This place was near our hotel about 2 weeks ago i had my 2pc suit and dress shirt dry cleaned. The extra steps and attention to detail was above every dry cleaner I have been to so far. The owner I assume was also fairly personable and had a good attitude. I nearly went to another dry cleaner but the attiude they had their was horrible and there were baskets of crap everywhere. Ideal cleaners however was very tidy, clean. And had AC. The only piece of constructive criticism I could offer is to maybe sell wooden hangars to hang dry cleaned suits once dry cleaned because metal wire hangars can increase wear on nice suits. Would recommend above most dry cleaners on 4th avenue in Brooklyn NY. read more

The work is good (normal) even though they keep refusing to starch my men's shirts the way I would like to have and most laundries do and have various excuses for not doing it (on regular dress shirts). So "nothing to write home about" regarding the work product. But the lady, apparently the owner or owners wife, is one of most unfriendly persons I have ever met in my 70 years anywhere in the world, inc.. Asia. Despite her I had come back, thinking that she had a bad day (happens to most of us), but today was worst and I realize it her attitude and mannerism does not change; she is what she is and shows to me every visit. I do not need nor deserve it - it was my last visit at this place and paying for her to do my laundry. It may be irrelevant for her (I am sure it is and, in addition, she would nastily blame me), but enough is enough. read more

Bernie was fired and the business is now run day to day by the owners. They are truly unpleasant to deal with. The story: after misplacing a dry-cleaned blanket and series of other garments for two years (goods subsequently somehow found on premises), ex-manager Bernie offered my wife and me a credit for said cleaning expenses. Total: $59. Seems reasonable for a household which spends north of $150 a month with Ideal. When politely raised with the woman who assumed Bernie's responsibilities, she immediately exploded with this screed about how Bernie wronged the owners, was a very bad man and thus she refused to honor the arrangement. I explained that they had lost our stuff for two years and her own employee had accordingly offered this pretty modest credit to us. If it was applied, we'd happily keep coming. No such luck...and I'm abridging, because she continued with this lengthy, extremely uncomfortable narrative about competitors' pricing in the neighborhood, the poor state of the business, lack of profits when it comes to washing shirts...it was a lot. Anyway, I DID come back for some reason. She preempted the whole credit topic this morning saying she'd spoken with Bernie and that I could discuss this with him when he maybe came back in 7 months (huh?). I candidly can't say I took the high road here, but informed her that either the credit needed to be honored then and now or we'd take our business across the street to Happy Cleaner (home of Brooklyn's friendliest proprietor). Her response: we'll honor it, but never come back here again. Moral of the story: go to Happy Cleaner where a woman with a photographic memory greets every patron by name. God bless her. read more

I set up an appointment for a pick up at my job located within a NYCHA building. We're a small business, yet we're easy to find since we have purple awnings to distinguish our site. I get a message from my assistant stating that the pick up person was unable to find our location, and that there are unable to offer us any services because we do not have a doorbell which is FALSE! If you're a business with a new client and you're having trouble finding a location, it's common sense to call the business while you're on location and ask for directions. Very unprofessional and unapologetic . I spoke with the owner after the incident and he claims that he was unable to find the location of our business. I asked him if that was the case, why didn't we receive a phone call while you were near the business for assistance? I also mentioned that I gave intrinsic instructions on how to find our business, which entrance is located within the park of a NYCHA Building. The, the owner says "We only pick up from buildings with doormen". This is inaccurate and pure discrimination. When I initially set the appointment for laundry pick up, there was no mention or question about what type of building is being serviced or whether or not a doorman was on site. If that was a practice of the company, why wasn't I ask that when I booked the appointment and spoke with the owner twice PRIOR to pick up? Our Daycare has a receptionist and a front office, which is the equivalent to the help you would receive if you were to visit a building with a doorman. I believe that once the owner physically saw that we were located in a NYCHA building, he decided not to serve and stated that he will be unable to serve us in the future. Despicable. read more

Horrible dry cleaners. Racist too. They ruined my wool jacket, added a disgusting stain to it, and a hole in the sleeve. They told me "This is the USA" when I confronted them about lying to me. They are cheaters and DO NOT clean your clothes. I would never frequent a business who treats their customers like this. Definitely NOT Ideal, and a very stressful experience. We have used Ideal Cleaners every week for the past three years. It is possible that we are their best customers. We love Bernie and have loved everything about this place. We have never had any trouble, which is really saying something given the enormous volume of stuff they have cleaned! Plus Bernie is so friendly and sweet. I came here because of all the positive reviews but I'm compelled to believe Bernie doesn't treat all of his customers with the great service everyone recommends. At best, it's ok. I came here for a wedding dress hem and when I tried on the dress for him to mark where to stitch, he only did the front. Not sure if he was too lazy to finish on the back but what ended up happening was the back was shorter than the front. The dress covered my feet and short on the backside. When I asked, he tried to justify saying that he just followed the hemline, but it could have been avoided had he thoroughly done the job. I have numerous cleaners by my job in Manhattan. One is literally a few doors down. Plus I have 3 more in the vicinity of my home. However, I came here (because of yelp reviews) to see if an old ( over 25 years old) white down goose jacket could be cleaned. Didn't expect any dry cleaner to really do anything great with it. When I got the item back I was amazed that it was so clean. I haven't looked back. I found the "best" dry cleaners "ever". Friendly, professional and they do phenomenal work. By the 3rd time Bernie knew me by name. I recommended Ideal to all of my friends. Not convenient for me, but as long as they are around, I will not take my clothes anywhere else. read more

Really love this place's friendly and professional service. They'll pick up the phone on the second ring every time, can squeeze you in even for last-minute huge-volume needs, always greet you with a smile, and do free pick-up and drop-off if you're in the neighborhood*, which is incredible. One note: it's just in the nature of most cleaners that some items, maybe more on the delicate side but not dry clean-only, will shrink a little. That's just how it goes when you're buying clothing made from some cheaper fabrics and washing things in big quantities. I've had serious issues with that at other places, and while Ideal definitely does better on this than any previous cleaner I've been to, there still is the occasional non-dry clean item that will still undergo some shrinkage. Know that's just par for the course, and Ideal isn't a miracle cleaner in terms of escaping that entirely. Err on the side of dry cleaning if you have something you adore that you think might shrink in the washing process. Overall, great service with unbelievable convenience at good prices. The best in the neighborhood, by my vote! *The pick-up and drop-off are from 12-1pm, so if you're looking to get things done during the week, it really only works if you have a doorman or if you work from home. read more

So glad I checked out the Yelp reviews before coming here. I had quite an assortment of items (10 total between me and my boyfriend) that had been shoved in a bag for a month because we were traveling and didn't have time to do it before we left. Those items included men's and women's sweaters in cashmere and wool blends, men's dress shirts, a men's suit jacket and pants and a work dress. Everything looks great and neatly pressed. One of my wool sweaters has leather elbow patches and they were perfectly intact. I had time to drop off and pick up my items, so I was able to meet Bernie. His customer service is top notch, and he's friendly too. I'll definitely be using Ideal Cleaners again. read more

I have been using Ideal Cleaners for months and have consistently had to overlook certain errors. They ripped a sweater and then sewed it without letting me know (fine that you fixed your mistake but should have let the patron know what happened). They called me one day to ask me if I received 8 extra dry clean items that were not my own (meaning that they had lost someone else's clothing). Unsettling to say the least. And now they just delivered several items that they managed to shrink while dry cleaning! I didn't even know that was possible! Then when I complained they told me that they don't need my business. Rude. Unprofessional. They are just blessed with the fact that there are very few other dry cleaners in this area that do a reasonable job. AVOID. read more

These cleaners do a good job. I have many vintage items that need special attention and care and these cleaners are aware of these needs. They are also confident enough to tell you if something may get messed up in the drycleaning process so you can make an informed decision. I have taken countless vintage dresses and other items to them some of which had severe stains and they have all turned out beautifully. The on-site tailor has also done a great job at some fixes of my clothing, although i have yet to try her for a major remodel of a garment. One time, I needed a zipper repaired for a dress I needed that evening and she had it done for me within an hour!!! read more
