Ben from Able Plumbing locating one of the leaks.
    Susi P.

I was caring for my mom just after she was home from the hospital when she had two major leaks. My parents had used Able Services previously for some handyman and electrical services so I gave them a call. They were not able to get anyone out that day but could get us on schedule for the following day. In the meantime I had the water company out to turn the water off and they recommended another plumber (Big D's who was good and repaired one leak in an outside pipe inside the hot water heater closet but couldn't/wouldn't open the wall inside the house "for liability reasons." He said if I got someone to open up the wall he could then repair the leak.) I contacted Able Plumbing again to confirm they were coming out the next day and to let them know of the updated situation. Asked if their plumber could "open the wall" and if not could they also send along someone that could. Their plumber COULD do everything! And WOW! Did he ever!! Ben was the plumber that came out and let me tell you, I've not met a more dedicated, honest, workaholic, with OCD tendencies (in a great way) service professional in a very long time! He fixed the leak and took care of things as if he were doing the repairs on his own home. He was super friendly and cleaned up the area beyond my expectations! There was another problem (small landscaping/irrigation leak) that had been ongoing for over a year. Mom wanted to get a bid on getting that fixed. We wanted Ben to do it. He was busy on another job and then out sick but we waited for him to be available (and the price was extremely reasonable so we had him do the repair!). Able works from a price book which is great because you know you're getting a fair price. You don't feel like some contractor is sizing up your personal financial situation and then deciding what they can get away with charging you. This company is very fair and honest and their employees are fabulous!

Really, really disappointed in the service I received today for a quote from Earl's and their…read moreplumber, Paul E. I called because of a leaky faucet handle and spoke with someone from their call center. The representative I spoke with was honestly one of the nicest customer service people I've ever talked to -- the few stars I gave are for them and them alone. I scheduled a 10 a.m.-12 p.m. window to have the leak checked and get a quote. I let my boss know I'd need to step away from work during that time and even offered to use my lunch break so I wouldn't miss additional time on a personal matter. I kept my phone right in front of me the entire morning -- and waited... and waited... and waited. When noon rolled around, I called customer service. The agent told me I had received a call and voicemail saying my window had been changed to 1-3 p.m. I hadn't received any call, voicemail, or text -- which I thought I would have at least gotten, since I did get a text confirming the original appointment. The agent didn't seem to care or believe me, and tried to rush me off the phone but first I asked her to confirm my number, and have the plumber text when he was on his way so I wouldn't miss him. Then I had to rearrange my lunch break again and get approval to leave work for a second time. At about 1:40 p.m., the plumber texted saying he'd arrive at 2. He showed up at 2:20. Great. I ended up getting back to work 30 minutes late from my lunch. When Paul arrived, I showed him the leak and explained that we rent -- so if it wasn't expensive, I'd just pay for it myself, but if it was, I'd need to contact the landlord. Paul asked, "Well, what do you consider expensive?" I just stared for a second, because I figured he should be the one telling me that. Then he asked, "How much can you -- or are you willing -- to pay to get it done?" Like I was on The Price Is Right. Not wanting to play the guessing game, letting him know I know absolutely nothing about plumbing or the cost I said, "I don't know, maybe $100?" He scoffed, looked at his tablet, and said, "$100? I don't have a single thing on this whole tablet for $100." I asked, "Okay, how much will it cost then?" Finally, he quoted nearly $300. I asked if I could make a quick phone call, and he said, "What are you going to phone a friend?" Excuse me? I explained I needed to talk to my husband because we have a budget. After my husband and I spoke, we decided the cost was too high for something that might fall under our landlord's responsibility. I told Paul we'd contact our landlord to handle it. He said, "So call him right now." I explained we hadn't notified the landlord of the leak yet, that we just discovered it and he'd want to inspect it himself first. Paul seemed visibly annoyed, took his iPad, headed to the door, didn't look at me and said have a nice day and left. I was honestly flabbergasted. This was my first time calling a plumber over something like this, and it felt like every "mechanic-as-a-woman" warning come to life -- being treated like I didn't know what I was talking about and ready to be taken advantage of financially. The irony is, I've had better experiences with actual mechanics, even the ones who might've been trying to upsell me were at least friendly. At first, I wasn't going to leave a review. Things happen; people have bad days. I didn't lose anything but time. But here I am -- why? Because I ended up fixing the leak myself after watching a couple of YouTube videos and buying a $15 tool. The plumber wanted to charge me $270 to replace an entire faucet system for no reason other than to take my money and act like I was wasting his time. And just to be clear, this was only supposed to be a quote. The phone rep even said that no work would be done unless we agreed on a price first. Unfortunately, what I got instead was a wasted day, a rude plumber, and a bad taste in my mouth. To wrap it up: Earl's might have a great call center, but my experience with their field service -- specifically Paul E. -- was frustrating, dismissive, and overpriced. If this is how they handle quotes, I can't imagine trusting them for a full repair.

I just couldn't believe it would be that much. I knew it would cost $49 dollars just to get him here to give me an estimate. So I refused. Without hesitation he lowered the price to $290. That was still a lot, but I agreed. I will say the man worked hard with an electric snake for a good hour. He fixed the problem. Unfortunately, I feel manipulated. I can only imagine that some people might fall for this bad business practice. Maybe this will help them when choose a plumbing service.

***Fraud complaint filed with credit company, California Attorney General, Rob Bonta, Paradise…read moreRidge Chamber of Commerce, with legal action pending*** I hired Attaboy Plumbing to address a clogged sink. Unfortunately, the experience didn't meet expectations. The technician required me to choose between three costly service options before examining the issue--a practice that felt unnecessarily pressured. Despite charging double the typical rate, they were unable to resolve the clog; the technician reported that his equipment malfunctioned during the attempt. They then quoted $4,000 for what they estimated as a few hours' repair that would be done by the end of the day. He didn't have a working drain snake, but he did have the ABS parts (inexpensive) to complete a full drain replacement at more than $1000 an hour. I sought a second opinion the same day from another professional plumbing company. The second company successfully cleared the drain for $328.72, including preventive treatment. They documented that the previous work hadn't addressed the actual problem and provided photographic proof of such with our receipt. UPDATE: I got the same "call me" from Michael T. Don't want to be cursed at again and already moving forward legally.
