VERY interesting pricing model. They start you off with several 'options,' none of which are cheap (or necessary). I had a 150$ easy to replace part and wasnt home to replace it so GF called these guys. Came home to a bill over a thousand dollars. Apparently this is their minimum to roll on the job (they say its 89$, you be the judge). Which may be fine for some peeps but i found it excessive for replacing a simple gas igniter. read more

got saw how the office was run. if you get on the secretaries bad side they'll label the address and matching phone number in the file as a DNS do not service. that's one thing but they'll never say that, they wont service you they'll just keep rescheduling your appointment until you decide to cancel. kinda scummy, especially since there's like 3 people handling the phones. they aren't tracked on calls per minute or appointments canceled by the company compared to customers. the owner and manager also sit about 5 ft and 10 ft away to listen to call so the whole process is unneeded and wastes your time. all it comes down to is if you got mad at them one random call or something like that not even if you had and issue with the actual plumber, just be honest with people. read more

Kitchen sink was backing up when we ran the dishwasher the week before Christmas when we had 20 people coming. I called and they were really nice on the phone and had a technician out that morning, which was such a relief! Trevor, the technician was really nice and had the job done quickly. My mother who is 90 called and asked Able Plumbing if they could install a new kitchen faucet. My mother had already purchased the faucet in advance, cleaned out everything under the cabinet to make it easier for the replacement. Tanner stated that it would cost over $700.00 to install new valves and the faucet, to which my mother stated that the valves had just been replaced and just needed the new faucet to be installed. It took him just a little over an hour to replace the faucet, then proceeded to charge her over $422.00, without mentioning the senior discount they profess on their website. When the office was called they stated that each technician has a booklet that allows them to set the price. The receipt that was left did not provide any breakdowns of materials, labor or time spent. I will never employ Able Plumbing to do any future work. read more

I was caring for my mom just after she was home from the hospital when she had two major leaks. My parents had used Able Services previously for some handyman and electrical services so I gave them a call. They were not able to get anyone out that day but could get us on schedule for the following day. In the meantime I had the water company out to turn the water off and they recommended another plumber (Big D's who was good and repaired one leak in an outside pipe inside the hot water heater closet but couldn't/wouldn't open the wall inside the house "for liability reasons." He said if I got someone to open up the wall he could then repair the leak.) I contacted Able Plumbing again to confirm they were coming out the next day and to let them know of the updated situation. Asked if their plumber could "open the wall" and if not could they also send along someone that could. Their plumber COULD do everything! And WOW! Did he ever!! Ben was the plumber that came out and let me tell you, I've not met a more dedicated, honest, workaholic, with OCD tendencies (in a great way) service professional in a very long time! He fixed the leak and took care of things as if he were doing the repairs on his own home. He was super friendly and cleaned up the area beyond my expectations! There was another problem (small landscaping/irrigation leak) that had been ongoing for over a year. Mom wanted to get a bid on getting that fixed. We wanted Ben to do it. He was busy on another job and then out sick but we waited for him to be available (and the price was extremely reasonable so we had him do the repair!). Able works from a price book which is great because you know you're getting a fair price. You don't feel like some contractor is sizing up your personal financial situation and then deciding what they can get away with charging you. Some time passed and it turns out the wax ring seal on that upstairs toilet didn't hold and we developed a leak that ruined the downstairs ceiling drywall. It was a slow drip. Fortunately, we caught it before any mold set in. We had them back to assess and fix it. Since they were the ones who set the toilet in the first place, I requested a discount but they declined. So, that cost us an extra several hundred bucks (it was several months ago now so I forget how much), not to mention the ceiling repair. A free repair would have been above and beyond (upgrade to 5 stars), a discount might have been expected (no update to review), but another expensive bill is bad service in my opinion. Note regarding the failure of that toilet wax seal: it's the bathroom used predominantly by my kids, weight 55 lbs and under, and even the adults in the house max out at 150 lbs. It shouldn't have failed under these conditions. read more

Called an electrician to come out and fix a bedroom and kitchen light. Both wouldn't come on out of nowhere. Tech came out and determined it was the dimmer light switch in the bedroom. Didn't have a replacement part, installed an old flip switch but then said he could "show me how to install a dimmer myself" if I wanted to. I didn't hire a tutor. Fixed the ballast in the kitchen which worked for about a week then went out again. All the while doing this, all he was trying to do was get me to buy LED fixtures. If you're going to roll out to do a job, make sure you have the proper equipment and tools to do so and not try to sell the customer something that he doesn't want the whole time you're working. I'm not even bothering calling back to try to have them come out and fix this because if this is your initial level of service, I would hate to see your secondary. *** Owner called after posting and made it right. Didn't come at me with a "no, you're wrong" attitude like some do. Which means he has integrity and not a whole lot of people do these days. Will use again but will ask for his best tech only. read more

It was November, Two days before Thanksgiving and the Kitchen sink wouldn't drain. I believe homes have souls and they sense when there are too many people in the house or when someone treats them a way they're not used to being treated. Somewhat like a finickey old car you must tinker with. I must have done the wrong thing to the sink and it refused to cooperate with me. We tried Drain-o, I know it's a no no but it's easy, it didn't work. There was an ad on the Fridge...One hundred dollars, any drain. At the rate I was going, I was going to spend that on Draino. So I called. The dispatch woman said, "when do you want them?" Now. Now would be good. They had someone there within three hours. It wasn't one hundred dollars. It was about $250. The guy had to take the roto rooter on the roof and snake down the air vent. The outside air temps were in the thirties and I could see the frost on the roof. The plumber gave me some tips for freeze proofing some of the outside pipes and the pump, as temps were expected to drop to the twenties that night. The plumber even put on paper surgical booties before he entered the house. Too cute. So there were some pluses for the business but be aware, or beware, it's not $100 any drain. Bottom line, the sink was working fine Thanksgiving day and the pump did not freeze. read more

Just charged her for going out there and saying that all kinds of things needed to be done to correct the problem. $333 was just to snake the pipes...whatever. Glad they did nothing. read more

Great and quick service for both plumbing and electrical. Needed replacement sink, faucet, plumbing and added garbage disposal. Kyle did the estimate and the work. Electrical wiring was installed by Duane and his apprentice to put in the disposal. They offered various solutions and even were willing to mention possible concerns other than what I called for (without any pressure to hire them to fix). They were very good with communication. I have faith they did a very quality job with high quality parts. read more

Alex is the reason we will use Able Plumbing and Electrical in the future. This man deserves company recognition as well as a raise. We returned home from Labor Day weekend to plumbing issues and were unable to use either of our toilets or showers. Alex came over after hours and stayed for 2 hours until our pipes were clean. At one point Alex told us that the machine he needed to use was a two person job. Alex could have gone home for the night, had dinner, enjoyed his evening, and scheduled us an appointment for the following day, but instead he stayed to help and called in another technician, Tate, after hours to come help us. I was both gracious and pleasantly surprised at how willing both Tate and Alex were to stay until our plumbing was no longer a problem. Both men worked diligently and were nothing but polite and respectful throughout the job. I am so appreciative for the hard work and dedication both men demonstrated yesterday. Before he left, Alex walked us through a range of options to remedy any of our plumbing issues in the future. He was both knowledgeable and informative. Able Plumbing and Electric just left my house. I had called them to hook up a new dryer. The reception person at the office and the person who came out were very personable. However, I was charged $80.00 for the electrician to remove a small plate on the back and switch a wire. Even though they have a minimum, I understood that the dispatch fee would be applied to the cost of the work. Maybe it was, but this was very high considering what he did. Further, and this is what really made me angry, the person who came politely told me he could not hook up the flexible dryer hose because he only does electrical. I was under the impression I would have a functional dryer by the time he left. The people in the office should have told me I would still be high and dry even afterwards. Beware, they're way too overpriced! I'm in my sixties and have done business with a lot of business with service/contractors. In fact, many of my relatives are contractors, but, unfortunately they aren't in my area. These guys were a new experience for me. I had a fluorescent light fixture quit because I broke one of the clips that holds the bulb in. By the time I get through, he tells me I need a new ballast. They told me it would be $49 whether they fixed it or not. So I'm over the proverbial barrel. Keep in mind this is a light fixture that was 25 years old and probably cost between $10 and $20. The guy then tries selling me on putting in two canned lights for about $600. I ended up getting the old light fixed for $272 (two small plastic parts and a $30-$40 ballast)! It took less than 30 minutes to fix. I guess I should have just eaten the $49 service fee. What a bunch of crooks. read more

Sorry to write a negative review but I was recently charged $349 for a simple ceiling fan installation. The ceiling was only 8 feet high and the bedroom was vacant. My choice was pay the $49 estimate and then call someone else or pay the high price. Since it was a rental property and our tenant was about to move in, we decided to go ahead and pay the high price. The technicians were very nice - I just think $349 is too much to pay for less than an hour's work. 11/3/15 Tom (owner) contacted me and reimbursed me for a large part of what I had paid. I am now satisfied that I paid a fair price and the work they did was excellent. I really appreciate being contacted by the owner and making this right! ...DC read more

Punctual & courteous but shoddy work. I had to hire another Electrician to clean up their after they finished. The job was to install a 220 outlet. They installed it but they didn't recess the outlet into the wall, making my appliance stick out an extra 3-4" (the appliance was my gas range/electric oven) so it looked awful in the kitchen. They charged me $750. AND I needed to have another electrician come and fix their inferior work. I won't call Able again...they weren't able. read more

This will be a multi-part review, starting with our weekend experience, through Monday's initial service call. So far, Able gets 5 stars. Let's get real about something: Plumbing has been around for 2000+ years, so most plumbers have it figured out already: Shit rolls downhill, and payday's on Friday is the Plumber's Mantra, right? But since the introduction of hot water heaters in the 19th century shouldn't the average plumber have a good grasp of water heaters as well as the aforementioned basics? Well, not so fast there, bucko. In or around November of 2009 I had a fancy $2000 Navien 210A Tankless Water Heater installed. These have not been around for 100 years, but rather several decades in Europe and Asia. Consequently, there are fantastic plumbers in the US who have little or no experience with Tankless Water Heaters. I have no idea what it really cost as it was part of a new furnace and 3 zone HVAC upgrade, but I'd suspect it was about $3000 of the ~$7k total. This is about normal; the heater currently retails for about $2125 but you can steal it from Amazon for a paltry $1,455.08. Typical installs of this type and quality of heater run about $2800-$3200, so apparently it's not an easy job. I won't get into the circulation or "circ" pump portion or this heater other than to say that's it's never really worked. However, on occasion the heater itself has simply ceased to function, but until recently it's always been cured by a call to the HVAC company that installed it. TIP: When having plumbing work done, call a plumber. Heaters, Air Conditioners, and Ventilation Systems are not water heaters. Last week we had someone come out three days in a row to fix our heater, and within hours after the repair was effected, the temperature sank to that of ice water. Finally, on Saturday - great day to call a plumber, right? - we started calling around to get some ideas as to our next move. I desperately reached out to an old friend on Facebook - the only plumber I've ever personally known - and got some good tips. We then called 4-5 local plumbers, and 3 got back to us. One of them was Bryan at Able Plumbing. It was apparent that Bryan had loads of experience with this tankless water heating apparatus, as he's been servicing them for 10 years. Given that he is 31 and has been plumbing since he was 20, this guy has spent most of his career servicing these watery flamer throwers. Other guys had suggestions and ideas as to the problems, but were somewhat mystified by the technology and tech support process that is part of owning these devices. Bryan was much more matter of fact in the requirements for maintaining them: 1. The installation requires at least a 3/4" gas pipe, larger if it's far from the main gas line, otherwise the heater won't work. There are a few other basics, but if the install basics aren't right, you don't have a water heater. 2. You MUST call tech support and diagnose all problems with them on the line. Doing so alone will yield a zero sum return. Pretty short list, right? We made it through the weekend after leaving a message to have Able Plumbing call us first thing Monday morning. Around 10:30am on Monday, Bryan showed up, we shot the breeze, then he went to work. Navien tech support has a reputation for belittling their customers (even the people who SELL their equipment!) but Bryan scored a happy staffer. They went through everything, and in the end, after three calls, he had Navien sending us a few choice parts for free, which will require Bryan's expertise to finish the job. He wasn't familiar with Navien before he got to our home, but most of it looked like others he's serviced, and with the tech support team at Navien, we were soon up and running. The water is hot, but Navien wants these parts replaced on their dime, so we're going for it. Sure, we'll have to pay Able for Bryan's time, but I must say, it's amazing what you can get done when someone knows what s/he's doing. Nice? Yes. Congenial? Yes. Knows what the hell they're doing? Apparently so. Part II: The parts showed up the next day, and so did Bryan. Amazing service. He started installing things and found some serious deficiencies in the installation, but never once said anything bad about the original installers. He later admitted to installing about a dozen units in 10 years, because they are just too darned expensive for his market to support. In the end, we paid a tad under $700 for a lot of time diagnosing, installing and fine tuning this heater. There were even some plumbing errors made during the installation that needed to be corrected, but now I realize that my lousy water heater wasn't lousy at all, just misunderstood. We received a postcard form Bryan thanking us for our business, which is a nice touch. Really an outstanding company, and we're very please with their service. read more

ABLE did some work for us almost 4 months ago. It seems a little odd to write a review this long afterward, but every time I see one of their trucks or an ad for them, I still get mad so I need to speak my mind. For the work i originally had them do, I would love to give them 5 stars. ABLE came to give us a quote on running a gas line. They were a little pricey but I felt good about paying for quality work. While they were here I asked out of curiosity how much it would cost to do PEX throughout our 2,000 square foot home. The quote was pretty reasonable so I ended up having them do it. They came back the next day and completed both projects by that afternoon. At the time I felt they did a great job, and my wife even left a 5 star, very positive review. Kyle was our guy and he was very good to us. Then the fun began. Later that day, the washing machine overflowed. They sent some other guy back out, who said our drain was clogged. He gave us something to pour down there every so often, and said it was just a coincidence that it happened the same day they replaced our pipes. He was condescending to my wife and left without offering to help clean up the flooded laundry room floor. Maybe it wasn't his job, but for the $7000+ that we gave ABLE a few hours earlier, you'd think it would be good customer service to help out. And maybe it was a coincidence that it backed up that day. There's no way to say for sure, but it certainly seems like a stretch to me that their work had nothing to do with it. This should have been the end of our dealings with this company, but then we lost all water pressure in our house. We called them back out and Kyle decided he thought it was our well. To his credit, he tried really hard to diagnose and fix our problems. He really was very courteous and sympathetic. I just really wish he would have said earlier on that he was in over his head and that we should call an expert. Ultimately that is what he told us, but not until after we had forked over another 1600 bucks. When I got a well guy to come check out our pressure issues, he had it fixed in 30 minutes and charged me $139. Bottom line, very nice plumber, mostly high quality work, but just an unnecessarily expensive, overall bad experience for me. read more

So my story actually starts off pretty miserably (but it gets better!). I'd just moved in to a new house with a Reem Tankless Water Heater and the first shower I tried to take, it threw an error code and stopped working after 2-3 minutes. I looked on Reem's website and it said that Able was a Reem certified company so I called them and spoke with at least 2 different people 2-3 different times making very clear that I had a problem with a Reem product and they never once said anything about how they didn't work with Reem. They discussed it with me, set up appointements, answered questions, etc. Then the day that the plumber was supposed to come out (Bryan A.) he calls and says that he doesn't work on Reems and so there's nothing he can do. I. Was. Pissed. Mostly because no one up to that point had said they didn't work on Reems and now I'm a week deep of having to take 2 minute showers; not to mention dealing with all of this while I'm at work (at a job where I can't just leave in the middle of the day to go deal with issues at home). I was ready to chew everyone out when I spoke with Bryan again and he apologized for what was going on and explained that they had never signed on to be Reem certified, that they had only worked on a Reem previously and apparently Reem had taken it upon themselves to show Able on their website. After that, working with Bryan was amazing. He came out and looked at it to make sure that there wasn't anything he could do and offered some suggestions. After I couldn't handle the stupid thing (the water heater, not Bryan!) anymore, he was there the next day with a tank water heater and spent the day installing it. He went over the whole thing with me - use, maintenance, etc., and ever offered some suggestions about other stuff around the house. It was installed beautfilly and it's worked great for the last few months I've had it. I would have given a 5 star but I had to deduct one because of the people who told me in the beginning that it wouldn't be a problem to work on it, when that clearly wasn't true. But Bryan totally restored my faith after I was ready to curse everyone's name, haha. He was a total lifesaver and I really appreciate everything he did. Thanks Bryan! read more

I'm super mad and disappointed in this company. My elderly mom needed a float fixed in her toilets. She was charged $1,200 to put in 1 new toilet and do a minor fix on the other one! I wish she had asked me how much these things are supposed to cost before paying these people. Way to take advantage of an older woman. The guy told her it was some kind of a "special toilet" for hard water. She probably didn't even need a toilet replacement. Bulls*it. Do yourselves a favor, and stay away from this rip-off company. They never show up, much less "on time.' Able is utterly irresponsible as an organization. If you have a modest-sized job or an individual customer, they will jack you around endlessly. Their claim to be on time is such a joke. They will schedule for a whole day -- so they will choose when to show, but then they quite often do not show at all. So you have to be ready to welcome someone at their convenience from 8-5, and then they will call with an excuse. Most recently Dwain was "at lunch' -- all day, and never showed. Then they want to reschedule while, presumably, they are handling bigger projects. This is the worst company I have ever dealt with and we have been patient and persistent over months -- years now. read more

Called on a Sunday night around 9:30 for an emergency service and was connected to a lady who took down our info. She let us know that we would be contacted "shortly" by the plumber when he was on his way. After an hour went by we still had not heard anything and called again. At this point it was past 10:30 and we just wanted to go to bed and have our clogged toilets fixed. After talking to who I assume was the same lady, she sounded annoyed and said she would try him again. That was it. Another 30 minutes went by and still no word. Long story short they never even bothered to call back or check that we were helped. Horrible customer service and even worse communication. Definitely will not be using or calling in the future. read more

I had Able come out because we were getting very little hot water in our kitchen. and it was very slowly coming out. everywhere else in the house it was great pressure and HOT just not the kitchen. the tech came out and said it was my water heater and gave me an estimate for over $1700.00 that was a lot of money for them not being sure what the real problem was. My husband decided to spend some time trying to figure out what the real problem was, and found a kink in our line because whom ever put in our faucet crossed the line and put them in backwards. WOW... THANK YOU TO MY HUBBY! he is my hero... he saved us $1700. which really was not the problem at all :( and we would have been stuck had we gone through with it. read more
