I can see or better yet taste why this place has 5 stars. The donuts are really soft and fresh. Had a sample of their iced coffee and that was really good but wouldn't recommend it if you don't like really sweet stuff. The only down side is they close early around 6pm on weekdays not to sure for weekends. ABC Donuts is the best donut shop in Downey. And not only are their donuts delicious and fresh, but they have a drive thru! You can swing thru on your way to the office and pick up not only a coffee and some fresh donuts, but they make a mean ham and cheese croissant. I personally like to drive up, order a thai tea and whatever is fresh out of the oven. Sam and Jenny, the super friendly owners, also have a clean area to eat inside. Speaking of cleanliness, not only are their donuts soft and fresh, but they have never, not once, had those questionable black flecks in them like other donut shops. What are those anyways? This is by far the best tasting Donuts I have been to. Among my favorite is their apple fritter that no one could surpass the taste. It is crunchy on the outside and chewy w/ lots of apple bits inside. Today I also had apple filled bar the last one on the display. It litterally melts in the mouth. The ham and cheese croissant is absolutely amazing. The croissant was not only delicious but so fresh I think they were baking it when I walked in. I'm sure this wasn't the case, but I will defiantly come back for their croissants!! Aside from that the interior was pretty normal for a doughnut shop and the coffee was nothing to write home about. Maybe it was the day and time I went (8am Sunday) but this place is nowhere near a good donut joint. I was looking forward to trying the buttermilk glazed after having Jays donuts in lomita(which is hands down the best!!) really disappointed... the donut was not fresh at all and had very little flavor. The apple fritter was decent but the rest was below average for the 8.25 I paid for a dozen. Fist time being here and right away was greeted and helped right away, I didn't get the lovely lady's name who helped me but I asked questions since it was my first time being there and right away she explained the prices for the breakfast sandwich. She was very polite and got my order right away and I was out of there in less than 5mins. It was pretty fast and she was very helpful and nice. The doughnuts are light and delicious and a great selection from Apple cinnamon bear claws to French curls to the lemon filled to the raspberry filled and everything in-between. I just left abc and the female cashier at the window was extremely rude. When my mother opened the bag to check our donuts she noticed we were given a bar instead of a cake donut. When my mother informed her, the cashier laughed at my mother for wanting to exchange to donut for the correct one, and said,while giggling, why you touch donut then? My mother had only opened the bag, and showed the employee the mistake. My family has been going to abc for 25 years and experienced the various changes in ownership but never once in our experience with ABC donuts have we been laughed at and treated rudely when correcting their mistake. ABC won my heart at the drive thru. Kept me at their great tasting donuts. This is my new go-to donut place. They also have parking if you want to walk in but the spaces are very limited. Best Donuts in Downey! Just started coming here recently. Sam is the owner and is extremely nice and gets to know all of his customers. There is also a drive thru which is super convenient and extremely rare for a donut shop! All of their donuts are delicious and made fresh every morning .
