    Summerville Special
    Candie D.

I was initially enticed by the "Summerville Special" which if you look closely is just two papers - one with prices slashed indicating major savings, the second a list of "upgrades," most of which are absolute necessities. So basically, you're not saving any money here. As for the installation, get ready to wait at least a month as they only have one installer for ALL pool sales. A week after purchasing, I had to track down the installer myself because he never called to set up an installation date. Also I recommend contacting him a few days before to make sure he has all information necessary. We required a 6ft fence removal for an additional $100. Although it was previously documented, he was unaware of this task day of install. Also make sure you water hose is long enough. The installers are not responsible for removing any boxes which is quite a bit of trash. Nor are they responsible for huge patches of lawn removal or the 4ft pile of dirt left from leveling the land. This was a $600 additional cost to have removed by haulers hired separately. We did not replace any additional lawn removed which will inevitably add to future landscaping costs. If you do not have an electrical outlet in your backyard, you'll want to have one installed before your pool installation date as you will need electricity to run pool light and pump. We had one installed for $300. An impulsive purchase obviously comes with some surprises so I'm listing a breakdown of costs for the pool: POOL "SPECIAL" - $4,037 INSTALL UPGRADE -$556 INSTALL LABOR - $1,600 "POOL UPGRADES" -LIGHT - $162 -FROG LEAP KIT (chemicals) - $215 -IN POOL STEPS - $600 *NOT INCLUDED -ELECTRICAL OUTLET - $300 -DIRT/ TRASH HAUL - $600 TOTAL COST: $8,070 That's the bare minimum for the smallest 20'x12' Doughboy oval above ground pool. If you forego in-pool steps and use the ladder included, you're looking at about $7,500. When all is said and done, they did a great job installing the pool. It was a bit more of a financial investment than originally presented, but we are so happy to finally have our very own private pool. We are currently planning to install a wooden frame around the pool to modernize and make it look more appealing.

I was told by my mother that they were selling the easy set up above ground pools. My husband and I went to check out what they had ... we wanted something to help get us by once we closed on our new home until our professional pool could be put in. The easy set up pool was on sale for $300. It was 18'x48". They instantly tried to upsale a filter that was also $300 (with a $50) discount if bought together. We opted out of the filter just in case the pool had any issues because neither were returnable. We purchased the pool on May 16th. The pool was not opened until the 27th (right after closing on the new house!!! We cleared the ground and unfolded the tarp after reading what few instructions that came with the pool and watching several instructional videos. We immediately noticed a small slice in the tarp. Decided that it would be ok since the pool would not hit that area. We did everything by the book. We got the pool about a 1/3 full and thought it seemed like water was seeping out on one side. We thought maybe it was a simple reason. We also knew we had to make a trip to the pool place once the pool was full to get help with the water. The pool filled over night - today we took our water sample to the store to get checked. Explained the situation. We were told there was no way to know when the pool was actually set up. They offered a free repair kit and basically gave no instructions on how to repair the whole on the bottom, we bought $100 worth of chemicals and a few other small things. We headed straight over to add the chemicals. We did our best to add the PH chemicals. I noticed that every single seam on the pool is leaking as well a small puncture on the side wall. As you can see we hadn't even opened the ladder yet so not one person had been in the pool. The weather made us Decide to cover the pool until at least tomorrow and what do we find in the cover? Yet another hole!! I did try to remedy this situation but was told there was nothing they could do. I am very disappointed! As of today I have tried 7 times to call and speak with a manager about this situation just to simply find out who the manufacturer of this particular pool is with no result so far.

The people make the difference. It's that simple. Chris, Tammy & Wulfe (sp?). Examples of why it's about "the people". Never felt like I was being up sold. I was listened to, took seriously, even though I knew only a small amount of what I needed to. When I said i wanted to spend 2/3 of my money on easy maintenance, and 1/3 on aesthetics, the plan they returned with was exactly that. They sold me a slightly smaller, less costly version of the pool I wanted, cause they thought it would be better for the space. (and they were 100% right) When I signed the contract, and they had my money, I heard from them MORE not LESS. (let that sink in) It's 9 months later, when I have a question, no matter how big or small, I have an answer usually the same day, if not in just a couple of hours. And let me be clear, the process isn't 100% easy. Construction/installation NEVER is on any project of this size. But when we hit the small hiccups, I never once worried that it wouldn't be taken care of. You can't pay enough for that kind of "mental peace". So yes, they are the only place to get Doughboy pools (all my research pointed to them), and they have GREAT spas to choose from. But they make sure what you get, is what you will need/enjoy/be the right fit. They are in it for the "long run", not to make a quick buck. And they are in it WITH us for the long haul! This pic will look even better in the summer!

Same pool on eBay for $698 not $2400.00!

Inflation at its best! These people are crooks! Their trying to sell the Intex 15x 48 Metal Frame Above Ground Swimming Pool for $2400.00 lol! Walmart and Amazon has it for $700! When my husband questioned the high price and why they were selling it for $2400.00 when even the A-TEX website had it for $500 he laughed and said good luck find it anywhere. Well we did and for $649.00! We went in there with the intention to buy an above ground pool, but quickly realize their crooks and all their prices are inflated and taking advantage of the COVID stay home situation. He even made a comment that they been the busiest they have ever been, which I guess makes him think that people are desperate and can scam them in to buying a $500 pool for $2400! Not us tho!

A-Tex Spa Jet Repair Aftermath, no clean-up at all
    Stephen M.

I had a fairly poor experience when working with A-Tex's support team. I had a spa that was purchased from A-Tex by the previous homeowner. When it began leaking, I determined I should have the registered dealer in the area (A-Tex) fix it. Note, I had already done a considerable amount of work in de-foaming and removing the cabinet. There really wasn't anything to 'diagnose'. It was a pretty straight-forward 'fix these leaks here' job as I had done the hard work for them. I started by attempting to contact them through their website form. After about a month of no reply, I called. The Support phone number rarely if ever is answered (from my experience). So, I had to call the number for the sales department. As you might suspect, it was answered every time. After multiple calls, someone finally returned my call. The woman was apologetic, and offered to send a technician out on a Saturday to inspect for leaks. The technician arrived that Saturday, took 15 minutes to look at the tub, collected his $87.50 service fee and left. After several back/forth discussions A-Tex would not commit to a cost estimate. In-fact, they attempted to just schedule the repair without even quoting a cost at all. I eventually had to set a 'not to exceed' budget cap with them. I honestly don't know how they expect anyone to approve work without at least some cost estimate or terms. I also had to press them to accept the initial $87.50 service fee to be applied against the bill (which is pretty standard industry practice). The repair was then schedule about a week out. The day of the repair the repair man called in sick to work. So, a day of my time at home was pretty much wasted. The following Monday the repair man arrived. He apparently had no information on the job as he was asking me what needed fixing, and suggested we needed to fill the spa up again (which I was told to drain it ahead of time). After he called the first tech he completed the repair. When it came time for invoice payment, I had to remind them again that the initial $87.50 needed to be deducted from the total. At this point, the technician was pretty irritated and started cursing his own team members. After that I went to inspect the work and found he had left a HUGE mess. He had left spare foam he had additionally cut-off, spare plumbing parts cut-off, and old jet bodies discarded on the ground inside the spa frame. There really wasn't any effort whatsoever to clean up after himself. All in all, I would not recommend A-Tex to anyone that is either looking to buy or service their spa. They're support department in my experience has been non-responsive, has serious operations issues, and the technicians could use some customer service training. I haven't filled by spa back up yet, but I sure hope he repaired the correct jet bodies and it holds water!

We had a good experience in the store with our salesperson. He helped us out a lot and answered all of our questions with sincerity. We bought a 18x18 above ground pool with partial resin. (I recommend full resin to those of you that are looking to buy) The pool was installed by some nice guys - the lead contractor introduced himself and was helpful with my questions, updated me often and they all did a good job at building it. It was fast as heck too, they started at 9 and finished at noon. I just don't care for 100% the steel wall of the pool, I should have got all resin. It's a lot more reinforced, but we don't plan to stay in the house we have now for a long time further. Just wanted something to get us by for a few more years. This is worth it, much more so than going to the darn community pool full of screaming brats and idiots. I mean if we want a nice quiet swim there, we have to get there at 10am. That's another story anyway... The only thing I rated low on was that I wish more details would have been given about the pump and maintenance. They should offer free classes and give more literature. They tell you to just "call" if you have any questions. But that doesn't answer my after hours questions and when I forget what was told to me. I need it on paper or have to have sat through a class. Also, I wish the builders didn't leave such a mess of dirt and boxes. I think they should also remove it for the price you pay for installation. We've got a lot of yard work now, but at least we have a pool to jump into after we get hot!

The weekly pool service is generally fine, but if anything goes even remotely wrong (which it will because they're scaling rapidly and training new folks), Patriot is nowhere to be found. In the time we've been using them, they've incorrectly cleaned our filter twice, stained our white pool tiles, and caused our skimmer to operate incorrectly. It has been pulling teeth to get them to return to fix it - many calls over many weeks, and at present, our skimmer and pool tile are still not resolved. In the case of the skimmer, our pool has an in-ground cleaning system and generally stays crystal clear throughout the spring months. Twice now, Patriot has come to clean the filter, and the skimmer has stopped operating immediately after. The first time, a tech returned a week or so later and told us their filter crew had forgotten to switch something to do with the skimmer back on (it was immediately fixed once he corrected it). This time, it stopped operating correctly immediately after the filter-cleaning again (same timing, same issue) and Patriot (after failing to return our calls, then sending people who weren't trained to investigate or resolve the issue three separate times) is telling us there's nothing wrong. This has been going on for well over a month at this point, and apparently we're going to need to pay someone else to come out and fix it. In the case of the pool tile (see pics below) Patriot acknowledged fault for the issue, and tried a number of tactics to resolve it, none of which worked. So it seems we're stuck with the stains. There are lots of pool companies in Austin. I'd recommend you go with a company that stands behind their work and fixes their mistakes.
