burrito Wrap ($9.75) with scrambled eggs,cheddar cheese, bacon,avocado, onions, and salsa. No sides were served with it. I thought it was very good -the eggs were nice and moist, the bacon was crispy, and the avocado was ripe. Portion size was good too - so I had zero complaints. My brother ordered the Hot Appetizer Sampler ($14.00). It was a huge platter built for two with fried zucchini stickes, mozzarella sticks, and chicken tenders over lettuce, served with marinara sauce and honey mustard. This place has been around for years and I don't know how they survived. Maybe it's a different experience visiting in person, but ordering delivery is not working. Ordered several items, Starting with the Southbeach Smoothie. It was a chunky not smooth mess. A few more minutes in the blender/mixer may have solved that. On the plus side, i was able to spoon out some of the fruit chunks to add flavor to the plain lifeless bland oatmeal. The oatmeal was just that, oatmeal. But there was no sugar, butter, syrup or anything to give it a little life. The Philly steak eggrolls were just a no for me. I didnt enjoy the texture or taste. Then the star of the show, the Moussaka dinner! The first problem was the visual; grease/oil moving about the bottom of the pan. Then the texture; whatever that bottom layer was, it was soggy and greasy. This definitely wasn't freshly made that day. So disappointed... but the Greek salad that came with the meal was fresh and delicious... My friend ordered eggs with corned beef hash; Didn't like it and didn't eat it. I didn't taste it so I cant attest to the quality. Of that entire order, I ate 1/2 the oatmeal and the salad. Just bad... Like I said earlier, maybe its a different experience in person but with the quality of food that i experienced, I probably won't be finding out.. We have had issues with incorrect orders in the past but decided to give them another try. They proved us to be right yet again. Had a bug inside one of our breakfast items that was dead. It was mixed in with the food that was sealed and delivered to us so there was no way it came into the food any other way but from the diner. Last time we will be eating from here. read more

Had a craving for old-school diner food, specifically an open-face turkey sandwich with gravy and home-fries so placed my order for delivery with Doordash. Food arrived promptly, was very well packaged (aside from the soda) and was MOSTLY very good too. The thin-sliced turkey was moist and flavorful, gravy was okay and home-fries were terrific. The problem was that my "sandwich" was served on top of what appeared to be the most buttery cornbread stuffing ever? This would have been fine except I have a dairy-allergy and had written that in the instructions for my order along with: "No butter please". Not cool. My favorite thing to get is a Bacon, Egg, and Cheese and they have one of the best diner BEC's I've ever had! I have been here before and they have okay breakfast but now I'm done coming back. First we ordered our app and it didn't come for a while. Then we ordered our food. I ordered a burger and my girlfriend order soup and a grilled cheese. I got my burger first, I had asked for it medium rare, the patty was a hockey puck that tasted like the grill hadn't been cleaned in a while. We finally got our app which was cheese fries btw. "Acrap" brings back tons of memories from college. It was one of the first places I dined when I moved to CT, it was "the place to be" and hang out if you went to my college. Although, to be honest, I don't know if I'm a fan because Acrop is a legitimately good diner, or if it's because Acrop is such a staple to Hamden livin'. I've never had a bad experience with the waitstaff. Just the opposite, actually. The food is typical diner food. Any place that serves breakfast all day is good in my book. The prices are reasonable. Coffee is decent and equipped with free refills. Soda is decent, but the refills ain't free. Seriously, Acrop is a Hamden institution. I have so many memories of eating here - especially from my high school days. Which was awesome when I was actually IN high school, but now that years and years have passed since roaming the halls of Hamden High, this fact is just irritating. Whyyyyyy is this place full of high school brats? Was I really THAT annoying? How do the waitstaff even stand it? Okay, I'll stop asking questions. Solid turkey club. A turkey club is one of those things that if a place does it well, you can pretty much assume they know their business. The canary in the coal mine that is a diner. Roast beef club is just as good. Acropolis has a great turkey club and good enough service that if I specify the kind of toast and no cheese and a side of mustard they get it right, no questions asked. Service is beyond excellent. And yet, honestly, this place only deserves 3 stars - their gyro is no where near as good as the Yorkside's. The food is typical good diner food but the owner is another story!!!! So Jeff and I have a few friends that live in Hamden so one night we were all hanging out and wanted some good diner food. We went to Acropolis and everything was going well. The waitress was really nice and some of the guys were flirting with her and we were all having fun. At the end of our meal we mentioned to the waitress that we wanted 3 separate checks since we came in a large group. Since she had already written up the bill, she had to go to the register where her boss was to re- write it up. After a few minuets we all realized that the owner was yelling at our waitress and calling her stupid! We all waited at our seats to see what would happen and finally I couldn't take it! I walked up to the owner and asked what the problem was. He was like "oh don't worry the waitress screwed it up, she stupid." (in his thick accent and broken English) And I was like no it's our fault that we did not tell her before hand that we wanted separate checks. And he was like "oh no it is her and now I need to do it all over again!" None of us could understand why he was making such a big deal. He was shouting over having to write 3 new checks by hand. He said that his machine (calculator) was not working and that he could not just rip up the original piece of paper and start all over! I would rip them up and re-write them myself so he would not have to go through the trouble and he refused. He was not only rude to the waitress but to all of us!!
