I love this store. It's so hard to find this many quality shoe options in one place. I appreciate their knowledge and assistance when trying to find the right options. Sometimes it can be hard when they want you to wear a different size than you want, but it does come from their knowledge of how shoes wear during exercise. They also have a good selection of socks and gear. The one thing I will say, and I do not believe this is a reflection on the owner or most of the service. I went in this week and a new employee helped me. She looked up my shoe history and noticed I had several returns (within the store policy). She kept mentioning these returns while I shopped and limited my options saying "well we don't want you to return again." I was mortified and left. I purchased a Hoka pair of running shoes. after two weeks they were defective. I brought them back and a sales person attempted to fix the show. I'm not sure how you fix a squeaky shoe. They had to order a new pair. I asked if I needed to bring back the defective shoe back to which I was told no because they were just going to throw it away. I received a call on June 4th that the shoe was ready to be picked up with no mention to bring back the old pair. When I showed up they asked for the pair. After going back and forth the manager told the employee I could take the shoe home with the promise I would return the defective ones. No consideration for my time and gas after it was their lack of communication between staff members. I went back Sunday June 9th to return the defective shoe. The same employee who initially told me the wrong information was there once again. I told him he had given me the wrong information to which he said he hadn't. A complete lie. Apparently, I like to waste my time and was attempting to keep the defective shoes. I told him I wanted it documented I returned the shoes. I will never buy shoes at this store. The staff are not trained with the the proper information. I was made to feel as though I had the need to keep a pair of shoes with no apology. Very unprofessional staff. read more

I have plantar fasciitis and my mom thought it would be a good birthday gift to bring me here and get me a pair of custom fit tennis shoes. Not exactly a "fun" birthday gift but I guess it would be practical. Let me start by saying that Denny, the customer service rep at this location was the sweetest girl on the planet. She was so patient and explained the steps she was going to do to "measure" my feet etc...technology is cool, the images of recording my walking patterns on a treadmill, the digital images of my stance and so on make this store more tech savvy than an average shoe store...she was very informative with what everything on the digital screens meant and explained what shoes would be my best fit and why... She brought out what options were available for my particular "shoe needs" and was so patient as I was trying on shoes, even when I didn't find anything I liked. I was not a fan of any of the designs that were available and I ended up not getting anything, and even still, Denny was so sweet and pleasant. She (and the concept of the store) is the only reason why I'm giving 3 stars. If this was a personal review for her customer service skills, it'd be a 5, but this is a store review and the store itself would benefit more from having a better selection of "aesthetically" pleasing shoes. I went in and spent 140 on a pair of 840 new balance shoe. Having them now for 4 days. And walking 8000 steps at Knotts berry farm park. Let's just say it's like walking on a cloud. They say there's a reason for everything. I loved my Nike shoes because of its tracking (i.e. counts the # of steps when synced with your phone) capability but since it got stolen at the gym, I had to get new ones. I can't remember if it was John T. who mentioned this place to me or I heard/read about it somewhere but I'm glad I went. The store was pretty busy when I got there but Bill, the gentleman who assisted me, said it's their slowest Saturday. Service, definitely 5 stars. It wasn't just Bill who was very helpful and knowledgeable but every associate. I was sorta listening to convos between them and other clients/customers while waiting for assistance. First I stood on their pressure thing-a-ma-jig; looked like I have good posture. Then I was given a pair of standard shoes and asked to run on the treadmill while they film. This is to check my gait. I love their thoroughness. To sum up everything: *I found out I overextend when running which explains the stress and pain on my shin/calf area regardless of the multiple stretches I do. Bill showed me the proper form and had me jogging down the middle aisle till I got it right *Bill helped me choose the right pair of shoes (he brought out 4 different pairs) and I learned I should get half an inch larger than my normal size for running. I can't thank Bill enough for all the tips he gave me. I learned lots in a span of one hour I spent with him about running. PSA: they offer running clinics every first Saturday of the month. Nice signage. It was evening, and the first thing I noticed pulling into the parking lot was the cute neon snail sign. Who could possibly resist a store with such a cute logo? I'm a regular customer at the Laguna Hills location of A Snails Pace Running Shop, but there's no neon there. I love the yellow and green snail! The store itself is chock full of merchandise. I saw a bunch of cute Nike running outfits (hey, isn't Christmas right around the corner?), and of course they have an awesome selection of running shoes. I also noticed they have a huge rack of clothing on sale, and it wasn't full of old junkie stuff like I've seen at some sporting good stores. They also carry a bunch of nutritional and energy supplements, like GU and Clif Shot. And what's this with the new LUNA Tea Cakes? I haven't seen those at the Laguna Hills store yet. I'm appreciating more and more how much ASP supports runners. In addition to their expertise on running gear, there is the Running Academy which prepares runners of all levels for all big local races year round. At the races, there is always a tent where hydration, nutrients and lots of encouragement from coaches and fellow snails are provided. There's also the running club which meets most days of the week for runs of varying lengths. They also offer free running clinics which teaches you proper running technique and includes video analysis. It is at the clinic where Bill, the store manager, suggested that my shoes may offer more support than I need because it looked like I was supinating which may be causing the numbness in my toes that I've been experiencing. I went back a few days later and his diagnosis was confirmed through more video analysis. BTW, it is just so interesting to see my stride in super slow motion. Even after we figured out the support I needed, selecting the best pair entailed me jogging up and down the store with each pair. If you're new to running or just interested in starting, having the right shoes and good running form are the most important things to preventing injuries. You're simply not going to get the expertise you need from a general sporting goods store, let alone a department store. A visit to ASP and their website will make you, at a minmum, a more knowledgeable runner read more

UPDATE: Though I am still a fan of the staff at A Snail's Pace, I am downgrading my review one star because the latest pair of shoes that I purchased, the Altra Torin, developed a rip in the mesh upper near the toe. As far as I know, I did not catch these shoes on anything sharp, and I have only had them about 5 months. I took them into the store and a sales agent told me that this is common, possibly caused by constant pressure/friction of my toes. She recommended that I put duct tape inside the shoe to prevent further degradation, and to do so in the other shoe as a preventative. Of course my 30 day return option has long since passed. At $135 a pair, though I love the comfort of these shoes, which I use strictly for work(in a hospital), I expected better wear and tear and am disappointed. read more

There is way more to than just brands and looks and the workers here are there to make sure you wear the right shoe for the right occasion so that you have the correct running experience. Come prepared with questions and a short description of your running goals are for the best experience here. All the employees are very knowledgeable about running/cardio and are very helpful picking out the right shoe for your needs. Most common shoe places will be filled with workers who are only capable of recommending shoe sizes but the workers here will help you as if they are your own personal trainers so don't be afraid to ask questions. She took the necessary time to analyze what I was looking for in a running shoe. She also updated the analysis of my stance as well as my gate. While I already had a shoe in mind she wanted to make sure that I could compare it to a couple of others so I was getting the most comfortable shoe for me. This is my first time going to a running shop for running shoes and I had such a great experience. I have heard of Snail's Pace over the years but have never taken running seriously enough to try it out. I came in about 30 minutes before closing and was immediately helped by Noel (i believe that was the girl who helped me out) and she was extremely polite and knowledgable. She helped measure my feet and checking my arches by standing on a sensor. Then I was given a pair of test shoes and ran on a tread mill while she recorded me running. She was able to see how I landed and where I would need my support. She was then able to pair me with the perfect running shoes specific to my needs. While the shoes were a bit more pricy then I am used to spending on shoes, they have been worth it. We had an appointment for two out of four of us but the gentleman who helped us took all four of us and helped us figure out what shoes we needed based on our scans & the way we run. I had signed for my first half marathon and when I started to seriously train, I quickly learned my Nikes wasn't going to provide enough support. I started to get arch pain so my doctor recommended me to visit Snail's Pace. I booked an appt though it was relatively slow on a weeknight. The sales associate (forgot his name) was very knowledgeable and helpful. Being a runner himself, he shared lots of tips with me. We assessed the pressure of my feet and recorded the pronation of my feet. There's lots of technology available to measure how I ran. He also brought out a good selection of shoes for me to try on and was very patient throughout the whole process. Even though I am still adamant that those Swooshes still look better, he reassured me that my feet would be happier with these options and I won't regret it after running 13 miles. Don't look anywhere else if you want to buy running shoes. Even if you're not a serious runner, which I'm not, this is the place to go. The prices are comparable to mega sports marts, but you get a MUCH better experience. First you step on a scale (see my pic), and it measures your feet and how much weight you put on one side. You try on a basic pair of shoes and one of the reps watches you run and analyzes you. Then they bring you out 4-6 pairs based on the overall analysis. If you're a pronator, they bring you out shoes that specialize in that type of running style. You proceed to run around the store in each pair until you find one that feels right. We bought a pair of Saucony for less than 100. Not bad, considering these will probably last years. And their return policy is awesome. This place is amazing, and the customer service is 5 stars. 5 stars for my experience at A Snail's Pace. I just recently got into running because a few of my friends are runners... they run half and full marathons all the time. And although I've never really enjoyed running, running a half marathon and possibly a full is on my lifetime bucket list. Not sure if I would want to run them all the time like some of my friends but it would be nice to be able to say... "Oh, I ran a half marathon." How awesome is that? Anyways, I diverge... So after completing one of Long Beach's 10k, I decided I wanted to train for a half marathon and decided to sign up for the OC Half in 2015 with a few friends. And upon making this huge commitment (at least for me), I decided I needed a pair of running shoes that fit me and my runner friends recommended A Snail's Pace and Roadrunner. The only reason that I picked A Snail's Pace over Roadrunner was the mere fact that it's closest to where I live... plus it got fairly good reviews on yelp. And my experience was none the less exceptional. Walked into the store and the girl working there (wish I could recall her name) asked if I needed any help. After I told her I wanted to get fitted for running shoes, she more than willingly did the necessary "tests." 1) They get you to stand on this scale that measures the pressures of your feet, shoe size, and your arches. Pretty cool since I've never seen this before. 2) They tell you to jog to the front of the store and back and video record you to see how you run 3) They recommend the type of shoes you need 4) They bring out a few pair (she brought out four for me) 5) you get to try them out and pick out what you like. Pretty simple. What I appreciated was that she was sincere in answering all my questions about shoes and running in general. Since I'm new to the running game I had a bit of questions about shoes, how it should feel, how tightly i should tie my laces, about insoles, compression stockings... etc etc... And she was nice enough to answer my questions in a friendly manner and I really appreciated the fact that she didn't try to sell me random things on top of my shoes. I actually asked about insoles to see if I would need them (I've heard from my friends that they can cost up to like $80) but she just said I should just try out the shoes first to see if I enjoy running in them because I may not need them. Wow such an honest answer. Her answer made me feel like I could trust her and A Snail's Pace in my running needs. The shoes are market price. They can be considered expensive in a sense since you can always find better deals online at discounted sites. But you will not receive the customer service like A Snail's Pace anywhere else esp not online. Plus you have 30 days to try out your shoes and make exchanges.
