I brought my keys in, and one said "do not duplicate". The woman that runs the place refused to duplicate. She told me she needed a "letter of authorization". (How would she even tell it's not a fake letter? Is she going to hire a private detective? This is a house key!) Anyway, I brought back a copy of the original key without the "do not duplicate" wording, and she copied it, but not without telling me how terrible quality the key was that she was copying. JUST COPY THE KEY LADY, I HAVE STUFF TO DO. In the end, she made me a copy, but what should have been a 5 minute run to this locksmith (I live nearby and I chose to shop locally) turned out to be a 1+ hour fiasco. Horrible lady who would not willing to make a key for me. The problem is that she would not like to explain why. So frustrated!!!

I called ABC locksmith this morning to find out if they could make a mailbox key for me using the code inside the mailbox. Unfortunately, the original and only key available was misplaced I suspect by my mom that has Alzheimer's so that's pretty much gone. Anyhow, the lady I spoke to immediately told me they could not guarantee the key would work just by using the code. I asked her why not and she basically said they would have to make upwards of 3 or more keys each for $3.99 to $20.00 and even then they couldn't make the guarantee that it would work. I would have been totally okay with that answer if she wasn't so damn rude with her delivery. She then proceeded to ask me how I got the key code inside the box in the first place if I didn't have the key. Well if you must know ma'am my husband chased down the mailman and asked if he could open the box so we could acquire the code. I'm literally just floored right now with the level of customer service which in my estimation was a big fat zero. Anyhow, I hung up with ABC and called Mario's Locksmith as it was next in line on Yelp. They were very helpful from the start and asked me to text them the information with the code and the model number of the mailbox. A few minutes later they let me know they could duplicate the key with no problems whatsoever. I'm getting two mailbox keys made for $20 bucks! Now that's what I call good customer service! The proprietor copied a key for me and it worked great. But I cannot recommend this place because I brought in my own blank motorcycle key purchased from the dealer and she said she had to charge me for the cost of the key and not just the duplication. This is plain and simply a bad business practice. I basically paid quadruple to copy a key. I gave her two stars because the key did work and she did give me the option of declining and going someplace else. read more

The old bat refused to cut my blank. When I asked why she said it's because she won't cut something she didn't sell. I told her I would pay for her blank and she can use mine. She refused. Just had the best experience! I was about to buy a new lock for my front door (about $80) but after looking at the old lock, she (the locksmith) advised me to just replace the inside mechanism - total cost $17!! - and to top it all, she spent another 5 mn explaining to me how to put it back together. I removed my ignition and headed to a local locksmith (not ABC) to have a new key made from it. The guy couldn't have been more rude and pessimistic as to his success likelihood. What was more frustrating was his not so subtle comments suggesting that I may not be the legal owner of the bike. "I'm just saying... this looks like it's been tampered with so I'm uncomfortable here." (it had most certainly NOT been tampered with). Anyway, long story short. I took it to Katy. Needed a key copied. It took 30 seconds and cost $2.50. Efficient and reasonable, but you need cash for purchases less than $10.

This place is an extremely small shop. I had been looking for a replacement commercial washer/dryer lock for about a week now. The places that I had been to, sold no such thing. I decided to give this place a shot because I was in the neighborhood. Yelp says they are closed on Saturdays, but the open sign was lit, and there was a man working at that time. I showed him my old lock, along with the cover for the washer/dryer, and he magically found a replacement. He even put it together for me. The cover that I had was bent out of shape, and he helped put it back to its proper shape using a hammer. This man was extremely helpful, and truly went the extra mile. Great customer service here. I paid $25 for the replacement lock, although I do not know the average value of it. I was desperately in need of one. read more

When Katy's Yelp listing was hijacked by a fraudulent locksmith dispatcher, I had the unfortunate experience of an unauthorized locksmith responding to my call and installing a used lock and leaving me with copied keys. Katy helped rectify the situation immediately. Katy's advice: If you want to protect yourself from such fraud, when someone shows up at your home to install a new lock or do any work, ask for a locksmith license number. I've found her to be the most competent locksmith i've seen since Ernie DeBaca was still working at Cliff's Hardware in the seventies. Wow. An old-school locksmith in my neighborhood. She rekeyed 4 locks in an hour as promised. She made 10 keys; every one worked. Her hours (10-5 M-F) aren't as convenient as Home Depot's, but Home Depot's locksmith leaves at 11 am (!) and they wouldn't stamp Do Not Duplicate on keys. I wasn't thrilled that the key blanks all say "ABC Locksmith" and her phone number, but then, if they all say "Schlage" that'd be advertising too. I was very happy with this experience. Brought my garage key in for my apartment building trying to get a duplicate. I explained I had a machine made one that only opened and didn't lock. The grumpy old lady said she couldn't make it. I asked why and she said she didn't have the key. Puzzled and staring at walls covered with keys I asked where I could get one? She remarked all snooty, China! Wow thanks lady!
