Came in while I was waiting for my car across the street. This place is kind of dark, which is weird given the jukeboxes and neon. It feels like a run down diner. The waitress I had was Morgan, she was nice and attentive - the service was no issue. The food was subpar, I got a BLT club which was sandwiched between three slices of lettuce. There was very little bacon and an overload of bad lettuce. I only ate half of it because it was so disappointing. I don't know why I expected much else, but this place was not good. read more

This place is fun. There's a reason it's been around for 50 years. Very reliable. Good food. Good service. Nice little spot.

We waited an hour for our food and was received cold, the tall lady with blond hair and deep voice was a bad server they only gave us 1 napkin each and got our shakes wrong read more

Quality. Food. Now, let's put two and two together. That is how you define the food at 5 & diner. Our waiter was Spike/Kevin. He was very kind, and had a great sense of humor. He kept on offering things to us, and checking in on us. He would ask us,"Do you need more water?", "Is there anything else I can get you?", and "How is the food?". Our food came quick and was enjoyable and filling. We got a variety a things, including the short stack of pancakes. If you wanted whipped cream, which is free of charge, you get a whole bowl of it! Our experience was beyond extraordinary and I am way way WAY beyond impressed with the service and the food. The diner has a cute theme; it looks like an camper from the outside, has jukeboxes, and black and white checkered tile. It feels homey, has a 50's charm, and feels.....well....like a true diner!! If you are looking for a enjoyable meal in Phoenix, come here! By Kate, age 11 read more

Very disappointed in both the service here and the attention to detail with their food. When I think of a locally owned diner, I assume a welcoming vibe and a caring attitude when it comes to customer service. This place lacks both. Seriously appalled by the way they believe they can speak to customers here. It's NOT OK. Also, last time I checked, an omelette ones standard with cheese. Both of our omelettes were served without cheese inside. We also did not receive the side items we paid for. So many things get overlooked here, makes you wonder what else they are overlooking. NO THANK YOU. Regardless, it was a terrible experience. We want to support local small businesses through this pandemic, but this lazy "I don't care" attitude is a huge turn off. There are plenty of amazing breakfast places in the area that care about the people and the food they serve, I highly suggest seeking them out instead of this place. read more

I got the eggs Benedict and it was awesome. Our waitress was excellent, cheerful and efficient. The ambiance is of course the 50's diner which is always fun. Highly recommend this place however, you might wait a bit because it's very good! read more

Cute little diner. They are open 24 hrs. When you enter it's kinda small and totally retro. They do have a food truck as well. They are dog friendly. Also they have seating outside & they have heaters outside as well. read more

My new year's resolution is to keep the same vapid worldly pleasures as always, but to upgrade them all. I still go to the mall, but I'm blowing money on Macy's and Dillard's instead of Sears and Foot Locker. I still shoot vodka like I'm in undergrad, I just make sure it's top shelf only. And I still show up drunk to diners in the middle of the night, I will just make a habit of 5 & Diner instead of those *other* chains. OK, there's literally no way to spin liking 5 & Diner of all places as a quantifiable improvement in personal growth. I am self aware enough to know I am trashy and an absolute tool just for trying. But I *do* know it's a cut above whatever else you were planning to get after you were done partying. Heck, I could actually eat here for lunch and probably be OK with it. I'm craving another BLT with fries already! read more

It's always a good place to bring your friends and Just enjoy some delicious food and talk. The shakes are great!! Personal favs are the BLT and the turkey club. Cool old fashion experience. read more

This week our Sunday early morning breakfast group came here. Greeted quickly. Seating is a choice of booths or the counter. We tried one of the 4 person booths and had trouble squeezing in, our party of three ended up in the larger corner booth and it was still snug and the padding was soft enough it was a very short distance from my plate to my mouth. The food, while not being special, was pretty good. Our waitress was very cheerful and got our orders right. There were some gaps in service as she was carrying on a running conversation with some regulars. I wouldn't pick it again but would go if asked to. read more

Mmmm good! A Sunday afternoon early dinner, outside on the patio under the red and white umbrellas, serenaded by the birds and adjacent hum of traffic. The Cadillac Meatloaf, piled high with bacon, mushrooms, and onion straws, was a taste sensation. Served with creamy mashed potatoes and gravy and a colorful cornucopia of steamed mixed vegetables that weren't al dente, nor mushy, but just right. The classic Cheeseburger was properly cooked and served on just the right amount of bun that was soft and tasty. Came with a side of fries that were crunchy. Added the dinner salad to the meatloaf. And a delicious black and white shake topped with whipped cream and a cherry. read more

Absolutely love this place! Such a great experience! Perfect 1940's - 1950's atmosphere. Every detail down to a "T". Someone put a lot of thought and effort into this place. Good service, good food, DELICIOUS malts! The 16th st. restaurant is my favorite location. If you do not like or do not care for meat, you can substitute a black bean patty for any burger, which I opted for, SO GOOD... Way better than expected. Yum . Dinning here is like being transported back in time. Although they did have music playing, unfortunately the juke box was out of order. Will be back again and again. Love you guys down there at the 5 & diner! Keep up the good work. Thank you!! read more

My family meets here monthly as it is a central location. So disappointed tonight. Food was good. Spike was nice.., our waitress not nice at all. ... bad attitude, made us very uncomfortable by being so irritated serving us. Ruined our dinner to be honest. First thing she said to us was to be sure that we tip based on the price including the new surcharge. Wow, what a turn off. Hope you don't lose business it sure makes me think about returning again read more

I'm from a group of highschool students who frequently visit 5 & Diner after theater productions ( group of 20+) typically around 11 pm. Tammy has been our server every single time (4+)and she has always been a fantastic waitress. Not only does she have the patience and abilities to successfully host a group of rowdy, tired, and hungry teenagers, but she also always brings a positive and efficient attitude towards us. We came in at 10:30 and were all paid and finished by 11:30. We all sincerely appreciate her and her positivity, it always makes our night. The food was also timely and delicious, there were absolutely no issues! read more

I must day they went far and beyond service. Home bound I depend on delivery services. Most times u order food it is never the way u would have recieved in the resteraunt. I wanted potatoes they said it wasnt available. I was cool. To my surprise they added it to my delivery with mo charge. I will support them any day of the week. The prices the food amazing better than denny or IHOP. I believe family owned. I just so appreciated that extra. Usually when u order out its minimalistic at best. They were on it ...I would highly recomend them before going to any chain like IHOP or denny's. I also need to commend the uber ests person who took their time to make sure the order was correct. So 5 stars to both of them. read more

Great vibe, great eats! Service was fabulous. A regular stop now, anytime passing through area.

We decided to go old school New Year's Eve with dinner at the 5 & Diner on 16th Street in Phoenix. Our server Matthew was friendly, funny, cheerful, efficient, professional & overall awesome. The cook was generous in allowing us to modify our order & the food was delicious! Restaurant was clean and welcoming and booths had plexiglass panels between them & stools at the counter were separated with flower stands for covid-free eating. We enjoyed dinner with Beach Boys, Roy Orbison & Brenda Lee belting out their music overhead & welcomed in the new year with a blast from the past! read more

My husband and I visited on a Sunday night. It was kind of busy so there was a bit of a wait which is why I put 4 stars instead of 5. Their milkshakes and floats are so good. I got the Mac and cheese and it is to die for! Soooo good. Best I've ever had!! My husband ordered a plain cheeseburger and they forgot to make it plain. Love that this place is 24 hours. The service was slow , the waiter forgot to put our order in and then once she put it in it was still wrong after we had already waited almost an hour. I want to give zero stars but I can't do I'll just give 1 star. read more

If I could leave 0 stars I would. There are a number of things wrong. 1st, my food sat in the warming window for over 15min while my eggs then dried out and were burnt inside of my omelette that didn't even contain the ingredients listed on the menu. My mashed potatoes were dry and tasted a day old. I ordered Loaded fries as an appetizer, they were highly disappointing considering I absolutely love loaded fries. The fries were old and no where near fresh. As for the service, I received my check before my food. The server Matt was obviously under the influence of some kind. He also attempted to detour customers stating "we only have one cook so it will be a few minutes" when clearly I saw at least 3 body's in the kitchen. I will not ever come back here and I do not recommend this shit whole diner to anyone. Honestly, I'd rather eat a Banquet TV dinner. I'm very disappointed read more

12.17.2022 The Original 5 & Diner Check #99 Table 10 1328 hrs 5220 N. 16th Street Phoenix, AZ 85016 602.264.5220 What an absolute pleasure it was today to have lunch at 5 & Diner, 5220 N. 16th Street. From the time we entered the business we got an immediate smile and "Welcome to 5 & Diner" from DELIA M that was standing at the front counter at that moment. After we were asked where we wanted to be seated and walked to our seat, DELIA M asked us if we wanted to order our drinks. When it was time to depart, there was DELIA M, right there to make sure we did not forget anything and to give us a wonderful "Thank-you for coming and please come again!" The Chefs in the kitchen did an excellent job. We both got wonderful food, cooked perfect to our request. The following people made this meal wonderful & the diner spotless: DELIA our server KEVIN ASHLEE TARA CINDY MARIA the busser ERIC dishwasher STEVE, MIKE & JACIENTO the chefs The Busser MARIA was doing just a superior job clearing off tables and wiping down tables, seats and picking up anything that fell on the floor. We want to make a special note of his great service. When she saw dirty dishes that we placed at the end of the booth table, she stopped AND ASKED US IF SHE COULD TAKE THEM. MARIA did not allow even the corner of the big cart full of dirty items to touch our table during the entire time she stood at the end of the table and it was full. If I had a business, I would steal MARIA from you. To have this much politeness, kindness & dedication to the job is almost impossible to find anymore. To GM RYAN we really wish for you to stand this employee in front of your desk and tell her that we were very impressed with her excellent service. Now for the employee that really makes the business work. ERIC; the Dishwasher. If this job was not done well the entire food service would come to a stop. Each and every dish & the tableware were just spotless. To ERIC, I say "Thank You" for all you do & I remember sixty years ago when I got my very first job; as a dishwasher. This 5 & Diner is almost a thirty mile round trip from our house, and because the 5 & Diner closed in PV Mall, we went over 8 years from a visit; but after this meal we will take every opportunity to return to this 5 & Diner the next time we are in this end of town. For every family that has young kids and they have never seen a "train car" type diner with a ROCK OLA; where many in the USA had meals in the 1940's to 1960's; you should take your children to this location and show them what it was like when many of the grandparents had a meal. Take a picture & send it to the Grand Parents. As a final note, this business has an absolutely huge parking lot. I bet if every person having a meal all came in separate autos, that here would still be spots open for a few more autos. Past excellent service in Phoenix:DIANA, PERLA; CARLOS; ALFREDO, PERLA, DELIA, KRISTEN, ASHLEE, RYAN, CYNTHIA, ERIC, STEVE, JACIATO, CEUDY. Thank You, Lt. I. G. "Gus" XXXX Jr. USN Ret read more

Popped in for some lunch this afternoon. I was craving a burger, but decided on the Turkey club with fries side of pickles and iced tea with extra lemon instead. Everything was really good! Good sized portions and their pickle chips were super good!! What was even better than the food was the excellent service given by Spike! He made sure everything tasted good, kept up on our refills and was really professional. The restroom could use some attention, but other than that we had a lovely visit. I'll definitely be returning! read more

I've been looking for a good diner in my area and finally found one. I pass this place all the time and thought of it when I wanted pancakes after the gym LOL Surprisingly it wasn't very busy for a Sunday morning. The atmosphere is really cool...literally an old 60's diner...super cute. The menu is pretty basic, all the essentials but of course my husband wanted something not on the menu. Our waitress was great (not overly friendly) but shared that they can make us just about anything we want even if it's not on the menu. This is a new favorite place. I knocked off a star because the coffee isn't great but our food was sooooo good. Simple and delicious. read more

This is my boyfriends favorite place to go to for breakfast late at night. I would even say he became a regular here for some time because he was always looking forward to it. We never dined in and always ordered to go so I can't speak on a dine in experience. I give them a 4/5 star rating due to messing up orders a couple of times and also giving us burnt sausage in one of our orders. If it clearly looks burnt why would you serve it to a customer? read more
