I used them to re-key 2 doors and replace a mailbox lock for a property in Dublin. I will not use them again. Positive: They showed up on time and the work got done. Negative: The cost. I asked for an estimate over the phone and got some general ranges & their "trip" fee ($35). But was told they could tell me better once they saw it. After coming to the home and looking at the lock I was told the cost "per hardware". Not realizing (& not being told) that a door with a deadbolt + a door lock was each a piece of "hardware". Moreover, the "installation" cost was never told to me. I assumed the cost told to me was total, so I didn't ask about labor. I was charged for the "trip", for 3 re-keys (one door had one lock, one door had the deadbolt + doorknob), installation fees for each peice of hardward (3), Mailbox lock, plus installation for the mailbox. I have had my doors re-keyed before, but I have never been charged this much. I didn't realize I needed to be so specific about the questions I ask. I felt like I was being charged twice for items. Maybe some of this is standard but I was stunned with the cost because I wasn't expecting some of the charges. read more

I'm honestly shocked at how bad of a decision it was to call this place. If I could give them zero stars, I would. Despite showing up quickly, they were not able to open my lock and it quickly devolved into basically trying to break in causing a noticeable amount of damage to my door, door frame, weather seal and interior wall and entryway paint (from their slim Jim tool that wasn't working but the tech continued to try and jam under the door). The tech had the gall to try and charge me the service fee plus labor for 1. NOT getting the door open and 2. Causing damage that I'm now going to have to fix out of my own pocket. Do not use locksmith tech. You're better off just breaking a window to get inside, it will save you the hour of waiting for nothing and the yet to be determined repairs cost for all the damage caused to my door. read more

Our two year old son somehow managed to dead bolt himself into his room from his crib.... after trying unsucessfully to get him to turn the lock the other way, we were on a frantic search to get a locksmith asap since he was then crying hysterically....I called Locksmith Tech and explained the situation....he said he would be there in 5 minutes!!!! and he was!!! He had to remove the entire lock because something was wrong with the deadbolt...he was courteous, fast, efficient, and was a calming presence. Four stars for the speedy service (15 mins to get there) but negative -2 for the price. No price quote to get locked car open for 1998 van - dispatcher said he wasn't able to and the guy coming would give a quote - not mentioning they have a $85 trip fee although they were only 4 blocks away from the vehicle. Then $189 for the lock fee + $25 labor - highway robbery!! It took less than 45 minutes from call to payment and less than 3 mins to unlock door and get keys, all for a gut wrenching $299!! What a joke. AAA is cheaper than this for a whole year of service which I am getting tomorrow. Hell, a tow is cheaper! They were the first ad on yelp stating "after hours" - it was 9pm. Should have called around and gotten a quote from other places. My bad, red flag when a dispatch tells you the locksmith will quote you - looks like from other reviews they would have still charged $85 for the four block trip. I looked at the four star rating - should have read through the reviews. Do yourself a favor and get a quote ahead of time. What a rip off!!!!!! read more

I have mixed feelings about giving such a terrible score- because the tech that showed up was very courteous, pleasant and fixed my lock promptly. It's the $350 price tag that killed me- but it's after 9pm, I'm outside & freezing... No disrespect to the nice gentleman who fixed my lock- but I just paid a 3rd of my monthly rent to get back in, not sure why there is a emergency service charge of $120 plus a $130 lockout charge- isn't that the same thing? BE CAREFUL!!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I had the exactly same experience like the previous poster. I locked myself out of my house and google locksmith in my area with my phone, found this company. I called them and the person pick up the call said nothing until I spoke first - Isn't it weird for a company that provide services? Then he asked for the address and there is $30 trip charge. I said Okay. The guy came, then start working on it without quoting you the exact amount for the whole job. Then he said it more difficult then usual, need additional drilling (isn't this a part of the job)? Without my consent, he drilled and broke my lock, he said there will be additional $200 labor, and additional drilling $35....long story short. They charge you big money without your consent and broke the lock where they should have told you before doing it. I end up paying $290 plus $60 for a new lock. I purchased the new lock myself and replace it otherwise they wanted me $180 for installing a new lock. What a scam. These guys train to be not letting you think and not knowing the final cost. They know this kind of business is a one off deal and won't use anytime soon. So they make as much as they can on you!!! And they need you to pay by CASH! Don't bother, would give no stars if I could. Got locked out of my loft. Called this locksmith b/c they are about 3 blocks from my house & they had 4.5 stars on YELP). Guy on phone wouldn't give me quote, said the technician had to tell me the price (won't fall for that one again...but hey, after a crappy day one is desperate). We had to wait 40 mins for them to get here, the guy wasted an hour trying to break in (he actually pulled out a credit card from his OWN wallet & gave it a go), he had to return to his truck twice for supplies, and then FINALLY said he'd have to drill. After all that, he charged us about $450, of which $120 was their "emergency" fee...that it took them 40 minutes TO TRAVEL ABOUT 3 BLOCKS! I broke my front door lock, called this after hour service, knowing it'd be pricey but almost $400 is ridiculous!! I absolutely do NOT recommend this company! They are going to gauge you, claim the lock is difficult, charge for using a drill, ask you to break another lock in your house and charge you an arm and a leg for 2 locks, parts. labor, etc. I had to get a window replaced recently and it was half the cost!!! I was locked out of my apartment. The service was timely, what I didn't like is that they were so expensive. They know that you need their service so they have you. The tech told me so himself. Really $420.00 to get me into my apartment. If you lock yourself out, make sure you don't have a kwikset lock. They can't get into it and will charge you an arm and a leg to get the door open. Also, they don't take credit cards and the creepy part is that the tech will follow you to the bank to make sure they get their money. There are Angels in America! One of them is Dan, the proprietor of Locksmith Tech. One recent sunny Saturday afternoon, a friend and I were elated to find the rare parking spot in the busy Fillmore District. We were dashing off to catch a movie and not until we arrived at the cinema did my friend realize that she no longer had her car key with her. Locked out of her car and with no means of returning to her home on the Peninsula to get her spare key, we were stranded. While an AAA guy did arrive in response to our call for roadside service, he was only able to get the doors open on her car which happened to have a very sensitive and effective security system. Opening any door without her lost "super key" caused the car alarm to go off. Enter Dan. We'd been advised by AAA to call a locksmith to make a key. We found a few locksmiths' numbers through a free directory service, but only Dan answered the phone. Within a short time, he arrived on the scene -- friendly, courteous, ready to help. However, during the phone cail to Locksmith Tech, I'd been so relieved to reach a locksmith who answered the phone, I only reported being locked out of a car and neglected to mention that we actually needed to have a super key made. Yes, I felt stupid; I'd wasted this nice man's time. Dan advised us that getting such a key made would not only take many hours by a specialty key service, it would also be very expensive. His solution? He drove us in his van all the way to Millbrae to pick up the spare key and brought us back to the car in the Fillmore. Now that seems like extraordinary service in itself -- but here is the miraculous aspect of the entire enterprise: All of this transpired during the last few minutes of the fourth quarter of the 49ers vs New Orleans Saints Playoff Game. Dan is a consummate professional: he did not even mention to us that, until our call, he was watching The Game like any other respectable member of the SF Faithful. Once we were on our way out of the City, I remembered to ask about the playoff and so we did catch One of the Greatest Moments in 49er History -- on the radio. Dan was incredibly gracious and courteous throughout the trip. In fact, it was with much joy, laughter and great humor that we celebrated a Big Win and the reunion of my friend with her spare key. We can't give Dan enough thanks and praise for the excellent service we received. Five stars aren't enough. read more

I had a great experience with Dan from Locksmith Tech. He changed all the locks on our new home and was incredibly prompt and courteous, even when we were running late. There was an issue with the way painters had painted over the original lock, and Dan patiently worked through it while preserving the paint job. BE CAREFUL to get a written advanced estimate before any work is done by these guys. They are extremely expensive. My tenant had a bad experience today with them that resulted in a very high charge ($680) to replace two locks that may have been fixable by just rekeying for a much lower charge. After me personally contacting them, they agreed to only a nominal refund, and then via a personal check from the technician, despite the fact that the tenant used his Visa to pay the charges. Accidentally, locked myself out of my apartment. Called one place which quoted me $85 for a weekend rate (as opposed to $75) but couldn't come out right away. So decided to call Locksmith Tech, which quoted me $45 travel + labor (depending on the type of lock) which he said would start around $35 - total $80. Sounds reasonable. I also asked if I can pay by a credit card, he says ok. The guy shows up, first thing he says is that my bldg has difficult locks and it would be $150 minimum. wtf? He makes it sound like I live in Fort Knox. He threatens to leave, I grudgingly oblige with being on a tight schedule. Then he proceeds to open the door using some wire apparatus in 2 min. Then we have a dispute when I try to pay with a credit card. He says he has a recording of me stating that I would pay with cash. I'm still waiting on that recorded conversation. Anyway, all in all he got the job done but left a huge sour taste after all said and done. My only regret is not reading some of the reviews before deciding on calling this place. read more
