I have driven by The Deli countless times and finally decided to give it a try. The parking lot always looked busy so I assumed it had to be good. I was wrong. I grabbed a pre-made Buffalo chicken salad from the case. When I went to the cashier to pay, she didn't say hello and then proceeded to almost slam down my change on the counter. As far as the salad, the lettuce was soggy from the chicken and the chicken had a very strange flavor. It almost seemed like a mix of Buffalo and BBQ sauce with heaving seasoning. Unfortunately, based on the service experience and salad I won't be quick to return. read more

I'm a usual customer at the Deli considering I live fairly close. The food has always been great and I've never been unsatisfied. For a couple of weeks I've been having a TERRIBLE experience whenever this one employee works. I don't know her name but I'm always nice to every single one of the employees. I can always walk out feeling like I'll be coming back for more, EXCEPT for when this specific lady works. I don't know if she has a problem with Hispanics or maybe Hispanic women, but I always end up walking out the store annoyed whenever she serves me. I've been very nice to her and the other employees every single time, but she always gives me attitude. She's very aggressive when making my sandwich and has been recently slamming my sandwich on the counter when she finishes making it. Instead of asking how I am or asking how she could help me, she looks at me sternly and asks with this bitter attitude, "What do you want?!" I've seen her treat other customers the same way and it makes me feel severely uncomfortable. Her ambiance is COMPLETELY NEGATIVE. She has told me at one point she hates her job and wants to leave. She even told another customer in front of me today that she hates her job so much. It's HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL and it makes me want to stop going to the Deli just to avoid her. She's an older lady and only works with the food. It's purely disappointing that an employee like her treats customers, including myself, with such a DISGUSTING attitude. read more

Was going to order a steak & cheese sub until the guy making the subs picked up the onions from the fridge and walked over to the grill without using any gloves, didn't even see him wash his hands or anything beforehand. That's gross. I will never eat here and you shouldn't either. read more

Once upon a time, this place was great. I grew up down the street, and used to spend my allowance money on candy from the 15-cent boxes. But not even nostalgia could save this place. What used to be freshly prepared foods are now bought from some place else and put on display. Are you really going to sell me Dunkin Donuts muffins when there is one right around the corner? And let's talk about the pizza. I could never claim that the Deli had an excellent pizzeria, but it was more than decent and you can't beat a $10 large pie with unlimited free toppings. The pizzeria has since changed hands (and cooks). I believe a large pie is still $10, but I would rather order from Domino's than eat that crap. read more

Yesterday, I had such a craving for a turkey swiss on a hard roll. Nothing fancy just plain Jane boring, but definitely not Subway. Big convenience store with a deli on one side, looks like a pizza joint on the other. Guy dressed in chef's scrubs taking orders behind the counter. Clean place, tight aisles...when you're big everything is tight. Place is ROCKIN! parking lot is packed. Chef dude looks like he's ready to go postal, but is actually pleasant to talk to once the herd thins out. Take's my order, but informs me that if I wanted Prosciutto that it may be a while considering that they have to cut it on a different slicer. I've worked behind a deli counter and know exactly what he is talkin about. No big deal, probably saving my waistline. The sandwich he made was PACKED. He hands it to me and says "Sorry about the PRosciutto, but I made up for it." Nice guy. Prepared foods looked very good, but the smell of the BBQ pulled pork had me drooling. Other items on the hot table were chicken Carbonara, tortellini primavera, some soups, eggplany parm, etc. Everything looked more than edible. Price was on point with what a fat sub and big bottle of water should cost. You can't F up a Boar's head turkey and swiss much, but you can please a fat guy by stuffing it. I would definitely go back to try something other than a plain sandwich. The breakfast pizza sounds intriguing! read more

Terrible. Got the Texas bird on my lunch break, chicken was just plopped on top not even cut or sliced. I should've just took my money and went to McDonald's. I would've been much happier. On the menu it said crispy onions. The onions were grilled. read more

This is an odd review.. For a few reasons.. A former 7-11, convenience store, reinvented several times over. I feel this is the best of the hidden gems, a sleeper, a perfect go-2. You have a wide variety of variety. Cold drinks, staple items, to a real gourmet chef. You really can't get a bad thing to eat. It's rather great actually, it's consistent, it's delicious.. But I think the real hidden surprise is the Pizza. Believe me, this is a real surprise that I am glorifying a deli for their pizza, but it's DAMN DELICIOUS!! You know when you're hungry, anything you eat tastes better, and really satisfys you. But your next trip to the well is not as good as the first.. This pizza defys that mantra. The consistency, of flavor, cooked the same way, with toppings fresher than you'd get at any Fresh Market or picked yourself. To touch o. The toppings, there are not only fresh, but there is an ample amount . You would think that it would sloppy n floppy, but surprisingly not,. The pizza is not your typical New Haven Neoplitan, charred, etc. It's a oven cooked crispy flavorful pizza. On the contrary to other reviews, I don't think the new ownership is a problem! We just grew up with the 24 he deli and I think it's "nostalgic" for us. Do you forget that it used to be completely run down and disgusting inside? Anyway it's right down the street from my house and I stop in probably every other day. The store is spotless, they have everything you need and then some, I think the pizzas good! The ppl behind the counter are always friendly and pleasant I mean what more do you want? I agree with previous reviews the deserts aren't that good you can skip them but I really like the new deli! Would definitely be a plus if they were open 24 hrs! read more

I was in the area and saw The Deli so I stopped. I walked in and the gentlemen was like what so u want before I had the chance to look at the menu. I ordered my sandwich and went to look at the chips and candy. I walked back to the counter and recieved the sandwich. I was directed to the counter to pay. The two women behind the counter were conversing and barely acknowledged my presence except to take my money. I went to the car and proceeded to eat my sandwich. It was okay. The meat wasn't even on the sandwich, I only had like one piece of cheese. I ate half and tossed the rest. I opened the crunch bar I bought and it was chocolate but it must have gone bad, it was like tan colored... So they might be selling expired candy check the expiration. read more

New Owners are definitely not customer oriented - prices are inflated - deserts are molding and still on display and being sold. When I bought a slice of cheesecake and returned it because it was moldy underneath the slice I was refused a refund and told the cheesecake was "fresh". Waited for 15 minutes for service for ice-cream and wasn't given a spoon or napkins - owner was the one who "helped" us and he made us feel that we were interrupting him and that he'd rather be doing ANYTHING else than be in the store. The line cook who apparently prepares the "fresh food" in the back yells kids who came in to order fries and is extremely rude to customers. "Freshly cooked food" was sold to my husband - it must have spoiled - he was violently ill that night. We will absolutely NOT patronize the Deli in East Haven and I make sure to tell everyone what rotten service it offers. Don't waste your time or money. This place doesn't deserve a single star. read more

Cheesesteaks from here were awful. Last I knew cheesesteak come hot and the steak was cooked with the cheese... Asked for a hot cheesesteak and I got almost frozen meat with frozen cheese. I go back to ask if they could put it in the oven or get a new one and the Italian guy behind the counter flipped out. I've never experienced such rude service in my life. Honestly unbelievable. I came back out with my sub in the trash & no refund. Bullshit. Never going back there again. Don't waste money there when you can get it for the same price with good quality and better service. read more
