I needed the locks rekeyed on my rental property, so I called Novato Lock since they are a well established lock company in Novato. I called on Thursday and was able to get an appointment for Friday between 1-3. I thought "ugh" because I thought I would have to wait around until 2:30 or so for the locks to be rekeyed. I was pleasantly surprised when Mike showed up at 12:40 and was ready to work. I showed him the 3 locks to be rekeyed and a problem with one of the door handles that did not allow the door handle to be unlocked. He quickly popped the door handle off and greased the mechanical pieces and the door handle was fixed. He also rekeyed the three locks in about 30 minutes and handed me new keys. I was really impressed with the professionalism and knowledge that Mike demonstrated to me during this task. He was also polite and courteous. I will definitely use Novato Lock for all my future lock tasks. read more

Just dropped in really quickly to get a couple of spare house keys made. The guy at the counter was really nice and finished the process in less than a minute. I also asked about car keys and they tested my key to see if it had a computer chip in it before they tried to copy it. Fast, knowledgeable, and good customer service. Two spare house keys cost me about $4 The only drawback for some may be that they close at 4pm. read more

Unfortunately it was not a major brand so he was unable to repair it. But he gave me some good advice on how to track down the necessary hardware and I'm in the process of doing that now. Don't get cheated at Novato Lock, there's plenty of other locksmiths in Novato. Long story short, Herb the manager acknowledged I gave him all the right details, but he gave me a quote for something completely different, and won't do anything to correct his own mistake. I gave, and his employees gathered all the right info, then he suckered me with a decent quote and hit me with a high bill. Day 1: We had a coin operated washing machine with a broken lock on the coin box. I take a picture of the damaged lock, the coin box, and the whole washing machine so they know what they are dealing with. I show it to the guy working at the desk and he made the appointment. I ended up rescheduling it a day later. Day 2: They end up missing the appointment window without even calling. When I call they seemingly forgot my appointment. We rescheduled later, which was fine, and after another reschedule on their part, a locksmith arrived. The guy was pretty nice, game me some idea what needed to be done. He needed to order a new coin box and drill out the old lock. At this point I could have gotten a freebie out of them. I could have ordered the box myself which I did and drilled the lock myself. But I decided to have them drill the lock and support the local locksmith business down the street from my business. Day 3: The coin box arrived so I called to schedule a time for them to drill out the old lock. Herb, the manager answered the phone, and I described what we needed and I explained again that the lock was on a coin operated washing machine. At this point he said I had a "lockout" and that's the terminology I used to refer to the situation from that point on. He quoted the lockout as $75-78 so that's what I was expecting. $50 something for a service call, less than $20 to drill the lock. Day 4: A different locksmith from the previous call, came and completed the work before I arrived, which was fine. But he left a Bill of $106 instead of $70 something. Day 5: Went to the shop to talk to Herb and pay. He said he couldn't give me the price he quoted because it was a washing machine coin box lock that had to be drilled and not a standard door lock. I explained to him he should have known it was a coin op washing machine that he quoted me for. I took pictures to the shop day 1, one of their locksmiths came out and personally saw the washing machine on day 2, and when I talked to Herb the first time I said it was a coin op washing machine to which he started using the term "lockout." What more could I have done? Herb admitted it was his mistake but would not lower the price. This company is unorganized, lacks communication between employees, and generally doesn't seem to care about customer relations. When a manager says something is his mistake and neglects to make amends to a frequent customer ( I call them at least 3 times a year) the business is in sorry shape. The employees seem all right but the manager is dishonest and deceptive. This may be the single worst review on here, but don't be the second, it may cost you Easily avoid them and try another locksmith company in Novato, there's a few. read more

A few weeks ago, our 'new' front door lock decided to seize up on us. We were locked out completely. This was, of course, on a Sunday morning. A call to Novato Lock, and I received a call back from their locksmith within 15 minutes. We set an appointment and he arrived on time and ready to work. We ended up getting a new deadbolt and having it re-keyed to match all of our doors. Great service, fast response and a reasonable price (especially for a Sunday house call!) He went above and beyond and not only changed our locks quickly and efficiently, but he noticed our patio gate scuffed the wood patio deck and offered to take apart the wood gate on the spot to raise the planks so that it would no longer scrape the deck. I had called another lock smith in Novato and was quoted at a much higher price as well as being told they were to busy to come out the same day. With out giving the others businesses name I was quoted much lower price for the same service and they were there within an hour. Not impressed. Lots of local moms recommended Novato Lock & Key, and I called them 2 weeks before our moving date to get the locks rekeyed on our new home. The gentleman I spoke with was not terribly friendly, but I don't need a friendly locksmith, just a good one. We made the appointment for 4 p.m. on the day of our closing. Flash forward to that day and time, and no one arrives. I call the office, and the same gentleman answers. He contacts the man in the field, and tells me he'll arrive in 15 minutes (no apologies that that would mean he will be almost 30 minutes late). By 4:40, I couldn't wait any longer, as we had many other things going on that day. I called to let them know. While the guy did apologize, he didn't offer to reschedule, or try to make it right. So that's that. I'll never use them again (not that I was able to use them in the first place ...). read more

When we bought our home in 2013 we had Novato Lock come out and re-key all our locks on closing day. When we moved in March 2017 we called them to re-key on our closing day again. Both times they were on-time and completed everything promptly. read more

Excellent place to get a key made or replaced. I've had all my car keys duplicated here. Mike is very knowledgeable and very friendly. I've also had them come out to my business to replace locks and the service was professional and fast. Don't bother calling a drive by night operation. These guys are legit, local and honest. I'd hate for ghetto Josh from Tim-Buck-Too to hand over a copy of your newly made key to someone and have them break into your house when your not home. I've had the owner come out a couple times for various service calls. One was to rekey my locks and the other was to replace the keypad on a safe. Both times I was very satisfied with the service. It's always refreshing to see professionals acting like they care about what they do.
