Being from the Portland area, where In-N-Out Burgers are new, few, and far between, it was nice being able to pull up to the drive-thru, place an order, and pick up your meal within five minutes, instead of 45+ (on a good day). It just so happens to be National Hamburger Day 5/28/24. So it's only appropriate to finally post my review. When you have a burger craving & don't want to break the bank, you can't go wrong with In-In-Out. This one is located near the 101 Fwy on Oxnard Blvd at the Esplanade Shopping Center, across from Home Depot. No matter when I go here, it's always busy! You'll definitely see the long line of cars at the Drive Through & through the parking lot. Regardless how busy it is, we still wait haha. Also, In-N-Out is perfect for late night bites since they close at 1am. If you come at peak times it can be a full house inside the restaurant. Parking at their lot is also a hit or miss. But there's plenty of parking at the nearby lots. I get my burgers with grilled onions. I also order my burgers protein style sometimes. Fries are a must. Fries can be a hit or miss too sometimes. I need to remember to ask for No Salt. We don't need to be salty! I order my fries well done (extra crispy) with a side of their spread (In-N-Out sauce) or with ketchup w/ black pepper. If I'm super hungry, I'll order animal style fries ;) The secret menu isn't so much a secret. OG's have known this for decades. Man, I just aged myself haha. If you aren't a meat eater, you can order a grilled cheese. I mean, have you even tried an In-N-Out grilled cheese?!... Don't snooze on the shakes. Man those Neapolitans. The last two times I have visited this location with my family Imelda has walked around cleaning the tables and asking to throw out our trash and if we needed anything. We really appreciate her customer service and smiling face. The last time we went my grandson accidentally dropped his fries as we were leaving and she came to the rescue and said "No need to pick them up I'll sweep it up but let me get you some fresh fries!" A California favorite and you can find one about every ten miles! This one is very busy at 5:30 pm! The drive thru is crazy and the line starts at the light at that time. But you can park at Home Depot and walk over. They order you up quickly and you won't have too long to wait. We pulled off during the traffic to take a break. We ordered two cheese burger and a fry. Fresh and hot and tasted great. I find the fries a bit limper than I like but they have a good flavor. Easy order and plenty of time to wait. I have probably been eating In N Out now for 27 years? Eh somewhere around there so with that being said I obviously LOVE In N Out. The drive through today was clear at 12:15pm to my suprise. Had my food within 10 minutes of getting in line so I call that a win. This place can get incredibly busy, so please be advised. Service today was great but cmon let's be real, service is ALWAYS great at in n out. Stopped by today and picked up a cheeseburger with no spread, sub mustard. I added extra cheese and whole grilled onion along with raw whole onion. This sandwich was increbidly juicy and flavorful. LIKE ALWAYS. The consistency of this burger is what makes it so great. Sometimes the simple things are hardest to explain. Like, why do I love In-N-Out Burger so much? Let's look at what I perceive to be the Pros and Cons of In-N-Out Pro: The burgers are delicious. Con: I hate In-N-Out fries. I wouldn't eat them if they were free. Con: the drive thru lines are almost always ridiculously long. Two negatives, one positive. Mathematically it makes no sense for me to go to In-N-Out. I like fries with my burgers and I detest the fries at In-N-Out. The drive thru lines take so long, by the time you get half way to the pick up window you realize you'd already be finished with your meal and be on the way home if you had chosen a different place to eat. So why do I put up with all that? That's the simple part: it's because it's just so fun to go In-N-Out. To me, it's Big Fun. Going to In-N-Out makes me happy. It doesn't matter that there are better burgers around. It doesn't matter that In-N-Out fries are so appallingly bad. It doesn't matter that the line is long and seems to move so slow. None of it matters, because In-N-Out is FUN! OK, so what makes eating at In-N-Out so much fun? That's what's a little difficult to explain. It took me a while to put my finger on it. I've been thinking about this for a long time, and I have concluded In-N-Out is so much fun because of the employees. The people that work for In-N-Out are always smiling, always so welcoming, always so accommodating. Whatever weird way you want to order your food, they respond like yours is the most perfect order they've taken all day. Like you are a total genius for coming up with that order. And they are so into it, it's like they can't wait to make it for you. Whatever crazy thing you order, they will try to make the best possible version of it as they can. And they always kill it. They just kill it! In-N-Out employees are clearly focused on providing the absolute best customer service possible. The design of the stores is another reason the In-N-Out experience is so fun. The distinctive bright white buildings punctuated with red lines and yellow arrows captures your attention much the same way a circus Big Top does. You can't just casually drive by an In-N-Out, because the building is screaming Get In Here! The insides of the stores are invariably well kept. They clearly work hard at keeping the place clean. Considering the volume of customers they serve, keeping the restaurant clean is no mean feat. Eating at In-N-Out, especially going through the drive thru, is a quintessential Southern California experience. Even as the chain expands to other states, it remains true to its So Cal roots. In a way, In-N-Out is kinda like Dutch Brothers Coffee. It's really a lot more than just the product they sell. It's the employees and the vibe you remember and eagerly go back for, ignoring the long lines. It's how the whole experience makes you feel. A visit to In-N-Out always makes me feel good. I thought about getting a Double Double but went for a hamburger. The burger meat was a bit thin thus the minus one star. I still really enjoyed it . The strawberry shake though was my cheat cheat! We ate in the car and hardly talked while we ate. These burgers tasted great! Three of us got meals for under 25 bucks! After being out in the ocean for 2+ hours, I was famished!!! In-N-Out sounded SOOOO good. We went to another one before and the drive thru was so long we came to this location. AGAIN, long drive thru but we were so hungry we just decided to park and walk in. AND WOW!! Walking in is barely a wait and got our food within 10 minutes. The inside is like any other In-N-Out - bathrooms were kept clean here. It was easy to walk up and order and easy to get napkins, ketchup, banana peppers. They also had tables outside and the sound system announced to the outside people too so they are kept up to date what order number was ready. Great set-up! Plus, it was in a plaza with MANY other stores - seems like people who are local have some great convenience if they're shopping and get hungry!!! I was SO happy eating my regular burger with the banana peppers, and fries. I'm normally NOT a fast food person, but I love In-N-Out and (almost) always come when I'm back in the state (CA). In a way, I'm glad I don't have access to In-N-Out on the east coast where I live most of the time, so that when I come back for visiting (family/friends), I feel like I extra-enjoy it. In-N-Out can always satisfy my burger cravings! The staff is always friendly too. Lately I've been ordering from the drive thru only when the line isn't too long. There's something comforting about fulfilling a burger craving late at night or after a long day or on a road trip. I always get the cheeseburger either animal style or with grilled onions. I know not everyone likes the fries but I do enjoy the fact that they are fresh. For those of you with dogs, did you know you can order a Pup Patty? Basically an unseasoned beef patty on the side for $1.10. My fur babies love them! The only thing that bugs me about coming here is the long line for the drive thru. You can always expect a line at the drive thru but it does move in a pretty good pace. And you can always expect the inside to be quite busy. Of course the customer service is top notch too. My go to order is this: * 3x3 cheeseburger with no onions and pickles * animal style well done fries One of the cons of In-N-Out is that their burgers are too small. Well I think getting a 3x3 fixes that. You get a burger that's not too big and satisfies my meaty cravings. I like to have it without onions and pickles and to me, In-N-Out makes it perfect every time. As for the fries, the regular ones aren't the best. You'll need to tap into the secret menu and get the animal style well done fries. You probably already know what animal style fries is but having them well done is so awesome every time! Nothing beats crunchy fries in a cheesy, oniony, and secret saucey mess. So why not a perfect score for them? Because I have to use the secret menu to have amazing great food. If you only order a number one double double with regular fries, you'll only have good okay food. And for those that don't know about the secret menu, may be disappointed. Great food, terrible organization. I've been here long enough to see this place run efficiently with 2 lanes, 2 ordering people, and a constantly moving line. They're down to one ordering person but still have it going into two lanes, forcing people to merge (an unnecessary accident risk with no upside). Currently, the ordering person is the bottleneck. On top of that, there's nothing letting people know it's two lanes so everyone is in the same lane up until the curve, which backs up to the main road and slows down traffic in the entire complex. A simple set of cones would fix this issue. Like I said great food but the manager is not paying attention. These are some easy inefficiencies to resolve. read more
