Stopped for an ice cream after a wonderful day on the water. They sell Ashley's ice cream (a New Haven institution) and it is wonderful. A single scoop was $5. A double is $6.50. Went to the take out window on the side of the building. The service was terrific and fast. The setting is gorgeous. It is right across the street from the water and is close to the ferry dock. Since it is by the ferry and public beach, it can be hard to find parking there during the summer season: read more

Off season great little place by the water to eat plenty of parking not busy and great location. Support your local businesses because they still need us. Had a great Italian combo and soup that changes daily they do hot / cold food. Chili was awesome with a delicious patty melt ! Come enjoy before the crazy summer season begins . read more

Decent egg sandwich. Got the western sandwich that I assumed would be like a western omelet on a roll but basically it was the components of a western layered on a sandwich. The Inside was pretty tasty but my roll was stale and the bottom was soggy. (7.50 for the sandwich) The sandwich and a seltzer cost me 11.00, which I consider to be pretty pricey for a take away breakfast. Counter girl was nice. All others in there were definitely local creekers. If you're really starving then go here but next time I'll probably grab a sandwich from Joey cal's on the way to the beach for Half the price. read more

Probably the best tuna melt I've ever had in my life. I'm still thinking about it... 3 days later. Hubby had the Italian combo and said it was delicious. The ice cream looked so good! Wish I was able to take it to go! Definitely will come back.. just for tuna melt! read more

The Thimbleberry - Best tuna mel ever. Had peppers in it. Pepper Jack cheese. Perfectly toasted. Drool. - Delis Near Me - Branford, Connecticut

My wife and I have been going to Thimbleberry two or three times a year for many years, for lunch or just ice cream by the sea. Given that, we want people to know that the falafel we had yesterday at the café was far and away the *best* we have ever tasted --and as vegetarians we have eaten a lot of falafel! Theirs had a satisfying crunchy crust around a soft, warm, moist center. Fabulous! Oh, and their ice cream is above average too. read more

Everything in Thimbleberry is always fresh !The breakfast wrap with eggs, spinach and cheese is great and their muffins are delicious! Owner Mike does a great job along with being a nice guy ! read more

If you're the type of person who enjoys hanging out by the shoreline and taking in the salt air like me, then Stony Creek is THE place you want to be on any lazy summer afternoon. At that time Stony Creek is buzzing with activity from locals and outsiders coming and going and hopping on boats heading to the Thimble Islands. There's a little beach on site for the locals. Kayak rentals are nearby too. Stony Creek is Connecticut's own little version of Block Island, right here in Branford. And when I say little, I mean little. There's just one street. And what better way to watch all the summertime activities than from the dining area of the Thimbleberry cafe? It's located right smack dab in the heart of Stony Creek. The Thimbleberry is a small sandwich shop that sells sandwiches, hot dogs, hamburgers, coffee and Gifford's ice cream. I've had their food on several occasions and it's fine, but what I particularly enjoy is sitting in its dining area and just watching the world go by. You basically order at the counter and seat yourself (tables and dining area are very clean). Like I said, it sort of reminds me of something likely found on Block Island. Adding to the marine ambience is a motor place right next door that repairs boat motors. The only downside are their hours. In the summertime they close around 6 or 7 PM and in the wintertime their hours become sketchy. But I can't blame them. In the wintertime, Stony Creek sort of falls into a hibernation so the fact that they're open at all at that time is somewhat surprising. read more

Excellent!! It has great food, helpful staff and friendly people. Plus a great outlook on the water and quick access to the thimble island tours. I had the lobster and arugula panini, it was awesome, with chunks of lobster with lettuce and some sause it was delicious. read more

So this is a super local feeling joint, and that's great and all but it gives off a bit of an unaccomodating vibe. The staff is friendly though, and Stony Creek has a way of feeling like a small Maine coastal town, and that's enjoyable for visitors. This place doesn't have a restroom, unless you count the port a potties across the street. The food is pretty good, but it's a limited menu. We like that the dock master comes and goes, gives it that small town feel. We enjoy stopping in for breakfast when we stay on the boat in the Thimbles and the area is always swarming with kayakers and Thimble Island boat tourists. I'm guessing they provide the bulk of this restaurant's income. Wish they served breakfast all day. They have a Square reader now so they do take cards. read more

Excellent food. All homemade by the owner- there are no microwaves on the premises and everything is 100% fresh and made to order. As a local, I understand the layout of Stony Creek and there is no bathroom because of the buildings layout. The deli is wedged between a marine services warehouse and above it lie apartments. It is also legally speaking a deli, as there are fewer than 10 tables inside the building. Therefore, there are no requirements of a bathroom. I also know for a FACT that the employees also do not have their own bathroom inside the Thimbleberry. They do offer hand sanitizer if you are coming from the portapotties, right across the street. There are worse things in life than protapotties, especially when the FOOD IS AMAZING! The pulled pork sandwich is to die for, and the Karen's chicken sandwich is an excellent combination of broccoli rabe and mozzarella. Not to mention the clam chowder is some of the best around. Specials are run everyday also. You honestly cannot go wrong. Favorite ice cream? Toasted coconut. Go to the thimbleberry and you will have a great meal and an excellent view. read more

Fairly limited menu and choices for the only food spot near the docks. We had blueberry ice cream and it was tasty and a good sized portion for less than $3. read more

Not fancy but Good food. Good service. Reasonable prices. And a great location on the marina.

Patrons are much friendlier than the staff. The girl behind the counter who takes the orders barely looked up, didn't say anything that sounded remotely like she was having a decent day. The dishes and flatware are all disposable, which I would understand if we were eating outside or take out, but not for eat in. What an incredible amount of trash. The lack of a public bathroom, is probably more having to do with the fact that a lot of businesses in Stonycreek are on tanks that need to be pumped out regularly. That being said, it's just the cost of doing business. For a place that charges a fair amount of money for their food, it seems like a no-brainer. There is a huge wall taken up for the bookshelf trying to pedal Stonycreek T-shirts, mugs. Even looks like they heisted the idea from Mystic that they use the coordinates some of the products. read more

Visited Stony Creek for first time in 40 years - I remember when this place was a bait shop. The egg sandwich was the best I've ever had - perfect balance of egg, cheese and meat on a delicious roll. Stopped in later for a great hot dog & fries. Happy staff, happy place. read more

DO NOT EAT HERE. That is unless you can guarantee you won't need a restroom. There is no restroom on premises nor is there one available nearby. Not only that, but they will laugh about it when you ask. I don't care how the food is or what the view is like, no restroom is BS! I didn't think it was legal for a restaurant to not have a restroom. I'm sure they have one, for their use, but they are sure not letting anyone in there, and they could care less. I've never given a one star review, but I'd give zero if it were an option. read more

Excellent burgers, Wonderful homemade soups. Great omelets. And can't beat the location. Far better food then the unnamed place up the street, but with the same great view If not even a little better. read more

Yum -- this place is the best in the area. Great sandwiches and super friendly service.

I stop in for breakfast or lunch occasionally and get the bear island, it's great. Simple place with simple food. No fuss. You can eat inside, or outside in a little area by the dock when it's nice outside. Perfect for a quick bite. read more

Great taste of a small village! A place they know you by name. Food is wonderful. Family friendly. Water seating or indoor water view! Very very resonable! A must go to place in CT! read more

The only fast food place near the Thimble Island Cruise. No air conditioning; only fans. The place gets crowded and you have to rush to place your order. The wall with the selections is against the wall where you wait in line. There is no menu board on the wall behind the person who takes your order. I found this disturbing. Food wasn't bad but I wouldn't go again. read more

French fries and onion rings tasted like fish . If I wanted fish sticks I would have ordered them . Chicken cutlet tasted like fish as well . Outside there are lots of signs yelling at you as to what you can and can not do. Only one vegetarian option on the menu. Please start changing your oil or use a separate fry bin for fish . read more

The Thimbleberry is a new deli-style "Casual Eatery in a Historic Village". The Thimbleberry has replaced "Creekers" and is not just a new name, but under new ownership/management. The food at the Thimbleberry is amazing (from what I have had). There is a very good selection of food for both breakfast and lunch, (ie; chicken, steak & cheese, burgers, hot dogs, pastrami, salads, sea food, cold cuts, etc.). The chicken cutlets do not seem to be the typical frozen type, but appear (and taste!) like home made breaded chicken. There is also a good selection of snacks such as chips, drinks, and Turkey Hill ice cream. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful when it comes to recommendations of what to get. The only down side is the parking. The Thimbleberry is located at the Stony Creek Town Dock and during the day, between the commercial workers, tourists, beach goers, and locals, it can be difficult to find a parking spot. However, do not let this minor inconvenience steer you from dining at the Thimbleberry. There are constantly parking spots opening up as people come and go. Also, there are plenty of activities to do in the area. From the tours of the Thimble Islands aboard one of the few tour boats, relaxing at the beach, kayaking, bicycling, or walking, a day trip could easily be planned in the Stony Creek area. read more

The crabcakes are delicious. Pure crabmeat, formed by hand and sauteed just for you by owner Michael McNamara Jr. They have a little crispy crust from the butter in the pan. Don't forget to order fries with that. Best fries I've had in a long time. And Michael's dad, Sr., will come on over to your booth to find out if you are happy, and you will be! A gem of a place. read more

There are two informal places to eat in this gorgeous harbor town. One is perhaps a bit more quaint but this one I feel has better food and is a better value. Last time there I got a cheeseburger and it was an enormous, greasy and wonderful version way better than I thought it would be. Could easily have been 3/4 lb. My son got the pulled pork sandwich which was very tasty and easily enough for 2 people to share. Great fries. Very good subs, sandwiches. In response to the woman who complained about there being no bathrooms nearby, there are port-a-johns across the street. Obviously not the most pleasant experience but better than nothing in a pinch. read more

Really like this spot! Friendly staff, good food and close to all the action in downtown Stony Creek. Love the fries and Giffords ice cream straight from Maine (try the blueberry when it's in season). Recently went for breakfast on a Sunday morning, and had the special: waffles! Terrific with fresh strawberries on top and butter & syrup on the side. A local triathlon was happening so great entertainment! Watched the kayaking and the start & finish of the running. After the event the participants were treated to water, juice, scrambled eggs and fresh fruit salad all arranged by the organizers and ably prepared, cooked and served by Thimbleberries staff, across the way at their outside seating area. This is a fun and happening place with good food and great service! read more

What a lovely transformation. Way beyond your average deli or sandwich shop. A credit to the village!

This is a great place to go. Love the Grilled Veggie sandwich and the chowder! In the summer you can't beat being right on the water. In the winter, it's cozy inside. Staff are friendly, food is ALWAY's fresh when I go. I highly reccomend this place for a good, casual lunch or breakfast. read more
