I ordered munchers which cost nearly 5 dollars with my order. When I asked for ranch they told me I needed to pay another 35 cents. I asked why was I being charged for a condiment that should be part of the order. I paid for it. Then I noticed that the hot dogs I ordered had all the toppings. I told asked them to be swapped because I told them it was for my children when I ordered with ketchup only. The lady at the counter said something which sounded rude. This place has been there forever and we figured we give it a try. It's very old school and I like that they kept it that way, and the layout was good. You get in line, order at the far end and make your way down to the cashier near the door. They make the food directly in front of you. The employees were super friendly and it was busy inside. We ordered a A-burger, fish sandwich, the big Richard, and large fries. Unfortunately my A-burger was very dry. The meat was dry and the bun was very dry/stale, it was so dry that the toppings could not help add moisture and it just tasted like mustard. The fish sandwich was very good and I was told the Big Richard was good. The fries were half cooked and half completely raw - as if they were crammed in to too tight and did not cook evenly. The fries that were actually cooked were good. Glad I tried but it wouldn't be something I would come back to try more of. read more

IF YOU HAVENT YOU SHOULD. First time ordering a breakfast burrito. Had the pastrami breakfast burritos with potatoes and eggs. The perfect portion. Was invited to order by a text I received about Free coffee with purchase. I called and asked for the special and placed my order. Received a nice big burrito hot and tasteful and a great price $10.87 (Weird price). Anyways. Worth it. When I got home I realized I didn't get the Free Coffee . The Bad. I can't recommend this place because in my opinion it was too expensive. I paid $15.73 for the burger, small fries and small soft drink. FatBurger, The Habit and Hook all less costly. A-Burger is ok. I got a chili cheeseburger and normal fries. I never had a chili cheeseburger before, and I wanted to try it. It was ok. This is normal, decent food near the library. I asked for no lettuce, grilled onions, but didn't get what I asked for; I received 2 Itty bitty undercooked burgers with slabs of mayo, lettuce, no onions. It was horrible. This is the only local burger spot you need to go to! I see a number of comments saying that $14 for a meal is "expensive" but what they aren't telling you is how massive these burgers are and how generous the fries portions are. You're paying the same, if not more, at your average chain burger spot for much less food. So if you're basing it off of price, THIS is the place to get the best bang for your buck. The service is great and the staff is SO nice! The restaurant might be old but it's clean and there is a ton of space. Happy to make this a regular spot! read more

SERVICE: We did a phone order for pick up late at night. No issues, professional and helpful. Food was fresh. Parking was fine. FOOD: Was surprised and thankful they offered a Garden Burger. As one who is slowly coming off red meat, to find something veggie-like, quick, late at night, and close to home was spot on. Decided to update the review for A-Burger because I am really grateful that they still exist in our little community. It is one of the few places that still maintain that old-school look and feel with some of the original flavors an meals from my childhood. While a lot of places change over time, for better or for worse, A-Burger has remained loyal and kept it's favorites on the menu for people to continue enjoying them. Now I can't give them a solid 5 -star review because there are things they could improve on but overall, they still do a great job on delivering you a meal that you will enjoy. This is especially true for me on those Saturday afternoons where I don't feel like cooking anything, those are the days I know I can always go to A-Burger to get a good burger to munch on! Do NOT go to this place, I went there twice already and both times and got food poisoning. I made a review on Google and they replied saying it wasn't them it was because I "probably ate something before that gave me food poisoning" but you really expect me to get food poisoning not once but twice AFTER I went to A Burger? On top of that, they disregared everything I said and said it was strange that my review was posted at 1 am the Sunday after but my review had to get approved. Not the point but also there was so reason to even say that. The second time i came here my friend who came with me also got food poisoning and they didnt even eat anything prior, so "something I ate before" is not an excuse. A-Burger has been in business for 40 years and being born and raised in Ventura County, I fffiiinnnaaalllyyy decided to find out why this restaurant has been in business for so long. New normal for COVID times has me (and everyone else) ordering through the Yelp app (fulfilled by GrubHub) and picking up my order. Should be pretty standard procedure by now, right?!? WELL ... kid at the counter was about to charge me AGAIN for my order, but I politely explained I ordered and paid through Yelp/GrubHub. The whole transaction rubbed me the wrong way a bit -if you don't know: don't ever play with my (or any person's) money, food or family... My fish sandwich was okay. Good for a basic fish sandwich, when eaten hot and fresh. Fries were cold, old -nothing spectacular like from Popeye's, McDonalds, Farmer Boys or In&Out. It took 25 mins to get our food literally 2 burgers and 2 fries and an order of munchies. The fries were way over cooked and burnt and very salty. Mushroom burger was salty and did not taste good. The munchies were also burnt. They charge 45 cents for 1 jalapeño, they charge 50cents for ranch when at least 1 should come free with the munchies. Not worth it for me to come back ! read more

I always come here when I get to Oxnard, I've been coming here since 1990 or so when it was What-a-Burger, then Lot-a-Burger, and as far as I can remember, it still tastes exactly the same. It's great comfort food, it's a very good basic burger and because of that emotional attachment, it's even better I guess! The ordering system is exactly the same as it was 30+ years ago, and the young people working there are always so nice. In these times, it's great to have something that hasn't really changed...
