One more diner meal before flying back West? Heck yeah. This one is my Brother's local, because it's a bit smaller than others in the area, and offers a more quiet setting for breakfast. They did a real nice job with my breakfast sam, in a brioche rather that a hard roll. Nice to have real swiss cheese on it, as well. Wifey went light with Avocado Toast for the travel day, and was pleasantly surprised with the addition of Feta on them. She'll be bringing that little factoid back home with her, haha. And I guess this's one of a very few places that'll do Grits in the breakfast hours. Hostess, waitress, and the rest of the staff were all happy and friendly, and I got a kick out of them doting on my older Bro. My wife and I were in the area and in a rush so we stopped in here for a quick lunch. It's a cute little place with a counter out front and tables in the back. From the moment we walked in, however, I got a vibe like they were shorthanded and stressed. Stacie was our server and she treated us fine - just "fine" - she took our orders - New England clam chowder and an entree. It did take what felt like an inordinate amount of time for the soup to come out. Same with the broiled seafood combo. But, I have to say, both were EXCELLENT! Stopped right off the highway for dinner. Convenient for those driving down 95 or also a favorite of locals. Inside was classic diner vibes with a milkshake bar seats or booths. Service was friendly and efficient, from getting seated to food being served. As you'd expect from a diner, an expansive menu of various grill eats and American entrees . Small, busy diner with plenty of parking and a friendly staff. Service was quick, and my coffee cup was refilled without my even asking. Eggs up were quite good, but the bacon egg and cheese were not to my wife's liking; bacon was not thoroughly cooked, and the roll was very sweet. This place is a gem!!! I understand they are under new ownership and I have to say, the staff are friendly & welcoming, the food is fresh and delicious and the atmosphere is very pleasant and clean. I ordered the Chicken Franchise with a side of sautéed broccoli. The chicken was tender and very tasty, better than some so called high end restaurants have prepared. The broccoli was cooked just right with the color a bright green and slightly crunchy and just the right amount of garlic with olive oil. I then tried the homemade rice pudding and my tastebuds did a dance. You don't find rice pudding like this often and it's a special treat! This place is great. It's an old friendlies building South. Turned into a diner we started going there in like 2012. It had a different name & I don't know when they change. However, they should be putting down the hard floor soon so we have to stay out. They pretty much the same menu. They added a few items as well. They also have a daily and weekly special. Also if you go there sign up for rewards. I just got a $10 gift card. It's for my birthday wishes coming up. The menu is Humongous menu qualified as a deli you can get eggs & what not anytime of the day. I believe they're open till 9:00 p.m. & they're even open on Thanksgiving, Christmas & Easter. The woman told me they're open 365 days so it's good for people who live here in this state whether they're young or old. A lot of people don't have family here so they will go there. Breakfast was delicious. The menu had lots of options for breakfast. I got the doctor's omelette (egg whites with tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach, broccoli). It was so good and light. Coffee and French toast were really good too. Loved the pictures of several Branford buildings and landmarks on the walls. Will definitely be back. read more

I ordered takeout from this location so I can not speak to the staff or restaurant environment. However, for diner food, I was definitely impressed. My family and I ordered a variety of items on the menu and we enjoyed everything. My husband had the bacon cheeseburger and I had the pecan pancakes. Road-tripping up I-95 and it's well past lunch time. I saw a billboard for a crab place and thought clam chowder does sound good. This is New England so.... Well the crab place seemed a little too upscale for me so I decided to try this diner I passed. Middle of the afternoon on a Friday and I'm the only one in the place. It was clean, all booths and an extensive menu. The board out front mentioned the clam chowder so that was an obvious starter. I didn't want anything big but not a burger. For some reason a gyro sounded good. The chowder arrived. Manhattan style! You got to warn someone when traveling through New England the the chowder isn't New England. Now I'm bummed. I will admit the chowder was still good but mostly consisted of large chunks of potato and a lot less clam. Then the gyro arrived. It is served open faced; flat pita with gyro meat on top then a heaping pile of steamed onions and peppers. There were two cubes of feta cheese and sauce in a plastic container. Again, it tasted good but not what I was expecting. Maybe had I stuck to the standard sandwiches and fries I might rate this place a little higher. The service was fine, the prices reasonable and the facility seemed clean. Just walked away without having either of my food cravings satisfied. read more

So this place has terrific service and is very clean. We ate here twice in a two day span. We had lunch here on a whim and the menu is extensive. The breakfast options looked amazing so we came back the next day for breakfast. I'll start with lunch/ dinner. I had the chicken parmigiana with penne pasta. It was outstanding. The chicken was seasoned and juicy inside a crunch outside. It was excellent. The pasta sauce was good too. My husband ordered the spinach pie as an app. I had a few bites. It was good, but maybe lacked some cheese. Just a little bit dry. His lunch was a meatball grinder which was also excellent. The same sauce I had on my dish is used. The cheese is really high grade mozzarella. The stretch point was really good and flavor too. The meatball had good flavor and was so light and fluffy, and It came with fries. We ordered desserts to go. We each got a cannoli which were delicious and I got a slice of carrot cake. The carrot cake I ate the next day and was happy to report it was moist and delicious. My husband got a little individual Boston cream pie. Our meal was very good so we decided to try breakfast the next day. We got there about 10am the next morning, it was a Saturday. So it was busy but we didn't have to wait too long to be seated. We got coffee, which was average. We ordered potato pancakes to split, I got the avocado Benedict, and my husband got the Irish Benedict. This is where the problem came in. The potato pancakes were hard as Little Rock's, the flavors were so subtle it was not very enjoyable. The Benedict's were a huge disappointment. The hollandaise sauce was horrible. It was thick like a gravy and had a bitter yuck flavor. I ended up scraping it all off and eating my avocados and English muffins. It was almost like they put flour in the hollandaise. I couldn't stomach it, so ended up avoiding that whole part of my meal. The home fries were good though. My husband had the same reaction to the hollandaise. It just was horribly wrong. He ate what he could avoiding it as well. It really put a sad face on the diner. We had the same waitress for breakfast she was terrific. I'd say avoid the Benedict's. read more

This was formally a placed called "56 Diner" it unfortunately closed in 2020 due to well...2020. This place Sky Diner moved into its place keeping much of the decoration, seating, and area inside. In fact if you are familiar with the place you probably won't notice any difference except in name. The management is different and they have no relationship to the former owners. The staff was friendly and attentive to us as customers. We got the breakfast items. The food was, okay. Thats kind of my rating is I could really say the food was that good or anything. This is hands down the best diner in the area. The food is always delicious! While there are a lot of diners in the area, most have gone downhill, while Sky Diner remains TOP. It's quick and affordable, and consistent, which is rare these days! The portions are large and they can easily customize most dishes to your liking. It's not high end cuisine, it's diner food, and for diner food it's out of this world. And unlike most diners, their dinners are actually really good! I especially love the shrimp scampi and shrimp Alfredo. I don't get some of the reviews, especially complaining about the decor, saying they "stole" it from 56 diner. They don't realize this was the same decor when it was Friendly's, and 56 stole it from them! It's just photos of Branford that have been on those walls for 40 years. Absolutely the best diner in the northeast I've been to. The salad was very fresh and the lettuce was crisp, even the tomatoes were very Crisp as if they were just picked and sliced. The soup was very delicious and full of flavors. I'm kind of a steak snob and was worried about the steak because most places won't cook a rare steak actually rare. When the steak came out it was absolutely perfect and the stuffed shrimp was absolutely to die for. This is my new favorite place for the Northeast and will always stop here for a meal. Highly recommend to everyone. I would have taken pictures but I was honestly expecting just your run of the mill diner food with the same kind of quality. I went for breakfast a few day ago - my first time ever in this establishment. I will never go back again. I ordered a Belgian waffle, on the menu for $10.95 shown with a photo which had strawberries and blueberries. The choices for toppings on the menu had only strawberries. I asked the waitress if they could put some blueberries on as well, which she did. Well, the waffle was subpar -- it was like the ones you make yourself at hotels that include breakfast. When the bill came, the charge for the waffle was $13.95 - just ridiculous for what I got. I called the waitress over to question the $3.00 upcharge and she said it was because of the blueberries. Seriously? $3.00 for 8 blueberries? She said there was nothing she could do about it, to speak to the cashier. I did, and he said the same; I could call the manager who wasn't there. Never again. I wish I had gotten on 95 and driven a few extra miles to eat at Cristy's in Madison for the best pancakes around. read more

The staff was very friendly, the waitress seemed enthusiastic and even the manager came by to ask if everything was good. The decor wasn't stellar, it definitely had a cheap diner feel to it but it wasn't awful. However that's where to good ends. The plastic glass my water came in had drops of what appeared to be soda on the side of it. The water tasted almost like lemon, which was strange because there was no lemon in it. The orange juice we ordered came out warm and tasted gross, and the food was very bland tasting. Overall, would not come here again. read more

"Cheap food, not so cheap prices" I don't know about you, but when I am looking for comfort food, the classic American diner is the way to go. I am one of those people that crave "Thanksgiving" at random times of the year, and usually when these cravings hit, I head for a local diner. Yesterday was one of those days; the thought of a turkey with gravy and mashed potatoes was what I needed. I placed a takeout order and brought the food home. MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!! First of all I specifically asked for a turkey dinner (comes with dressing and cranberry sauce), I got neither, it was an open faced sandwich, perhaps it was because it was lunch time and maybe they served the "dinners" after 5 pm. Okay no problem, I got mashed potatoes, broccoli, and a salad, so do I really need stuffing (dressing) and cranberry sauce? Not really. So I am ready to dig in to my turkey; it was covered in a yellow thick gravy instead of homemade brown, hmmm... should I judge a gravy by its color? I cut into it and I am shocked! This isn't slices of roast turkey! It is a bunch of rubbery processed turkey roll cold cut slices slapped on 2 layers of white bread covered with pudding-like yellow (canned?) chicken gravy! This is not what I expected, nor paid nearly $17 for!! I tried to give it a chance, but I couldn't do it, it was not good at all. I filled up on the potatoes and the turkey and my money is in the garbage. I also heard their meatloaf is pretty disappointing, again, another classic dish that people would expect a diner to master. Seriously, if you can't do a dish justice, just don't bother to offer it!! Did these people ever have a real Thanksgiving dinner? I would have been better off walking 100 ft to Stop and Shop and getting a whole roast chicken for half the price! Never going there again! read more

Definitely a place to check out. The location was a short walk from my hotel (Baymont). Top tier convenience. Very cheap with a wide variety of options. You get what you pay for but I definitely got bang for my buck. Large portions, above par for what I expected. Waitstaff is incredibly friendly and attentive. I wouldn't say it's "the place to be" but for the cost, amount that you get, and how quickly the food comes. I definitely was not upset with my experience.
