Came after the Islanders game reading the sign that Ommegang Wittes were $2 off until 2 hours before and after the game. I don't think they have food but have pretty decent self serve popcorn with basic toppings you can sprinkle on. It was a full house. They only really disappointing thing was that at the end, the bartender didn't give us the discount that drew us into the bar. It was busy and a couple of dollars, so we gave a minimal tip and left it at that. Probably a little weary to come back, as we're a huge fan of Pacific Standard next door. read more

This is one of my favorite bars, not just in New York, but ever. They have a fantastic beer selection, are totally willing to let you try beers, offer free popcorn, and have a really cute garden area in the back! I also love that they have Old Bay for the popcorn. So get this: one of the best tap lists. Period. The owner(s) obviously care what they are serving. The beers are ever rotated, with new hard to find suds on the menu all of the time. There is a cool neighborhood vibe with a smallish bar that fills up quickly in the early evenings. They serve free food (popcorn) around the clock which pairs well so no reason to fill up on anything before you get there. Great happy hour as every beer applies! Really like the bar next door, yet really wanted to try this place too. A solid selection of craft beer, chill atmosphere, and free popcorn! Saturday mid-afternoon and almost no one inside. Good variety of beers on draft ranging from $6-10 and a bunch of bottles/cans. A few specialty cocktails are available at a decent price ($8-12). Bartender lady is super friendly and seems to know the locals around here. Popcorn is located at the end of the entrance hall with red plastic bowls on top and a thin scooper to the left of the machine. Solid, no frills popcorn for an equally no frills bar. No food here (aside from the popcorn) and I can see how it can get crowded fast. Good place to meetup with friends for a couple drinks. read more

This is a hidden cheap spot! If you want a dark dive like bar with free popcorn... you got it. We would always look for a place that will always close at 4am and this was it. Drinks are $5 normally.... they also have happy hour but it's only a dollar off. It's kinda of a dive bar but they have a garden thAt pretty well kept. read more

Awesome bar. We went three rounds here and had some really great beers; great conversation with patrons and our host/bartender about everything from beer to music. I will always remember the Stone / McNairs / Ballast Point session beer I had at this bar. Words cannot describe how lovely that beer tasted. Sixpoint's Rye Belgian was another one I hadn't had before (and am more likely to find than the session beer) and I'm so glad this beer and I met here as well. I miss Brooklyn, and I miss 4th Ave Pub... When I lived in BK I went here probably every other week and did some serious Happy Hour damage. They have one of the best beer lists in BK, free popcorn, and happy hour until 8! Most of the bartenders especially Rachel are crazy nice and go out of their way for service. Knocking down a star because the last time I was there the pony tail bartender left me with a bad experience. And he's done that to several of my friends. But overall its a great bar and by far one of my favorite places in BK. read more

This place is awesome -- unpretentious, stellar beer selection, reliably chill patrons. I had a birthday party here, and about 30 ppl came, mingled happily with the crowd. The best part was, whenever someone asked what I wanted to drink, I told them to pick any beer that they thought I'd yet to try. Can't wait till it's weather dries up -- the back patio is spacious. What a gem! A group of 10-12 of us came in here on an okay (weather-wise) Saturday afternoon and were able to find ample seating in the back patio. The beer selection is stellar and affordable (I'm still getting used to those NYC prices...). The inside was dark and most of the seating was at the bar, but the place was clean and the bartender was friendly and ready with recommendations. Plus, free popcorn! This place is THE BOMB. If you're looking for an awesome (and I mean AWESOME) beer pub, or beer garden, or what-have-you, with a cool relaxing atmosphere, this is your top place in all of Brooklyn AND Manhattan. I've been so blessed to live around the corner from this place... which basically means that I come here several times a week to unwind over a beer and shoot the shit with the bartenders. If you don't live around the corner -- well, maybe you should pack your shit and move. Yeah... it's THAT good. This is the thing, the welcoming, laid-back feel that 4th Ave Pub has -- the staff makes this place what it is. I know almost every bartender here, and the owners (who, BTW, sometimes bartend themselves), and not once have I not been happy with my time at the bar. Everyone is so down-to-earth... not like the assholes at the Gate. And these guys knows their shit. They WILL make sure that you're happy with what you're having. One of the best beer bars in Brooklyn. Its right by the train, they offer free popcorn, the bartenders are great. The offer a large selection of rotating taps and bottled beer. During the warm months its awesome to sit in the back garden. And you can bring your own food in to the bar, or order food to the bar. Its pretty cozy, so some times its really packed, so when you get a booth hold onto it. read more

On my birthday, somehow everything i wanted to do turned into a disaster. Just when i was about to give up and head on home, some friends and i stumbled upon 4th ave pub. Keep in mind, my experience was on a wednesday. The beer selection was vast and different. I wanted to try something new, but i couldn't decide, there were so many. A jolly fellow at the bar suggested a Gaffel. It was delicious, as delicious a beer can be. The outdoor seating area was a nice feature, yet small. There was free popcorn, but seemed unsanitary. At 1am, it wasn't deserted, but wasn't super packed, and you could actually have a conversation. read more

Wonderful beer!!! Seriously great selection of tasty brews. The free popcorn is great. The patio is spacious. The bartenders (at least the ones I've interacted with) are really nice. I've been here a few times with friends and family, and everyone is always impressed with the vast variety of beers on tap. You certainly don't go here for the atmosphere (which is not bad, it's just nonexistent), but the selection certainly makes up for that. As prior reviewers have mentioned, there is certainly something here for every type of beer fan and always something new to try. As someone else noted below, the biggest drawback of this bar is a lack of defining character. It lacks the 1-thing that would keep you coming back over and over. You know what I love about 4th ave pub? Week nights, they have a great beer selection and great Happy Hour deals. The bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable, always willing to offer a sample or suggestion if you are unsure about what to try. And if you're lucky and you get something you just can't stand, they will pour something else for you. You know what i hate about 4th ave pub, the weekend. This bar was not built for a crowd, and sometimes there is a wait to get out to the backyard, really not the right scene for this little dive. This really is my favorite local watering hole. Some of the bartenders are great to talk to (shout out to Ralph + Lauren), the crowd is never lame, the decor is that perfect blend of dive-meets-beerhall, and (most important) the beer selection is top notch, rotating weekly. Great Beer - Perfect Before Games/Concerts - Can Get Pretty Crowded 4th Avenue Pub consistently has one of the best beer selections not only in Brooklyn, but in all of NYC. This usually includes having a cask ale on tap as well as a large selection of bottle beer beyond what is on the regular tap. I highly recommend this place as a meeting point prior to any Barclays Center event, but don't be surprised if it is too packed to get in. The staff can be pretty cold, but I think that has to do a little bit with the crowd the Barclays events have started to bring in. This place is also great for watching the marathon which goes down 4th ave. Stick to the beers because the cocktails leave plenty to be desired. read more

This place rocks! I went here with my girls and loved it. The bartender was heavy on his vodka pours for me all night and kept chatting me up. I think he liked me and I totally used it to my alcohol binge advantage. If it weren't for the popcorn they give out there, I probably would have been on the floor from having no food in my stomach.
