Great food and very casual atmosphere. It is located in the neighborhood. We had a very nice waiter.

I'm giving it 3 stars only because I know they had a hard time when the city shutdown. While the waiters are nice (the woman hustle more than the men) they seem as if they are out t o lunch...slow. The food is not all that great. I literally found a half of a whole eggshell in my omelette - it was disgusting! The soups are good and obviously made fresh there, but most are so salty. They haven't updated there menu in years and it's so unimaginative for this day and age. So not a solid 3, maybe a 2.5, but I'm giving the owner a break. read more

Best brunch in the neighborhood. I recommend the eggs benedict with avocado. Less pretentious than many of the local Gold Coast brunch spots. One of my favorite neighborhood hangouts for happy hour/a lite dinner. Reasonably priced with great drink specials. Low-key; a great place to catch up with girlfriends or for a quiet date night. The dinner menu is not quite as broad but the specials always brighten up the menu. Try the cheese plate. -1 star because they always seem to be a little bit understaffed. read more

Delicious food. Very good sandwiches. I love that they have a drink special for everyday: I'm here on a Tuesday and I got a jumbo margarita for $5!!! It is delicious. read more

Fabulous little hole in the wall. Amazing Greek omelette and the sourdough bread is so good!

Cozy cafe style coffee and eatery with a nice relaxed atmosphere. Very nice servers! On Saturdays they serve $5 Bloody Marys, Mimosas and Pimosas. My sister's chai latte was too sweet (although she didn't specify less sugar when she ordered) but the barista graciously added more milk for her. We didn't eat but found it a nice rest stop on our walk to old town from river north read more

I've recently ordered takeout from 3rd Coast Cafe, and was blown away by the food! I ordered the Diablo's Beef Sandwich and let me say, delicious is an understatement. From the first bite of the sandwich to the last, it had me smiling. I was nothing short of satisfied. Add great customer service, as the staff are very kind and friendly, and you got yourself a go to restaurant in the Gold Coast. Thank you Janet, thanks 3rd Coast staff! read more

We had an event down the street and the owner and staff went above and beyond to give us the best service! Even bringing us plates and silverware. They were a joy to communicate with and so accommodating! Highly recommend!! read more

I like this place. Nice people, very friendly. Good for breakfast, lunch and or dinner. I love grabbing a quick coffee here. They make an amazing espresso, iced vanilla latte or I also get the almond milk latte. Starbucks down the street is fine but I rather buy local. And the espresso is truly much better at 3rd Coast Cafe! Tell your friends. Support local businesses, especially now more than ever. They have inside seating back. Enjoy! read more

Decent spot for a bite to eat in the gold coast area. Always consistent on quality. They have a decent selection of wine. I have never been here during dinner time only lunch. I always get the california salad or one of their daily soup that catches my interest. Service has gotten better. read more

Very happy the 3rd Coast Cafe has survived the Pandemic. It's been a weekend breakfast staple got us for years. We'll be regulars again for sure. Very good dinner tonight either a daughter and two granddaughters! read more

Back to our first love! The place we had our first date! Still as good if not better than the first time, 23 years ago. Started with the hummus and it was good. I ate it so fast I didn't get a pic! Phil had the 3rd Coast Burger with asparagus and I had the soup. Wonderful. Big servings so we're taking some home. And finally, what sealed the deal 23 years ago.....Carrot Cake! Enjoy! read more

We came for breakfast while meeting up with family for a reunion. We had been at 2 expensive and highly touted restaurants the previous day and they left a lot to be desired! 3rd Coast was basically the opposite experience! It was wonderful!!!!!! in every way. From the food to the service, all were top notch. We had a large group and they sat us in a wonderful corner booth. The greek omelet was the best I've ever had, the pancakes delicious, eggs exactly as ordered, etc. No one had any complaints about their selections. The food also came quickly, all at the same time and nice and hot. The server was polite, efficient and all the staff were friendly! What a great spot, hope to go back next time I am in Chi town. read more

So nice to find a small cafe off of crowded Rush Street. Food is WONDERFUL. The party I was with had the wild cod, beef tenderloin w/asparagus, diced peppers & tomatoes, garlic ravioli, and, yes, a great grilled cheese & tomato sandwich. They forgot to add the bacon I ordered, but it was so good, I wolfed it down. Great date and small group spot. Wonderful, VERY accommodating staff! read more

To say that me and my teammates eat here a lot is an understatement. We love the food and the owner and her staff have always taken care of us, even when we come in 12 deep... steak and eggs, Diablo sandwich, or the pork hash... but that pizza is so damn good... I cannot say enough about how much I and my guys love eating here... Thank you so much!! read more

A great place to dine and escape the busy city. You can even get pb&j with bananas on sourdough for breakfast. Delicious! Elvis would be proud. The restaurant is warm and welcoming. Although not too busy on a Monday morning, there were still several groups of locals enjoying their breakfast along with their morning conversations. read more

Always a great place to relax and have some great food. It isn't expensive and has a really extensive range of types of food. If you're looking for a place to take friends, this is a great place. If you're also a wine lover, they have a really impressive selection of wines, none are bad and good prices. I had the salmon tonight. It was simple, delicious, fresh and a good price. I come here all the time. I think you'll love it. Try: Diablo tacos Salmon Bloody Mary Any of the soups Wines Amazing crumpets Come for brunch read more

Such a quaint, charming restaurant in the Gold Coast. The menu was pretty typical American brunch. If you like some heat order the Mexican omelet, if you have a sweet tooth don't kid yourself and just order the stuffed French toast, it will delight you in so many ways (hidden brie cheese!). I do not recommend the Chai tea as it comes out like an overly sweet milkshake, now I know. I'll be back soon to try dinner. read more

This is a neighborhood gem that could easily be overlooked. We recently moved close-by and are pleased to have a cozy, casual place to head to for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The lentil soup was fantastic--ordered an extra to-go bowl in fact! Their sandwiches are great (had the tuna melt and could finish half of it). Their portions are large and hearty. Service is fast and very pleasant. I also love the local art on the walls. If you're after a non-touristy place where local Chicagoans eat, this is it! read more

BY FAR MY FAVE BREAKFAST IN ALL OF CHI TOWN. The farmers omelet is stellar. The coconut oatmeal is awesome. They have mini scones to go if you want. The mimosa specials on weekend are great. I just can't say enough good things about this place. I have been here totally sober and sweaty from a workout and I have also been here after marathon St. Pat's drinking at 10pm at night still drunk. I just absolutely love the consistency of this place and I'm so sad I no longer live around the block. The hashbrowns are perfect please NEVER change them! read more

Excellent, even on a busy day I had no problems getting my food quickly. Highly recommend!

Food and service are awesome. I want to move close enough for this to become my regular spot. Missing a star as I feel portions could be slightly bigger but ill be coming to this place regularly. read more

We were staying at the Viceroy Hotel and stopped by after looking in on several places downtown that seemed appealing for dinner but were definitely too crowded. They are only a short walk of a few blocks north into the Gold Coast. We very much enjoyed the shrimp fried in oil and garlic. The key lime pie was as good as home made. The owner, Janet, stopped by for a nice chat -- we are sorry not to be new "locals" (btw Mike still owns the Zebra L and nothing much appears to have changed except the piano player). We stopped again the next morning to take some of their excellent scones to our daughter in Indiana. We hope to revisit soon. read more

Great start to our Chicago long weekend. 3 Coast lived up to the reviews. Fresh food friendly staff great selection. I had chocolate chip short stack 2 huge pancakes with chocolate morsels within them and a side order of linked sausage. Turned out too much food for me. The wife had the farmers omelet and she was so impressed that the mushrooms were fresh and not out of a can. Large bowl of fruit and toast She gave the place a 5 star review and she is picky. Good choice for breakfast for sure. Good music also read more

Came here this past weekend for brunch. My boyfriend's grandmother lives down the street and swears that this is one of the best brunches in the city. The cafe is situated in the Gold Coast with not much signage, you may miss it. Upon entering the building you step down into the space - most likely filled to the brim with couples, families, and friends. It was busy but we were seated within 10-15 minutes of our arrival (we arrived around 12:15). Now to the food...excellent! We ordered an assortment of omelets and eggs Benedict. I had the farmers omelet, loved every bite. Great assortment of veggies in every bite. For sides you get fruit/hash browns and toast. I didn't have the hash browns but heard they were good. I'd like to try the lunch or dinner menu. Definitely will be back! read more

I had a long history of coming here from early on, it's a great cafe and is often frequented by students in need of a late night place to study in. My favorite part was always the back where my friends and I often hung out and where I'd write til the wee hours of the night, do homework, meet with clients, or go on dates. Non pretentious, not a place to be seen but a place to be doing...something. Whether writing the American novel, having a drink, playing chess, etc. read more

Arrived for a long weekend in Chicago last week, and this place was right across the street from our hotel. We stopped in mid-afternoon for a snack; we were immediately greeted by the most pleasant and energetic hostess - what a great start. Were immediately seated and had a great little meal. Went back for breakfast the next morning and had an even better experience. Ordered the pulled pork hash, which was fantastic. The coffee was fresh and excellent. One of the best breakfasts I've had in awhile. Hope 3rd Coast is still there the next time I come to Chicago! read more

This place is bomb. Pretty standard diner fare, but executed amazingly. I got the Greek omelet, which was chock full of cheese and veggies, absolutely delicious. Do yourself a favor and ask for your hashbrowns extra-crispy. I generally prefer home fries to shredded hashbrowns as the latter tend to be mushy inside, but not these! Deeeeelish. Fast service, nice Bloody Mary, great food. I went yesterday and I'm tempted to go again today, while I'm in the neighborhood. Do yourself a favor and come here. You won't regret it. read more

Being the avid brunch-er that I am, I appreciate places like The 3rd Coast that keep brunch chill and eggs-focused rather than have 3 hour waits and overly fancy breakfast fare. I went here last week for a late brunch and really enjoyed it. Service was great and the Bloody Marys were even better. I had a veggie omelet and loved how chock full of veggies it was- not always the case at other places! I hear The 3rd Coast is a pretty happening wine bar as well in the later hours so I will have to check this place out then and see if it measures up the high bar of brunch! Love how low key and neighbourhoody this place is and I will certainly be back. read more
