Old school horseshoe shaped bar, older clientele, attached to a motel on the 101 across from the jail. This bar is awesome. They serve some decent food, too! The drinks are strong, and the bartenders are good at their jobs. You won't find any fancy mixed drinks here in the way of "mixology" or the like, but you'll find your basics well represented, with a few beers on tap too. Grabbed brunch today. Pretty decent chicken fried steak. Be warned regulars get preferential treatment. We came in, sat down and ordered our food. Two "regulars" came in, sat at the bar well after we ordered. BOTH got their food well before ours showed up. In fact one finished his food before ours showed up. Asked twice for iced tea refill, never happened. Over easy eggs on both our plates arrived with broken yolks cooked hard. Be nice if the bartender/server had spared just a minute or two from her BS session with the bar regulars to do the bare minimum for our table. Basically non-regulars have a cloaking device on as far as the server was concerned. Seems like great place to get hammered on a Saturday morning. I freaking love this place. Its a dive bar that servers huge good ass steaks. Came here with my husband for our honeymoon and sat next to great man that's a local and spoke to us about his interesting life. The nicest man you'll ever meet. Here are the best steaks in Humboldt County. Chargrilled to perfection would be an understatement. I always order the Porterhouse steak and am never dissatisfied. Many places can grill a steak rare as I like it, but this is one of the only which can chargrill it to a carbonized marvelous piece of meat. It's as they had walked a steer through a forest fire, gorgeous and black on the outside and juicy and red on the interior. Waitstaff professional and prompt. Drinks reasonably priced and STRONG! What a great place for adults! Heads up this place is 21 and over only. The food is fabulous and reasonably priced; and woman who runs the bar is a freaking boss! It is mostly bar seating. They do have some small tables along the perimeter of the room, but if you want a table you will need a reservation. My husband is a pretty large guy and found more comfort at the bar than a smaller table, for those who identify on the larger side. What I found was a bar area with seats and small tables surrounding the U shaped bar. No problem. Luckily there was enough seating for the six of us. Barely. Cool little place. The menu was scribbled on the chalkboard wall. I went for the gusto, got the 30oz porterhouse with a mix of fries/onion rings plus a side salad. Very very good steak. Cooked perfectly to my medium rare choice. Food was excellent and very reasonable prices. The poor waitress was running solo on a busy night but she kept the drinks topped off and remembered to check in with us every so often. My husband and I have been enjoying the AA for many years now. we always each order the 30oz. porterhouse steak. This last trip was our 26th anniversary and Lizzie took the most amazing care of us all night! she was quick, friendly and had the right amount of spark for the AA!! I always want to have the cheesecake but it's usually sold out. This time I was in luck but then I saw that it was Maple Bacon, which did not sound appetizing. Lizzie said that she highly recommended it and knew that we would love it. we brought a slice home and she was right! It was delicious just like the rest of our meal!! Service is a little slow and it can be confusing for new comers (do we sit and wait?) luckily when I came in, the bar wasn't too full, but I still felt like the waitress was busy with other customers... anyways, I ordered a Bloody Mary (my fav drink and I've had better, they were strong!) the porter house dinner and it was excellent!! The salad was simple and niche, but the steak was incredible! I ordered medium rare and it came out perfect. I'm not a fan of cottage cheese but for some reason it just works with a big, juicy steak! I'd put more emphasis on the word bar in the name of this restaurant. We walked in and walked straight back out to see if we were in the right place. Although we were "treated" to some truckers who used the n-word like a punctuation mark the bartender/waitress was enthusiastic and nice. We really enjoyed our ribeyes. Was really looking forward to this place based on the glowing reviews... but found yourself to be disappointed in the food. ---- Imagine walking into a dive biker bar, full of locals who with there look size you up. As soon as we walked into the door, everyone in the joint looked at us with a (you don't belong) gaze. Very uncomfortable feeling..... regardless we sat down and waited for our server. She informed us that only dinner was available and they would not be able to serve burgers... just steak and fried chicken. So, we ordered filets all medium rare. What we got was some well done jerky, this is not the type of place where I would feel comfortable sending things back to the kitchen so we just dealt with it. The best thing about this place was the fries.... and that is sad because the food is not cheap. I would NOT recommend this place at all... it is really a dive, smells like smoke and the food is gross. Save your money and find a real steak place. read more

This place is great. Delicious steaks and fantastic drinks. The one thing is that there is usually only one waitress, if that. If you demand speedy service or even special acknowledgement when you walk in on a weekend evening just don't go. Here's the skinny: It's a bar. It has great steaks, but it's a BAR. GIGANTIC! Breakfast is soooo soooo good! Pork chops and eggs, chicken fried steak, look at my picture of my egg ham and i opt for cheeseless english muffin sammy. You literally have a SLAB of ham about an inch think the slab is so big it doesnt fit the muffin! I hope one day to try lunch but never have! Everyone always raves about the burgers!! 5 stars because it is what you expect. They are what they are and they are good at it. My boyfriend's dad took us and another friend here last night. They all got stakes and I got the fish and chips. You get a LOT of steak here! Everyone enjoyed their stakes a lot (although no one was able to finish) and my boyfriend's dad thinks he will need to come back next time he is in town. My fish and chips was good- they were only lightly battered, not terribly fried to a crisp like most places do. The fish instead was still flakely and tasted and looked like fish. I got half onion rings and half fries, but I wish I had just gotten all onion rings. The salad that came with my dinner was okay, but I was impressed that I even got a salad in a bar with fish and chips...was not expecting that! Astoundingly bad steaks. My buddy and I went there for dinner earlier this year and we ordered a couple of filet mignons medium rare. I don't know if they were trying to mess up our steaks but mine was cooked to death, completely charred on the outside and slathered with salt and pepper. Literally all I could taste was salted peppery charcoal. My buddy's steak was the same way except for a completely raw bit that he was afraid to eat. This is really disappointing as I had been wanting to go to the double a for a long time couple my coworkers said it is their favorite steak place I have been really looking forward to finding a steak place of my own. Delicious steaks at very reasonable prices. I got the 20oz porterhouse and it was so tasty! Each steak comes with soup or salad as well as a baked potato, onion rings or fries. I got the rings and they were good. Good drink selection. It's not some fancy steakhouse if that's what you're thinking. It's old, dim, divey and delightful if you're into that sort of thing. This place is a MUST GO with 5 stars!!!! Best steak bar in Eureka!!!! My lady friend and I split a single order of top sirloin, well done. The location is more of a bar than a restaurant. Only three tables, but a huge horseshoe shaped sports bar which looked like a home away from home for many locals. Mostly white people, but my friend is Cambodian and was very welcome here. We arrived early on a Saturday afternoon. We asked for an extra plate for our split order and opted for soup vs. salad and ordered one more. Split pea soup had lots of ham and a few pieces of bacon. Soup served in small cups. You can have baked, mashed or french fried potatoes... we chose the fries and we're glad we did. Our steak was served with all the trimmings. Both the entree & the extra plate came with 2 paper butter cups. One has a small portion of cottage cheese which I like and was fresh. The smaller butter cup had about a tablespoon scoop of atomic horseradish which I also love, but the first corner of a spoon of it, brought tears to my eyes. The steak was poetic and seared to perfection! The AA Steak bar is on the Southbound (Westbound) side of Highway 101 on 4th Street in Eureka, just across from the big county jail and sheriff station. If you're driving Northbound (Eastbound on 5th Street) you'll need to go past the county jail and make a one block U-Turn. Been here a few times and it's normally great. But the last time we came in it was for a bday party. Reservation for 15 was made on a Monday and when we got there on Wednesday evening we were told they didn't have the filet, the pork chops, the 30oz porterhouse or the cheesecake. Seems to me, if you're expecting a big group, you'd have the items on the menu available. Almost everyone had to settle for something they didn't really want. Time for another review for this local crazy local dive across from the jail. My son and I have now been there about 7 times and it is still amazing. The best local atmosphere plus really really good food. Ribeyes, giant bone in T-bones and crazy good fried chicken. Still need to try the brunch.
