Honestly disappointing. The service was good but the food was mediocre at best. Fairly certain I would not revisit.

No visible health department rating, very little mk ited understanding of federal, state, and county health code laws, very limited understanding of the English language. Failed to return correct change when asked for partial order cancellation. Menu does not specify exact items for condiments. Need more customer service training and education on laws concerning food preparation. No hairnets or gloves worn. A lawsuit waiting to happen. read more

Not good! We came to A Burger based on the reviews. What a huge mistake. We got our food late. 3 other orders that were made after this were filled before ours. The fries and onion rings were cold. They were definitely cooked in OLD oil. The avocado burger had almost no avocado and was $1.50 extra charge! The employees kept complaining that they had too many orders. Really?! Beware! The quality has really gone down. I called in my order this weekend and was told it would be ready in 5 minutes. I do not live far so this was perfect. To start when I called the girl who answered sounded like she put me on speakerphone as there was an echo, I slowly and carefully placed my order (nothing fancy or hard) and I also had her repeat it back to me. Next we arrived and as I waited at the register (place was empty for a Sunday night) the girl who was there didn't even acknowledge me, she handed a tray to another customer and walked away, didn't even ask why I was there, what I needed or even if I could wait. She simply turned and walked away.. SO I stood there waiting for about 5 minutes assuming she was coming right back, until the guy cooking asked if I was there for a pick up I replied yes and there it was bagged and ready right by the register, which the girl could have easily handed me and allowed me to pay and leave. When we got home my order was wrong and cold :( I understand this happens and I am not picky but with this overall experience I plan on NOT going back anytime soon. I've been going to A-burger since I was a little kid. My whole family knows the owners and we used to go every Sunday after church. Yes, the decor and atmosphere is very reminiscent of Whataburger, but in my opinion, far exceed the taste of Whataburger. It's true, these burgers are not THE BEST, but I would choose a Double meat w/ cheese and jalapenos any day over a Big Mac, Whopper, Jumbo Jack or any other fast food burger. You can taste the freshness because they make it as soon as you order it. Yes there is a "secret" menu, but that's true for any place. In-n-out has one, Buddy Burger down the street does, even Taco Bell. I will agree that the quality is not the same as it was 5-10 years ago, but I still make a visit to this place everytime I go back to Oxnard. I still know some of the workers there and it's good to see a familiar face making your food just the way you like it. GET THE MUNCHERS!! It's potato, cheese and jalapenos that are deep-fried in these little bite-size pieces. They are kind of like Jalapeno poppers, but much better. You get 7 to an order. I would definitely recommend this place if you want to change it up from McDonalds, Carl's Jr., Wendy's or anything like that. read more

This place is just good. Nothing special. Nothing awful. Just good. This place has been around forever still with its 60s decor. Not sure why its change its name several times but it's the same thing. Used to be Whattaburger, then A Lot of Burger, now just A Burger. Fries are kind of thick and crunchy. In high school there was a time period where every Friday my friend's mom would take us here to eat. So I do have some fond memories of this place. Well, this Burger place does not advertise themselves as the best place to grab a burger in Oxnard. I don't think it advertise itself at all, mostly the big sign just does the job. I remember I came with my mom here when I was a kid, and she mentioned that her and my dad would always come here. It was nice to see that this place has some history! She said that she really liked the burgers. I don't remember my reaction when I was a kid, I think at the time I compared every burger to McDonald's. Their burgers are good. I mean they have their distinct taste. Not so much gourmet burgers, more like 4th of July burgers that you cook at a BBQ. It's a fast food place, they cook it their, and it's local. To be honest I got what I expected, an OK burger with good fries. Personally I like their fries, mostly because I don't think they add salt (I really try to limit my salt intake when it comes to fries). If you are ever looking for a place to grab a quick burger that is not too complicated, this is a pretty good place to stop or go. It's off HWY 1 next to an Arco, so it's also a good place to stop if you need to stop for a pit stop, gas, and a place to munch on! Another thing to look at is the sense of this place. It has a vintage look to it, very low key 50's style. Not to the point where you see Jukeboxes, 50s music, or soda fountains, you know, what we see in the movies, but more of how it probably was. Another good point, just off Oxnard Blvd with a view to the Blvd, really cool looking at traffic pass, it's really rare to encounter restaurants like this in Oxnard. I like seeing Oxnard at a different angle! One Last thing to point out, If downtown Oxnard had nightlife, I could easily see this place be a late night stop after the club, I believe they close at 10pm, so that's pretty late. read more

Wow haven't been here in a looong time, like 20 years, when it was Lot-A-Burger. LOT-A-Burger was famous back in the day for the Jalepeno's you can get on the burger. Back then that was pretty unique in these parts. I remember working with my dad, and stopping in for a Jalapeno burger, too hot for a 10 year old kid, but pops loved them. Had lunch there today with my uncle and its exactly as I remember it, Jalepenos and all. I had been watching a documentary on In-N-Out and even though I'm not as big of a fan as some people are, I decided to make the trip out to the In-N-Out on Esplanade from South Oxnard. As we were passing by A Burger, I changed my mind and stopped here instead. It was around 9pm and they close at 10pm (according to the Yelp App) so I figured it wasn't that late to order. When I was ordering, I was told we could only order to go, that was fine with me. When I finally got to eating the food at home. I realized that the fries I had ordered seemed like they had been laying around all day, they were cold and hard. The burger itself was ok. It was nicely cooked. The bread was cold though, I remember this place warming up their breads way back in the day. I might come back to this place at an earlier time. This place is old enough to warrant a "historical landmark" status. The darn place, albeit it has had a few name changes along the way" remains with basically the same menu. It's greasy and yummy at the same time. Have been patronizing this place for years, many, many years... The inerior décor is so darn dated that it's so retro-cool! LOL. I forget how much I enjoy their munchers! Good burger! My onion rings where a little over cook but still good. I didn't like that I paid a 4% fee for using my debit card. I spent about $60 for a family meal, so fee, plus tax and tip. My outing became a little too expensive. The person who charged me didn't say anything about the 4% fee, nor there where signs. I did bring it up to person who charged me attention but all she could do was apologize. Over all - good food to take to go! read more

the burgers here are really good and staff took care of us.we ordered double burgers and fries, they gave us two sides of ranch dressing. We loved it all. Very fresh ingredients. Staff was very welcoming and friendly. Due to Covid, there was not inside seating available. However, when things get safer we look forward to returning there and dining in and enjoying a beer or glass of wine with our meal. Great job to the management and staff! read more
