My house was built in the 1960's and, from Fred Fred from Able Master's estimate, has never been snaked.

After hiring SMB to perform temporary roof patches after a tree fell on my house, I had asked them…read moreto come out and estimate the repair. They sent out a man named Bill to my house to meet the insurance adjuster. Bill asked if I had decided on a contractor to perform the repairs. I told him that I was waiting to get the estimate from the insurance adjuster and I need to get multiple quotes from contractors before deciding. After he learned that I wouldn't give him the job without consulting with other people he just decided to leave. I asked him why he wouldn't look at the house and he told my insurance adjuster to the face that I already have a contractor. He then told me to my face that he wasn't going to estimate the job just so my friend could do the job off of his estimate. He would not even give me a business card and left. My girlfriend not believing how rude he was called him the next day personally. He told her the same thing it was extremely rude on the phone. He said that he would not deal with us as customers and only our insurance company. My opinion is that he was going to try and get as much money out of my insurance company as possible and do the repair first cheaply as possible and pocket the rest. Bill ruined any chance that SMB had for getting this job. The job was quoted for over $40,000 worth of damage. I can only hope that SMB finds this review and talks to Bill about why he was so unprofessional and rude. Bill if you're reading this I hope you realize that you were in the wrong and you've got a lot to learn about dealing with people.

At the time my carrier was Progressive and they hooked me up with SMB. The gentleman who did the work was wonderful, very conscientious and meticulous. Now, six years later I misplaced all of the insurance information and called Progressive but they said they work with like 8 underwriters and without the name of the underwriter they couldn't help me. Called and spoke with the owner of SMB and asked for a copy of the work done. I explained I was selling the house and just wanted a copy of what was done. I have the certificate for a lifetime guarantee. What a nasty man to say the least. He said so sorry so sad can't help ya lady. I gave him one star for answering the phone.

He proceeded to tell me that I'm a "mean person" and "a coward behind a keyboard ". i asked several times for a price for work being done in my flooded basement. Their rep Mark finally told me $3000-$5000. 2 days later I called to see what the cost was and was told $7800+! I told Mark to pull their equipment. A few minutes later the owner Curtis called and acknowledged the mistake with an apology. He said " I'm sorry, he shouldn't have told you that". I paid my bill in full. After thinking about the whole fiasco, I posted reviews and filed a complaint with the BBB Asking for a refund of the difference. My mistake was not demanding a price in writing up front, and trusting Mark's word. Don't make the same mistake as me.

Beware of a business that verbally quotes one price, then actually charges you close to $3000 more…read more Don't make my mistake of trusting their word, get it in writing. Our basement was flooded. They were quick to respond and tear out the damaged flooring. Repeated requests for pricing was answered with "we need to get into things a little more before we can give an accurate amount, but it should be $3000-$5000". Dehumidifiers and heated fans were left running. Daily someone stopped for "readings", and to change the angle of the fans. Four days in, I demanded to know the pricing and was met with $7809.31. I told them to remove their equipment immediately!! Soon after, I received a call from one the owners, Curtice, who said "in good faith", he just couldn't remove the equipment and that it would only be about 24 hours before everything would be dry. He said he'd not charge anything else, but wanted it dry. This was on Thursday afternoon. Friday, a technician stopped to take some "readings", move some rugs to be dried, and said he'd be back Saturday between 12 & 1. At 2 I started calling to find out when he was coming. No answer and he didn't return voicemails. I called the office and asked the answering service to have someone call me. No call. Finally, hours later, I found the phone number for the representative, Mark(the one who quoted the price). He made some calls and wanted to send someone else at 5:30. Nobody could reach the original tech. I refused, as we had a prior engagement. The new tech, Zach, agreed to come the next morning and kept his word. The company has business cards, with information to write a Google review. I did. Co-owner Jeremy, called me today because he was concerned about my unhappy review. I explained the whole ordeal. He proceeded to insult me by saying "it's not my fault you're underinsured". This has nothing to do with my insurance, it has to do with someone charging almost $3000 over what they verbally quoted. Not once did I receive a courtesy call with pricing updates. He also proceeded to try to make me feel bad about the technician not showing up, or returning calls, because his mom "almost died from a heart attack". Soooo a responsible employee can't take 1 minute to call his boss to let him know? Jeremy tried to convince me that they just don't know the cost ahead of time, because "there are many factors to consider". Excuse me, but aren't they supposed to be professionals, with experience in this type of situation? Their Rep, Mark was in the basement and saw "all the factors" before any work began! By the way, as we're cleaning and putting things back to order, we're finding that things are not dry after all. If you put a wet plastic storage bin on the floor, and don't move it, it doesn't dry underneath! It's sad that they get away with this deception and there is nothing that can be done.
