I woke up to the sound of running water when there shouldn't have been any such sound! I searched for the source inside and out side and finally found that a supply valve to my sprinkler system had basically fallen apart. I called Able Plumbing and the very nice office staff assured me that they would have someone out today. Bryan B. was the plumber who showed up and he was exactly on time. He arrived with a truck full of parts and quickly formulated a plan for fixing it with three different options! Bryan was fast and thorough and I had my water back on in short order. I had a problem with my electrical junction box at my house. Able Electric quoted over $3000 to replace the entore thing. I called a 2nd licenced electrician (Shields) who quoted $1000 for the exact same work...although Shields said they COULD replace the box, they didnt need to. They replaced a couple off parts and I was good to fo for less than $100. read more

I made an appointment about three weeks ago. On the date of the appointment (today)which was for 9am I called them at 9:34 concerned that the electrician had not shown up. I was told he was working on a job from the prior day and that he wouldn't be able to be at my appt until after noon sometime and would call before he came. I contacted them again at 2:30p and said I am still waiting and they said they called me but I didn't answer so he went to his next job but will call him to see if he could still come after. They called back and said they would have to reschedule because I didn't answer my phone, therefore he would not make my appointment. Oh, NO, I am furious! When you make an appointment that means you plan on them showing up on the date/time of the appointment! First THEY pushed my appointment time back... second they knew I would be waiting as I told them that when they didn't show up at the original scheduled time. So now they want to reschedule? Because I didn't answer my phone?Yes, I will reschedule with another company! Bad business etiquette! I wasted my day off work waiting for them to show up! What a ripoff - they charge an arm and a leg for simple tasks and then try to sell you a membership. To make a long story short, they wanted $240 to fix the air gap on the dishwasher. I did it myself in 10 minutes for $3. I recommend you stay away from these guys. read more

I have used Able Plumbing several times to do small jobs. Each job could be completed within the hour of the initial service charge, plus parts. The persons who did the work were very pleasant, did good work and did it quickly. I was happy with these experiences. Several months ago I had an electrical job. I called Able and two other electrical contractors to get bids. Able was the highest bid. I was told that it was a fixed price bid regardless of the time taken. The bids that I got from the other contractors were lower. After the job was done, my cost was less than half of the Able bid. My advice on a larger job is to get bids. I believe that Able's fixed price model might turn out to cost more than jobs done on the clock. I give Able only three stars. This has nothing to do with the skill and abilities of the workers, but the bidding. It seemed strange to me that Able's fixed bid was twice as high as either of the other bids. Able was the only one of the three contractors that charges me to make a bid. read more

I contacted Able for some electrical work I wanted done for a kitchen remodel. This was a very simple job that would take a skilled electrician about 1 hour to complete. The technician quoted me $1275.00 to complete the job. I chose not to pay this outrageous amount but still had to pay the $49.00 for the quote. I went down to my local hardware store and spent about $ 10.00 in supplies and completed the job in about two hours. I would highly recommend getting multiple quotes as this companies prices seem to be highly inflated. On a positive note, the technician was very friendly and professional. Update: I was contacted by the technician, who again was very friendly and professional, and he refunded the service call charge. I greatly appreciate the refund and hold no hard feelings. read more

My family has been loyal to Able in the past. Their customer service used to 5 star. However, we recently had both a plumbing and electrical issue (an issue that we had them service before) and I was surprised at their unwillingness to help us. Able serviced our kitchen sink and we had some electrical work completed. Our sink was clogged again, and when we called back we were told that because the service previously was over a year ago, we would have to pay the full price. Our last service was over $600.00 I felt that the issue was a temporary fix, and Able should at least offer us some type of reduction. There pricing is different anyway. They don't have flat rates, they basically give you 3 different price options for whichever service. Hope was just very unhelpful, and didn't offer us anything but a full price trip for both the plumber and the electrician. Our family, and all of my neighbors and colleagues will take our business elsewhere. read more

I too was ripped off by Able. They also do electrical. I asked them to come out to fix two outdoor lights. They explained that they would come out and give an estimate and that there's a $49.00 charge for the estimate which would be waived if we had the work done. The tech came out and explained, in order to find the problem he would have to run a diagnostic test of some sort which would cost around $250.00. I told him no and I was still stuck with paying the $49.00. Why couldn't they have told me about this test before coming out? I guess it's so either way they'll get some money from me. Do not call Able Plumbing of Chico. You'll end up paying more. 1 - Able Plumbing & Electrical is the only company in Butte County that charges for estimates. 2 - After receiving an estimate from Able I contacted another company. The other company did a great job on fixing my problem and charged nearly half the amount Able wanted to charge. Bottom Line: Able Plumbing & Electrical in Chico, Oroville, Paradise, etc, is a rip off. You can get free estimates from the other companies and you can get the work done for a lot less with the other companies. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They are totally dishonest and completely ripped me off. They took advantage of the fact that I live out of the area and have a rental house that I am renting to tenants. I had a very very minor problem in the kitchen where the spray nozzle attached to the spray hose in the kitchen sink needed to be replaced, it was leaking. They charged me $186.00 dollars to replace a $10.00 nozzle, which took only a few minutes of labor to do! All he had to do was screw off the old nozzle, and screw on the new one. Then they had the gall to try to get me to spend over $500 to replace the entire kitchen sink, which didn't even need to be replaced. Thankfully I did not fall for that ploy! They ripped me off, extremely dishonest business. They also did not detail the labor and parts charges on the receipt, they just wrote the total price down, which I know for a fact is an illegal practice! Again, this company took advantage of me, and the fact that I live out of the area, and couldn't be there in person to monitor what the plumber was doing!! read more

We recently had someone come out to install a 220 outlet for range. He said he would line it up so the range would be flush with the wall. Well he didn't. he put the outlet in upside down so the range was not flush with the counter. Just plain lazy work. Then a few days we had a horrible gas smell. PG&E was called and agreed we had a gas problem. The problem was the Able plumber did not properly tighten the connector cord. A very rookie move. Nothing like waking up to a freezing cold shower! This morning our ancient water heater finally expired and there was no urging it back to life. Maybe people are accustomed to having them do quality work, judging by other reviews I have read here. But, not for me. Back in November 2017, had them come out to fix electrical outlet problems in one of our rooms. Resolved to the tune of $488 and told my wife at the time that we shouldn't have any more problems. Well, we did with the exact same outlets. They sent someone out to investigate, but after checking they said they could not find the problem...company would have the person from November contact us and arrange to come out and investigate. He never called back. I finally called company and was told BS about me not having a full electrical assessment done in November, an option that would have cost me much more. This was in spite of the fact that the 'electrician' said we shouldn't have any more problems. I was upset about this and arranged for a company manager to call back. He did but just went around in circles about how they are not responsible for my whole house wiring and that this problem must be different. BS, to me. I have never had a worse experience with a contractor! Our water heater went out, and at the recommendation of a friend, called Able Plumbing. They showed up late, were unable to fix the hot water heater on the first day, had me buy another part, which also didn't fix the problem. The employee that came out to do the work did shotty work, didn't seem to be very capable and above all was rude and disrespectful to me in conversation blaming me for the issues he was running into. While all of this could probably have been overlooked and chalked up to a stressful, unfortunate series of events, the employee left the gas on when he left, filling my home with gas over night! When I called to express my concerns, the manager was short and rude, and told me that "it couldn't happen" so I was clearly in the wrong! read more

My husband is pissed that the guy from Able Home Services (Able Plumbing and Electrical) loosened the rings on the pipes under our kitchen sink in order to cause a slow leak while they were in our home doing ELECTRICAL work. We found many ABLE stickers under our kitchen sink and when we contacted the company later and asked what they were doing under our sink, they had all kinds of excuses. Now we have water to clean up and all we had to do was tighten the pipe rings by hand, and turn the one handle they loosened to make sure it was tightly closed. These criminals try to sabotage people's home so you'll call them back out to fix the problems! That's why they put all the stickers all over the place too. Whenever we have an issue we know we can call them up and not only will they fix it ASAP, they give us a great price as well. Just got off the phone with them. Tried to get someone to come out and look at plug so I could give my landlord a quote on replacing it with a 220amp plug for and electric dryer . They said they would need to get permission from the landlord to come out tto quote me . I explained that the that the landlord has full knowledge of the electrical plug, that the would only be LOOKING, and giving me an estimate.. Not actually taking anything apart or performing any work just yet. They said they could not even do that. I even offered to pay the 40$ estimate fee upfront(knowing I'll just be reimbursed by my landlord) and nothing. The lady I spoke with was not rude at all, its more the business practice that makes no sense. I mean if it came down to it when they showed up that they in fact had to remove anything for inspection, then id understand, and I'd even get them WRITTEN permission . But nope. I contacted Able Plumbing to fix a plumbing problem. The scheduling process went very well and the plumber was out the same day and on time. The problem was the price quote on the repair. I was quoted over $600.00 to replace a pressure regulator. I knew the regulator cost was about $100.00 or so and there would be a few fittings needed and the job should take about an hour. This meant they were getting over $450.00 in labor. I was told by the plumber that they don't charge by the hour but by the job. Needless to say I had to find another plumber. I found a local licensed plumber who did the whole job for a total of $200.00. It cost $115.00 for the regulator and $85.00 for the service call and labor. Able's service was good but the price was way out of line. read more

Recently, during the height of this year's only storm, I received a call from my property manager that a sump pump designed to remove water from the front of my rental was failing. He installed a small and temporary pump to avoid further damage to the garage and potentially the house. Being out of the area, I checked Yelp and decided to contact Able Plumbing and Electrical. I am thrilled to report that from my first contact with Hope(the outstanding receptionist) to the last call from Dale telling me that everything was working with a new junction box and a new pump(unfortunately), I felt confident with their ability and expertise to solve this problem. Both technicians were instructed to give me a detailed phone call from the site before starting the repair, even though I had authorized some $$ limit expenditure in order to expedite the procedure. I have hired Able twice and both times I have been very pleased. The first time they came out was because my bathroom drains were backing up with gray water. It was pretty yucky. It turned out the clog was in part of the piper underneath our front yard. It was a troublesome clog and they couldn't clear it through our clean-out. But they replaced the chunk of lawn perfectly and you can't even tell it was ever dug up. They kept me informed of everything and explained exactly what was going on and what my options were. After working outside in the heat all day, they were finally able to clear the line. It was a pretty nasty clog, to say the least. The whole job cost about $500. Unfortunately I will have to replace the line eventually because it is so old and is starting to deteriorate (it called an orangeburg line, which is made of an inferior material), which will be an expensive job (they quoted about $4000). They charge by the job and what they do, not by the hour, so even though they had to be here all day to clear the stubborn clog, the price only reflected the type of work they performed. The second time they came out was for a leaky toilet. I had attempted to do a diy fix of the wax gasket, but it didn't work for very long and the toilet started leaking by the base again, so I decided to let a professional handle it. Before getting to work on it, the serviceman gave me a quote on each possible scenario, best case to worst case. I was very happy when it turned out to be the easiest and least expensive fix. He said he prefers it that way too because he gets paid the same no matter what, but he has to stand by his work. It is reassuring to know that there isn't an incentive to go with the pricier fix. He showed me exactly what he was doing, and again took the time to explain what was going on with my gasket, flange, etc. This job cost $260 bucks. So even though he wasn't here long, that was just the flat rate for the kind of work he performed. Bottoms line is that although Able may cost more than some of the competition, I think they're worth it. They are very professional and courteous, and their policies and price guides are clear. They let you know what your in for as best they can before beginning work. I also appreciate they're high standard of customer service. The servicemen I have worked with have all been very polite and well groomed. I feel confident in the work they have done at my house and will continue to call on them in future, but I hope not anytime too soon! read more

They have a one year warranty on water heaters and installation. A little over one year water was coming out of the fittings they installed on the new water heater. They used cheap galvanized fittings to plumb the water heater with instead of using bronze or brass to save money and electrolysis they created ate completely through the galvanized fittings. Had another plumber come out and fix, they verified cheap galvanized fittings, replaced Able Plumbing parts. Nice guys using cheap parts to save a buck. Find another company! read more

I have used Able Plumbing at two different houses within the last year. The first incident was a burst pipe in the bathroom while we had company for dinner. Able sent someone over right away who was able to completely fix the problem in a timely manner. Yesterday I was pulling some cabinets at a house I just purchased and realized there had been leaking water under there for some time. The floor was all rotten. I put a bucket under the leak over night and came back the next day to see even more water on the floor. This water was coming also from the hot water heater in the next room. Able sent someone out right away again (in fact, the same plumber! Ramon is the best). There were actually a number of issues with regard to plumbing at the new house that we suspected and Able was able to confirm. They stopped the leaks, put on new hoses and valves, pulled the hot water heater and wrote an assessment of the situation to provide to the pest inspection people that never noticed the rotten floor or leaks. It's a wonder that water heater wasn't sitting in the crawl space today. There was no pan under it and it wasn't strapped in addition to the monster leak that had been going on some time. Ramon was also very knowledgeable about my options for replacing the hot water heater. We were planning on installing solar panels. He discussed the different methods of solar hot water heaters as well as on demand and gas versus electric. He was very patient and professional. Over all the cost was about what I expected and, even though I had hoped for lower, I was happy with the fee. I've had cheaper plumbers do work on my house and it is very much a case of you get what you pay for. Frankly, I don't intend to ever call another plumbing or electrical repair company.
