I didn't even order the bubble tea but I curse a lot and decided not to waste the tea and had flashbacks of when my mother said she would wash my mouth out with soap. The spring rolls were great the day I went. Great. I didn't have a damn complaint. They erased the soap taste from my mouth. If you're coming back from the city and want a snack, look no further! Just around the corner of the 7, 39 Kings is a Chinese casual cafe, previously named Sunway and has existed for more than a decade. It's reliability is what I love about this place. The menu has been consistent and the service is excellent. Never a long wait ever and definitely no frills here. I only suggest not doing take-out with some of the dim sum dishes like the siu mai- I have gotten some pieces frozen, unfortunately. I'm not saying the food is top notch quality either, however, it's decent, what you pay for, and definitely better than going to some fast food joint in the area. There is also a lot of seating. Great when you also bring friends. Love the Malaysian roll and the rice rolls. The XO noodles are good too. If you're feeling like ordering basic bubble teas, like almond or honey dew milk teas, 39 Kings has those memorable tastes of the 90s bubble tea scene (and none of that brown sugar craze). I haven't been here in YEARS (it used to be called "Sunway Cafe" when I was younger) and I'm happy to see the place is still here and their quality of food is still delicious. It's one of the only places that still has Kumquat Lime (and still delicious!) and the service is still the same people (quick and good service). The Beef Chow Fun (the "wet" one with egg sauce) is delicious as ever and their beef with pepper was also delicious! We over ordered and had lots of little dimsum dishes too and their leaf wrapped sticky rice is also really good. Would definitely come back here when I'm in the area. CASH ONLY This used to be the old Sunway location until they rebranded to 39 Kings Cafe. When you need some bubble tea at night, take out or dim sum after dark this is the place that I think of. They are open until 4am every day and it would surprise anyone that so many people are ordering food or dining in after 12am. It can be super loud inside depending on who is dining in. The establishment is located in downtown Flushing at the corner of Prince (conveniently near a municipal parking lot that is free after 10p or 11p. But that area in Flushing is quite busy with traffic (Main Street closure to cars) and a lot of pedestrian activity during the day and during prime dinner hours. When I usually dine in it is pretty late so traffic and parking are not an issue. The inside dining area has a good amount of seating and you will always see a constant flow of customers in and out (diners as well as people picking up take out orders). I can only speak for myself and to my own personal experience for each place I review. Each time I have dined in I have had a good experience. I know Flushing is full of amazing restaurants and that restaurants differ in service and food quality. When it cones to 39Kings, it would not be considered the best Chinese food but for the convenience and awesome selection of hot food and drinks (non alcoholic) this place ranks one of the top in my book. On the nights where you are craving for some take out or certain Chinese dishes (well after the time that most other places have closed for the evening) this is the place that I and apparently many many other people think of (good or bad they think of 39kings and keep returning). The menu consists of appetizers and starters like gyoza and fried chicken and french fries. The regular daily menu consist of items you can find at any take out place or restaurant (chicken and broccoli, lo mein, kung pao chicken as well as things like congee, instant noodle dishes, HK style pork chop and one of my go to dishes, beef chow fun with bean sprouts. And mind you, this is at 2am on some nights. I named only a few but the menu offers at least 80 items to suit anyone's late night palate. Another one of my favorites they offer is a very simple dish that consists of spam, fried egg and chinese broccoli with white rice because sometimes simple is comforting and hits the spot. ANDDDD they have a dim sum menu that is available all day and each one is made to order. Their crystal shrimp dumplings (har gow) are a must as well as the sesame balls, rice rolls, scallion pancake and beef balls. The egg yolk buns are a very nice treat. For the drinks, you have an assortment of bubble tea flavors and slush drinks. The taro, green tea and coffee are some of my favorites. The mango slush also super refreshing. Just please keep in mind that this is not a bubble tea chain but the drinks are quite convenient and definitely go well with the food. *The only thing I would probably stay away from is the soup dumplings The staff is multilingual being able to speak in Mandarin and Cantonese (the demographic dialects of that area) as well as English (for order taking purposes which is very good for those customers who do not know how to speak any Chinese at all. The staff is usually very prompt and courteous. I have to give a shoutout to Stella who always takes time to welcome me and chats for a bit even though is busy. I have ordered from 39 Kings 30 times in 1 year. I think that is all the information you need. Maybe next year I will try to hit 39 orders! They have delicious drinks if you go in person. Definitely one of the best and cheapest dim sum places in all of New York. My favorites are the bamboo sheet rolls (they are tofu skin/bean curd rolls), gyoza, beef rice rolls, scallion pancakes, and malaysian cakes. The scallion pancakes are the best you'll have in Flushing. Also one of the only evening dim sum options and one of the only late night eats. After some digging, we discovered that it changed the name. Came here after a Mets game at 11am. The menu was seriously still the same as I remembered. Hong Kong style cafe. I love their Korean Short ribs. We also got a veggie dish and singapore fried noodles. The selection isn't huge but we got our fix here. It's so simple to order. They have a sheet and you just check off what you want. They speak English here as most dim sum places don't. Perhaps the greatest irony of Sunway Cafe becoming 39 Kings Cafe is that nothing has really changed. Literally. Minus the front door sign, there has been no major renovations as the staff, menu, and even the Chinese name (利苑食坊) is still the same. For people who have frequented Sunway over the years, know that all the other elements are still in place. The parking is awful, despite people parking for pickup on Prince almost at all hours. The smoke and smell from across the street Fat Ni BBQ (https://www.yelp.com/biz/fat-ni-bbq-cart-flushing) still permeates the front door. And they're still open super late at night (yay!). Service has always been subpar, but it's adequate for what the place is. The one thing that keeps this late night cafe from stardom is the food. It's all just decent, but not much stands out. Traditionally, this is not all that different from a HK Style Cafe, which is essentially the American diner equivalent of Chinese eateries. In addition to the lackluster food choices, it's not exactly cheap to eat here. Dim Sum is overpriced and a good number of their items are in the $12+ range. For less gourmet pricing, aim for most noodles or over rice dishes. And lastly, forget the credit card, it's cash only here. I would also consider avoiding the bubble tea, as most of it is too powdery for my liking. They are the only spot in Flushing to serve Dim Sum at night but very little of it is fresh (if at all).
